Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

[col]It was cold here, but Kyo didn't mind. He was accompanied by his massive Direwolf, Dakota. Kyo stood at a campsite within a clearing in the wooded areas, atop of one of the many mountains surrounding Kumogakure. The man was seated upon one of the rocks, observing and stoking a fire. He had his vertically challenged butler write and create fliers for him to distribute among the village for a survivalist class. He would dress this survivalist class up to being an ANBU class as a means of selection. While surviving in the outdoors wasn't a necessary requirement for people to join ANBU, Kyo felt it was imperative for EVERYONE to have some kind of survival knowledge; especially living out here in the isolation of the mountains. The location that Kyo and Dakota took camp was on one of the many paths from the village, so he wouldn't be difficult to find. This, being his first class, would be a challenge for him. His training to properly interact with people would be put to the test. His urge to eat them for the fun of it would also be tried; even if he hates the taste of human flesh.

Kyo poked at the fire with a stick as he stoked the flames, causing one of the logs to fall into the fire after a portion was weakened by the burning. Embers danced up into the sky before ultimately disappearing from sight. He pondered exactly what to teach them. Nothing too intense and nothing too simple. He remembered doing some boring hide-and-seek class which bored him and he didn't want to do something as crazy as interrogations -- yet. Then again, his interrogation class might land him in the brig due to how he likes to do interrogations. He might have to refine his method before considering doing that later on. It was then that Kyo decided on what to teach them for survival. He thought about it to himself for a moment before nodding his head with a big toothy grin. He turned to look towards the massive Direwolf and chuckle a little bit. "Don't eat these kids alright? I need to bring some of these smelly humans back to nature, after all and I can't do it if you kill them all. So behave," Kyo said, pre-emptively reprimanding the massive wolf. Her ears flopped down and she looked at him with whimpering eyes. In disappointment, the wolf laid down, placing it's chin upon it's paws.

Now he waits.

2: We will be doing 5 rounds maximum. So be sure you post in all 5 rounds.
3: Remember, you need to post a minimum of 1500 words total. Don't slouch and write, even if your words far exceed the 1500 words.
4: Everyone will have 5 days after my post to post. Once 5 days are up and you didn't post, you will be skipped. Getting skipped will result in not getting credit for the class (as you need 1500 words AND 5 posts min)
5: Be sure to participate with one another, it's more fun that way right? Best place to make friends or rivals is when you RP with them.
6: This class will be considered credit for those going for ANBU. However, this class would count as a basic class for those not wishing to go ANBU as well but won't count as a 'branch specific' class.

Another camping trip!

Folding the assignment paper, she had quickly thrown together the things she had wished she had had the last two times she was in the forest without her bed, blanket, and all those other comfortable things, then headed downstairs to grab some snacks. From the letter it was unclear for how long they would be staying there, but she assumed that it wouldn’t be any longer than a day or two. They would probably go over the basics, make a fire, trace something to eat, and set up a camp, or the way around. It would definitely be fun. Well, as long as it wouldn’t start raining. Just in case, though, she took one of the raining coats with her as well. No fun sleeping while you were wet.

On her way to the location given she wondered if anyone she knew would be around. Some people like Yosuke would have been put there because they were in the same class, but then there were others like Shiori who could still be assigned to mixed missions and the bettering of relations between the future shinobi originating from different classes. It seemed like she would have to wait and see to know.

The evening breeze bit into her cheeks. She pulled the scarf a bit tighter around her neck, closing her jacket all the way up. It was better like this, nothing came through her soft, protective armor now. The small Senju grinned pleased with herself. The more she went out to camp, the better she got at this whole preparation thing. Perhaps catching a part of their dinner while getting there would be a good thing to do. Should Tenko turn out to be there, she might even appreciate it. Not that Shizuka wanted to please her, she just wanted to show others that she too could take care of herself.

That’s why the next rabbit she noticed went down. A swift throw of the kunai had its neck pierced. No pain, she thought while picking up the greyish creature from the ground before continuing her walk towards the gathering spot.

She smelled the fire before she saw it, but when she did her lips curled into a wide smile. “Dakota!” The little ninja to be yelped, sprinting toward the large beast of a wolf. “Snack!” Enthusiastically waving with the rabbit, she forgot all about Kyo, dropping next to the fluffy animal and handing it their future dinner because.. she wasn’t that hungry and Dakota was cute.

“Kyo-san! Hey! You’re the one leading this trip?” Detaching the straps from her backpack, she dropped the thing next to the fire, but far enough for it not to catch fire by accident. “I didn’t know, this is cool. Are we going to camp here?”

Mostly excited because of the wolf, she carefully scratched it behind the ear while standing on her toes. Dakota seemed to have grown, but it might also be Shizuka’s imagination. One could easily forget that a wolf could be this big. Its head towered over the Senju, dwarfing the girl in the process.

The woods in Kumogakure's mountains were an interesting place to hold a survivalist class. Doi traversed down one of the many paths that led from the village, holding a flyer he'd received from a man back in the village. The flyer invited the reader to attend a survival class that would take place in the woods and had detailed instructions on how to get there. Luckily enough, Doi had completed all of his important duties for the week early and now had plenty of free time to spare. The boy had gone home and speedily prepared all of his shinobi gear after he decided he would indeed participate. The young boy then used the village rooftops to quickly arrive at the beginning of the path that lead to the base of the mountain. All there was to do now was hike from the base of the mountain, to the spot where the class would be held.

The dirt path that led up the lush, tree-covered mountain was filled with fallen leaves, and twigs that made a distinct crunching sound whenever Doi accidentally stepped on one. The area's abundance of trees and bushes prevented anyone with less than superb eyesight from clearly seeing deeper into the woods from the dirt path. There could've been a pack of wolves eyeing him from behind the shrubbery and he wouldn't have been likely to notice. After hiking for what seemed like an eternity, Doi could finally start to see what appeared to be a camp fire up ahead. He briefly glanced down at his flyer to confirm he was heading towards the right destination. Once he was convinced, Doi channeled chakra to his feet and used a swift burst of speed to close the distance.

At the campsite, Doi saw a man and a massive Direwolf. The boy was sure he'd met both the man and the wolf before. If he'd remembered correctly, this man and his wolf companion were his partners during a class with the pale-eyed ANBU Hoshi. The man's name was Kyo and the massive wolf's Dakota.

"Hello, I'm here to participate in the survival class. I was given this flyer back in the village."

When Yosuke found one of the survivalist class fliers, it was drifting in the air on his way back home from training. It was dancing with the wind, and he didn’t even acknowledge its existence until it fell by his feet with a light thud. He bent over to pick it up off the ground and throw it away. But in his hands, the light of the moon shined down from above and onto the paper, making two words quite clear to him. Survivalist Class. He grew overwhelmed with curiosity, and crumpled the paper up, shoving it into his hoodie’s pocket and keeping on his way home.

He forgot about it that night when he left his hoodie on the bed and went to take a shower. But before bed he remembered and pulled the balled up paper out, unwrinkling and analysing it under the light of his lamp. He read it closely and suddenly grew excited, which eventually turned into anxiety. The event was tomorrow and he just found the paper! There was no time to tell Shizuka and Ouishi about this! But...he wouldn’t mind going by himself? Yeah, doing it with strangers is just as good as working with friends sometimes.
So that night he packed everything he would take, the warmest blanket in his closet, some backup clothes, and a small blade he kept in his room for cutting things when needed. Trying to fall asleep that night was the hardest task, he couldn’t stop himself from imagining all of the cool things they would be doing. Climbing, building fires, capturing food, learning how to survive during tough situations that mean nothing but life or death. The excitement bubbled within him so much that he didn’t fall asleep until many hours later without realizing it.

The next morning he woke up later than usual, and in a daze. Believing he dreamed everything up until he saw the paper again, and his tired red eyes snapped open. He quickly changed, grabbed his gear, said bye to his uncle and rushed out of the door and towards the meet up area. He came running up the trail to the mountain and stopped in his tracks slipping slightly due to the gravel. He composed himself, noticing a boy with snow white hair, a scary looking man with a scar over his left eye, Shizuka, and a-? A wolf?!

His heart sank and he cautiously approached them, the happiness he felt when he saw his friend didn’t last long, even if she sat besides the white-furred beast. He waved her way, very shyly, and asked, “Is ugh...this the place for the survivalist class?”

It was Kumo that had found the flier. Somehow the pup had managed to figure out that it was meant to advertise a survival class and had gotten excited enough to bring it back to his partner, jaws clutched protectively around the paper as it bounded off. Takeshi had attended only the barest minimum of classes, preferring instead to learn by doing. It was more effective for him to read a book and come to his own conclusion about what the contents meant than to listen to some old man drone on about what *he* thought it should mean and how *he* thought it should be done. The world was far too grand and complex for there to be only one solution to everything.

Despite this philosophy on learning however, Takeshi took an interest in the flier; gingerly holding the now-wet-with-dog-slobber article between two fingers. Survival was something he could do. Even as a child his parents had prepared him for the academy by teaching him the fundamental rules of living in isolation, though he'd never had to actually use those skills in a real-world scenario. He doubted the instructor would just dump them in the middle of the woods to fend for themselves though. Still, it was an opportunity to learn something new about a field he liked to dabble in, and from an actual ninja no less.

Peering over the top of the dripping sheet he looked at the lolling tongue and cocked head of his friend, wondering how Kumo would fare in the wild. He'd never hunted before, never slept outside, never been on his own, for all intents and purposes Kumo was a spoiled brat. Perhaps this was also a chance to teach Kumo a thing or two about survival. With that Takeshi nodded his consent and the ever faithful black and white akita yapped happily, suspecting nothing.

It didn't take long for Takeshi to pack. Since the point of the class was survival he expected that the instructor would be more of a practical man than a lecturer, so it wouldn't do to have a snack on hand if he told them to hunt for their own food, or to have a bedroll if he told them to build their own shelter. After consuming a light meal and a bottle of water Takeshi was ready: no pack, no provisions: nothing. Only the weapon at his side, his mind, and the clothes on his back.

Following the directions on the parchment was simple enough: find this landmark, go this many miles, turn here, etc. Perhaps that was the first part of the class, to find your way to the class. He grinned at that, a clever way to weed out those who would be unsuited for the task.

* * *

The second they broke the treeline of the clearing Takeshi was met with the sight of a rag-tag group of ninjas-to-be overlooked by a scarred young man with a wolf three times the size of Kumo. The half-grown pup at his side eyed the larger canine with nervous excitement, kneading the ground with his front paws. He'd never encountered another nin-ken before and wasn't sure if he should go into "play" mode or respectfully keep his distance. Takeshi put a hand on his companions head to soothe him and they both approached in step.

As to be expected all the other students were younger than he was, one of them--the little girl, couldn't have been older than eleven. Quietly he studied them all, sizing up what could be either his competition or his team. The little girl was a brave child, that much was plain, fussing over the large dire wolf with a recently deceased rabbit. Takeshi could still the smell the coppery scent of it's blood mixing with the harsh smoke. The second eldest of the three was freakishly tall for his age, Takeshi had almost thought him to be of an age with himself before the roundness of his face suggested otherwise. The thing that drew Takeshi's focus was the armband though. The kid had already graduated. What was he doing here then? Surely none of this was new to him. The final, and oldest child, was an odd one. With pastel pink hair it was difficult to imagine him ever sneaking around staying hidden from the enemy.

Whether or not they would be a help or a hindrance remained to be seen.

Then his eyes fell upon the instructor and for the first time he absorbed who would be teaching them. Only a few years older than Takeshi himself, yet still shockingly young, with cold dead eyes that refused to betray the intent within. All at once Takeshi saw him as a man to emulate and revile and wasn't sure which side of the coin he preferred. Instinctively the boy reached out and clutched the soft fur at the back of Kumo's neck for comfort. He didn't say anything, but from his vantage point up high the instructor had no doubt seen him. That was enough. So he simply stood straight and waited, the thick fur cloak falling around him to create a wall that boxed him in from the rest of the cold world.

Practice, as they said, made perfect.

And she couldn't wait to hit perfection. Chakra control was key to everything about a shinobi's life; from their techniques to their physical condition to... to... everything! If she wasn't studying something absolutely fascinating (did you know the average human being was born with two hundred and seventy bones in their body and lose sixty four by the time they reach adulthood?), she was trying to practice said control and walk up her walls. Stand on the ceiling. Walk sideways or upside down on the ceiling to go downstairs. She even tried standing in the bathtub to practice the whole 'walking on water' bit!

Natsumi had been absolutely forbidden from walking on water in the bathtub for at least two months; she figured that was about the right amount of time for her parents to completely forget about the mess she'd made and thus be able to try it again with even greater success than that, um, unfortunate practice run.

Now, cheerfully on her way to a class, a real shinobi class outside of a classroom and everything!, Natsumi dallied a bit here and there, running up a tree and trying to defy gravity and having a varying degree of success. She'd get it eventually, she just knew she would, and skidded to a stop just on the outskirts of the other students gathered. Stared at the collective group. Scowled. And slunk forward with her hands shoved into her pockets, ears flattened back against her skull as she shot a baleful glare to the back of that stupid Senju girl's head.

Short, stupid, and smartass. Probably a suck up too.

This would be a first for him. Oushi had been walking been walking back from his studies back to the dormitory, when something had caught his eye. There was a poster stuck to a post, threatening to torn away and fly into the cloudy sky. Luckily, the boy had grabbed it before it could have its way, looking it up and down to see what the poster was all about. It was an advertisement for a survival class. A first, indeed. Curious, the purple haired youth took the paper with him into his room, giving it much thought. The class would be for tomorrow, so he still had time to decide, but was this really for him? He laid down on his bed with his hands cradling the back of his head, as he stared up at his bland ceiling.

‘This could be a good experience...or miserable.’ His brow furrowed slightly, thinking as it what survival training would all entail. They would be out in the woods, there would be no comforts, and in honesty, they would probably have to keep up with their normal training. Who knew what was all out there too? ‘It could be exciting. Better than sitting around here and studying textbooks.’ He didn’t mind studying, but the boy prefered to keep himself physically busy. It was calming in its own right. There was just something about it, or perhaps it was because he was used to being active all the time, between working on the farm or doing work around the house. Then there was the situation of now. No longer living at home, but at the academy dormitories and training his body to be a weapon of sorts, for the Cloud.

Oushi sighed and lifted himself off his bed, walking over to the poster laying on his small desk. With his palms resting on the flat surface, he stared intently at the class advertisement. Thinking about it, this was something that Shizuka or Yosuke might partake in, maybe even drag him along into. ‘Maybe I’ll just beat them to the punch this time.’ Clapping his hands together in determination, the purple haired boy turned on his heel and set about getting together what belongings he had that would help prepare him for the survival class. He would honestly be surprised if neither of his friends showed up, but he would just have to wait and see. Perhaps he’d get acquainted with other students while he was at it. Once everything was packed, he sent himself to bed in order to get a good night’s rest.

The next morning, Oushi was quick to grab his bag and head out of the dormitory, stuffing the poster in the pocket of his vest jacket. The boy and his untamable cowlick were out the door, running for the mountains with a knot of excitement built up in his stomach. It took him a bit, but with enough patience and a keen eye, he found the clearing where others had gathered. Right off the bat, he could pick out the pink hair of Yosuke, so that was a relief in itself. His attention was then drawn to Shizuka, though that didn’t last long as it was immediately stolen by the big direwolf. The boy’s caramel brown eyes widened a little, and he found himself holding his breath for a moment after a sharp intake. She seemed familiar with the creature though, so perhaps it was alright. Oushi gave the two an apprehensive wave, a little nervous to get started with the class. “Ah, I figured you guys would show up for this.”

He anxiously tried to pat down his cowlick, looking over the other notable faces. There were three others aside from the figure who he assumed would be leading the class. One even had a pup of his own! His eyes were drawn to the girl with cat ears, though she didn’t look all that happy. Either way, Oushi made a mental note of where she was and moved to try and stand naturally near Yosuke. Maybe this survival training would help him get over his problem, if even just a little bit. He doubted it though.

This was a bad idea.
Every shinobi subject felt like a bad idea. Being a shinobi felt like a bad idea, but it was one she had little say in. More to the point, if she followed her gut instinct on that, it would lead her to become another statistic. Specifically, one of Kumogakure’s ninety-percent failure students. Failure meant death. She found it impossible to shake off that little factoid. At the very least, she reminded herself that a survival class would still be more bearable than any class that involved actual fighting. Then again, normal people didn’t have to weigh wild bears against child soldiers – and decide that they had better odds against the bear. After several sleepless hours, she convinced herself that a survival class could be useful, with significantly less chance of injury-

Who was she kidding? It was going to suck, but at least nobody would threaten her life. They said what didn’t kill you made you stronger, so she would go for whatever gave her the best odds until she could handle herself properly. Or drop out. One of the two.

She’d packed light, though it was an act born of ignorance rather than practicality. A spare change of clothes, an empty water bottle, and a small assortment of weapons from her father. Nothing excessive, but it was a class; their teacher would provide them with anything else they needed, surely. She left a note for her absent parents, telling them not to expect her for dinner, and maybe even during that night. Finally, she grabbed the leaflet and left her haven.
----
This was a very bad idea.
The forest was chilly, even by Kumo standards. Her comforts were slipping away by the second. Nature cared little for cleanliness, and the more she realised how long it would feel until she had a warm shower again. She’d had the sense to put her hair into a long braid before setting off, but it somehow still managed to get caught on the occasional branch as she weaved through the trees. It didn’t help that her navigation skills were far from perfect, which cemented her as one of the last to arrive at the clearing. By the time she found the place, she already looked set to leave.

There was a lot to take in. She recognised a few faces. There was Shizuka, playing with oh my goodness why was there a giant magic wolf monster? And had it come with a child? Asami forgot to hide her stare, showing an immediate sense of concern to her peers. A second too late, she looked elsewhere. She couldn’t say she knew any of the others by name, though she was sure she’d heard one of them at some point. Then there was the elder - their teacher, presumably. Just like Kiri, there was something off about him. Sharpened nails, teeth too sharp for a human, marred with battle scars…
So far, she hadn’t seen a chuunin that both acted and appeared normal. That did not bode well for her future, but trying to retreat was likely to end far worse. She put on a brave face that was only half-successful. “I'm here on time, right? Good. I’m looking forward to this class.”

[col]Dakota stood up and welcomed the first student to arrive with licks to her face. After a couple licks, the massive direwolf moved it's head down towards the rabbit and tried with it's might to take it from Shizuka's grasp. The only thing on Dakota's mind now was the rabbit. The introductions were out of the way and Dakota's brain went straight to her stomach. Kyo turned his head after Dakota bolted off away from him to see the one named Shizuka. "Ah, the lost child. I guess you can say, over-seeing, would be a more reliable answer, sure," Kyo said with a nod before more students started to show up to include one of the children he'd seen before in Hoshi's class. Kyo's only reply to Doi would be, "Good, don't get comfortable," he stated as more of the students poured in.

After Doi entered, another more timid child entered the campsite. Dakota was too distracted with the rabbit that Shizuka had in her hands to really be bothered by the boy's presence. It wasn't until Dakota stopped for a moment with her nose wiggling forward and backwards did something catch her attention. She looked upwards and sniffed the air before turning her head towards the new duo to arrive; Takeshi and the multi-colored Akita. The hairs on Dakota's body started to stand-on-end as another creature started to roam in what Dakota declared as 'her temporary territory'. With a simple command to 'relax' by Kyo, Dakota calmed herself down for a moment and returned to trying to retrieve the rabbit while keeping an eye on the whelp duo.

Kyo's eyes scanned over Yosuke and then Takeshi for a moment, keeping an eye on the two. These two bring an interesting dynamic to the situation that Kyo had made for the group. All that was missing was the final piece. Like clockwork, the final player decided to arrive by the name of Natsumi. Kyo looked at Natsumi's glaring look and traced her eyes towards the back of Shizuka's head. Kyo did his very best to hold in a laugh, only cracking by letting (for a split second) a small smile to appear on his face. He cleared his throat to signal to everyone to gather up and to also regain his composure. He stood up and looked to the group of would-be shinobi (to also include an actual shinobi) and started to speak. He was interrupted at the presence of a new child, one that seemed to have hair issues. He shot the child, Oushi, an annoyed look before opening his mouth again to speak to see yet another student walk in. He directed her to go with everyone else before finally proceeding.

"Greetings," he said. His way of greeting people felt awkward, almost like this person didn't have very much practice in being nice to others. "My name is Ryong Kyo-Moon. If you are here, you saw the fliers sent out for this class. Here, you will learn how to survive in the wild with almost no support. And if you haven't learned it already, you will be taught teamwork. Well, I hope your parents won't miss you for a day or two," Kyo said as he turned his eyes seemingly passed the group and nods. After a moment, each of the children (even the young Akita pup) could feel someone come up behind them with a damp cloth up to their faces, smothering them. The fumes from the damp cloth would make the children sleepy, very very sleepy until they fall unconscious. "Nighty night!
See you at the camp site!
"

The children are awakened to the howling of the wind, blistering cold temperatures, a massive direwolf barking at them, and Kyo shouting expletives to towards each of the children to wake them up. Once all of them are awake, Kyo continued, shouting to make his voice heard through the wind. The skies were covered in clouds, not letting the sun poke out and the snow fell sideways due to the ripping wind. The wind, itself, was cold and bit into the student's skin. Kyo, however, doesn't seem bothered by the cold much having lived in this element for years upon years. "You're all awake, finally! As you can see, we're out in the middle of nowhere," Kyo stated before looking around. The party found themselves at the apex of a mountain, a sharp apex with just enough room to place the students; thankfully none of them rolled in their sleep or they would have taken quite the tumble.

"All of your extra food was taken from you as well as your spare clothes. In the event of survival situations, you wouldn't have any of this stuff. You have been left with whatever weapons and tools you have brought with you, however. I'm not very good at teaching by instruction so you will all eventually learn this stuff on your own. Your objective is to survive 24 hours in this shit," Kyo said as the wall of a massive snowstorm was approaching them, clearly visible to the naked eye. He pointed towards the storm wall and shouted, "You all better get to lower ground before that monster hits,"

Below the children, about a kilometer down was the tree-line. The trees there consisted of a mixture of deciduous trees and evergreen pine. Between here and there, however, the road was treacherous filled with jagged rocks for about a quarter of a kilometer before leveling out to a smooth decline towards the forested area. It was brutally apparent that the group needed shelter from that storm until it passed; that was paramount over anything else to include food, water, and fire. For those that noticed, they could tell that it was approaching the evening, around 4pm. "Let's get going! If you have to, use teamwork to make it over towards the tree-line and start building yourself a shelter. A little lean-to probably won't be good enough to deal with that storm," he stated.

There were no caves, at least none usable for the entire party, up ahead. There were a couple smaller caves just barely big enough to fit only one of the smallest members in the group and for them alone, however, those caves are generally inhabited by other animals. "Oh yeah! I won't be helping you guys unless you are all under a life-threatening situation, so let's get moving," he said before slowly moving himself down the jagged rock that the group was placed on. The cold started to get worse, getting goosebumps forming on himself. If Kyo started to feel a chill, then it would definitely be far-too-cold for the youngsters. The current temperature is approximately -23 degrees fahrenheit/-30.5 degrees celsius with winds approaching gusts of 65 knots. The wind started to whip Kyo and Dakota around as they slowly started their descent down the crag. His hand slipped a few times, but keeping 3 points of contact for the descent saved his butt each time.

When Kyo was at a safe distance to jump down, he did only to roll a bit before coming to a stop. After dropping from the crag, it was a smooth decline of 7 degrees down to the tree-line. Having been the first to get off of the crag, Kyo stopped and watched the younglings make their way down the crag. If any of them look to be having issues scaling down, he'd assist them, otherwise he didn't bother them and let them use whatever teamwork they deemed necessary to get through this obstacle. After everyone finished climbing down the rock, the storm's wall was clearly visible and gave the party less than an hour to prepare a shelter down at the timberline.

"Don't screw with the weather either!" he said, knowing that some ninja were capable of altering the weather, but that would defeat the purpose of this exercise. In normal circumstances, certainly that would be a good call. However, for the sake of this training, altering the weather would diminish the experience. "Alright. If you ever find yourself in a shitty spot like we were at, you're going to want to find yourself going downwards to the timberline. Down here, you will find a LOT more resources, food, and even means of creating a shelter. The kind of shelter you're going to make is called a dome-shelter. But for more people, a half-dome would work!" Kyo said, elevating his voice a bit more because of the devastatingly loud winds. Kyo started to collect branches and build himself and Dakota a half-dome shelter in roughly ten minutes.

"Now, you guys have about 50 minutes until the storm gets here. Make a shelter big enough for all 8 of you," he said to include the puppy that was with them. "If you don't make it, enjoy the smooth weather ahead," he said before him and Dakota crawled into the make-shift and alright-built shelter. While inside this shelter, the two of them watched the students build their own and wondered if they'd make it on time.|

- No post order so post when you can (But only once this round)
- There should be MORE than enough material to write on so I don't expect to see anything less than 500 words
- Make sure to RP your character and how they'd do things -- Don't just RP out the actions to accomplish the goals. Remember, you are playing a character so roleplay
- You've had all extra food and clothing stripped from you. You are left with your tools/weapons however.

Not wanting to play with fire for too long she handed the rabbit to the direwolf before it would decide to eat it together with her hand. Then all of her attention shifted to her arriving friends, and subsequently to the other people who had decided to join the class. Only one of them appeared to be fairly cold - the catgirl’s eyes spoke of many things but none of them were kind. In reply to the gaze Shizuka rolled her eyes acting as if the other girl was nothing but a small nuisance. So, instead of wasting her time on her, she waved to Yosuke, Oushi and Asami. Having never expected for all of them to show up, she felt quite happy and excited, but did miss Shiori. Should the tall, lean girl have been here it would have definitely completed the group.

Stuck in her thoughts she only got to hear about half of what Kyo was saying. Unsure if the smothering had been announced she instinctively trashed against the hands gripping her. Unfortunately all of her strength seeped away into the darkness, and her consciousness soon followed it as her body grew incredibly heavy.

The noise was too loud. Blinking slowly she tried to get up from the cold, hard ground, but needed a moment to come back to her senses. Slowly the fog started to clear, her mind grumbled and creaked as the processing of her surroundings began. The being drugged part came in a flashback and went the moment she realized that they were no longer at the campsite. There was no trace of the bonfire, no trees surrounding them, and even the sky had changed colors. Rubbing the sleep from her eyes she wondered why Dakota was being so noisy. That was until her eyes found the mess of a clouds in the distance. A storm was coming. A blizzard, according to Kyo.

“What?” She mumbled to herself, awkwardly getting up onto her feet while looking around for her belonging. It was then that the situation they found themselves in settled in, and she understood what this class would be like. Almost immediately a vague trace of regret found its way into her chest.

“Uhh.. what a bothersome training..” In all honesty she hadn’t expected it to be like that. This wasn’t the fun trip she had imagined it would be when she had walked down the road to the mentioned location.

Pulling the scarf tighter around her neck, she turned to see the ones around her. “You all alright?” They seemed to be, even if half looked as shocked as she was. Not that there was any time for it. If their leader was right then the storm would be brutal. As if this predicament they were in already wasn’t bad enough. She could barely feel the tips of her fingers already.

“Let’s go! Oushi! I’ll need your help.” Sliding downwards, she used her chakra training to get a decent grip on the slippery and rocky ground. Defending herself from the wind by hiding her mouth inside of her elbow, she hoped to get to the treeline as fast as she could. Should someone need her help she would stop. Perhaps with the exception of the cat.. someone else could save that one.

Past the treeline and with their instructions clear, Shizuka figured to give their shelter a strong backbone. Should the wind become even stronger, it would be good to have an iron-like structure. Except that she could not control anything that was iron, so wood would have to do.

“Mokuton!” Sending chakra into the ground, she concentrated to make sure that the logs shooting from the ground wouldn’t slam into a nearby tree.. or student. They just had to form a piramide of sorts. “Wooden tendrils!”

They grew from the opening earth, joining with their sharp tips at the top. Logs, thick and firmly rooted in the ground beneath. They should do. She hoped that they would.

A few more students arrived at the last minute; another freakishly tall 12 year old, this one a girl with black hair. Kumo kept his attention fixed on her far too long for him to be unconcerned, though the only answer Takeshi could get from the dog was "Feline." Perhaps the girl had a cat with her that he couldn't see. The second late arrival was a young soft looking boy who fidgeted nervously. Hopefully the teacher had a hands-on style of instruction or else that little squirt was bound to panic. Takeshi made a mental note to keep his eye on the kid. The third and final student to be late for the class looked like she'd already completed it: twigs poking out in every direction from her scalp and her clothes ruffled with leaves that had pinned themselves to the fabric. She didn't at all look happy to be there, but her voice was eager enough. The boy wondered which it was; ready to leave, or anxious to get started. Judging from the immaculately painted make-up this girl wasn't made for fighting and he had to wonder if that was born from her innate refusal to *be* a fighter or of the academy's failure to break her. Either way she seemed like another one that he had to watch.

Then the class began and Takeshi clicked his fingers in front of Kumo's snout, drawing his attention away from the black haired girl and towards the front of the group where the instructor was talking. It wasn't long before something began to feel wrong. The large akita pup at his side felt it too, shifting nervously on his front paws and flicking his ears this way and that. Neither of their heightened set of senses could help them against the stealth-techniques of the Anbu however, and both of them were caught unawares with only that disturbed sense of wrongness to inform them. The smell of the chloroform rag hit Takeshi before he saw it and he tried to whirl around on his heel. A hand reaching for the hilt of his sword. By the time his fingers grasped it though, the rag was pressed firmly against his mouth and a pair of hands restrained him. Having the rag cover his face blocked him from seeing it, but he could hear Kumo's yelping and thrashing and an anger rose up inside of him. Then it was gone, along with the world and the cold and the very idea of awareness itself; all of it vanishing into inky blackness.
* * *

When he awoke, groggy and shaking snow from his hair, they were on a peninsula high up enough for the cold to bite right through his layers of leather and fur. The roaring of the snow was damn near deafening. For a moment he had to regain himself and remember what happened. He'd woken up that day and finished his exercises, went to the library to study, then Kumo had brought him some kind of flier. The rest came spilling back easily and the young man lurched too suddenly to his feet and unsheathed his blade, nearly falling again. In a fit of panic he felt for Kumo, blinded by worry and anger. A small woof gave him comfort as Kumo inserted himself beneath that frantic hand. Then Takeshi managed to calm himself and take stock of his surroundings.

The rest of the students were rousing themselves along with him, only one of them was already on her feet; surprisingly it was the little girl that had fed a rabbit to the large direwolf. He didn't have time to admire her strength though, he was too busy worrying about what would happen next, who would come out of the shadows this time? Would it be another drug or a kunai in their hand?

Kyo, their instructor, was still around, though he was little more than a smudge in the snow and shouting about a storm approaching, 24 hours, survive.

"There was no need to-!!" Takeshi tried to shout out his fury but the wind poured into his mouth and choked out the last half of his sentence.

More shouting from their instructor, this time about building a shelter, all Takeshi could do was roll his eyes and mumble "No shit." to himself. Then the piece of information that scared him. A storm was coming. The current weather alone was enough to give them frostbite within the hour, in a snowstorm they wouldn't last a handful of minutes.

The little girl had thrown herself off the edge already, with no concern for those around her. Brave but stupid. Takeshi turned on the rest of the students packed onto the peninsula with him.

"Anybody with edged weapons or good chakra control go down first, cut handholds into the side of the ice for those who don't!" And with that he slid over the edge, following his own example and using his chakra to stick to the mountain as he climbed down, slicing away a chunk of rock or ice every few feet. Kumo had draped himself around the young boys shoulders, doing his best to scrabble little wounds into the surface of the mountain with his claws.

By the time he'd reached the bottom the girl that had gone down first had already created the structure for their shelter out of wood. "Good work Brave Girl." He told her as he passed her. He didn't know her name, so the moniker "Brave Girl" would have to do. Kumo jumped down from Takeshi's shoulders and went bounding off into the trees, Takeshi meanwhile was hacking kindling from the branches for a fire.

"Somebody insulate the half-dome!" He shouted. He couldn't know how prepared these kids were for something like this, so at the risk of sounding like a jerk he began barking orders. It was for their own safety. "Use mud or anything else that isn't flammable! Somebody find us water! Melt ice if you have to, but make sure the water itself isn't cold! We can do without food for twenty-four hours, don't bother hunting! Keep yourselves moving: if your heart isn't pumping you'll die faster!" He tossed the twigs and branches he'd hacked off into the half-dome and went off again in search of stones to make a fire pit.

More and more participants began to enter the clearing shortly after Doi had arrived. Their ages ranging from being slightly younger to being slightly older than he was. Yet, it seemed he was the only certified genin amongst them all. They were all just academy students. There was only one face amongst the group that he could recognize as well. Nevertheless, it was very likely that he'd seen the rest around the village at some point or another and just didn't remember.

Eventually, the flow of new arrivals decreased, and it began to look like no one else planned on joining them this session. Once he'd taken this into account, their instructor introduced himself and began to briefly address them all. It turns out this man was indeed the Kyo that had worked alongside him during the Hoshi training session.

Doi didn't have much time to properly reminisce that particular event in the Ancient Forest due to him suddenly being attacked by behind. The boy attempted to flair his lightning chakra and electrocute the culprit, but something was inhibiting his ability to control his chakra and thus rendered him unable to do so. Kyo definitely was up to something.

Sensing that he was about to lose consciousness, Doi began to thrash about as much as he could despite being restrained. After a few seconds of struggling to no avail, Doi had fallen unconscious.

oOo

It was cold. It was very, very cold. Doi's eyes opened to see that he was currently lying on snow-covered surface. There wasn't a doubt in his mind that this wasn't the clearing in the woods were they'd all just been. From his position on the snow-covered floor, Doi could see the rest of the children were in similar positions to his own; a few had yet to regain consciousness. The boy pushed himself up into an upright position to get a better look of his new surroundings. Judging by the freezing wind and the abundance of snow, they must've all been transported to one of the mountainous region's higher altitude points while unconscious. The flyer didn't mention something like this was going to happen at all. Why couldn't this have been a normal training session in the woods? Was that too much to ask for?

Through the use of chakra, Doi managed to make his way down the jagged snow-covered rock that they'd all been left on. Some of the other children had already regained consciousness by this point, so he wasn't necessarily the first one down. Though much his ire, their instructor was already down there waiting for them. His instructions were clear, find shelter before the incoming storm was upon them. They had about an hour before the storm was within range, so the children quickly began to work. An hour would be more than enough time if everyone did their part.

The wooden structure for the group's shelter was eventually made. Doi was able provided the necessary mud and leaves to keep it insulated with some assistance from another kid.

A chill fell over him when the man covered in scars looked him over. There was something strange about his green eyes, only comparable to the eyes of a hunter watching over its prey. The direwolf gnawing on the skull of a deceased rabbit didn’t help Yosuke feel much safer either. It felt like his very being was being drained by his cold and calculated eyes. This guy wasn’t normal.

He became unsettled, but didn’t let the fear show on the outside. Instead he looked back at the man with confident eyes that betrayed his true emotions. Yosuke will back down to no man, or er, whatever he is. He noticed a familiar girl walk in when he was taking a seat. After thinking for quite some time on who it was and following her eyes, he remembered quite vividly. It was the girl from the landing ship to the tea, the same girl Shizuka made that harsh comment towards. He never truly realized what occurred and why, in fact he had no problem with the pretty looking girl. He waved her way, to try and lighten the mood and patted the seat next to him.

All the while, he analyzed the group around him. Many people of different sizes and backgrounds. The white haired boy, that was a Genin, oh how Yosuke lusted for that band. Shizuka, one of his only friends for the last few months. The pretty girl, whose name he still didn’t know. And pupper boy, the kid with a small dog of his own that looked battle hardened in his own right. The man stood up, ready to speak, and in comes Oushi bringing a smile to Yosuke’s face. He felt bad for the boy, who angered the scary looking man that he would later come to know as Moon Sensei. Another girl interrupted the man before he started his introduction.

“Well, I hope your parents won’t miss you for a day or two,” Yosuke grew excited. This was going to be an overnight trip of some kind, just as he expected. But he would never of expected what came next. Before he knew it, a hand came over his mouth and nose with a damp rag. His eyes felt weak, and droopy. Then everything went dark and the last words he heard were, “Nighty night!”

He woke up to the chittering of his teeth and the shaking of his freezing body. The temperatures of the meeting place for the mission was cold, but it was nothing compared to where they were now. This was a completely different level. Moon Sensei seemed to have taken away all of their gear, except for the weapons they brought from home. Yosuke covered his mouth from the brutal winds, and his pink hair blew against his face as he sat up. He simply sat there for a few seconds, in a state of confusion as everyone rose around him, Pupper boy at the helm.

"Anybody with edged weapons or good chakra control go down first, cut handholds into the side of the ice for those who don't!"

He snapped out of his dreamlike state and stood up from the floor, as quickly as he could which wasn’t very fast in these harsh temperatures. He took the gloves from his hands, and unwrapped the tape. He used the pocket knife from home to rip away at the fabric and placed it over his mouth and nose, using the wrapping to keep it in place so the wind wouldn’t take it away. Removing the glove unveiled his scarred bare hand, which he was so pathetically ashamed of. He hated his effeminate features, but didn’t love the scars he obtained from working at the Port with his parents either. Not in the slightest. But this wasn’t the time to be self conscious, he had a job to do. The only way to survive was to work together.

“I’m on it pupper boy!” Yosuke shouted from beneath the do-it-yourself bandana, and sprinted off towards the edge. His hand was shaking due to how cold it was, but the adrenaline pumping through his body sustained him for now. He followed the older boy’s lead, using the chakra in the soles of his feet to stay on the side of the mountain, and the pocket knife to break away at the ice, for the other students to use.
He stopped on his path down to where Moon Sensei and the other stood to glance back, using the chakra on his finger tips to hold onto the mountain side and shout out, “Go one by one! Don’t fall!” and prayed that the unforgiving gusts of wind didn’t drown out his voice.

Finally making it over to where the others were he noticed Shizuka’s tendrils in the form of a pyramid. He smiled, proud of his friend that seemed to have gained proper control of the jutsu since he last witnessed it. “Nice,” He tried to sound happy, but couldn’t help but worry about how Oushi and the others would fare getting down. And as much as he’d like to believe it wasn’t true, he had a good feeling Moon Sensei wasn’t the type to save one of his students, especially during a survival lesson.

He couldn’t focus much though, his lips were cold, and he couldn't feel his body any longer. These temperatures were too much for him to handle. If this continued, he wouldn’t be able to last much, and he wouldn’t allow himself to die here. Not during a class, no matter how extreme. He knew exactly what he had to do, but wasn’t too sure how it would work. Every time he used this new Jutsu, it was out of control, his chakra would spike to dangerous levels risking his life. But it’s now or never.

He performed the hand Jutsus, “Fire style,” He mumbled, closing his eyes and focusing his chakra, like a stream of water he had to stop from overflowing. His icy eyes snapped open, concentrated yet-different. They didn’t look like Yosuke’s eyes but those of someone a little distant from sanity, “Immolation Armor!”
He felt the switch in his body like a match, and he grew inflamed internally. The cold dwindled in his body and in came a refreshing sense of heat, keeping him warm. He looked at his hands, the one disgustingly scarred one and the other gloved one. He smiled happily, that was the first time he was able to control his fire Jutsus without utilizing too much chakra.

He turned around, “I’ll get us some warm water,” He said, tossing his pocket knife on the floor and waited until the arrival of the others. “One of you, use the knife and make some makeshift bowls so I could put the water inside of and follow me!”

He turned his attention to the older boy, the one he only knew as Pupper boy for his companion, meeting his eyes for a split second. He noticed the same look in the boy’s eyes, and in the way he acted. They were both born to lead, and despite Yosuke’s competitive nature and never back down attitude, he knew it would be best to work together. He nodded, as a truce, and ran off towards a pile of ice to wait for whoever carved out the makeshift bowl. Once they were ready and stood next to him, he focused his chakra once more.
Don’t mess up now.

“Fire style,” He took a deep breath, “Thermal Maw Jutsu.” A small fire ignited from his mouth and began to melt away at the edges of the ice. “Hold the bowl steady and beneath the dripping, gather as much water as we can.”

He stood from his crouched position besides the ice and stared off towards the front of snow getting closer and closer, then back to Moon Sensei and his dire wolf that were both safe in their own shelter. “Hurry it up everyone!” He shouted at the top of his lungs, “We don’t have all day!”

Asami fell into place fairly quickly, unwilling to make herself the centre of attention for much longer. She’d already botched her first impression, arriving late, and looking as if she’d been more interested in tree camouflage than showing up on time. As the man spoke, she reached back and pulled the most obvious twigs free of her plait. She was fair from the picture of perfection she’d prefer to be, but there was only so much she could do, especially when she was mere moments from being abducted. …Wait, what? What was that about no support? That wasn’t how classes worked. If they weren’t going to have any help, what was the point in having a ‘teacher’ arou-

She wouldn’t get to finish asking herself the question, let alone get an answer. All thoughts were overridden by an overbearing alarm. By the time she fought to fight against her new restraints, the poison had already begun to take hold. She attempted to fight back, throwing her hands against her assailant as best a panicked student could, but her attempts were both feeble and futile. Just as the rest of her peers had, she succumbed to their might within seconds.
***
Bitter cold. That was the first sensation to reach her. Every fibre of her being felt a freeze she had been careful to avoid throughout her life. The noises followed shortly after. Howling winds, something barking at her, and a wolf following suit. Sense took hold, and she sprung upwards, into a seated position. The girl was far from the adventurous type, but even she could tell they were atop a mountain from a cursory glance. How the hell? The memories came back, piece by piece, as she stumbled back onto her feet. She had been blindsided – from the sounds of it, they all had been. All part of the class. The shouting man barely showed it, but she couldn’t help but feel he’d derived some sick pleasure from their ‘surprise’. It was hard to imagine a sane man would consider their current situation a safe learning environment, in her mind.

She did her best to listen through nature’s screams. Survive? Under normal circumstances, she’d say that was fine – staying alive was practically all she wanted to do while she was enrolled. Given their current predicament, however… Doubts began to crawl up her back. She was no wilderness expert, but even she could tell that man was not built to survive in their climate for long, to say nothing of the storm headed their way. In theory, everything would be fine as long as they followed instructions, but that was much easier said than done. While her comrades sprang into action, trying to play leader or get themselves to safer ground, she reconsidered her options. She turned to face the wall of death. The odds were not in her favour, but her odds dropped to near-zero if she let that thing catch up with her. That much was easily understood.

She had to go down, then. Asami took a few steps closer to the edge, confirming that it was a long way down. That in itself was a problem, but she already had a few more strikes against her. There was a reason most of her classmates hadn’t seen much of her. Despite being one of the oldest in the academy, she was a new recruit. On top of that, her training was fairly skewed; she went out of her way to avoid any classes that offered violence or physical exertion. If she had known this class for what it was, as opposed to a simple camping trip, she wouldn’t have turned up for it either. As a result, the girl was not going to have an easy or fun time getting down, but her options were to try or die. Her clothes were missing, meaning she only had one kunai and a handful of shuriken to make do with. The stars weren’t going to help her climb, and she got the impression that one blade was not the best to climb with. She couldn’t know for sure since their teacher had a very interesting method of teaching.

Her peers tried their best to be useful, leaving gaps in the ice for those behind them. She very much needed them, and even then, she was struggling. The rock may as well have been ice, the wind threatened to throw her off, and she just wasn’t a very good climber (her lack of classes played a big hand in that). Her only saving grace was her chakra control – the wall-walking jutsu saved her from many a nasty slip, but not all of them. She missteped, grabbed loose rocks, dangled with one arm… By some miracle, she never fell far, since it would have only taken one blow to the head to finish her.

All the while, she couldn’t rid herself of a recurring thought: This was a very bad idea.

Regardless of whether one of her peers chose to take pity on her, she made it down eventually, with many a fresh wound to tell the tale. She would have been surprised to see that anybody had completed their descent after she did, considering that any trained shinobi should not have struggled as much. One look at her face told that she was having a miserable time, and there was only so much she could do to fix that. Her hands came together to form a few handseals, and she silently manifested her jutsu. The Immolation Armor would serve to stave off the cold, with the added bonus of clearing her thoughts a little. For a few minutes, she remained where she was at the base of the crag, allowing herself time to take a few breaths and try to stay calm. She was far from done if she wanted to survive the night. Thankfully, her peers were on the ball. A shelter had been formed, wood was being gathered, ice was melted…

They all looked so capable and confident, and all she could think about was staying alive. Needless to say, she wasn’t in much of a mood for co-operation or talking, so she put herself to work with the easiest task available. She scooped mud up and off the ground, assisting with the insulation of the dome. It was an all-around terrible idea, considering both of her palms were still bleeding, and she was only dirtying the wounds, but a fair bit of her rational thought had been stolen away by the cold. If she was bound to give herself an infection, it was unlikely to show itself for a few hours, and only if nobody felt the need to stop her.

Oushi sunk his chin into the collar of his jacket, taking clear notice of the annoyed look being sent his way by the young man in charge. He must have arrived a little later than he would have liked. Maybe he should have gotten out the door of his dorm sooner than he had? The boy had begun to slump his shoulders, but instantly stiffened when he heard the approach of another pair of footsteps, crunching the ground beneath them. He quickly glanced behind him to see who it was, only to find out that it was another female student to join them. The survival training hadn’t even started yet and the quiet boy already had a weary look to his caramel brown orbs. While she situated herself among the other students of the class, Oushi quickly straightened up and kept his gaze forward, focusing on the lesson ahead.

Kyo was straight to the point with it, and that the boy could admire. He would much rather keep himself busy than dally around and listen to a long winded lecture on how to get things done. Hands on was more appropriate for a type such as he. Oushi refused to give a single thought to the mention of parents. His were no good anyways. Even after he was bought, they never wrote to him or anything, so that was one less thing he had to worry about and could check off his list. The comment Kyo had issued was curious though. They were out for a survival training class after all, so wouldn’t other already notify their own parents they would be gone? That would be made a lot clearer, but not till later, unfortunately. He could feel the sudden presence of a damp cloth smothering his face, the strong smell attached to it making quick work of the boy. The last thing he could hear were the muffled words of ‘Nighty night!’ before he was dropped off at snooze town.

A cold feeling...loud wind...and a noisy direwolf. These were all things he wished he hadn’t been awaken by. ‘Wa...wait...I was sleeping?’ The boy’s thoughts were drowsy, but would wake up with him soon enough. Looking around through squinting eyes from cold winds and sideways snow, he could at least see that everyone was still around...but where? At the top of a mountain? He felt a little lighter than before and soon realized that he no longer had his bag with him, but at least he had his few ninja tools. The wind blew through him and he decided it would be best to put his hood up, the warm yet worn lining provide minor comfort. Kyo was still yelling over the wind though, more for further details rather than trying to get everybody up.

This was the true face of their survival training. Their extra belongings had purposefully been taken from them, as if this were an actual survival situation, they wouldn’t of had them. It would also be required of them to survive for 24 hours in their environment. Oushi rubbed his hands together to try and keep them warm, stuffing them in his deep jacket pockets when he had enough of the friction. His eyes wandered to the skyline, taking in the highly visible storm that was approaching them. That. That was what they had to survive in. The boy grimaced slightly before accepting it fully. ‘Ah...what I’ll do for a passing mark. Onwards then.’

Now was the time for them to move to lower ground. The path there, was not a pleasant one though. It would require some good control to scale down that surface, let alone good rock climbing skills. ‘A good experience, I said. Sure.’ The boy mulled over his thoughts, cautiously looking over the edge as Kyo made his way down the cliffside and to the bottom of the crag. Shizuka seemed quick to get a move on first, though he cringed a little at her burst of required assistance from him. He would have to try his best to keep all panic attacks in check, should the situation arise. Others were quicker than him still to begin their descent, noticeably so the boy with the akita pup draped over his shoulder. Even Yosuke followed suit, though that was to be expected.

The purple haired boy slowly breathed out through his nose, looking to bring mind over matter and begin his own descent down the cliffside. It would take focus, but he didn’t have a choice. At least his chakra control had been improving. He scaled down the snowy rocks as best he could, the cold providing a challenge in keeping his focus. The wind blew his hood down, causing his bound oxen tail of hair to whip around in the wind and slap his face a good couple of times. Eventually, he got fed up with it and gripped the binding between his teeth in order to gain some control at best to the wild tail of hair.

About two thirds of the way, he could feel his chakra control on one foot give way, causing him to slip a short ways down the crag. He quickly caught hold of some rocks as best he could with his numbing fingers, staying still a moment so he could get his concentration back. Oushi dared not jumped down at any height, even if he was close to the bottom. The cold made him feel like his legs would give out from underneath him if he even tried to land and roll. By the time he actually got near the bottom, he darn well slide the rest down till the soles of his boots hit solid ground.

With his hands free at last, the boy spat his oxen tail out and pulled his hood back up, hoping to keep it from slapping his face in the cold wind. His arrival at the treeline gave him sight of the wooden structure, the bigger logs of which he could only assume Shizuka had a hand in doing so with her mokuton. Was that what she wanted him to help with? His eyes lowered to the base of the structure, noticing others collecting mud and sticks in order to strengthen it. The ground wasn’t going to be comfortable. Well, nothing about this was going to be comfortable, but the least he could do was smooth out their shelter space. With some minor concentration on the area, he struck the ground with the sole of his boot, causing the rocks within the ground below the structure to build up at the base to help strengthen it, the earth which they were removed from smoothing over.

Moving. He needed to keep moving. Noticing the knife Yosuke had thrown on the ground, the boy looked after him as he requested bowls to be fashioned so that they could gather melted water. The quiet boy, who’s cowlick would remain especially untameable in such weather, gave a nod quickly moved to pick it up. He’d need to find some wood or something that he could carve. Spotting an already knocked over tree, the trunk just big enough for carving, Oushi stashed the knife away in one of his deep pockets and cleared his mind. Albeit a little clumsy with cold hands, the boy made some hand seals and then stomped on the ground, a stone rising from the ground in front of him. Glad to put his body to motion, he spun and kicked the stone at the fallen tree with enough force to break clean through the wood.

Taking his chunk of carving wood under arm, Oushi pulled out Yosuke’s knife and began whittling away at the wood. It was better this way. It gave him something to focus on, so much so that what female presence there was in their party, wasn’t bothering him. He could have walked past them and brushed against them and the boy wouldn’t have panicked. Thank heavens for small miracles. Making his way over to where the pink haired boy was by quick glance, he hollowed out the wood a smidge more before tucking the knife back into his pocket and presenting the super ruggedly wooden bowl to his friend with a determined nod. He wasn’t sure how he felt about being so close to a fire jutsu, but he stood his ground kept still so he didn’t miss catching the water.

Her ears flicked back and perked up again. Moving against her usually tight control over her own body, the wind itself seemed to be telling her senses that something wasn't quite right. Any ANBU related instructor would probably do something awful, and she really didn't want to get eaten by a big fuck off sized dog-wolf thing. Whichever it was. She wasn't even sure what breed got to be almost as big as she was and could probably destroy her skull with one crunch.

The rag against her face startled her. A struggle, futile as it was, ensued with her squirming, clawing, trying to bite through the rag to get to the hand holding it. She too, succumbed to blackness, and slumped.

Only to wake up nauseated, dizzy, and completely disoriented some unknown amount of time later. Snow on the ground, the sharp bite of winter air in her nose, and the whole darkening skies above her still spinning and spinning and spinning...

Natsumi leaned over and quietly retched, emptied her body of what little food she'd had in her excitement to be off, and hastily covered it. Wiped her mouth with the back of her hand and listened to the instructor while her ears, eyes, and senses picked up the weather and surroundings. Storm coming-- and on the mountains? That was going to be one hell of a death sentence to most of them; white out conditions, avalanche possibilities, howling bitter winds and, last but not least of all, the cold.

And down the mountain they went. Natsumi thrilled by the idea of scaling the sheer face, happily went down as one of the first, scouring hand and footholds for those without claws to help secure them with all the enthusiasm of the young and excited. Survive, huh? She could do that!

People split the task among themselves, running around to gather bracken and fallen boughs, stones, and whatever else they could find to insulate the shelter. She frowned, brow furrowing. They had snow, didn't they see that? They could build a great shelter out of that and-- ahh, to the demons with it. They had a wooden frame work, might as well go with it.

She studied the clouds above, frowning as the wind tickled the sensitive hairs within her ears. Northeast. Blizzards always hit from that direction, the silvery underbelly a key indicator of the incoming storm.

"Make sure you really renforce and pad the northeastern wall; the worst of the snow, ice, and wind is gonna hit from that direction." Natsumi called out to those focusing on the wall itself. Paused as she caught sight of a girl with blue eyes looking... lost? Unsure? Something that wasn't productive or useful to the group.

She bounded over to the girl haphazardly slapping mud on the wall, grabbed her shoulder and gave it a brief shake. "Wool gathering isn't gonna make you safe, come with me. We're gonna build the other part of this shelter with snow-- better for your hands than mud." She'd smelled the bloody scratches when she'd gotten closer.

For someone so young, the cold didn't seem to be bothering her as much as it should have. She was still cold, mind you, but not the kind of shivering shuddering not able to think properly kind that seemed to be hurting her fellow students.

"If you ever built a snow fort, think of it like that just bigger." She mimed a good height just a little smaller than the wooden poles. She called out to the others too. "If anyone's free, come help build a snow wall for the open side! We can get this done quick!"

And started piling up and packing the snow from the edge of the dome shelter upward. Made the base as best she remembered how to and began moving it outward. This was gonna be the weirdest snow fort-house combination ever; half wood and mud, half snow. Four, no, five feet would work for how tall it'd need to be. Even if they only got the sides with just an open swath for air flow, that'd be enough. She'd take a side by the entrance to help people who were, err, more susceptible to the cold.

Her tongue poked out the corner of her mouth, dark brows furrowed in complete concentration when the thought hit her.

"Oh shit, we need to lay branches down inside too, or we'll get cold from laying on or sitting on the ground."

Turned her head and yelled to the person closest to her that wasn't her hopefully helping girl with the hurt hands. "Remember to get branches for the floor of the shelter! Laying or sitting on the cold ground without something under our asses will hurt us too!"

[col]Kyo's eyes watched the students frantically find their ways down the mountain top towards the steady slope. A look of pride and disappointment crossed his lips, but the thing that caught his attention the most was one boy in particular; Takeshi. He was bold and stepped up as the leader of the pack -- the alpha. A little grin came across his lips, knowing children this age were full of pride and wanted to be the ones to take charge. This will be exciting to see where it would go. All Kyo would do for now was observe. He noticed other smaller things like Shizuka making sure most of the members were doing fine, which was a good start. In a survival situation like this when you are with a group, numbers will ensure your survival. Even Kyo, who only had a small den of direwolves, couldn't have survived those 10 years on the Spine of the World all by himself. He had a support structure, even if they weren't event from the same species.

He watched the children make their way down the mountain's peek and noticed a couple things. The boy with the pink hair -- his hands were just as scarred as his own. Another creature with battle scars. Each scar told it's own tale and it would be interesting, to Kyo, to hear of the boy's war-stories. Then a red-haired girl seemed to have issues going down the mountain's face by herself. Kyo had no desire to help her -- his only directive was to return the children alive. While he wouldn't tell the children that he would return them all home safely, he could lead them to believe that they really were in a life and death situation. If Kyo, a feeble child/monster of a rich and powerful merchant, could learn and live through this then those who inherited the power of a shinobi should be able to handle this just fine.

One of the boys slipped and fell only to quickly regain their composure, even taking slightly longer than usual, to climb down the crag. This caused Kyo to raise a brow as there were already students down at the ground level. He eventually made his way down and his eyes turned towards the last child only to see the catgirl quickly scale the mountain. Kyo sucked air between his teeth in disappointment. It was at this moment that all of the players have gathered to start building their temporary house. Some ninjutsu was used to conjure up the materials but the building was reliant on the children's skill. A big smile came across Kyo's face at the fact that Shizuka showed some restraint for the sake of the class.

More of the children's intelligence started to peek through as they started using immolation armor upon themselves. A jutsu that Kyo was very intimate with and it was smart thinking on part of one of their leaders to make the done fireproof. Very good. But it wasn't until the second child started to bark orders did Kyo start getting REAL interested. It was then that Kyo took a seat in his crappily built hut and watched the children build their shelter. They all seemed to work very well together, which was a complete shock to Kyo. He was expecting disappointment only to be amazed at the level of teamwork this temporary pack had created.

After the shelter was completely created, Kyo waved a hand in the air and, as if on queue, Dakota let out a bark to get the children's attention. Once he did, he held up 10 fingers twice and then pointed out at the storm. Originally, he was going to have one of the ANBU who controlled the weather kill the storm, but he wanted to see how these children would break. He wanted one of them, at least one of them, bend and give up. Nature is a brutal mistress and he wanted them to know what it felt like to survive in the wild. Nature was unfair and could do things that could make one feel like the world was against them and Kyo wanted to give them this very feeling. He reached to this headset and pressed it in. "Let the storm ride"

"Are you sure? They are only children"

"If I could survive this hell at the age of 4, these children can do it. They are strong enough," he said teeming with faux confidence. He still wanted to see one of the break and surrender because of this storm. Surrendering to the storm would cause the child to fail this class, but it would also prompt Kyo to kill the storm. Kyo poked his head out of the hut and pointed to their hut. He pointed at the hut and made a 'zip-up' gesture, as if telling the children to get into the hut and protect themselves.

The wind started to howl because of the storm and the air grew more and more cold. The sight of the wall was a stone's throw away. Perhaps he should have given them more than a 20 second warning before the storm hit. Moments after he said that, the storm impacted the mountain that they were on, slamming them with 80 mph/127.8 kph winds. The snow started to bury the makeshift hut that Kyo had build before a powerful galeforce wind blew over Kyo's hut. Well, this was a bad example on what to teach the children but it was also perfect as it showed the ferocity of nature, itself. Seeking refuge, Kyo looked around, covering his eyes from the snow. Feeling a tug at the back of his shirt, he was carried away by the direwolf that he had by his side who dug a hole into the ground for the two to lay in.

The storm lasted for 3 hours
After the storm had concluded, the children would find their way out of their single massive dome difficult as the entrance was entirely caked in snow. Once they exit, if they exit, the children noticed that Kyo's hut was gone but there was a huge hole dug into the snow directly behind their hut. The hole, however, looked collapsed with snow breaching the opening. For those that were extra observant, they'd see straws sticking out of the snow before Kyo's and Dakota's head popped up out of the snow. The duo dug themselves out of the snowy prison before grumbling to himself.

"Good job, all of you. Some of you took the role of leader and everyone else complied and worked together to make that sturdy castle. Unlike mine," Kyo said as he collected the collection of sticks. "Sometimes, nature can be cruel," he said before gathering the sticks in front of their shelter and used a small fire jutsu and built the children a campfire. His eyes turned to Shizuka and spoke out to her. "I need fuel for this wood," he said before turning to look towards Takeshi and Yosuke and gave them a big grin and a nod.

"You all did well and I'm sure you are all hungry. Let's hunt. Chose amongst yourself who will come with me and Dakota and who, if any, will stay behind at camp," Kyo stated.|

Rubbing her hands together in an attempt to warm them up she knew that with the wind still biting into her skin warming up would be difficult. Still she tried because performing any other jutsu would be very difficult once the feeling in her fingers vanished completely. Luckily her team members were gradually seeping into the area she had picked, and with the guys shouting orders here and there, the building of the shelter really took off. A part of her wanted to use another jutsu to strengthen the base, but she figured that it could be done a bit later, from the inside. Now it was better to isolate the bare bones, add twigs, mud, and some snow like the cat had suggested. That way she would be a bit warmer while letting the vines work from the inside, at least she hoped that she would be.

Noticing Asami at the edge of her vision she hurried there. The older girl had seemed to have some trouble getting here, and Shizuka wanted to see if everything was alright. Besides, even if she didn’t want to be around the cat, helping piling up the snow would be a good idea. That was until she noticed the bits of blood on the pristine white. Everywhere Asami touched there were traces of crismon.

“Hey!” Shizuka pulled down her scarf just enough to show her lips. “Hey, stop, Asami!” Without thinking she reached out, grabbing the girl by the wrist. Deep cuts were soon revealed to the Senju’s widening eyes. Oh damn, her friend was hurt.

“What’s the deal?” Angrily turning to the cat, Shizuka still held onto her friend. Her eyes narrowed, voice dropped a bit. She was getting upset. “Having her freeze off her hands before they get infected and need to be amputated?”

Before things could escalate, she gently but firmly led Asami to the other side of the rapidly forming shelter. It was cold, and the ground was hard, but they would have to do this before one of them got too tired or ill. So, gesturing at some twigs she sat down, waiting for Asami to do the same. Luckily the touching of snow had cleaned the wounds, mostly. Biting back any sort of comment that might embarrass or anger Asami, she quickly made her way to Yosuke and Oushi, stealing one of their cups of water with the short claim of needing it. Well, she did need it. They had to wash out the remaining dirt first.

“Now, this shouldn’t hurt but.. I’m sorry if it does.” She knew no medical jutsu, but she did know how to heal herself, a little. Hopefully it worked the same for anyone else, then the cuts should mostly close.

Taking the injured hands in her own, she slowly started to channel chakra toward the surface of her palms. For a moment she wasn’t sure if it worked, no visible chakra entered the cuts, but soon they knitted themselves shut. One by one, at a steady pace, all of the cuts were closing with just a bit of vapor coming from each wound. It didn’t take long, but it did eat away at Shizuka’s energy reservoir. The other smaller chakra bubble had been drained by quite a bit, not that she would show anyone.

“I think.. that’s it. Do you have more cuts?” she wanted to know, realizing that she was sweating a little despite the cold.

Once Asami was back to her old self, Shizuka decided to cover the floor with some vines -and have them grip at the bases of the logs- just to help with the general structure. Another bite in her chakra, but not enough to have her pass out. She did, however, end up sitting in the corner, on some of the vines which had curled across the area and onto the dome’s walls. Just a minute, she figured, to catch her breath. Hiding her hands in her pockets, she briefly closed her eyes just top open them when everyone was already stuffed inside.

“Everyone alright?” Gently nudging the one next to her, she stifled a yawn with her back of her hand. The air had grown warmer now that everything had been isolated, but the noises coming from the outside were still terrifying. She really hoped that the shelter would last. Should the wind tear off a part of the dome, then they would be in some big trouble.

Hungry, she decided to nap so the noises her stomach made from time to time wouldn’t embarrass her. Besides, the storm would pass quicker if she wouldn’t have to think about it. Someone would probably wake her up once they had to dig themselves out. Curling a little tighter, she closed her eyes again, feeling quite warm, wondering why her body was so heavy.

Yosuke nodded at his purple haired friend, thanking him for his help, and led him back into the shelter everyone worked so hard on building. He looked at it with a sense of pride, his peers had made this using Jutsus and skills they all learned in class. Something that could help them survive through harsh conditions, with sturdy walls that were insulated. But then he began to ponder on what he was good at. He glanced down at his badly scarred hand, and balled it into a fist. Fire. Fire can only burn, destroy, burn everything and have it dwindle away to ashes. Fire can not start a life, only take one, and while it can maintain a life it could also spring out of control. He could feel the heat in his hands from the immolation armor, it created a small line of steam that danced to the ceiling of their shelter. He decided it would be best to deactivate the Jutsu for now. But he couldn’t help but feel jealous, and in fact, a little angry. Was that why he trained as hard as he did? He admired the strong and envied those who took a role of leadership over that of himself. Jealousy?

He didn’t let the jealousy manifest itself across his face, and instead kept his calm half lidded eyes glued onto the two girls working on the icy side of the shelter. Suddenly though Shizuka came in, and shot the pretty girl from earlier a nasty look, deeming her responsible for the damages she could’ve caused Asami, another girl that Shizuka would frequently talk about. He watched the argument, if you could call it that, unfold as Shizuka pulled Asami away to one corner.

“Shizu, I think it’s just a misunderstanding,” He held his hands up, trying to calm his friend’s anger, “I’m sure she wasn’t trying to hurt, Asami.”
But that’s all he could’ve said at the moment. He didn’t want to anger Shizuka, so instead he let her handle the situation the way she always could, and didn’t stop her from taking some of the water for Asami’s hands. When everyone rushed into the dome, and huddled up, Yosuke decided to sit besides the girl Shizuka reprimanded. He removed the ‘bandana’ he made with the tape and what used to be his glove, letting it drop down onto his lap. He looked at the girl with a smile, and calm eyes.

“I’m sorry about Shizuka, she gets like that sometimes,” He scratched the back of his head, “I’m Shimamura Yosuke by the way! I saw you on the boat to the tea few months back, but I never got to know you by name.” He reached out with his scarred hand, hesitated and pulled it back to hide the scars. Instead he extended the other hand, hoping that she would welcome it.

He blushed a little and turned his attention back to everyone else in the dome, “We did good guys, all of us,” He took a deep breath, “Now we just wait this out and hope it holds up.”

It held up. Which was great news. He couldn’t fall asleep, even though he desperately wanted to. The howling wind, the thought of it collapsing, and the anger that still haunted him kept him awake. He looked at Oushi when he thought the storm calmed, and his lips curved.

“Do you hear that?” He gave a joyful chuckle and jumped to his feet, “The storm, it passed.” It felt like the storm was raging for days on end! He took a few minutes, to make sure it was all over and then motioned them over to the entrance that was covered in snow. “Stand back a little bit.”

Serpent, Ram, Monkey, Boar, Horse, Tiger. He formed the hand signs with ease, inhaled his chakra infused breath, and out came a fireball from his mouth bursting through the thick layer of snow. The pride he felt earlier grew tenfold when he saw the outcome of Moon Sensei’s own shelter. It was blown away and he had to hide underground with his dire wolf to stay safe from the storm.

When he told them to choose amongst themselves with who wanted to go hunting with him he jumped up at the opportunity. “I’d like to go,” He looked at his Sensei with eager and confident eyes, then turned to face the rest of the group, “If that’s alright with all of you”. He could tell that Moon Sensei was especially pleased with him and Takeshi, with the smile he sent their way. That meant the world to the boy confused with about his emotions of rage and jealousy.

"Shit." Takeshi swore as the cat girl suggested padding out the interior floor of their dome. He hadn't thought of that but she was right, he was too busy thinking about building the shelter to consider what would happen once it was complete and they were all inside it. Part of him deflated a little, disappointed with himself for forgetting something so simple. Then he began second guessing himself even more, wondering what else he might have forgotten and he ran through a mental checklist, retrieving rocks and stuffing his pockets with leaves and twigs. Warmth, shelter, insulation, warm water, bedding, was there anything else? Trying to find something within the folds of his grey matter that he wasn't even sure existed froze him harder than the cold could have and stood for a few moments simply staring at the snow. What was he missing? Kumo bounded directly into his line of sight and gave an almighty bark to be heard over the roaring snow. That bark pierced the haze that had descended over the young man. With a growl he tore himself away from his own action paralysis and trudged back to the shelter through the snow, whatever he was missing would have to stay missed, the only thing that mattered was making sure the things he did remember were getting done. Hopefully anything else would come to him before the storm hit.

Returning to find that their shelter had been covered with leaves and twigs on the outside and plastered over with mud on the inside gave him back a part of the courage that had been lost. Surely this was enough, right? A cursory glance was given to the pampered girl who had suffered injuries; part of him thought that she deserved it, the more rational side of him encouraged Brave Girls medical care. Any injury deep enough to draw blood was bad news in cold weather. He set about scattering bits of yellowed grass, leaves, and twigs around their shelter, making sure to keep it all well away from the center where he'd dumped the stones and kindling. By then the warm water began rolling in and Takeshi took a few gulps from one of the bowls before waving the rest away. Then the fire had to be made.

Before Takeshi could set to work on it though a great deep note resonated through the trees and he stood abruptly from the edge of the little fire pit he'd dug out. Kumo too had jumped to his feet. Poking his head out to see the source of the noise Takeshi didn't see their instructor's warning, couldn't find the wolf that had howled, the storm had already engulfed them. Sharp eyes grew wide and a twinge of fear made a grasp for his heart.

"Get in and hunker down, the storms about to hit!"

The first ten minutes of the storm was spent pulling everybody back into the hut and settling them down to wait it out. The first thing the boy clad in leather and fur did was finish his fire. He had no skill with the elemental jutsus and was too proud to accept help from those who did, masking that pride as an opportunity to show everybody else how to light a fire without jutsu or technology. It took a lot longer than it could have, but in the end he managed it and soon their dark little hovel was alight with a warm glow.

Brave Girl had nodded off, and as loathe as he was to remove it he took off the cloak that hung about his shoulders, draping it around hers instead. His physical frame was a juxtaposition of his personality. Lanky, thin, frail, almost feminine, slightly too short for his own sword; the tip of it's sheathe dragged along the ground as he walked. All the same he tried to keep up an air of assured control.

"That thing's big enough for one or two more to fit under, if you're cold share my cloak, but keep an eye on Brave Girl. She used the most jutsu out of all of us. Kumo can share his body heat with anybody else who needs the extra warmth." An affirming playful rumble came from his dogs throat and the canine rolled over on to his back to let them know he wasn't going to be any harm. "Pinkhair already told you, but you all did well. All that's left now is to wait this thing out. I'll watch the fire to make sure it doesn't burn out, everyone else get some rest." He pulled out the remaining twigs and leaves from his pockets and dumped them in a clear space of their hut.

And then Takeshi sat by the fire and was silent. Conversation bloomed, soared, and died around him, and he joined in when he was prompted.

"I'd forgotten about bedding." He confessed to the feline girl during one of those bursts of social activity. "Thanks."
"And there I was thinking you were gonna be a liability because of the color of your hair." He confided in Pinkhair. "Glad I was wrong."
"I'll be honest, I don't even know why you're here. But you did your best so I guess that counts for something." He told pampered girl.

The wood of their shelter creaked and groaned under the strength of the storm and more than once Takeshi was afraid that it'd be torn off of them and expose them to the slicing winds. Whatever Brave Girl had done though it was strong enough to withstand and Takeshi spent the majority of his time prodding the embers and tossing in some twigs just to watch them blacken and char. He leaned his arms on his knees and brought his hands together beneath his chin, resting his head. The first hour passed slowly. There were no books to read, no room to practice, only his thoughts and the talking around him to entertain him. He could have honed the edge of his sword, but he was afraid that the noise would wake the sleepers. Then all of a sudden Yosuke was breaking down the entrance of their dome and Takeshi gave a start. He couldn't tell if he'd fallen asleep or if Pinkhair had lost his mind.

When the light broke through and he saw the sky though he felt relief. The storm had passed. Leaving the sleepers to their dreams Takeshi joined the others that had remained awake and stepped outside to survey their new situation, only to find that their teachers own shelter was gone. Circling around the investigate the disappearance they discovered the hole mere moments before both Kyo and his direwolf broke the surface of the snow and dragged themselves out. Had he been listening in on them from down there? How had he not frozen to death?

Dubious about the intent of their teacher all of a sudden Takeshi set himself to waking people up and letting them know what was going on. Brave Girl he woke last, though he let her keep the cloak, she looked like she needed it. When he returned their teacher was suggesting a hunting trip and Takeshi couldn't help himself. In any other situation he'd restrain himself and follow orders, but their lives were forfeit if anything went wrong. Even if he was their teacher, he wasn't infallible, the fact that his own shelter had been blown away proved that.
