Name: Ryunaramaru Jin
In Character Rank: Chuunin
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Bloodline Haku
Physical Description: For the most part, Jin is your run-of-the-mill shinobi steadily working his way up in his fledging career as a ninja. At 6’0’’ and 180 lbs he’s fairly tall and lithely-built for speed, but considering he’s essentially employed to be a cold-blooded war machine on legs, he’s hardly that imposing. Jin is usually robed in traditional shinobi attire: dark, tight-fitting clothes for optimal mobility and his Cloud headband protecting his forehead. What really makes Jin stand out, however, is his spiky red hair – it’s not uncommon for strangers to think, from a distance, that his head is on fire. However, when one gets a clear view of his face, his blazing hairdo is instantly offset by his calm, watery blue eyes that look like two round chasms bored into his skull.
Personality: Having already skirted the jowls of death once in his young shinobi career, Jin approaches life with a certain somber understanding that he’s one of a very fortunate few who have been given a second chance to experience and take pleasure in the joys of this world. While cheerful and happy-go-lucky as a kid, the burden of his incredible fortune has humbled Jin to his very core, and he no longer is very visible in his display of emotion. Though he may come off as stoic and reserved in his manners, however, does not mean Jin is devoid of energy; in fact he often exudes vigor and approaches any small task like a decree from a king, exhausting the reservoirs of his stamina and effort to do the best job imaginable. Jin is zealous in love for Cloud Village and would jump on an enemy’s sword to protect any individual member of his cherished homeland. Always polite and willing to do a good deed, Jin is great to have in one’s company, yet too distant to make many best friends.
History: Jin was born to two shinobi parents of Cloud Village: his father, in particular, a celebrated and feared fire-wielding Jounin. From the moment young Jin opened his eyes to the strange world before him, and cried his first tears, it was all but assumed he would be charged with following in his old man’s footsteps. However, destiny was thrown a wrench one day when Jin was in his early teens. While training alone on the lofty mountain peaks of Cloud Village, just one of the many grueling tasks Jin’s father assigned him to strengthen will and experience as a ninja, Jin lost track of his bearings and soon found himself lost in the middle of an unending plane of snow. For weeks he wandered around these peaks, trudging for miles upon miles yet seeming to never move an inch because all he saw was white…everywhere. Around a month into his journey, Jin had given up his final sliver of hope. His supplies, even as meagerly as he rationed them, were all but dried up and though he pined for a night’s rest, the interminable frigid air and falling snow made sleep impossible. With his body weary and immobile, and all his muscles frozen like an ice cube, he collapsed one morning and just lay there peacefully, watching his body entombed by a layer of snow. He was fully prepared to die right then and there: after all, if he couldn’t even survive in the mountains where he was born, what could he possibly amount to in the hallowed role as a ninja. A pack of snarling wolves made their way to his body however, and Jin resolved with a dejected sigh that while he would indeed be dying right there today, he would be going a bit more painfully than initially estimated. The wolves were about to pounce on his immobile body when all of the sudden a herd of polar bears intercepted the attack and sent the wild dogs cowering. This noble act of altruism by the bears reinvigorated the previously quiescent Jin and at that moment the herd became like brothers to him. For several more weeks he wandered the mountain peaks with the bears as their compatriot, proving incredibly valuable by using his extensive shinobi training to assist in catching food. Remarkably, as he spent more and more time hunting with the polar bears, his jutsu began to take on a life of its very own. In the past he had yet to truly acquire an elemental affinity, unlike his father who was a savant with fire, but up in the mountains his connection with the ice element increased by the day. With ease, he found himself able to manipulate the limitless supply of snow around him to fight off predators and craft shelter when it was time to rest for the night. After another month spent fortifying his newfound proficiency with ice jutsu, the bears finally lead him to the base of the mountain where he tearfully gave his last farewells and headed back home. When at last he came upon his house he opened the door to find his whole extended family jauntily applauding his entrance and the biggest cake he had ever laid eyes on affixed in the center of the room. It turned out that through his entire journey spanning months atop Cloud’s tallest mountain range, his father had been tailing him in the shadows, watching his progress. He had fought the brutal conditions and unforgiving cold the whole time with Jin, yet as much as it pained him, never once intervened because he knew that survival instinct was something he could not teach: Jin would have to learn on his own. Over roughly two months he had watched his son blossom from a young, inexperienced ninja still searching for his niche in the trade to a hardened veteran whose elemental ninjutsu had jumped up an exponential curve. After a couple of days of much needed rest, Jin’s father gave him the OK to enroll in Cloud’s prestigious Shinobi Academy, and since then he’s excelled at every task thrown his way. While he never forgot the bond formed with the polar bears that saved his life, he expanded that strong sense of loyalty and devotion to the entire Cloud nation, dedicating his life that had been saved in the face of certain death to protecting his Village with every molecule of his being. Now a freshly-minted Chuunin, the sky is the limit for the 18-year-old Ryunaramaru Jin, who continues to search for new ways to serve the Village Hidden in the Clouds.
