Acupuncture

One benefit to the Sharingan eyes was the ability to almost predict the precise movements and placement of enemies before they even made them. This became an increasingly beneficial bonus as Satsumaru began using the senbon as a regular piece of his arsenal. Whereas his ninjutsu obliterated and his genjutsu debilitated, there were certain applications that needed a more direct combination of the two. The senbon, metal slivers that relied on accuracy and skill more than anything, allowed him this. And when guided by the inescapable Mangekyou Sharingan and Satsumaru's lightning reflexes, the senbon proved to be a deadly tool. Ever the studious one, Satsumaru began researching the human anatomy to discern exactly where the best spots for the needles to impact were. Soon, he learned which locations would numb an arm or deaden a leg, and it made him that much more deadly for the knowledge. Even devoid of chakra, he now had methods to incapacitate and silence his targets...

Called Shot

Along with his knowledge of Acupuncture, Satsumaru began almost non-stop training in perfecting his senbon technique. While many simply saw senbon as a way to throw a barrage of small projectiles, he saw them as precision tools designed for tactical usage. With him, the silver slivers didn't fly haphazardly through the air to puncture his enemies, they were targeted with extreme planning. If a man raised a blade, a senbon would quickly find its way into a nerve center and render that arm useless. If he tried to flee, a few senbon to the legs would drop him like a rock. If they tried to yell for help, a needle would see them silenced...or a rock, if he felt merciful, but the point is the same.

Fearless

It is human nature to fear one’s own demise. It is ingrained in our genetics, and it is hard-written into our nature. We are meant to survive, and at our very core, we will do all that we can to do so. However, a shinobi who truly recognizes the nature of their existence is different. They are, in most cases, death incarnate. They take lives, and will do so until death claims their own.

Satsumaru knew from an almost disturbingly young age that death was synonymous with life for a ninja. It wasn’t until the discovery of his past that he became truly accepting of death, and was freed of the fear of dying. His younger brother, one whom he had never even met, had died. His parents, also dead. People died without end. It was a part of the flow of the universe, and they lived in a world that ran on death. With this understanding, Satsumaru was ‘enlightened’. Without the fear of death, he became fearless entirely. Neither pain nor his own demise frightened him anymore.

Insight II

Certain people in the world live one step at a time, accepting all they see and focusing entirely on the step right before them. Others, however, instinctively see beyond the immediate and subconsciously read their surroundings. Satsumaru, a strategist and Uchiha, was one such person. Even from the start of his time at the Academy, he seemed to understand beyond what was put right in front of him, and caught even the most subtle hints or gestures. He could usually tell when another student was lying, or catch slight disturbances that tipped him off to an ambush or attack coming his way. Such insight was invaluable to a ninja, and it proved a saving grace on multiple occasions. A natural mind for strategy saw when opportunities were present, and a keen insight revealed which were likely. Paired together, both traits allowed Satsumaru to see all things for what they were, and understand what would be reality before it was made so.

Jutsu Mastery

Jutsu, in every form, are the foremost weapons in a ninja’s arsenal. While weapons and tools are the wakizashi, jutsu are the katana itself - ready to strike down a ninja’s opponent with all necessary force. While most utilized jutsu in their arts, Satsumaru obsessed over them. He studied them relentlessly and made it a necessity to not only learn jutsu, but to master them completely. He wouldn’t stop training until he knew the ins and outs of how they worked, how best to utilize his handseals, and how to manipulate his chakra more efficiently. Any cut-rate Genin could use a jutsu that threw flames at an enemy, but only a true master could control those flames and conserve his chakra in doing so. Such perfection created a stronger jutsu with less strain on the user. And in Satsumaru’s line of work, such differences were what separated the living from the dead...

Quickdraw

In mastering the use of senbon, Satsumaru’s accuracy and lethality were honed to perfection. However, there remained the important factor of reaction time. A volley of senbon thrown allowed the opponent to react from the moment they saw the flash of silver hit their eye to the span of time when the needles traveled through the air. This was unacceptable. The long-haired Uchiha knew that he needed to allow no room for his enemy to react, and began training his form to be able to throw a volley in the blink of an eye in any situation. In time, he found the most efficient movements and angles to maintain his deadly precision while managing to cast out his needles with a lightning quick flick of his wrist.

Strategist III

In every war mankind has wages, stories told of the great heroes and kings of old, and their victories. It is rarer, however, to hear of the men who make such victories possible. Beyond strength and skill, there is intellect and cunning. Strategists determined the course of wars, and manipulated events to their liking to ensure the outcome they desired. Satsumaru, an Uchiha of no minor intelligence, was a natural strategist. Throughout his career, he was known for making judgment calls and taking command when missions ran into snags. His knack for planning and keen mind for tactics saved himself and his teammates on numerous occasions, marking him as one of Sunagakure’s foremost strategists and commanders, always willing and able to lead missions and formulate plans for the village’s future.

History: Satsumaru tapped into a legendary jutsu unique to Uchiha of the past during a battle when he was close to meeting his end. Though unable to conjure this 'flame blade' jutsu since, the long-haired shinobi has crafted a physical blade, etched with Runic Terran and infused with the Will of Fire. Dubbed the Eternal Flame, he crafted it to be a legendary blade of the Uchiha clan. Unique to Satsumaru, it holds fire chakra within and the chakra within the blade lends it the ability to damage its victim's chakra and drain some to strengthen its wielder. When wielded by an Uchiha, it can be ignited, forcing the script seals along the blade to glow an orangish hue with fire chakra. This allows the user to channel fire chakra to make jutsu require less from the user itself, as well as lending the blade a searing burn.

History: The Jigoku no Kaze is an ancient weapon of the Uchiha found in Kaze-no-Kuni. It's a signature Uchiha war fan at the end of a pole, acting as a sort of pole-fan. This design was clearly meant to serve as both a forceful amplifier of flame jutsu (as the fan is naturally meant to do), as well as a slashing weapon. It was wrested from its owner's grave by robbers, but was soon recovered by Satsumaru after he hunted and eliminated the thieves. Along with the Eien no Hono, this is one of the Uchiha Shrine's great treasures.
