Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Day 3

Two days out from Cloud lays Ijouhassei Village. This is a small village with a population which farms cattle, though not so much that they have the ability to export it and focus mainly on the milk production.

Nearing the village the Shinobi will begin to question the description given to them by Kushin... which is the description that Kushin got from the Lightning Country Shogun as the first person they see is a late teen boy tending to the cattle, herding them towards the town.

The town itself seems mostly unaffected... though there are clearly groups which are missing upon closer inspection. Older woman and young girls for the most part can't be seen, while only young and teen boys seem to be around. The dead have already been buried and the villagers seem to have continued for the most part with their livelihood.

Making efficient use of their time, as Ayumu was used to traveling outside the village after having numerous missions in other villages, the team was able to make it to the area they were assigned in just under two days. Fortunately the horses were trained rigorously for long distance running to carry shinobi far at a high rate of speed. As they neared the village, Ayumu had his squad slow their pace and keep their eyes open for anything that could be important to the mission. They had been traveling through the countryside for some time now, passing over large plains and by small farms. This village was clearly very rural and consisted of mostly farmland and country folk, though the intel was that this village was a port town. Before they would enter the village proper, Ayumu would have the squad stop completely to discuss their next course of action. He had gone through the folder a few times by now and wanted to make sure the rest of the team was well-informed before they went in.

"Alright, so let's go over what is known here. Something has killed thousands of people, potentially a biohazard of some sort. The villages were affected, but there seems to be no pattern between the villages concerning who was affected. In one village, only the elderly died. In another, everyone died. In our little slice of heaven, it seems most of the men died, while only young and elderly women were affected. On our way here we've seen younger men and boys, so perhaps that aspect of the intel wasn't entirely accurate. We'll have to see for ourselves. That said, this thing, whatever it is, is completely unpredictable at this point. We need to take precautions, which is why I want us to wear these hazmat suits Shinrya-san gave me before we left," he said, near the end reaching in to a belt pouch to pull out a storage scroll. He placed the scroll on the ground and unrolled it flat on the ground before placing his palm on it and releasing chakra in to it. With a puff of smoke, four sets of hazmat suits were summoned on to the circles on the scroll.

"Oh wow, these things are godawful ugly. Sorry guys. Suit up," he said, leaving them to choose their own suit. They were identical and meant to be universally fitting, so it wasn't like it mattered which went to whom. Ayumu took the one nearest him and unfolded it to see how it was supposed to be put on. They were one-piece suits which required you to step in to them and then seal them up with zippers and special chemical resistant tape. It would require them to aid one another with the tape, at least. "Make sure you keep any equipment you need ready access to on the outside," he advised them, lest one seal their gear on the inside and find themselves needing it in the village. Ayumu finished by putting on his boots and gloves, then pulled the breathing apparatus on to his back. He did a quick swap in to the breathing mask while the others were distracted with their own gear. Fortunately, this one hid his face just as well as any ANBU mask. Finally, they would need to seal anything that wasn't sewn together with tape, to make sure nothing could get in, which would require them to aid one another. Since he knew her, Ayumu would ask help from her and help her in return, then help the others if they didn't ask one another.

Once everyone was suited up, Ayumu would turn to address them once more. "Hopefully these won't even be necessary, but we have to be cautious... they seem durable, but if there are any rips in the field, let's get them sealed ASAP. Now I'm not a Med-nin, so I want to hear everyone's opinion on this, especially you two with the medical training. It's unpleasant, but I believe we need to study some bodies and see what we can find out about how they died. If they're already buried, it'll probably require exhuming some, though we'll have to ask permission first. Before that, I'd like to find some people we can talk to and ask about what happened. For now I see no reason for us to stray far from one another. We'll leave the horses here, no need to expose them if anything is infecting the town still," he spoke to the team, at the end gesturing to the horses which were tied up nearby behind some brush, food and water supplied so they could wait.

"Now, does anybody have any objections to that, or ideas of their own? Speak freely," he concluded, opening the conversation up for the others to speak their mind. Hopefully they had some valuable input, or at least agreed with his plan of action for the time being. If they had better ideas, he was not too prideful to change or modify the plan. The medically trained would certainly have more experience with this kind of thing than he. He could only go by what he knew.

By the end of their travel Asuchi felt comfortable on his horse, although his initial inexperience and the sheer length of the journey were manifested in an aching pain around his tailbone that showed no signs of subsiding any time soon. Nearing their assigned village, Asuchi kept his eyes out for anything that could possibly be construed as useful to the mission as he was told.

Initial intel told them that the village was along a major river, just upstream from Port Cirrus. Most of the men died, whether this meant men as in adults or men as in any males was left ambiguous, but the context suggested the latter. Women from early teens to late 30’s mostly survived, but those outside the age range were unluckier, although not completely wiped out.

Nearing the village, their captain signaled to stop, and Asuchi dismounted his horse, rubbing his lower back. He briefly went over what they knew, which included one interesting discontinuity. Their intel said that men of random ages survived, but all they seemed to see were young boys. Unless some men of other ages started popping up, it would seem that their initial information was unreliable at best. After finishing the briefing, Ayumu summoned four hazmat suits out of a scroll, apologized for their appearance, and told them to suit up.

Oh god, he’s right. Whoever designed them needs a course on well… design principles. This might be the ugliest thing I’ve worn since I was 13. Asuchi’s lip curled in disgust at the memory of his fashion choices.
He grabbed one of the suits and began to put it on, heeding Ayumu’s warning about their equipment. He took his shuriken out of his inner coat pockets and threw them into his backpack. While he was in there, he grabbed his headset and put it on his ear. He didn’t actually know if anyone else had one, but better to have it just in case.

He got help from someone taping his suit up, although it was hard to tell who with the infernal things on. Still, they might save his life, and for that they were worth the ugliness and the awkwardness. Barely.

He listened to the ANBU explain the current plan, before asking if anyone had anything to add. Asuchi couldn’t see much wrong with it, it was standard information gathering: talk to the people, look at the evidence.

”It sounds fine to me. I’ve got a headset. If anyone else has one, we could separate if needed and still keep in touch. As for my opinion on this, it’s certainly interesting. It’s possible something could have come from one of the boats down the river, although that would make it likely that Port Cirrus would have some sort of disaster as well. As of yet, this hasn’t happened, so that is unlikely, unless whatever caused it is still in the village and has not made its way downriver. If that’s the case, we may need these hazmat suits. Perhaps the villagers remaining have some sort of resistance to it, that’s why they’re still alive, although honestly I have a weird feeling about this. All three villages affected had different reactions, despite all having some sort of disaster at the exact same time. They must be linked somehow, although there is no obvious candidate to link them. However, based on the unusual apparent survival rate of boys and young men, our intel seems sketchy, if not inaccurate. I say we just start from scratch, follow Ayumu's plan, and see what we make of it. It should be interesting...” He shrugged his shoulders and waited for the rest of his team to pitch in their ideas.

Travelling by horse wasn’t the most comfortable way to travel, but it was much better than by foot. Even better when you’re not actually trying to STEAL the horse. When they reached the village, it was the first time the horses were given a break from the hard ride. Kahako tied her own ride to a tree and petted it while listening to what Ayumu had to say. When she finally got an eye-full of what Kitsune-sensei gave to Ayumu, she stopped moving. “You’re joking, right?” Kahako blurted out before she could really stop herself. However, as Ayumu shrugged into his own hazmat suit she realized that, no, it was not a joke, and Ayumu-the-teaser was being deadly serious.

And she knew he had a point. The best way to stop a plague was to quarantine it, and if whatever the cause of the deaths was airborne, those that were still alive could still be carrying the live virus or bacteria. The four entering the village in order to find a cure or at least what was going on didn’t need to carry it out with them. She sighed. Raiden-sama's offspring, were those things ugly. “Seeing as how there are only certain demographics affected in this village, I feel like you three would be in the greatest of danger. Your ages match those killed, so please be extremely careful.” She said as she grabbed her own hazmat suit. "Though I don't really fit the demographic of those killed here, those that survived might still be carriers."

She didn’t need much help getting it on. Believe it or not, there was medical training for biochemical emergencies (Or maybe Kitsune was just very, very through). She even helped Asuchi’s with his. Once they were suited up Kahako spoke up once again. “I have a headset as well, Asuchi-san. and I suggest we also check the livestock. You’d be surprised how easy it is to make an animal an incubator and have it carry the virus without even effecting the creature.”

Kahako looked at the land before them. “Don’t be surprised if whatever we’re looking at is a different strand of virus or bacteria compared to what hit the other villages,” she mentioned. “This situation is much too similar to a medical test. The village where everyone died could very well be the control group. This village was possibly one of the variable tests.” Kahako squinted her eyes in thought. “The way only certain age groups survived isn’t natural, that is for sure. Maybe certain families with natural immunities, but certainly not only adult-aged women and young boys. Granted this is all conjecture, nothing is certain until tests are done and information is gathered. We should pay attention to see if anyone who wasn’t from the village was around at the time of the deaths. Odds are they would be observing what’s going on around the village, if not taking notes even.”

It sickened Kahako to think someone would use innocent people in such a manner, but she wasn’t a fool to the moral line those in her field toed on a day to day basis. Even more so than that of normal shinobi. “What are your thoughts Keiji-kun?”

Leaving the village on a horse walking with a carrot in it's mouth as it munched was a weird experience, especially when considering that he himself kept munching on the last few of his apples.

Approaching the village getting a view of the few villagers they managed to see was discomforting, not really remembering the words about the village he simply felt disgusted already there.
As they stopped, Keiji jumped up above the Horse's head as he held the reins in his hand and shouted an excited "Woo-Hoo!"
Looking over he tied his horse to the same tree as Kahako, might as well put the boy to the side when being briefed eh?

Upon hearing the Anbu begin his briefing Keiji set his bags aside as he pulled out a scalpel, with it he began nitpicking his teeth, removing the debris from the apple munching. The sheer thought of seeing someone taking one of the sharpest and most delicate of knives in his mouth to simply pick his teeth was nothing but a normality. Better than nothing? Right? Was his only thoughts.

As the Anbu proclaimed his ideas and strategies and showed off the suits they would be wearing he said out loud "Jesus Saito, at least SOMEONE has the right idea here.." as he picked out a large seed stuck in between his teeth. Putting the scalpel aside back into his bag he grabbed and started putting himself into the suit, zipping it up and, then as he awaited someone to help him with the tape he assisted the Anbu with his suit and made sure it was tucked on tightly. Wouldn't want the Team lead to die like a rotten corpse like the his usual Squad Leaders...

As the others proclaimed their ideas and added their suggestions Keiji was over tightening the leather reins on his horse around the tree, as he whistled a happy tune.
Then as Kahako posed the question about his thoughts he casually walked back to the squad, his eyes met with hers.
And with a serious stare he began.
"Yes, well, as has already been stated, we're standing in a rather unique predicament, we have absolutely no idea what this virus or pathogen for that matter. My mind tells me that the answer is in the dead, but maybe that's just because that is my go-to solution." His white eyes faded in hue slightly, making his irises seem all the more invisible than they already were as he continued "I'd like to dig them up if at all possible, perform examinations of each individual, then build a diagram of each of their ailments to find the link between them, then with that established we have a clear line to discover what the pathogen is, what it targets, and not only people-wise but also it's targets in the bodies.." Blinking quickly he shook his head in disagreement with himself.
"But unfortunately that would take a very long time, so I would say that one or two bodies might suffice for now while you others start looking into whatever else you fancy.." He spoke practically mocking the two other party members (Anbu Team leader included)'s ideas and maybe even their intelligence, who's to say?

Giving a slight smile to Kahako, "Shall we go?" he said out loud to make sure everyone else in the squad heard him.

[OOC: Okay, so lets get this moving faster now lol]

They headed into the village, due to their suits they received some strange glances from the villagers. A couple ran off quickly... very quickly... and knocked on a door. The door opened and one of the older looking woman came out. She would have been in her late thirties.

Looking at the group she gestured and the people scattered.

None could be seen, or heard. Indeed one would need particular bloodline capabilities to find them. And all in a matter of moments.

The older woman walked towards them.

Who are you and what do you want? Her tone was agitated, she was unhappy that there were strangers here, and she clearly thought she was being threatening.

She lifted up her cane, held in her right hand like a sword.

If your reasoning isn't good enough we will hurt you.

Looking around Keiji scanned with his eyes as the people scattered into hiding. Tsk, silly people..
He walked up closer to the woman, standing maybe a few feet from her, he turned in an awkward fashion with his body still facing her, but his head looking at Ayumu with tired eyes, granted through the see-through plastic he had in front of him made it a little difficult to actually look at him directly.
Making sure Ayumu and the others could see his eyes he activated his Byakugan and looked at them in silence for a few seconds, which was followed with a statement said in the mellowest of tones and with a serious note to it.
"Oii, ANBU-san.." He pointed with his index finger, outstretched with a relaxed hand at the woman in front of him. "This woman is threatening the Shinobi operation to saving their asses.." His hand turned to clenched fists, the sound of the stretching plastic suit could be heard. "Want me to end her?" his lips turned to a slight smile, he hadn't beaten anyone up in a while, and wouldn't mind the exercise.
He sensed with his abilities the presence of the people around him, their every movement, he carefully concentrated on if they were shaking, if they were scared, afraid, frightened, he wanted to have the edge at every turn if at all possible.

Keiji didn't like being disturbed, especially not when he's on a mission that has the intent to attempt to save these dumb redneck inbred pigs, standing in their way. Granted, he knew full well that they probably aren't informed of the issue, and maybe not even informed that they were there to try to even save them, but Keiji didn't care, he only cared about finding the cause and cure for the epidemic that apparently happened in this village.

He sighed in his own mind because of the trouble that this woman is causing. He just wanted to get done so he could return to his duties in the Hospital as soon as possible.

Of course, no one was exactly thrilled to put on the hideous hazmat suits, but they were necessary. The male MiT, Keiji, at least seemed to think it was "the right idea," though the way he said it somehow made it seem like he was still criticizing something. Despite any objections that may have been made, they all began to suit up, helping one another with sealing the suits with tape. Keiji assisted Ayumu with his tape, which briefly had him thinking perhaps he wasn't such a bad guy after all. Kahako expressed concern about the men of the group. She was right about the danger. It was unfortunate that a team mostly made up of men was sent to the village where mostly men died, but these teams were hastily made. They would have to hope that the hazmat suits would protect them.

Once the plan was explained, Ayumu's squad began to provide their own input one by one. Asuchi had an idea that perhaps the cause had come up the river. That seemed possible, and it was something to keep in mind during their investigation. They would need to see if they were led to the port itself. He also suggested that the surviving villagers might have resistance. It was either that, or the illness was targeted at the ones that died, but considering the variety of the people that died in the three villages, there didn't seem to be a particularly targeted group. Maybe they did have some resistance. It was certainly true that the intel provided by the army was sketchy at best, they would need to find things out on their own.

"Yes, I hope everyone has a headset in case we need to split up," he said briefly before Kahako began providing her input. She had the idea to check livestock, which sounded like a good idea. She suggested that perhaps they were dealing with something different than the other villages. It was too much of a coincident, in Ayumu's opinion, that the three villages were hit at the same time with three different illnesses. Too much, that is, unless it was perpetrated by a person or group that developed three different biological weapons to use. "You may be right about that. It seems likely that this was unnatural, so it's possible whoever started this used three different kinds of attacks. We'll have to see what the other squads come up with to know for sure," he responded to her before she asked Keiji what he thought.

Keiji echoed some of what Ayumu himself had said. The hazard was indeed unknown, and it seemed the best idea was to look at the deceased. Naturally, as a Med-nin, he knew more about the process. He seemed to have a mocking tone as he finished his disagreement with himself. Ayumu could not exactly figure out why, considering he had basically repeated what Ayumu had suggested to begin with, but he had no time to concern himself with the ego of a Med-nin in Training. Regardless, the group moved in to the village to begin their investigation.

As they entered the village, they naturally attracted stares with their odd suits. Some even fled indoors, and one ran to knock on a door. Suddenly, an older looking woman came out shooed the rest away leaving only herself and the shinobi present, or at least she was the only one visible currently. She boldly walked up to the group and lifted up her cane, demanding that they explain their presence. It was a bit comical to see this middle aged woman threatening a group of shinobi, but Ayumu certainly wasn't going to mock her bravery. She clearly didn't know who they were and was attempting to protect the town. Keiji approached the woman, apparently trying to intimidate her, then turned to Ayumu asking if he wanted him to kill her.

'Ugh, what are you doing? We want their cooperation,' Ayumu thought, shaking his head. "Pfft, what are you, some kind of barbarian? We're here to saving lives, not inflict more casualties," he said in response, approaching the woman in a non-threatening manner, but keeping a respectable distance. Of course, it was not as though he was afraid, she was most likely a simple woman, though it was not unheard of to have shinobi her age. The point was, if he showed some respect, perhaps she would be more cooperative. She seemed to be in charge here, for whatever reason, and would probably make decisions for all those present. They needed information, and while they could gather some from the dead, the living had their own information to give. "Besides, I don't know if you could take her," he jabbed, though it was mostly a joke to try to lighten the mood and perhaps gain some favor with the woman. Hopefully Keiji would recognize that and not take it as an insult. He didn't think the boy really intended to kill anybody, but was more attempting to intimidate. It was a valid tactic at times, but this didn't seem the time to Ayumu.

"Miss, we are shinobi from Kumogakure, with Medical-nin among us. We're here to find out what happened and prevent whatever this is from causing more damage, but we need more information. We need your cooperation, so that we can get this sorted out quickly before more people come to harm by this illness," he explained, hoping that the villager's fear would not override their reason. This would be very difficult if the villagers were going to be hostile. Especially if they turned out to be a secret sect of shinobi posing as villagers, or something ridiculous like that. He could only hope the woman was wise enough to see that their presence was needed here.

Asuchi watched with an amused smirk on his face as the woman walked up to them and threatened their group with her cane. Of course, their hazmat suits definitely hid the fact that they were shinobi, so she didn't know what she was up against. But unless she was really good at acting frail, he was sure that any of their group could seriously hurt her before she had a chance to react.

He watched as Keiji walked up to the woman, turning back toward them and activating his Byakugan. So he was a Hyuuga, that was good to have on their team. The Hyuuga's observational capabilities always came in handy.

When he asked if their captain wanted him to kill her however, Asuchi shook his head almost in sync with the ANBU. For a medic nin, he was unusually quick to kill. Then again, their sennin was Kushin... perhaps he was rubbing off on the branch.

Asuchi's smirk returned at Ayumu's joke, and then he listened as Ayumu explained their purpose for being in their village. Their captain seemed to be handling the diplomacy part of this mission well enough. Asuchi nearly asked that they needed to see their livestock and corpses, but he felt it would be better for that to wait until the woman was less hostile. So, he simply stood and waited, looking around, seeing if anything interesting in the village caught his eye that could be a hint of what happened here.

If Kahako had been a cat and Keiji’s …input… had been a human hand. She would have very hissed as his words rubbed her the wrong way. Goose bumps trailed down her arm under the warm hazmat. No matter how she looked at it, it was as if he saw everyone who wasn’t in the medical field as below them in this situation. However, the last thing the group needed was one mednin having an attitude problem to another member. Despite the connotation of the conversation, she gave a small smile and waited for Ayumu to begin walking. She would have her small victories, even if no one else knew what they were. Falling in step behind their squad captain, she made the quick trail toward town.

Just as she had expected, the people of the town welcomed them with apprehension and fear. Hazmat suits were quite terrifying if you didn’t know what they were. Everyone had been gone from the streets when they finally reached the thicker part of the village.

What did surprise her, however, was the threatening manner in which they were greeted. The committee of one wasn’t very welcoming to their crew. Immediately before anyone else could open their mouth, any form of cooperation between the villagers went from bad to worse. “Keiji-san!” Kahako admonished when he oh so politely ‘suggested’ killing the old woman before them. This was also the same time that Ayumu spoke in his usual joking way, so her words were lost to the wind.

As Ayumu quickly tried to fix the already botched up introduction, Kahako looked at the windows and entryways around them. She caught the glimpse of two small eyes peering out of a window before the being pulled away and the curtains further drawn. Her group was not welcome here.

“Please, Obaa-san.” She said bowing once Ayumu was finished speaking. “I promised you our group means no harm upon your village. All we wish to accomplish is to find out who or what is responsible for your recent losses, and ensure it doesn’t happen again.” She gave a quick glance to Keiji, wondering (a bit too venomously if anyone were able to see into her mind) if his conversational skills would ever be as good as his medical ones.

[OCC- apologies, I don’t get much time to post with work. I’ll try to keep my posts within 2 days after you post Kushin. Also, apologies to you too Keiji. Kahako… just does not like your character right now. xD

The reaction that came from the group behind him wasn't surprising, he simply lowered his hands, relaxed, and breathed out in a sigh, and with an annoyed grunt he replied to Ayumu with a "Fine, do what you want." He looked with a glance around the buildings as he turned around, scanning for the townsfolk if any were to look up, and they'd look at him, they'd see his white blank eyes with the byakugan still active staring back at them. He didn't want to risk any surprises in the act of diplomacy.
As Kahako and Ayumu talked to the woman Keiji walked up behind the group, and glanced to the side, then with a glance his eyes met with Kahako after she had said her words to the lady, he looked at her with an annoyed glance, what no one there knew what he had been through, well, maybe the Anbu, if he had read his personal files, but with the way he reacted it seemed not to be the case.

He looked away from Kahako's venomous eyes not wanting to let her look into his eyes again for the time being. Not wanting to let his emotions run rampant like so many other times he has learned to distance himself from his surroundings, as of the latest years every single mission Keiji has been out on, be it with teammates of one or the other sort all died, the risks out on the country side of the country is rising, and it's showing. The mere thought of being on a mission with Kahako frightened him, she was a fellow Med-nin in training, a close friend, or at least that's how he saw her as, granted they hadn't hanged out in a long time, but he feared and in a sense expected shit to happen, he wanted to get this mission done, and over with, he didn't want to risk losing more people, no more Shinobi had to die on his record, his goal hadn't been to ensure the other's survival lately it was never 'bring back your teammates' or 'ensure survival of Cloud Shinobi' Because above it all, he had other mission goals, and his lack of abilities in assisting his teammates has resulted in his every footstep, his every tread in the mud, the gravel, was riled with death, one with decent enough smelling abilities might even be able to smell it off of him, he reeked of it, and it wasn't like he asked for it, he merely lacked the skills or abilities to assist everyone, or to ensure more than his own survival.

He looked across the small village and in his mind he asked himself as he clenched his fists "Why do I keep going?"

Keiji's reaction was interesting despite his byakugan being activated. When he'd have looked at all the people alive in the village one would have thought that pure out and out fear might have actually been a logical reaction. All of their chakra lines were burning fiercely, as though there was some build up of chakra built up over the years which had finally been activated and allowed to do more than simply keep the body alive. The woman before him had a massive chakra buildup, and if someone in Cloud had this they would have every right to treat them like they would a veteran Jounin. However she was untrained... and this could make her more dangerous as she was not used to controlling the abilities inside her.

In effect... she would beat the living shit out of Keiji.

And that was exactly what she did as soon as Ayumu had given him a jibe.

Before he would have had any time to react in the way he might have liked the walking stick was by his cheek. He swiveled and dodged that blow but as he tried to set his feet in a Hyuuga technique to block everything that stick had slammed into his leg with enough force to spin him, and then as his direct vision would have been looking skyward a foot slammed into his face planting him into the ground. Her moves were unfocused, they were not clean, she did not know martial arts. But her speed and strength more than made up for it.

Stepping backwards she was sweating, tired from only a couple of moves. Her chakra reduced significantly.

But the other villagers were gathering now... and each of them were just as dangerous as they held tools normally used for other purposes.

Ayumu attempted at this point to placate the woman, explaining where they were from and asking for co-operation.

Tell that one to keep his distance. How can we trust you are here to do any good? We've been left to fend for ourselves.

[OOC: Sorry, I'm ignoring your last post keiji because you didn't give the villagers any time to react, and because of their reaction I'm fairly certain that post wouldn't happen]

With his face down in the mud below he coughed and wheezed for a second after which he had regained his consciousness entirely.
Pushing himself up he quickly got up on his feet, and as he wiped the mud off of his cheek he said with a growing grin on his lips, "Well I'll be, the people here got a trick up their sleeve.." staring at the woman with challenging eyes he said out loud to ensure everyone heard it "They got some sort of inept chakra abilities, a wonder this hadn't been noticed up until now.." he scuffed with a hint of respect towards the woman as well as the villagers.

His stance shifted, his eyes shifted to his side for a second to look upon the villagers to ensure they were witnessing his movements.
He bowed, deeply and with respect, to much of his own surprise his evaluation of the situation was wrong, and he needed a different approach.
"I seem to have underestimated the strengths of this village maddam, I humbly ask you for your forgiveness." After which, while facing the ground he trotted backwards into among the rest of the group.
"I leave you in capable hands of discussions" He said as his right hand presented Ayumu.

When he had reached behind the group sufficiently enough to not be the center of attention he stood up, quickly followed up with him sitting down with his knees pointing up, and a hunched back. His suit facing the woman, and his eyes resting upon the rest of the villagers, clenching his fists, and concentrating chakra to them, readying himself if anything were to happen from their side.

Regretfully, to his own dismay this situation wasn't as he had hoped, he wanted the mission to be over as quick as possible, but alas the mission could not be completed through the way of fear, and instead they need diplomacy, granted he had done so before successfully, but through the years since his approach had taken a more sinister turn. In his thoughts he sighed to himself. He just wanted to avoid complications. What would his next move be, unexpected as usual he anticipated.

Ayumu had made that jab fully in jest, though the possibility of the woman being a shinobi had actually crossed his mind. The way she took down Keiji surprised him all the same. Of course, his first instinct was to prepare to defend Keiji, his hand made the slightest most subtle motion towards the hilt of his sword, but he stopped himself as he observed the old woman. She did not have the intent to kill him outright, and if she was capable of it, she had not put enough force into the attack to seriously injure Keiji. In fact, she already looked tired from the act, clearly not used to utilizing her chakra so. Ayumu stayed his hand and remained calm, continuing on with his attempt at diplomacy. Keiji was a shinobi, and seemingly a tough one at that, he could take the hit. Kahako as well expressed her assurance that the group was there to aid the villagers. Fortunately, the woman seemed willing to talk to Ayumu and did not immediately floor him. He sighed with a bit of relief at that.

Keiji managed to stand back up and warned the rest of the group that it was not only the old woman that had such aptitude for chakra. 'Interesting... who are these people? Could their chakra capacity have anything to do with the illness, or why they survived while the others didn't?' Ayumu wondered. He filed that bit of information away for now. Keiji bowed to show respect and asked for forgiveness. Ayumu didn't know if the woman would be amiable to his apology, but perhaps it would improve her view on the group as a whole slightly. He watched as he then marched behind the group and sat down quietly. From back there he could still keep his Byakugan eyes on the group to ensure nobody was up to anything. It was always fortunate to have a holder of the Byakugan on the team.

"He'll behave, I promise," Ayumu responded, knowing that Keiji would know now that the threat of violence wasn't going to work here. In a way, he was helping. It was like a good ANBU, bad ANBU routine and so far it seemed to be working. "The ones who came here before were but soldiers, they had no idea what was happening here and were afraid. They wanted to get out as soon as possible. The best they could hope to do was gather information for us. We're here with some of the finest medical professionals the country has to offer. Not only that, but they know have a personal stake in this too. It's possible that this won't end here, other villages have been hit by something similar too, and we don't know how far this will spread. We need to get this under control now, and we won't be leaving until it's safe again," he explained, hoping that she would hear the sincerity in his voice. The shinobi of Kumogakure were different than those that had come before. They were here to perform a duty, and each of them took it seriously.

"Now, if you are willing to help... I know it's difficult, but it's important that our Med-nins take a look at some of the dead, to try to deduce what happened to them. I assure you, they will treat your loved ones with the utmost respect," he said, wondering if any of them would be willing to let their deceased be inspected. It was obviously wise for them to cooperate, but grief could distort one's view of what's wise. These were formed friends and family, and Ayumu was sure they would prefer to leave them to rest in peace. "I would also like to have one of our Med-nin check up on some of you, to see if we can find out why you weren't affected, and I would ask more questions if you're open to them," he continued, wondering if the woman would be willing to help. He figured, as the leader of the group, if she were to decide to help them, at least some of the others would follow her lead.

Well… the woman seemed to be considerably talented at acting frail, among other things.

Asuchi watched as Keiji was spun around and then kicked in the face, falling to the ground. Before he even had a chance to think, Asuchi’s instincts and training kicked in. His leg muscles tensed up, ready to spring into action. He began to adopt his combat stance. He ceased suppressing his bloodline effects, his outline beginning to flutter and shift as the very fabric of reality was warped by his presence.

Further observation of the woman revealed that she was not trained, despite her actions indicating an untapped power. They were not even filled with malice; if she wanted to hurt Keiji, it seemed now that she could have. But she simply kicked him over, nothing he couldn’t brush off. They didn’t seem to intend any lasting harm.

Asuchi relaxed, suppressing his bloodline once again as the outline of his figure reformed and solidified. The time from his initial reaction, to his observation and subsequent calming was all within a second. Hopefully none of the villagers had noticed the actions, that could set off a bad chain reaction. But, he was contained in this big bulky suit. Subtle movements shouldn’t be apparent.

He listened as Keiji warned of their latent chakra, that was certainly odd. If everyone here possessed such power, perhaps that was why they were still alive. Although it did call into question the effectiveness of their Academy scouts. If all these people were possible shinobi candidates, why were they not currently his brothers and sisters in arms? Asuchi had a thought. ”Perhaps they’ve recently gained the chakra somehow, something to do with this whole situation. It seems hard for me to believe that our Academy scouts completely missed this village,” he mentioned.

Their leader seemed to be willing to speak to Ayumu, so Asuchi didn’t dare intervene between the two. He really wanted to speak to some of them, ask if anything suspicious had happened shortly before the illness. He wasn’t a medical shinobi, but he was part of the Intelligence Service. If there’s one thing he knew how to do, it was gather information. But, Ayumu mentioned to the woman that there would be more questions if they chose to cooperate, so Asuchi knew he would have his chance then. He decided not to press his luck right now.

Instead, he focused on keeping his eye on the group of villagers currently approaching them, holding makeshift weapons. The diplomatic route was still their best option, but if all hell broke loose, Asuchi wanted to be prepared and able to react.

Messenger Animal Npc entering topic

Lirin was on her way back to Kumogakure after doing her delivery and she just so happens to be passing through Ijouhassei Village. She has been through this village many times, but this time something felt off. Her animal instincts told her, ‘danger! Get out of here.’ But her curiosity got the better of her. She looks around and then sees a few people in hazmat suits. The village must be in more trouble than she thought. She hopes what even was going on did not affect animals. She continued to get closer till she stood next to one of the suited people. They would most-likely recognize her as an official cloud animal messenger. At the very least they should be able to tell that she is a member of cloud due to the Kumo insignia on her collar.

So the braided boy had learned that they weren't to be messed with. The woman was then addressed again by who she now assumed to be the leader of the group. She made a small hand gesture to the survivors grouping together behind her, and they stopped moving. Though anger still etched their features they were now still. Yet he had a request which went against their beliefs, and also against their desire.

We buried our dead after it happened. We made the conscious decision as a whole to move on from the incident and are still in mourning. She looked sincerely into Ayumu's eyes How can you ask us for our dead in this moment? Her voice quietened as she realized the other villagers might have overheard and may act of their own accord We're just a peaceful village. We didn't ask for judgement to be placed on us.

The words from Asuchi reached her and she looked quizically at him What do you mean by chakra?

Kahako listened to the conversation going on between Ayumu and the old lady, choosing for a time to stay silent as he tried to negotiate with the villagers. It was during this time that she noticed the wolf-dog approaching their group. Immediately knowing what the creature was, she smiled and waved silently at it to inform the animal that she did know who she or he was. It was then that the old lady questioned Asuchi’s statement. Kahako decided that it was here she would interject.

“Obaa-san, chakra is what gives shinobi their power. Your village people seem to have an abundance of it, which is rather uncommon.” She said calmly, choosing her words carefully to ensure that she didn’t anger anyone. She realized the gravity of the situation. Should the villagers decide that the hazmat outsiders were no longer welcome, their mission would no longer be about research on a potential bioterrorist threat. What Ayumu’s team had in years of experience and skill, the villagers matched in sheer numbers. This suddenly became a very dangerous situation. She lowered her voice equally with the old lady’s, trying to keep the conversation between the group and her. “You and your villagers have the right to mourn your dead, Obaa-san, but what about the rest of your living? Whatever killed your families could… transform. It could come back and take the rest of you. That is why we are here.” She looked at the ground. She couldn’t begin to understand the sorrow this older woman was going through, but the risk was too great to be denied the ability find out what happened. “We cannot bring back the dead, but we can at least learn from them.

“Maybe we can come to an agreement,” she said now turning to Ayumu. “Let us examine the living first, Obaa-san. If we can find our answers with normal check-ups with a few people here, then we will not touch your dead at all.” She looked at the old lady again. “Please understand that we want to make sure this doesn’t happen ever again. We can learn from the dead sometimes more than we can from the living. But I would be willing to make it a last resort if everyone here agrees to it.”

Ayumu expected the reluctance to give up their dead for study, as the dead were still their family and friends even if they had stopped moving and were in the ground now. He couldn't say that he would feel differently, though he liked to think he would let go of his feelings for the sake of everyone's safety. As she asked him how he could ask such a thing, he could see the grief and pain still lingering in her eyes. He pitied them, they were just living their simple lives, not trying to live beyond their means. There was no great avarice that made them deserve such a fate. It was just a random act, as far as anybody could tell. Behind him, Asuchi spoke to the group, suggesting that the chakra might have been recently gained. This caused Ayumu to wonder at the situation, chakra was not generally something that just randomly popped up at any old age. You usually had some sort of indication early on. It was an interesting thought. More attention was brought to the thought as the woman asked what he meant by chakra.

Kahako was quick to answer, giving an adequate answer for the most part, unless they had further questions. It was interesting that she would ask, however. They had this power, and they didn't even know what chakra was? Did they not wonder how they were able to move with such speed and strength? Perhaps it was really something they had come into just recently, or he supposed it was also possible that they had just gone on for so long without showcasing it to someone who knew what it was. It was something out of the ordinary, however, and definitely deserved attention. Kahako went on to warn the woman of the dangers that persisted even now, and also pleaded with her to allow them to study the dead. Then, she offered to simply study the living first and then the dead if that did not suffice. This was not very efficient, as they were trying to quickly find out what had caused this before it could potentially do more damage, but if it was the only way they would cooperate, they would have to take it.

"As Kahako said, there's always the chance that whatever it was could mutate and adapt to further the destruction it's already caused. We're not trying to scare you, it's just that it is a possibility, and time is of the essence. There's no way to know if we can afford to take this slowly... but if that is the only way you can accept it, we will do as Kahako has offered," he said, still hoping to be able to have one of the Med-nin study the dead. Kahako was right to give them the option, if it was the only way, but he hoped they would cooperate fully. They could save time by doing both at once, and they didn't know which would yield the information they were looking for. Maybe neither would, and all the better to get it crossed off the list so they could investigate other things. Regardless, something was still bugging him.

"Either way, I would like to ask you: do all of these people have abilities such as yours, and have they always? Or is this something new," he asked. He hoped, since the word chakra had peaked her interest, that she would be open to this line of questioning to find out more about it herself. There was the possibility that their chakra abilities were connected to the disaster. Possibilities spun in Ayumu's head. Had it protected the ones that remained? Was there a possibility that it was granted to them as a side-effect of the illness? Could it have even been the actual intended purpose, and this a twisted experiment? All just possibilities. They wouldn't know until they had more information.

A small smirk crossed Asuchi's lips as the woman asked her question. He even had an answer all prepared!

“It all started when a group of ninja set themselves on fire for no reason. Then a naked man cut off his own junk and grew red hair all over his chest. Then the three ninja who had somehow survived their third degree burns decided to take part in the Olympics, forcing Pepsi to redesign their company logo. This caused the naked man to shave his chest and get a tattoo. And that is how we discovered chakra.”

Well... Kahako beat him to it. She gave a simple, basic answer, but it would be adequate for what they needed to know right now. If they had further questions, they could ask later. And hers was an actual answer, not an obscure reference. Perhaps he'd get his moment to shine later.

He noticed the messenger dog on the outskirts of their group. The Kumo insignia gave it away as one of their own. No doubt there for them to report back what they'd learned. He felt its arrival a bit premature, however. They had just gotten here; they hadn't learned much of anything yet, only this sudden abundance of chakra. Much more info was needed before they could report back anything of use. At least an idea of what caused this, as well as what exactly happened here. The initial intel provided to them was definitely lackluster. Asuchi hoped for his branch's sake that it was the army that did most of the gathering, and none of the Intelligence Service.

Kahako was pursuing the medical angle, and Ayumu was questioning the woman about their chakra. Both solid leads, both necessary to any further info to be gained from this mission. It would do no good for him to add his own questions on either of the subjects. He was outclassed on the medical end; he knew anatomy and that was it, nothing compared to a mednin. And there weren't really any more questions to be asked about the chakra, at least not that he could think of. They needed to know when the villagers received such power before they could focus their questioning in more. Asuchi mulled over the situation in his head for a second. What did they really need to know? He decided to start simple. After all, it was an obvious question but one that for some reason hadn't been asked yet.

”You mentioned 'it', an 'incident' and 'judgement'. Are you referring simply to the deaths or did something happen to cause them?”
