Loathsome was the desert, at least towards those who came ill prepared to venture into its near endless bounds of sand. Three days now Kaen had been tracking him. The target had been without food, water or sleep for three days now. Kaen was in no hurry, he had the time and resources for the long haul. Granted his target wasn't anticipating getting separated from his caravan, running for his life. Death's hungry maw sought him out at every turn, whether it was the arid sun scorching him to the bone, or Kaen's ever approaching aura, this man knew his time was near. In the end, there could only be one.
It was 4 days ago that Kaen had been tasked with a simple mission to track, interrogate and "dispose" of the evidence. It was a simple matter really, the group he was tasked with tracking made it no secret as to their whereabouts. Their caravan wagon's tracks were wide and deep in the sand. The winter seasons made it that much easier to track as there was little wind to wash away the tracks. They had taken refuge in an old abandoned outpost. Kaen had been here before... They say ignorance is bliss, perhaps it was better this way that they never saw him coming. One by one he would wake them, place them under his willful and overpowering genjutsu to trap them in his mind. There they could run, kick, scream and inevitably give in to the endless torture and release to him the information Kaen sought. Then, not unlike a predator that toyed with his meal, Kaen would put them out of their miserable excuse of a life. It was quick, clean, but certainly not painless. Though it never feels good to have your body cooked from the inside out. But the age old cliché of the one that got away clung heavy to this story. Seems one had the whimsical idea to take a piss shortly before Kaen's arrival, giving him the metaphorical "heads up" and gave Kaen the slip. Unfortunately for him, he was scared and made far to much noise on his way out, tipping off his escape.
In any case... three days was more than enough time to sate his sinister palate. Kaen had grown tired of this cat and mouse game and decided it was time to end it. He didn't wait till nightfall, there was no point, his prey was already weak, feeble and scared out of his wits. A well placed kunai disabled his right leg, blood would exude out of the newly created wound and soak hastily into the arid sands like water to a sponge. The man lay helpless, not even bothering to crawl away, he knew he was done fore. Please, wait, wait! Can I just ask you a question before you kill me? He was barely able to stammer his words, as Kaen was already upon him. Kaen would look down at the man and smile, bearing his razor sharp teeth. "You just did..." --WHOOSH-- Kaen unleashed a scorching hot burst from his open maw, the flames incinerated the man into a pile of ashes. A gentle breeze would catch a pocket full of ash and it would swirl away, literal dust in the wind.
