Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Portrait of the Sennin, SE 2, by Uchiha Sei of Kumogakure

Basic Information said:
Age: 55
Gender: Male
Rank: Sennin of the Main Branch, former Vice Commander of the ANBU

General Appearance said:
Masao himself tends to wear well-fitting, but ultimately forgettable clothing composed of slacks, boots, a dress shirt and optional greatcoat if the weather becomes cold. As is the latest fashion of the Capital, he also sports a tricorne hat when the weather is disagreeable. His graying, black-blonde hair is now a bit longer and is usually tied off in back. Distinguishing marks on his torso include the basic tattoo of Kumo's ANBU located over his heart, the emblem of his former unit on his right bicep (a wolf's head within a triangle within a circle), and the crest of his family over his back (two peacocks engaged in combat surrounded by the family motto). Innumerable scars from wounds and emergency surgeries mark most of his torso

Personality said:
Once known as an easygoing joker with a penchant for outlandish slapstick as well as a magnet for trouble, decades of emotional strain from his experiences in the ANBU have permanently changed his personality. He is, as one might say, a hateful creature, given to quick judgments of character and merit and prone to cold anger. Alluring and charming to everyone he meets, he is also capable of astounding savagery in the same breath. one thing that cannot be questioned, however, is his loyalty to his wife the Grand Commander, and the Raikage Shin.

History said:
The Takaki clan is one of Kumo's notable families, consistently producing talented and loyal shinobi for the service to the village and country, generation after generation. They do not possess a recognized kekkei genkai, or bloodline trait. Rather, they are known for their eclectic and diverse collection of prodigies in various fields who fill in crucial gaps in Kumo's armamentarium of shinobi. Members of the family have included prominent med-nins, famous ANBU, wondrous musicians, and quadruple-espionage-capable spies. Some male members of the family are even married to the daughters of clans possessing bloodline abilities, incorporating their traits into the genetic mix. To this day, no member of the clan has ever deliberately gone missing, and the elders of the clan seek to keep it that way. For their loyal service, the family enjoys a solidly upper-middle-class lifestyle and is a player in village politics. Like many others, he entered the academy and graduated to genin-hood, although not without some difficulty.

Although many genin tasks tend to be idyllic chores such as tending gardens, playing with children, or walking pets, Masao and his two closest genin teammates were instead subjected to missions of stunning brutality in which they killed a great number of individuals in the line of duty and sustained a number of wounds themselves. It was during this time that Masao's natural ability as a leader and strategist surfaced, consistently leading his teammates to victory even under the direst circumstances. Bleeding together with best friends Dyu Reikon and Unasi Kyoto, along with a stint in prison with Dyu, forged a bond between the three thought to be unbreakable, until tragedy struck.

Soon after all three were promoted to Chuunin, Dyu Reikon was killed in an inexplicable attempt to go missing, and Unasi Kyoto mysteriously disappeared on a mission and is now presumed to be dead or missing. Carrying a self-imposed burden of guilt for these deaths (he refuses to believe Kyoto is missing), Masao would have easily floundered into apathy like many other shinobi who lose too many close friends in battle... If not for his growing friendships with Satou Rin and Kimura Rei, and his expanding role as a sensei and mentor for the next generation of shinobi.

He was first noticed by then-Captain Santaru Ryuuto during an assassination missions, and offered an opportunity to train in the ranks of the Ansatsu Tokushu Senjutsu Butai. From there, he underwent a series of brutal tests of combat ability and mental toughness, which he passed with minimal psychic damage. His steady mission and job performance led to a promotion to sergeant and he distinguished himself in the liberation of the Aburame Complex during the Demon Wars that hit Kumo at the end of the century. In one particular engagement, he was cited for rallying his squad to victory after its Captain was incapacitated during the fight, as well as for saving the same Captain's life by dragging him away to safety under heavy fire. Soon afterwards, he was promoted to First Lieutenant along with his childhood friend Santaru Rin, with assignment to the Internal Affairs division.

His later accomplishments included the training and induction of the first Catgirl, Terora Arakatsu, into the ANBU, as well as the retrieval of agent Kimura Rei from enemy territory, which led to the beginnings of the Kagoshiman peace accords. In addition, he and Santaru Rin were the two main investigators in the uncovering of the October Plot, which fundamentally changed the composition of the ANBU forever, and resulted in his promotion to High Captain and chief of the IA division.

Any history of Masao is incomplete without a section concerning Santaru Rin. Their relationship and the turmoil centered around it are among the most famous stories of the last age of Kumo, and while much of it has been exaggerated or omitted through the various retellings, the basic facts are well documented in history, from the date of their initial meeting at a shrine of Raiden to the proceedings of their battles together during the Demon Wars to the results of their cataclysmic duels afterwards, even after their marriage at the end of the era of Shinbatsu's reign. What is left to historical imagination are the details of their everyday interactions; the unspoken nuances, the longing glances, the resentments after their many infidelities against each other, and the moments of shared clouds and rain that no tome can fully document.

By age 30, Masao was a broken man. Nearly a decade of service to the village had rendered him nearly inoperable: a litany of scars on his body, emergency surgeries too numerous to count, and joints without a shred of remaining cartilage - the inevitable fate of all who survive for long enough in the ANBU. Adding to that were the increasing tensions between Santaru Rin, his wife and superior, and Shinbatsu, the God-Raikage that Rin and he had helped install into power nearly a decade ago. Faced with the prospect of instigating a civil conflict that they could not win, Rin and Masao finally married, retired, and exiled themselves to the little town of Inaba, where for the next sixteen years they lived together, raising two children who became shinobi themselves.

Although the village itself was peaceful in their absence, the ANBU as an organization started to crumble from within. Bereft of strong leadership, a growing tolerance of corruption and decadence spread like a plague and resulted in several gross security breaches that nearly ended the Immortal Raikage Kiyo's life. Her successor, and Masao's old friend, Hayata Shin was in grave danger from the moment he assumed office. It was at this point when the old Sennin Akira Saito requested of Masao to revive the struggling organization to ensure the village's continued safety. After some urging, he and Rin agreed to resume their old roles, knowing that this time their second retirement would likely be in the afterlife.

Things immediately went to hell. Years of infighting and a lack of central leadership among the nobility of Lightning Country had already led to a volatile political situation, and the country soon fell into open civil war due to the actions of a missing nin revealed to be Hayata Shin's uncle: Hayata Makoro. His quest for vengeance nearly destroyed the country and almost meant the death of Shin, but timely intervention with Masao's help saved the day and destroyed the threat posed by the greatest rogue nin in Kumo history.

In the aftermath of the Makoro incident, Masao was appointed Main Branch Sennin by Shin in the interest of strengthening Kumo's ties to the Lightning Country bakufuu and its new Shogun as well as reforming a flagging branch that had been neglected until now.

Core Ability said:
Opportunist

Sneak Attack - Passive (3 points)
Restriction- C Rank and up
Many honor-bound fighters will make sure that their opponent is ready and aware before beginning a fight. Not so with the Opportunist. A turned back is an open target for them, a chance they don’t dare pass up.
Effect: All the user's attacks have a 10% chance of being a Sneak Attack. All Sneak attacks gain +1 Critical and deal x2.5 damage upon a Critical hit; this does not stack with other critical damage modifiers.

Shadow Step - Passive (2 points)
Embracing the shadows, opportunists are adept in the art of covert fighting. They remain hidden from their victims until the moment they strike and even then leave their victims wondering where the attacker came from...and where they went.
Effect: The user has a 30% chance at remaining in Stealth after performing a Sneak Attack. Once per round, the user may make a Sneak Attack without being dropped out of Stealth; this may only be done three times per battle.

Counterattack - Passive (3 points)
Restriction- B Rank and up
Whenever an enemy misses a swing of the sword or a thrust of the fist, they overextend slightly and leave an opening. In this opening is the chance to strike back and change the course of battle.
Effect: Whenever the opponent misses a melee attack on the user (melee taijutsu included; they may only counter once per jutsu), the user may counterattack for their their current equipped weapon dealing Basic Strike Damage at no cost. This has no limit.

Quick Step - Boost (1 point) x 2
Restriction- Can be purchased up to three times
Opportunists have mastered the art of precision attacking, knowing just when and how to catch the opponent off-guard with their attacks. It is very difficult into tricking one with your movements, masters as they are in the art of it already.
Effect: +1 accuracy

Crippling Strike - Dependent Special Move (3 points)
Don't turn your back on an Opportunist. They'll only take advantage of it and hit you hard. Very hard. They don't care about fighting fair, and this technique is one of their most surprising to be caught in.
Effect: While in Stealth, the user may allow a Taijutsu to bypass Damage Reduction and Barriers. If performed against a clone, this has a 60% chance at dispelling the clone. This may only be done once per round.

Slippery Mind - Passive (3 points)
As used to their own tricks as they are, it's very difficult to fool an Opportunist with other tricks and illusions. So, too, is it more difficult to put them under Genjutsu than the average ninja.
Effect: +2 to Genjutsu Save and awareness rolls.

Counter Disarm - Passive (2 points)
Restriction- C Rank and up
In close combat, whenever a mistake is made, there is the opening to disarm an enemy of their weapon, or cripple an unarmed opponent. That is something an Opportunist knows how best to take advantage of.
Effect: Whenever an opponent misses a melee attack (melee taijutsu included; all hits must miss for one disarm attempt per jutsu, not one disarm attempt per missed hit), the user may attempt to disarm them at -1 melee accuracy. On a full hit, the user grabs the weapon, otherwise the weapon is flung away. If the enemy is unarmed, the user can attempt to cripple their arms or hands at -4 accuracy; if successful, it will increase the called shot rank by one. This penalty does not stack. This may only be done once per round.

Flash Counter - Jutsu (1 point, 1 to rank up)
Restriction- A-Rank and Up
This jutsu is the ultimate counterattack; defensive and offensive at the same time, leaving no openings and at the same time exploiting all of the enemy’s openings. In the blink of an eye, the user can evade any attack and appear behind the enemy, attacking immediately with utter impunity.
Rank 2: The user automatically dodges the next attack directed at them and appears behind the attacker. The user may then strike with 6 Basic Strikes or attack with any E-C Taijutsu for 1 AP less. These attacks count as sneak attacks, and cannot be countered, detected, or auto-dodged.

Cost: 2,500 Cp; 2.5 Ap

Notes:
- This may be used Reactionary.
- This may only be used once a round.

tac-15-crossbow_zpsfcc005c6.jpg
Santaru-Taji ST-15 series Repeating Crossbolter, 5.56mm caliber; Subtype: Ranged; Damage Type: Piercing
Developed under the guidance of ANBU Sennin and eventual Raikage Santaru Ryuuto, and funded by the Taji Arms Company, the ST-15 was developed from the ground-up to improve the ranged combat capability of the Kumogakure ANBU. A modular design, it is designed to be fitted with numerous accessories tailored to different types of combat situations, and easily repaired if necessary. It uses the smaller 5.56mm caliber quarrel rather than the Imperial Army's standard 7.62mm caliber quarrel, and achieves higher velocities and better terminal ballistics at the expense of some barrier penetration ability.

+2 accuracy, -10% damage
+5% chance for called shots
Augments: Silencer, Barrage, Siege

Hayata-Takaki Bolters; Subtype: Ranged, Damage Type: Piercing
This pair of ornately-engraved hand-bolters was originally created by famed Tenouzan gunsmith Nemoto-Diaz de Villagran Bentenmaru and somehow made their way into the hands of rogue-nin Hayata Makoro, who used them in his attempt to exact revenge on his nephew, the Raikage Hayata Shin. After Makoro's defeat at the Torre Celeste of Kumogakure, the bolters were given to Takaki Masao as a present by Shin. A matching set, these specimens are over a hundred years old and are among the first types of crossbolters to feature a magazine well for quarrels. In typical antique Tenouzan fashion, their craftsmanship and resulting accuracy is beyond compare.

+2 Accuracy, -10% damage
+5% chance for called shots
Augments: Barrage, Crippler, Quick Switch

pistolcrossbow_zps908a5b5b.jpg
Gateru M1911A3 Delta Elite series Handbolter, 10mm caliber; Subtype: Ranged; Damage Type: Piercing
Developed by the famous Gateru weapons design house, the M1911A3 is the latest iteration of the famous M1911 series of hand-crossbolters originally produced by the company's founder. Although changes in materials and improvements in ergonomics differentiate the A3 from its predecessors, its core design remains essentially the same as the base model of over a hundred years ago, and for a simple reason: it works. The "Delta Elite" series is an even more reinforced version of the A3, and uses the powerful 10mm caliber quarrel, originally designed for the hunting of large game.

-1 Accuracy, +5% Damage
Naturally Inflicts Bleeding
Augments: Blood Rack, Lucky Strike

pattern1796_zpse0a0848f.jpg
Lightning Imperial Army Pattern 1796 Heavy Cavalry Sword; Subtype: Melee, Damage Type: Piercing
Issued to Imperial Army Dragoons and Cataphracts, the weapon is described as 'heavy and ill balanced', 'crude and mass produced', a 'brutal blade that will hammer through lighter swords and finer techniques', 'the mere weight of which can crush a man's skull'. Hence, it is favored by Takaki Masao, who carried one during the pivotal battles of the Demon Invasion more than twenty years ago. The original was lost in an explosion in Port Cirrus, but he has managed to secure a replacement.

-2 Accuracy, +10% Damage
Naturally Inflicts Bleeding
Augments: Assault, Unloving

The Brush; Subtype: Melee, Damage Type: Piercing
Have you been a bad shinobi today? Refuse to follow orders? Fail a mission? Disrespect the Raikage? Then Masao wants to have a word with you. That's right, sit in the chair. Make sure you've shampooed and if possible, used conditioner. Don't worry, it'll be over soon.

+2 Accuracy, -10% Damage
Augments: Wide Edge, Daze, Fata Morgana
