Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Mouko vs Battle Doll #2

While Mouko was dumbfounded with how to approach the opponent this is where the doll was going to make things even more complicated for him. Slapping its hands against its side panels a small part of its fixture slid open propelling out a small scroll. Swinging the scrolls open and unravelling them as what seemed like dozens of small bursts of smoke emerged. Falling out from the smoke were what seemed to be small projectiles that were not aimed at Mouku. Crashing down towards the ground they landed against the ground slightly bouncing before settling down in their positions. A closer inspection of these items that had fallen from the scroll would show that they were actually Makibishi spikes. Seeing that Mouko would employ all kinds of intricate methods in order to dodge attacks the battle doll would further make this task more challenging. As Mouko openly stated for the doll to hear that he had no method of intercepting projectiles which meant he did not have any weapons he could use for deflection either if he choose to just stand there and block.

“You made the mistake of openly telling your opponent you cannot handle the situation. So I will only make things worse for you. Think up something quickly, or else this is going to get ugly for you.”
This time with both hands the doll was going for a similar attack much like he did before. The first attack was a heavily concentrated volley of projectiles aimed entirely for his body. The second volley of projectiles however were released in a more wide spread arc. They were tossed to go head behind Mouko. This was done because while there are a great deal of Makibishi spikes in front, to the left, and to the right of him. There were far less of them the further back he went. In case he decided to fall back to avoid the projectiles there would be more waiting for him.

Re: Testing...Testing..Is This Thing On? [Open]

She had done a critical error which in most situations had this been a life or death one would have gotten her killed or if lucky seriously wounded. ‘Think! You have died once already now! Don’t mess up twice!’ she scolded herself as she looked at the oncoming doll. Two ideas played out in her mind while she simultaneously watched the doll close the space between them. The first one was that she would swat away its arm as it threw the punch by using her right hand to diverge the punch away from her body towards her right so the dolls left side and then follow up with a palm punch to the shoulder which, if done right should offset the doll’s balance and maybe even knock it over if she hit hard enough. The second idea was to wait for it to throw the punch at her and then when there was sufficient space for her to spring into action she would grab onto the dolls wrist with her right hand and help it through the motion, creating an opening from which she could attack with her left hand. If the move worked it would also expose its right side to further attacks.

Time came for her to pick and she went with the latter. The punch came in the form of an upwards arch fist balled punch. Struggling to keep her cool, Setsuko lurched out with her right hand aiming for the first and wrist of the hand that had been thrown out at her. Her fingers quickly curled around and gripped the wrist like a vice as her arm followed the dolls motion causing it to miss its target and continue onwards up and to the side of her allowing her to attack with her left hand that had from the second her hand grabbed onto the wrist begun to rise and was now coming up in the form of a palm punch. The palm punch would use the heel of the hand to land a punch towards the exposed ‘ribs’ of the doll. The punch would have, have the doll been a person, most likely bruised or even broken one or two ribs.

Re: Testing...Testing..Is This Thing On? [Open]

*Yes! The- ...* Sazawari felt the distinguishable sensation of the steel edge striking the mark, and a wave of success and hasty thoughts of victory came flooding with it. It was quickly crushed against the rock that was the frustrating realization that he had not landed a true hit, but a mere glancing blow. *Damnit... I was so sure...* He bent slightly over, catching his breath as he listened to the training dummy grant his complaints and complements. He could not help the flash of annoyance that shot across his face, which he quickly hid behind a sardonic scoff he let slip through the thin smile. *Fuck... He's right... Why didn't I see it earlier?..* He realized his mistake. He had gained a temporarily upper hand with the flaming dart, but had wasted the intitiative to press his opponent further without placing himself in unnecessary risk by charging into melee combat, one of his less honed skills, instead of following up with a secondary ranged attack.

First now did he notice the wind raging around them, not having processed it earlier, feeling the tug of it in the sooted longcoat and the brush of wildly growing hair atop his head. This would surely distort his aim. Not by much, but in worst case just enough to differ between a clean hit and a strife. *Of course... It wasn't enough to set me on fire, now he's gonna beat the shit out'a me...* He put his free hand into his pocket, holding three of the blowgun darts in his hand. With a quick movenet, he slung his arm towards the triplets before him, releasing the darts in his hand and launching the darts in a fan-shaped scattering. It was a desperate move, he knew, expecting the plausibility of a clean hit to be low.

With the same fluid motion, he followed by reaching inside of his leather coat and unsheathing the short sword for the second time during the duell. Then he ran. Straight forward, towards the middle one of the dummies, lifitng his sword arm to prepare for a strike. Closer. Closer. In the spand of a few moments, he had closed the short distance between himself and his opponent. He held a quick eye on the remaining enemies, though, expecting them to dodge the darts by moving around and then following up with a flanking attack. As he came within striking distance of his target, he halted, abruptly, as he swung the blade. Due to the premature halt of his charge, the distance would most likely not have been closed enough for the blade to strike the middle of the clones unless it ha moved during Sazari's charge.

As the arm came arching down, Sazawari twisted the angle of it, causing it to start swinging sideways towards his left. Using the force of the sudden stop of the speed he had built up by dashing towards the doll, he span around on one foot, adding the force of the runing speed into the spin, releasing the sword and sending it flying, spinning towards the clone on that angle. With the same spinning force, he let himself spin a quarter more of the circle while simultaneously bending the leg he was standing upon and the one he held rested above the ground. As he turned towards the direction from which he had come charging mere moments ago, he let the muscles of his legs spring to life, sending him leaping with multiple skips away from the enemies, which hopefully would have been cut short one man, and letting him pick up the blowgun he had dropped as he had charged. Having picked up three more darts from his pocket with his off hand while jumping, he would reload the blowgun and release a second volley of sharpened steel towards the clones.

Mouko landed pretty roughly, feeling his feet slide on the floor a few inches before the smoke from the scroll let out. If he had not jumped when he had, then he probably could have taken advantage of the situation from the doll using the scroll. Alas, such chances passed over Mouko pretty easily, and his thoughts returned to the tide of battle. The spikes could prove a problem, especially with the volley of orbs that were being set upon the battlefield. Once again, he hoped that his teammates would not be put in danger if he took the time to move out of the way. It was true enough that the spikes would limit Mouko's movement a lot if he were to take the care to actually avoid them, and nothing was more dangerous during a battle then a warrior's feet being full of holes. The blood would make his life a living hell as he slipped around, not to mention the amount of pain that it would cause. Such situations were best avoided if the young ninja were to win any sort of battles. Once again, the boy was placed in a situation where he had to think quickly and decisively if he were to defeat such a powerful opponent. Does he ever run out of ammunition? He's already fired quite a bit of these pellets about. Mouko's thoughts rushed through his head, almost at the same time that he began his counter movements.

The plan had been laid out as soon as Mouko noticed that his opponent had been bringing distance between them. There was no real way for a ninja without any offensive jutsu, ranged weaponry, or out matched speed to defeat an opponent from a distance. The only choice was to close the gap, and quickly. The first part of the plan had been formed when the doll had taken the higher ground, creating a severe advantage for him, except that the ledge was not completely safe from the average ninja. The only problem that it presented Mouko was that now he had to actually get up to the ledge without being pelted by a hundred of the little pellets. That was where Mouko had devised the second part of his plan.

Part two of the plan was to avoid the pellets all together, showing the instructor that he could possibly be afraid of getting hit by the projectiles, while also avoiding taking any unnecessary damage. He had made all of his movements at an angle that carried him forward and to the right of his original position. This would put Mouko much closer to the intersecting wall from the one that the creation stood upon. The plan had not originally been planned to draw out so many secrets of the creation, but it did present Mouko with an interesting option for avoiding the spikes. Mouko moved his left foot forward as soon as the pellets began to spray towards him, and then he jumped as hard as he could, giving himself enough momentum to run alongside the wall for a second towards the ledge that now held the strange creature. His hands were at the ready to fend off any heavy damage upon his face, while he streaked towards the creature. He could certainly afford to absorb a few blows on the way to the damned thing.

That was the forth part of the plan, closing the gap. If Mouko could manage it, then he would be a position to stop the onslaught of pellets from hitting him, while still delivering heavy amounts of damage to Bruinetto's puppets. If the creature were to jump from it's perch back towards the ground, it would be subjected to the same spikes that it had poured upon the field to hinder the movements of the young academy student. If it were to bring out another scroll, it would have to slow down before using the ninja tool, allowing crucial seconds for Mouko to close the gap. And best of all, if the fake-genin were to continue spraying at Mouko, he could absorb what blows hit his slender frame, before he rammed into the beast. Mouko knew that he was missing some piece of information, but he hoped that his actions would be enough to tip the scales in his favor.

Setsuko vs Battle Doll #1

It seems that Bruinetto had made a small miscalculation when programming this battle doll. At this point it was not working towards the over all lesson he was intending to convey. At this point he would be unable to change its protocol while it was actively in combat. These dolls were not perfect but never the less this doll should continue to give Setsuko a challenge one way or another. Having a bunshin-like consciousness they were capable of adapting to the given situation. Considering that the doll was facing against Setsuko with what appeared to be her preferred style of combat it needed to be creative in order to make this interesting.

The girl had taken a rather effective approach to dealing with the wild haymaker punch. Instead of dodging to where she still would have been in range of additional attacks she grabbed a hold of the attackers hand guiding the attack past her and using that as a method of propelling herself so she stepped around the puppet. Effectively this would get her out of harms reach for subsequent blows and also put her in a prime position for a blow against it. A powerful blow would land against the “ribs” of the battle doll. The wooden plating of the doll seemed surprisingly durable considering what it was made of. While this technique was sound and it allowed her to be the first of the bunch to actually achieve a full hit she wasn't out of the water just yet.

Being in such a close range to the doll and it's arm still fully extended from the punch the doll would turn it's body violently having the extended arm whip with it's arm to the side to where the back of its balled fist would aim to smash against the side of the girls face. Pulling that arm back the puppet would arrange it's hands near it's chest and thrust both of them forward with open palms hitting the girl in the chest with a pushing motion aiming to knock her off her feet and back and onto the ground. Pulling back it's hands it stood there in a defensive stance preparing for the following counter attack.

Sazawari vs Battle Doll #3

The boy was very cautious when dealing with multiple opponents when confronted with overwhelming force. Going for an approach of attacking all of them simultaneously with three basic shots from his blow dart all that would do is provide an easy attack to dodge. The one doll standing in the middle simply took the approach of ducking down low to have the dart soar over it as opposed taking off from it's position. The other two dolls would take a much different approach as they darted off in a diagonal the one to the left of the center doll heading left while the doll on the right did the opposite. The doll in the center would have this much to say. “When facing clones you have a number of questions to ask yourself. How do I best deal with them? Do I hit one hard and totally obliterate it? Do I spend multiple weak hits to become aware of which one is real and which one is the original? Do I use an area of effect attack to hit all of them at once? However one of the most important questions to ask is this.. are these clones real or are they illusions? Wasting energy on illusions gets you nowhere.”

Sazawari was already in the midst of acting while these words were being spoken he revealed his blade once more and came to a halt aiming for the clone that remained stationary during his advancement. The blade swinging through the air would make contact with the doll however there was no feeling when it made contact. The result of his attack would effectively cause the clone technique to disperse in an expanding plume of smoke. Having one less target to deal with would give him less targets to deal with but a major hindrance emerged from this. He was now caught in a small but short lived smoke screen as a result of the clones dispersal. The follow up attack made by the boy was a blind short which sent the blade hurtling through the air to come nowhere close to hitting its intended target. The methods he were trying to use in this scenario were effective in theory but there were small inconsistencies in his logic which ultimately limited the effectiveness of his attempts.

Sazawari jumping back a few steps towards the weapon he left behind was what the other two images were waiting for. There would not be one in front of him and one behind him both of them already prepared with an attack and ready to fire. Not even giving the boy the chance to prepare for an attack a similar attack like before would be used. Each of them fired off the same fire jutsu as before and they aimed to collide with the boy from both sides. However only one of these fire balls were real and there was no clear way to tell which of the two was fake or not. The boy had to either choose the option of going through with his original plan of attack to determine which of these last two images as real and take another hit or start to play defense.

Mouku vs Battle Doll #2

While Sazawari seemed to be facing the most difficulty with the techniques they were all the lowest rank abilities that Bruinetto had in his arsenal. They may have appeared visually impressive but that is all they were at this point. Mouko on the other hand was facing off against a doll who was programmed with what could be considered Bruinetto's strong suit, projectile taijutsu. This was going to constantly prove difficult for Mouko as the doll finely understood this method of combat through and through. It was anticipating the boys moves and what options he had available based upon the knowledge he had obtained over the course of this battle. In order to land an attack he had one real option, and that was to close the gap and draw the doll into the close range. This wasn't going to be an easy task no matter what he attempted.

The boy kicking off from the ground would clear the field of Makabishi spikes and proceed to utilize that momentum in order to run up along the side of the wall. Unless this boy was utilizing the chakra control method that would allow him to climb walls by sticking to them he would be constantly be being pushed back by gravity and losing momentum as he proceeded up towards the top. The doll would not give Mouko the time to close the gap as it would release a quick volley of projectiles down towards an opponent who was taking a defensive approach to closing the gap that he seemed more than willing to take the hit. However taking a hit was only a risk a shinobi should take if they are guaranteed to land a full hit or a critical blow as a result. In this case neither was going to be an option.

The doll would kick off from its perch and head off towards the rafters of the gymnasium and grab a hold of them hanging from the ceiling being sure to quickly turn itself around and watch the effect of it's attack against the opponent. “I also had the option of jumping out to the one spot where there were no Makabishi spikes which were right behind your initial starting point for a safe landing. Didn't Bruinetto-senpai tell you to realize that battles are not two-dimensional? You won't often be fighting in a building like this but certain missions will put you in this scenario.” Even if Mouko would utilize this moment to kick off from the wall in order to head up towards the battle doll it was prepared for him to try and attack in that manner and would intercept him with projectiles when he wouldn't be able to dodge. He could just simply jump up to the rafters and continue the battle up there but it was an area more suited to the strength of the doll.

Re: Testing...Testing..Is This Thing On? [Open]

‘Yes!’ she screamed internally as she felt her hand connect with the doll. This sudden urge of accomplishment filled her to brim and she wanted to look around and see if any of the two boys had managed anything substantial with their dolls. But she knew that if she let up now it would only put her in a worse position. The doll had taken the hit and was now in the state of answering her attack. The arm came so fast that she at first had not noticed it and she knew that if she did not do anything to either prevent the movement or block it in anyway, this would turn the tables into the dolls favour. Seeing the arm coming down towards her she realized she had two options; 1. Continue on the offense or 2. Go on the defence. She didn’t like the idea of going on the defensive after having landed her first hit and so began to think of a more offensive plan on how to punish this doll as much as she could. The arm coming down on her was extended and the doll was turning. With narrow eyes her hands flew up towards the elbow joint of the arm. Her hope was to stop the arm dead in its tracks by using one hand to grab onto the elbow joint and press one finger into the softer part on the inside of the joint while the other hand would seek out the lower part of the arm and put pressure on the inside tendons as well as stopping its motion.

The close proximity they had to each other made the time her hands had to travel much shorter than if they had been further apart. She reached out using the close proximity to her advantage and her left hand grabbed onto the elbow joint and immediately put pressure on it while the other hand reached out to the lower arm, clutching onto it like it was a lifeline. The wood of the doll would be very different than that of the skin of a human, but hopefully it would ‘react’ the same. Putting all her strength into her effort to stop the hand she would allow herself a small grin before she would try to turn the dolls arm in its socket, putting pressure not only on the elbow joint but also the shoulder and unless the doll wanted the arm to be pulled out of its socket would have to stop it motion.

If she managed to be successful at this she had a major decision to make. Would she just as a precaution snap the arm out of its socket or would she continue the pressure and see what the doll would do? She make a quick and maybe even a rash decision to just end it quickly as that is what any shinobi in the real world would have done. She continued the rotational force she had, if she had managed to block the arm in its arch that is, until it would become harder for her to continue to rotate the arm anymore and when that point would come she would yank the arm in the same direction in the hopes of dislocating it.

Re: Testing...Testing..Is This Thing On? [Open]

*Shit! Sazawari found himself between a rock and a hard place, figuratively speaking. With enemies on both fronts and fire erupting towards him, he was hard pressed to find a quick sollution to the situation. Even though he had managed to reduce the numbers of his opponent, albeit not entirely as he had planned for it to go, he just now realized what a foolish move it had been to make himself one weapon sparse in the face of further antagonists. Armed only with his blowgun and wits, he knew that he would have to regain the blade somehow. For the moment, the darts in his hand would have to suffice.

*What's that he'd been saying? Something about illusions?* The words of his adversary, although appearing distant in his ears when spoken earlier, came back to his mind, clear and unblurred. Why would he mention such a thing, unless it was indeed something he wanted Sazawari to think about, reflect upon. So... *Which one?* Of course, with some time to dwell upon the matter, Sazawari might have easily been able to discern the real one from the mirage. However, at the present he found himself in the middle of a pincer move, facing threats from multiple angles. There was a time for running, fighting, thinking, eating and so forth. Now was definitely the time to think. And dodge. Preferably in a reverse order.

It was strange, how moving the muscles of the body could make the muscles of the mind move as well. Seeing the impending balls of fire closing in upon him, feeling the gush of hot air being pressed towards him before the flames, made him think of at least one method he could utilize in order to differ the illusionary fireball from the real, and by extenion, which of the identical dolls would be the main target. With mere moments left before he risked incineration, he flung two of the darts in his hands into the air, each towards their respective fireball. It was not an elegant toss or a failed dart throw; A simple slinging motion had flung them spinning towards the fires without nearly half the speed it would attain by being launched through the blowgun. A quick glance to either of the sides would reveal which of the darts' fletches would take on fire and which passed unscathed, and thus, revealing the identity of his real opponent.

The second idea that came to mind was of equal risk. Truth to be told, he had been considering it the entire match, but was uncertain due to his lack of experience with it. However, now it was a moment of everything and nothing. With his now free hands, he put his fingers together and focused his chakra, just as he had been taught during previous classes [Kawarimi no Jutsu - Body Switching Technique]. His intended target to switch places with would be whoever spewed the real fire, in accorance to the dart test he had performed a mere second earlier. Hopefully, this would expose the victim of his strategy to the incoming fire techniques and reduce the amount of opponents by half.

Mouko watched as the puppet flew high into the air, it's body easily making it to the upper parts of the gym. The training dummy fired several of it's projectiles towards Mouko, who just did not have the time to dodge. If he were to drop down to the ledge, grabbing a hold of it with his hands, then it would be highly likely that the projectiles would make contact with his head. He could not risk taking such a heavy shot to such a vital part of himself. He had to find a way quickly to take as little damage as possible, while also still being able to counter the puppet. While the dummy was hanging high on the ceiling, looking at the battle from below, Mouko saw no way for him to fight such a thing the way he was going about it.

As the projectiles headed towards Mouko, he brought his hands out into a defensive position above his face, making sure to keep an eye out for the creation of Bruinetto's to make another action against him. The young boy let several of the small balls of paint explode against him, feeling searing pain around his left arm, left leg, and even around his mid-section. Luckily, none of the shots would prove fatal under normal circumstances, but he had a feeling that much of that had to do with his sensei not wanting him to suffer such injuries in the sparring match just yet.

After listening to the words of the training dummy, he decided that he would take it's advice. The boy leaped off of the side of the gym as hard as he could, even putting chakra on the bottom of his feet in order to help him move just a little bit further. His target was not the very top of the gym, but rather the space where none of the spikes had landed. As he skidded to a stop, the constant reminder of the hits along his body stinging, he noticed that the doll had taken up a spot a top the ceiling. "Battles are not two dimensional huh?" Mouko's eyes shadowed over as he pictured the battlefield in his mind. He pictured his allies having varying degrees of difficulty against their own dolls, while also moving around the same gym. "Then, why don't we branch out a little?"

The boy lifted his head back, as he shouted at the top of his lungs. Fueling his voice with his very own chakra so that it would carry even further, knowing that his teammates would not mistake the words that he spoke. Even a death man could hear the shout as he drove his own voice raw with the burn of his chakra. "Guys! Let's form up, and finish this battle as a team!"

Setsuko vs Battle Doll #1

This girl was quite adept at facing off in close quarters combat as expected. Regardless of how the doll attacked she seemed to pull something off to make the attack ineffective. Truth be told, this battle doll was limited to the techniques of Bruinetto. Considering that he was not skilled in close quarters combat the doll was limited to basic strikes and it's own wit in order to deal with the girl. However with the doll having the with of their proctor here that was more than enough to combat the girl here. Feeling Setsuko grasp upon it's arm with all her might if the doll could smirk it would realize that she was in reach. With such a tight grip fixated on the doll it's arm it would lean back pulling with all of it's body weight and with a fierce tug pull the girl forward. The doll was much larger and heavier than this girls frame so lighting her was like lifting a feather in comparison. With her being pulled towards the doll it would jerk forward with its head rushing for a head butting attack against her. The sheer force behind it would usher a stunning blow.

The doll would not waste this moment as it's other arm would grabs onto Setsuko's hand prying her grip away from his arm and reposition the other arm to grab onto her as well. The doll would begin spinning her around like rag doll gaining momentum before he would release her hurtling her across the gymnasium closer towards the array of Makibishi spikes. The nearer this battle of hand to hand combat go closer to those spikes the harder it would get for the two of them. One wrong step and the shooting pain of stepping on a spike could create an opening for another to take advantage of. Conversely with a well places attack one could be propelled into these spikes for excessive damage to be done to them. “In close range combat, understand that your size matters. You have a smaller frame and weigh much less. Your strength should rely on speed and quick hits. You don't have the brute strength to overpower a larger frame.”

Sazawari vs Battle Doll #3

At first glance it seemed that it was wasteful for Sazawari to utilize his blow darts in order to determine which of the flames were real. After all this is taking into consideration that one of them was actually an illusion and the battle doll was actually trying to deceive him by making him think one of them wasn't real. It would have been much easier in the long run to just avoid the attack all together and to play things safe. At least that is what the battle doll was thinking while watching the movements of Sazawari carefully. However there were methods to his madness as this was a plan to be utilized in the greater scheme of things. While not being able to directly witness all actions performed by Sazawari there would be a burst of smoke that appeared after the student was strike by the flames. Things would not go exactly as he intended though.

Sazawari had attempted to switch locations with the battle doll. In a scenario such as this the technique could only effectively be utilized against clones. Using this against a true person was dangerous as for one they now know directly where you are and you have to contest them in a melee contest in order to succeed. Turning around to face Sazawari the battle doll would lock hands with him getting into a brief clash of strength with the student. “I see.. your plan was interesting. Finding out which one created the real flames so that you may switch with them in order to take the damage. The body substitution technique does not work against a real body or puppets. The plan was solid, but lacking the in depth understanding of the body substitution jutsu is what made it not go as planned. You did manage to find who was the real opponent though. I can applaud you for that..”

Mouko vs Battle Doll #2

While the doll was hanging there from the ceiling it seems that the student really had no methods of dealing with a long ranged opponent. At each and every turn he was kept at bay and out of arms reach. It was good that he realize that things were not going his way and instead of stubbornly facing against an opponent who he could not directly defeat he was taking an approach that was never said could not be used here in the battle. It was the initial intent for all of them to go up against their respective dolls by themselves but it was never explicitly stated that they had to only fight those dolls nor were they unable to work together in order to defeat their established opponents.

“If you three are unable to defeat a battle doll on your own. Then how are you expected to defeat three of us at the same time? Presuming that your team mates will work with you as a cohesive unit each battle doll is of a similar mind. Namely, the user of clone technique which creates the mind which fuels the doll. What would be a deadlier team to face off against. Three of yourself that are essentially the same mind or the three of you with different styles and ideals on how to handle a situation?”
This exercise was not exactly something they were meant to win against. The overall design of the course was to get them to think about their styles. It was obvious here that Mouko was starting to get this as he was having the most troubles against his opponent.

~ Bruinetto ~

All the while Bruinetto had been gauging the progress of the three students who were going against his battle dolls. Out of all of them Setsuko-chan seemed to be having the least amount of trouble. The programming on that particular doll must have been off considering that he was suppose to make each of them face an opposing style which would put pressure on them. When faced off against a style that is the opposite of yours one often found a great deal of difficulty in battle. It forced you to think in a different way then you normally would when launching yourself into battle. You had to be more careful otherwise you could find yourself in a bad position. Mouko-kun was facing this bad position perfectly as he seemed to truly be at ends with the long ranged programming of the battle doll he found himself struggling against. Surely through this work shop he would realize the danger of focusing solely on one avenue of combat. While being an ace in a particular field was effective when you are up against an ace in what could be consider your weakness without other skills to round you off. Sazawari however seemed to be neither having an easy time nor having a difficult time. It took some extra thinking on Bruinetto's part in order to figure out what would be a good fit to face off against him. By the way he spoke of his abilities they would rely more on his chakra control and staying in the mid-range. He figured the best opponent would be an opponent who had superior chakra control and also stayed within the mid-range utilizing similar tactics as he would. Those versed in genjutsu would find themselves in a tight spot against an opponent who excelled in the use of ninjutsu and had powerful chakra control. The stronger the chakra control the harder it was to usurp that control and manipulate it for illusions.

Jumping down from the ceiling Bruinetto placed his hands together and performed a hand seal. The battle dolls would disperse into smoke as they would be summoned back to their holding scrolls. "You all have had to face off against a particular set of skills. Before we continue on, I do like Mouko-kun's suggestion on the three of you having to overpower one foe. It will be of the same calibur, but I will choose its skills carefully. I will ask you this before we continue on though. Do tell me, is there anything in particular you noticed about your foes. What have you learned from this?" Having them train their bodies and skills was one thing but it was far important for them to understand what they were learning and why.

It had been a close call and before Bruin had dismissed the dolls the situation had turned and left her in a bad spot. The plume of smoke dissolved in front of her she listened intently to Bruins words while she recalled what the doll had said before it was dismissed. She was the first to answer Bruins questions and with a stern face, a calculating and a thoughtful voice she looked at the man “They are heavy, heavier than their frame would suggest. The wood is also harder than what would have been skin have we been against a human. The doll I sparred against were superior to me in strength and weight, though when it came to speed and maybe even the thought process behind its moves it did not seem to be superior but that could of course be because you had to keep three of them fighting while using your own charka. Fighting against one which will be supported by your full attention will be different in every aspect.” She allowed herself to put on a tiny smile, barely noticeable unless one was to really focus on her face. Looking to the other two see saw that they seemed to be in ‘worse’ shaped than her. They had all fought different dolls with different skills, she had gotten a doll which seemed to have the same strengths as her – this thought also reminded her that she had yet to see and learn what the other’s strengths were. While waiting to hear what the others had to say she began to rub those places which were sore or felt like they had been stretched in a bad way. If they were going to be three on one she would need to be prepared as it would be completely different matter than the previous fight had been.

The initial hit from the fire technique had been less painfull than he had anticipated, but it had been a hit nonetheless, and Sazawari, not being the most enduring of fellows, felt the sting. The next thing he knew, he was standing face to facewith one of the dolls, finding himself entangled in a match of physical strength, one he knew immediately that he would lose. The adrenalin of the situation which had coursed through his body and fuelled his drive was slowly ebbing away, and first now did he notice the sensation of fatigue that was rapidly spreading through his body, weighing down every limb and muscle. He felt his arms give way to the opposer, and prepared himself for yet another incoming hit. Instead, he got his face and mouth full of smoke as the doll had ben unsummoned, causing his already exhausted body to exert in a violent episode fo coughing, attempting to suck fresh air into his lungs

He heard voices. . Mouko. Setsuki. Bruinetto. Setsuki again. Join forces? Not such a bad idea, Sazawari thought. However, before he got to further his thoughts on the matter, he responded lazily to the question of their teacher. "Clones are... Tricky, to say at least. And then there's the issue of information, preparation and strategy regarding the enemy." He thought back to separate moments of the earlier exercise, where he had earned himself scorn for failure to access the necessary information before launching an attack, how he had thrown away his melee weapon, how he ahd used his own body as a shield for his own attacks. It wasn't really his way of fighting. Of course, deceit and sly tricks were always good tools for any warrior, soldier or agent, but to the excessive methods he had utilized, put himself in unnecessary risk. He had wanted to finish the fight quickly. Too quickly. He was usually laid-back, lazy, patient. Why he had let go of himself completely, he had no proper answer, except the one he had already provided himself. "Whe ho runs away lives to fight another day. When outnumbered, back out untill the situation has been assessed."

Mouko looked upon the face of the doll, sitting at the very top of the gym, well out of the reach of the ninja. The voice drifting through its strange body came floating down to the younger ninja. He had no idea what he was supposed to do about actually fighting this particular doll, but maybe he would have a better chance against one of the other dolls in the area. It seemed that for the time being, the doll was content to just teach Mouko instead of attack him with several barrages of more projectiles. Mouko decided to answer it's question loudly enough for the rest of the room to hear what he had to say. "After looking at this situation, I have realized that defeating you by myself would be too difficult. Your abilities counter my own way too easily. Although, I know for a fact that Sazawari has ranged capabilities, which would give him a better chance against you. Setsuko is even stronger in Taijutsu than myself, so the two of us can continue to attack the other two dolls together. With our combined might, we could take out one doll at a time, while Sazawari keeps you off of us. So how can we hope to defeat three enemies together when we can't beat one alone? That's easy, together we can do anything." Mouko dusted off his gi as he awaited the answer from Bruinetto's doll.

After a few moments Mouko watched the doll disperse, and their instructor jump to the ground to address the three children. He was looking for an explanation of what the group had learned about their opponents, which was easy enough. Mouko had spent the entire fight analyzing the dolls movement and combat capabilities. Given a little more time, he could have probably figured out more about the dolls style of combat, and come up with an effective way to take it down instead of pinning it to the ceiling. "My battle partner used a ranged weapon of some kind that sent several tiny projectiles at a long range. On it's side were summoning scrolls that it could access quickly in order to control the path of its opponent. When I tried to close the gap between us, it would avoid firing as many of those projectiles, and instead focus on keeping the distance between us. Through this, I have determined that the overall defense of my opponent is quite low. I also believe that the spikes were not the only utility tool that it had access to. According to the text book, 'When fighting a ranged opponent, there are two ways to defeat them. Having access to ranged jutsu, or having a teammate with ranged jutsu.' I had not taken much stock in that until this battle, but now I see the point of it." Mouko sighed as he let his voice relax after such a long answer to his instructor's question. He leaned back on his heels real quick, feeling the fatigue of the battle settling upon him.

Standing there he listened carefully to all the students and their answers to his question. All of them had some interesting interpretations of their opponents and their reasoning for facing against them. “Seems that you all learned something entirely different than I was trying to convey initially. However I am going to highlight what I was attempting to do here with this exercise. There is a phrase I would like you all to think about. 'Jack of all trades, master of none, Often times better than a master of one.' You all mentioned about your specialties at the beginning of this exercise. I tried my best to come up with what would be the best to counter each of your specific abilities you felt were your strong point. Presuming that at this point in your training there were aspects you clung to more heavily when it came to your approach to battle.”

Pointing over towards Setsuko. “For instance, you mentioned that you feel your strong point was close ranged combat. Generally, females are built differently than males. While with proper chakra control and technique you can compensate for the physical differences. Males tend to be stronger overall, but females tend to be more agile. I pit you up against an opponent that would highlight a weakness you will have to overcome as a close ranged fighter. Take this into consideration for the future with your own training. While there is a lot we can teach you here in the academy seek out your own lessons as well.”

His eyes would then shift to Mouko. “This was a perfect example for you. At this point in time you are entirely outclassed by a long ranged opponent who knows what they are doing. You are the only one here who did not manage to score a hit against their training dummy. However, had I put this opponent against Setsuko-chan I do not think she would have done any better and would have faced similar perilous odds in merely attempting to make contact. Picking up some long range techniques whether it just be a low level ninjutsu or simple projectile or ranged taijutsu could provide a distraction. All it takes is one moment where your opponent loses focus for you to take advantage of it. I was also surprised you didn't consider grabbing some of the projectiles off the ground and using it yourself. If you find yourself without long ranged weaponry against a long ranged opponent that is a way to arm yourself and find a way to strike back from a distance.”

Finally the last on the list would be Sazawari. “You were the hardest one to think of something for. Considering your rather non-specific listing of what you felt was your strong suit I figured I would pit you up against a mid-ranged opponent with strong chakra control. Utilizing both genjutsu and ninjutsu. If you plan to use genjutsu, know that chakra control is a deadly enemy to fight against. If you cannot win that contest and cannot overcome them with illusions then things will get tricky. I feel you did exceptionally well but take not I made sure to never use about D rank techniques. I felt it would have been unfair had I used some of my stronger jutsu.”

With summing up his thoughts on their development he was going to give some final words before moving on to the final part of the lesson. “Just do not allow yourself to focus too heavily onto one aspect of techniques. Becoming an Ace in one category will take you far but such specialty comes at a price when facing up against the antithesis of your ability. Now your lack of diversity can be compensated by your team mates more certainly. You should always consider the worst case scenario of having to deal with an opponent one on one. The odds will not always be in your favor after all.”

Heading back over towards his scrolls he would summon forth a single battle doll. “This doll will have the same power as the last ones you fought individually. I am going to program it by being an Ace in a certain category only. You three will have a limited amount of time to figure out what this specialty is and to defeat it accordingly. I think the three of you together would be capable of taking on a single genin level opponent so long as you work together.” Pressing his hands together to activate the battle doll he would then jump back up to the rafters reclaiming his birds eye view. “The timer will begin whenever you three initiate an attack. I will give you one minute to prepare before I start the timer on my own. Be weary though, your opponent will be preparing as well.” Also, he was going to add some extra incentive to this. “If you pass this test, I will treat the three of you to a place of your choosing. It's the least your sensei can do for you.”

OOC:

This is how this will work. The "timer" for this exercise will be three rounds of posting. The opponent must be defeated by the end of the third posting round. I will post after the three of you. This first set of posts will not count as a round. Good luck!
