Kinjutsu App ::
[spoilername="Kinjutsu Application"]Life as a Gateru seemed to be difficult, but death… that came naturally. Thus, it probably didn’t surprise anybody when the family’s penchant for short life spans struck down all but the two youngest girls, who were saved by a twisted Kumogakue ANBU turned doctor. Through his twisted experiments, he frankensteined the dozen corpses into two relatively functional creatures, and left the unconscious siblings to enjoy their new sense of family unity.
Several years after the trauma died down and more practical assistance was given, Rega and her sister Rana began to delve into the darkness of their own transformations, the later joining the Med-Nin and figuring out the biological effects of the surgery. All their lives, they had literally been carrying not just the body parts, but the very souls and minds of their kin, and the voices and desires of the siblings drove both to near insanity on many occasions, but the dark arts allowed them to come to terms and even manifest in peculiar ways.
While Rana drew upon the blood of her siblings to emulate the requirements of Six Path Sagedom, Rega was stuck with the mutilated limbs of her mother Rakuga, youngest sister Roma, and middle brother Retsu sticking out of her back, constantly yearning for freedom and revenge. This lead her down the darker path of ANBU, and she relentlessly hunted down missing-nin and mercenaries in the hopes of finding those who brought death to her line. Despite only having half the people inside of her, Rega could not figure out how to let her family out of her body, and was more consumed with the malice that she pushed herself to continue to follow.
Rana had managed to make hollow shells of their father and other siblings, and anxiously tried to remove the intrusive bodies from her younger sister. The experiments of the mad doctor, however, were difficult to understand, and there was an unnatural resistance to the attempts. The ANBU girl also became more and more addicted to the power of being a Chimera, leading squads of hunters on brutal missions in war torn regions. It was only a matter of time before she could count those who wronged her in combat.
Little did they both know that the ninja who struck them down were aware of their survival all along, and were eagerly planning on finishing their job out of a professional pride. During a siege on a drug smugglers boat, they ambushed the tentacle monster of ANBU in great numbers. Cannons and auto crossbows flooded the air, and the cacophony of combat rang so loudly that the usually scared stiff port authorities couldn’t help but check to make sure they weren’t being invaded by another country.
When the dust settled, there was no kunoichi to be found, although the crossfire had wiped out several dozen low ranking thugs and enforcers. Those better versed in combat with ninjas were not amused to find a pile of sand where their foe once stood, and knew that somehow the cunning creature was able to escape. Sirens rang out as the local law was forced to try and contain the situation, but by the time they were finally silenced, there was nothing left alive on the ship.
Stretching out in maddening, unnatural arcs, Rega’s extra limbs had come to life without her will, and tore human beings to shreds with clawed fingertips and comically sized construction equipment. The teenager didn’t fail to participate as well, using her terrible strength to pulverize the criminals to blood pudding. The sisters had mastered ninjutsu like none in their clan had ever dreamed, were welcomed members of the upper echelon of their respected professions. This was the day Rega had dreamed of as she pushed her mangled and ruined body into greatness, and victory came all too quickly. Even when the last enemy had fallen, she hadn’t realized it until her family stopped moving, and became dead weight on her back.
Amidst all the corpses, she only took a second to draw in the scene before fleeing. There were dreams, once, of what she would say and how she would revisit the experience tenfold upon the shinobi, but there wasn’t any room for such a vendetta in her job. There was a mission, a return, a debriefing and then another briefing and a mission. Day in and day out, without room for change or doubt forever. In her mind, this was how she had to operate in order to not descend into madness with the voices and impulses of four people in one body, but her opinion on the matter was keenly disputed this time.
Every one of her tendrils, of which there were an alarming sixteen, would not come back to life. This made up more than the mass of the kunoichi, and made escaping the Kelamura harbor quite tedious. Even afterward, no medical jutsu or chakra empowerment would return life to the appendages, and what was even worse, there was no clutter of voices either. The change was difficult to perceive at first, Rega being focused on the damage to her body, but as she struggled to think of what was going on, she realized that she was alone.
Huddled up in a screaming ball in the forest for over a day, her sister eventually found her after the results of the mission made it back to Kumogakure before her. Shivering and exhausted, the younger sister drew upon the last reserves of her vitality to embrace the comforting figure, but was quickly pulled back to the dirt by the unresponsive limbs attached to her back. It only took Rana another glance to piece together the gist of what had transpired, and she quickly hoisted the girl onto her back (which was quite a burden even to the strongest of shinobi) and radioed ahead that they would be returning and need an operation room open.
Removing the pieces of their mother and siblings from Rega proved unchallenging this time, onlookers considering the medical genius of Rana and advancement of the field since they first came the major factors. The elder sister, however, noticed that there was no resistance or attachment like when they were first operated on, the foreign bodies simply lay still and perhaps even exposed themselves somewhat to the removal process. Either way, Rega was finally freed from the bonds of her dead kin, but her heart felt more hollowed than her body in the aftermath.
Although it was an odd request, the Med-Nin allowed the ANBU captain to take the remains without alarming her elder sister, and began to aggressively research her own Sage path for reviving the dead. Although lacking the number of kin that her big sister had inside her, Rega delved into the deeper connection she had between this life and the next, having kept the bond direct her entire life. Like night and day, the more she discovered, the more taboo the secrets she learned about the border between this world and the next, all the while pursuing the pulse of her mother’s soul. It was like chasing prey through a pitch black room, impossible for any normal human but a common work condition for a shinobi.
Finally ready to take her research to the next level, Rega returned to work. Although her strength and inhuman abilities were far lessened, she was still a lethal and dedicated captain of the ANBU, and her mission record was not deterred by the handicap she’d been given. Rather, she rededicated herself to the dangerous hunting of rogue ninja, the further away from the safety of home the better! For without the ever present eyes of her peers behind her, she was free to take the chakra-lingering corpses of her targets and do with them as she willed. There was no end to the number of subjects, and every completion brought her another step closer to her goal.
Within a few weeks, she had mastered the ability to reanimate a lifeless shell, but it took her months to understand the calling back of a soul, complete with memories and skills. In the end, it seemed to take a piece of her own vitality to do so, but this was nothing more than the externalization of the process that made her the monster she was only so long ago. Calling back her siblings and mother, she was able to reunite the family once again, although her summoning was somewhat flawed in that she could only fully restore one target at a time. Still, it came with the added benefit of strengthening her target with her own essence, and allowed her to gain a powerful companion in the midst of combat, with drastically different powers and experiences to draw upon.
As a final blessing, her knowledge of chakra and anatomy gained from her experiments allowed her to infuse her targets with altered life energies. While it could be used to create cursed seals and enhance the body at the cost of its vitality, the greater power for the ANBU kunoichi was the ability to cripple targets with a venomous miasma, capable of a multitude of terrible feats. Grateful to her field of study for showing her the powers of life and death, her unique specialization of miasma would continue on for some time to come…[/spoilername]
