Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Kahako hummed as she waited outside the hospital for Ayumu to arrive. Her original intention was to wait to cover this part of the medical branch until the end since it was a division the Raikage was so familiar with, but after the depressing situation they found themselves in last week, Kahako felt it necessary to make this week a little lighter.

And so, when her soon to be husband came up to her on the sidewalk, Kahako simply smiled. “Today’s lesson is going to involve a bit of a fieldtrip and some more hands on experience.” As Ayumu’s go ahead, the two of them would make their way to the part of the ancient forest.

He would recognize the place from his days in ANBU. A training area where squads would practice routine scenarios to ensure new trainees could properly function together as much as they could apart. With her Sentou uniform on, Kahako turned to Ayumu, setting some ground rules. “Today I’m going to be covering what the Sentou Henkan branch does, and how our tasks differ from regular field missions. Obviously, you’re very much aware of us on the side of ANBU, but on the side of the Medical Branch, things are very different. While the ANBU have a code of their own, we of the SH have to find a balance between your code, and our own. Since ANBU are not allowed to reveal their identities, we must also find a way to keep our identities hidden. As a result, while on missions, all Sentou Henkan members must also carry a mask and a call name. However, all members of the SH go by one call name: Suzume. the sparrows.”

Kahako and Ayumu would feel the presence of the ANBU who would help them in their endeavors today. “But we must also follow the tenets given to us by the medical branch. Do you remember them?” She asked as she donned her SH mask.

Ayumu was a bit late getting away from the Torre. Every time he went to leave, another person stopped him to ask for something. By the time he slipped away, he was a bit late. He took to the rooftops to avoid the crowds and dashed along at top speed. Despite his best effort he was a couple of minutes late, but at least Kahako wouldn't wait long. Ayumu spotted her outside of the hospital and dropped down from the nearest roof, approaching her hastily.

"Sorry I'm a bit late. Kept getting dragged back when I tried to escape," he apologized, holding up his hand vertically in front of his face. She didn't seem too upset but instead went ahead with telling him what they would be doing today. A field trip of sorts, it sounded like.

"Ooo~" Ayumu cheered. Who didn't like field trip days? A short while later they were in the forest, a location Ayumu was definitely familiar with. The ANBU used this location for some training. Almost instinctively, Ayumu formed a seal with one hand and then held his hand over his face. His old ANBU mask began to materialize over his face and he secured it in place where it would remain until they were finished. He paused as Kahako did, watching as she turned to address him. It made sense why they had come here now. The Sentou Henkan also used this location to train with the ANBU they served beside. Today he would learn about this cooperative effort from their side. He'd also found it interesting that they all utilized the same call name. Just then, Ayumu noticed the presence of someone who was approaching. The man was masked, but Ayumu immediately knew who it was regardless.

"Tsu-" Ayumu started, catching himself before he finished. The surprise had almost made him slip up. Tsumugu, Ayumu's brother, chuckled quietly behind his mask.

"Are you that rusty that you'd forget not to use my name? Aren't you technically still in charge of ANBU right now?" Tsumugu asked, poking fun at his brother. Ayumu let out a short laugh in response, shaking his head. In the past, the two Kogami brothers had not had the best relationship. There was a time when Tsumugu resented Ayumu to some extent. Ayumu's position as Sennin and then Raikage ended up placing a lot of pressures unintentionally on Tsumugu whom never had any interest in leading. Fortunately, the two had worked out that awkwardness years ago. This sort of squabbling was just the usual jabbing between siblings.

"Didn't expect you to be here. I guess if they could spare somebody to help us out it'd be you," Ayumu shot back.

"Didn't your Sensei ask you a question?" Tsumugu responded, pointing to Kahako who was no doubt waiting for an answer.

"Ah, sorry! I was just taken off guard. The tenets... eh... what were those again?" he asked, scratching the back of his head sheepishly.

Kahako sighed as she witnessed the back and forth banter between the two brothers. Walking up to her lover, she lightly rapped him on his mask with the back of her knuckle, “He’s here because I submitted a general request, and he offered to help me train you. You should be more appreciative since no one else wanted to compete against us so I could properly train you.” She exasperated.

With a click of her tongue, she moved to the center of the Arena. Tsumugu disappeared into the shadows of the tree line. It was obvious that both he and Kahako discussed before this moment what was going to happen. “Up until now, every battle you’ve encountered, one rule was always first and foremost in your mind: Survive. By any means necessary. In a battle with others on your side, you may have believed you could shoulder the burden of an attack to protect the weak, or trusted your allies enough to be able to handle themselves in battle. No matter the reason, From Gennin to ANBU Sennin, the philosophy of battle is all the same: preservation of the self.”

“But for mednin, there is more. We are there to ensure the preservation of, not only ourselves, but everyone on our team. As such, four rules make up the code of conduct in the medical branch. Rule one: “
Kahako began with the raise of a finger. “The loss of life is permissible, failure to fight the loss of life is not.” With this, Ayumu would sense several clones of Tsumugu before they came rushing out towards Kahako’s rear with blades drawn.

“Rule Two: No medic ninja shall ever stand on the front lines.” Slipping into a battle stance, Kahako pulled the water from the foliage around her. The grass and leaves withered and died as their very life essence was pulled from them. “Rule Three: No medical ninja shall ever die until they are the last of their platoon.” Quickly, Kahako drew water kanji, a giant shield erected itself behind her, effectively stopping Tsumugu’s clones from their assault. After the counter, Ayumu’s brother immediately withdrew back into the shadows. Kahako turned to the last place she saw him and scanned the area through the eyeholes of her mask.

“And the last rule, rule four: Only those medic ninja who’ve become a Master Combat Medic are permitted to discard the above-mentioned laws.” Pulling the water she recently used back within herself, Kahako began another series of kanji, this time on the offensive. “Using your knowledge of ANBU two-man formations and the rules you are now to follow without question, your task is to ensure my mission is completed: Take your brother’s mask from his face.”

Apparently Tsumugu was here to help Ayumu train. Of course, what that entailed, Ayumu was not yet privy to.

"Wait, compete against us?" Ayumu asked. Were they planning to spar? Thinking quickly, Ayumu formed a few quick handseals as Kahako signaled to Tsumugu and the younger brother disappeared into the trees. In this dense portion of the forest, the light was dim at best. These were good conditions to work in the shadows which was bad news for the two who remained out in the open. An illuminated glyph appeared over Ayumu's chest for a moment before going dim, signifying that a Medical Ward had been placed. This was a special kind of healing technique Kahako had taught him that could be activated for a quick heal in a pinch. It even had the ability to bring someone back from the brink. Ayumu was acting as support here, so by the rules he'd heard from Kahako he didn't go down before her. Of course, neither of them were likely to go down in this exercise, but it was good to act as though it was real.

Ayumu listened as Kahako went over the Med-nin mantra, but he couldn't just sit still and listen. Clones of Tsumugu appeared and rushed towards Kahako from behind. "Behind you!" he warned her as his hand instinctively reached for the hilt of his sword. He paused as Kahako dropped into her battle stance, remembering his purpose for this fight. As Kahako began gathering water from their surroundings into a shield to protect herself, Ayumu drew his blade and as he did so, formed a few handseals with his free hand. Upon completion, rain would begin to fall from the sky, but before long the cold would shift the form of the precipitation to snow instead. Kahako's element was unquestionable water. Ayumu was aiming to provide more of it for her use. Ayumu nodded as Kahako explained their goal. It was not for him to take Tsumugu's mask, but for him to aid Kahako in doing so. He had an idea of how to begin that process as he went through a new series of handseals.

"Well then, let me shed some light on this situation for you," he said, completing his handseals and activating his next jutsu. Ayumu would begin to glow faintly with a pulsing light. At first, one might wonder if this was all the more light he would be providing, but the purpose would become clear quickly. Kahako would find herself sparkling with light, but more important a few moments later something else would sparkle with that shame light in the shadows between the trees outside the clearing. This effect only occurred for the real deal, not for clones or other creations. Tsumugu's position was revealed.

"There! Only the real one would light up that way," Ayumu said, pointing towards Tsumugu's ruined hiding spot.

Kahako grinned when she saw Ayumu heed her words and place a ward on himself as his first action. When he casted Rain Dance, she felt her own chakra leap in animated glee before moving into the next series of attacks.

Tsumugu tsked when he realized Ayumu ruined one of the few advantages he had in a 2v1. Realizing the Raikage gave Kahako a significant boost to her damage, output, he found himself just barely dodging a series of ice spikes. “Oi!” He called out to his future sister-in-law as one just barely missed an important place for a man. “You’re suppose to take my mask, not kill me!”

Kahako smirked at Tsumugu’s outburst. She should probably tone it down a little, but it had been a long time since she last participated in an actual battle. “Sorry~” she called before casting another jutsu, this time with the intent to bind.

However, before she could complete the Kanji for her water prison, a blast of heat emitted from Tsumugu. Kahako frowned slightly, realizing that her next attack would have nearly as much power on it as she would have preferred.

And as a result, it missed by Kimiwari. Tsumugu, realizing he needed to take Ayumu out if he had any hope of winning, appeared behind the Kage, blade out, as he tried to cast a series of attacks at his older brother.

Kahako, realizing his change in tactics, rushed to the two pairs, all the while keeping an eye on what Ayumu would do when directly attacked by the enemy.

Ayumu chuckled at the exchange between his fiancee and brother, the latter reminding her that this was a spar not a real battle. Of course, a spar between shinobi was always fierce. "Don't worry lil bro, we're not going all out!" Ayumu consoled him, though of course from a brother it would sound like a jab. Of course, it was true... even if Kahako had gotten a little carried away, it wasn't an all out attack- that would be completely unfair. Not appreciative of the rain, Tsumugu seemed to cast a jutsu to counteract some of the effects. Ayumu could feel the heat even at the distance between them. Kahako seemed to connect with an attack, but with a puff of smoke Tsumugu was revealed to have switched with a log.

"Damn,"<i></i> Ayumu cursed. He didn't expect what happened next. He felt and heard the presence of his brother appearing behind him, preparing to attack Ayumu. Ayumu's hand quickly found the hilt of his blade. This time, he drew it as he spun and raised it to guard against his brother's sword. A clang echoed through the clearing followed by several more as Ayumu deflected blow after blow on the defensive.

"Quick reminder Ayumu: You're not supposed to be on the front line here,"<i></i> V'eru reminded Ayumu, whom nodded in realization. Fortunately for him, he had a slight advantage here. Wielding his sword did not prevent him from casting jutsu. As long as he had one hand free he was still quite capable. Tsumugu was not aware of that fact yet. To add further surprise, he intended to use something even harder to see coming. A quick few handseals with his free hand and the jutsu was cast. A mass of chakra, not visible to the naked eye, swelled between Ayumu and Tsumugu and then struck Tsumugu taking him by surprising and sending him careening backwards. Ayumu's goal was to put space between himself and Tsumugu, which he had succeeded in doing. Capitalizing on this, he did a few quick nimble backflips as Kahako charged forwards, allowing her to take the position of vanguard once more.

With a bit of space to work, Ayumu sped through another series of handseals and activated yet another jutsu. Exhaling hard, he blew out a cloud of steam which would surround Tsumugu. Normally, the steam would burn the flesh, but Ayumu had dialed back the heat quite a bit. However, the secondary effect was the key here. Tsumugu would feel as though the steam were somehow alive... and attempting to hold him in place. It was called Steam Snare for a reason. It would become much more difficult to move quickly... or avoid whatever Kahako had in store next.

Kahako couldn’t help but feel a bit proud as Ayumu remained on the defensive. Slipping into the mist he created, she came in low a Tsumugu struggled to break free. She aimed for his gut with her fist. The punch would wind him, and from there the match would be over. At the last second, he shifted his body. Not away, because the bind held on too tightly, but enough. This hit connected... but not where either of them were expecting...

Kahako paled. “Sorry! Sorry! I’m sorry! I was aiming for your stomach!” She said, jumping away as if she herself took a hit. You don’t usually intentionally punch your little brother in the balls, after all. Kahako stared, horrified at what she just did. The ANBU sagged to the pain, but the punched worked in breaking his bind. With an awkward limp to his walk, Tsumugu pulled a good distance away from the pair before throwing his hands up. “Timeout!” he said, crossing his arms in front of him before going down on one knee. Immediately, Kahako rushed to his aid.

“Fuck! This is the last time I do a favor for you two!” He bit out angrily, pulling his mask off and throwing it to the ground. Using his blade as a momentary staff to keep himself up, another string of expletives came out of his mouth as he did all he could to ride the pain. His face was so pale and drenched in sweat, that Kahako thought he was going to pass out any minute. As Ayumu approached, a look that could kill grew on the brother’s face. “Don’t you dare say a word,” he threatened, knowing his brother only too well. Kahako continued to apologize profusely as she knelt beside him, a little shell shocked on how this went south so damn fast.

Immediately, Ayumu could tell that his cloud of steam had worked and was holding his brother in place. This set Kahako up perfectly to launch her next attack, an attack which Tsumugu wouldn't be able to avoid. That attack was a little more than Ayumu had in mind, however. He couldn't see what happened precisely, but hearing the groan followed by Kahako's profuse apologies it was easy enough to piece together that puzzle. "Oooo..." Ayumu hissed, knowing the pain all too well as a fellow man. Tsumugu didn't even have to call a Timeout, Ayumu wasn't about to continue after a low blow like that.

As Tsumugu grumbled about never helping them out again, Ayumu approached just behind her. He couldn't help but laugh, though he tried to stifle it with a hand over his mouth as Tsumugu told him to shut up. "Sorry, sorry..." Ayumu apologized between the chuckles that slipped out. "That said, it wasn't a bad combo was it?" Ayumu said, his pride over the successful bind ever so slightly visible. "How was that Kahako-sensei? Am I a decent support character?" Ayumu asked, flashing a grin and a thumbs up.

“Don’t just stand there and laugh!” Kahako scolded as she grew more and more flustered. Now as cherry red as a tomato, she summoned a bit of chakra to her hand and laid it gently on Tsumugu’s thigh. A numbing feeling trickled up through the muscles, and as a result the ANBU’s shoulders relaxed. “Thank you,” Tsumugu muttered before resting his forehead on the hilt of the sword.

Kahako sighed after Ayumu’s apology. “Yes, I guess you are right. It was a very good combo.” Lifting her hand, she stood again and mentally reviewed Ayumu’s performance during the course of the fight. “Overall you really took the tenants seriously. I must commend you for placing a ward on yourself before doing anything else. At the start of battle, your teammate may not need immediate medical attention, so anything you can do to prolong yourself in the battle, you should do first. If you were a regular trainee however, I would caution that line of thinking because if you enter an ongoing battle, the situation might be entirely different. Always remember that there can be situations where the rules of the medical branch can contradict each other, so it’s important to always be aware of the situation and adjust accordingly. I doubt in a serious setting you’d ever be relegated to support, however,” she said with a chuckle.

It was at this time, Tsumugu stood, now mostly recovered from the game willing blow. “I assume this means you got what you wanted out of me?” He said, picking up his mask and refastening it to his face..

Kahako turned and nodded, “Yes, thank you so much, Tsumugu-kun.” Kahako said with a timid smile before offering him a sincere look of apology. “I am really, very sorry for what happened. I promise I’ll make up for it, and for your time.” The ANBU turned his back, his expression hidden from both of them.

“Do what you please.” he replied before disappearing into the trees. Kahako turned back to ayumu, a look of worry on her face.

“I hope he doesn’t hate me from now on…” she muttered before she began to play with her fingers nervously. She never wanted to create a rift between any of the members of Ayumu’s family, and the thought of Tsumugu not liking her made fidget in worry. She never had a brother after all, and was delighted in the prospect of getting one through Ayumu… but what she hoped would have been a good bonding experience turned out to be the exact opposite.

"Don't worry. He and I had a rocky relationship for a long time... I can tell you from personal experience, that's not how he acts when he hates you,"<i></i> Ayumu assured her. He didn't like thinking about the times when the two of them hadn't gotten along, but he could take comfort knowing they had worked past it. Regardless, Kahako had praised his efforts, so he was in a pretty good mood now. "Trust me, he likes you. Just maybe don't kick him in the balls ever again,"<i></i> he continued before patting Kahako on the shoulder with a small snicker. With that, their training was complete for the day. Ayumu truly felt that he was learning a lot about medical shinobi this way.
