Once again, I would look at the blonde child in front of me as I waited for him to respond to my questions and continue our little dialogue that we were having with one another after his hard-fought battle against my guard where he came up just short. In all honesty, his mind seemed quite absent since he got hit hard and fallen, but he also was young and likely was suffering some side-effects from this combative spar that he endured. After all, it was highly unlikely that he was accustomed to these sorts of things with the somewhat frail appearance that he gave off to me. But, I had been proven wrong before and this likely would be another instance of that since our students almost always proved me wrong in some way. They were after all being taught in the best village with the best foods and drinks along with other best things that would take hours to describe. Only time would tell if my assumption was right or not!
After a few moments, it would appear that he would snap back into reality and explain to me what poison he had chosen to inflict on my guard. It was actually a well-known one around the village that caused instances of blindness and made it quite difficult to fight properly. Considering that the side-effects could be quite problematic in the long-term, it was a good thing that he kept the details about the poison at a minimum and got right to work as I saw him using what appeared to be an advanced technique to carefully extract the poison. It was actually quite interesting to watch the boy work so carefully with his techniques to remove the poison without causing long-term damage to the guard. Sure, she had black gas escape her mouth and she responded accordingly by freaking out, but Shin did not once stop or tense up based on how she reacted. It was a good sight to see from a child so young in age, but so much more wise than some of his predecessors who walked into these grounds and showcased their skills. This whole procedure would take a few minutes and I would observe everything that transpired so I could add it to the Oracle books at a future date if I didn't forget to do so which I was notorious for doing. At the end, Shin would present his prize to me and I would just shake my head and a hand with a smile on my face as I didn't need his item to show me that he had been more than capable of doing a procedure.
As he was handling his little capsule-like poison, he would speak informing us that the side effects from the poison should be ending shortly which brought a relief to the guard for obvious reasons which included a long and loud exhale from her mouth. While the guard was relived to hear this noise, Shin would continue talking and ask me personally if I knew anything about shadows which was an odd question to ask someone since we all had a shadow so I obviously knew about them. However, he would go even a little further and point past my shoulder saying that he was seeing something behind me. As he closed his eyes, I would turn around and for a brief moment I would see a shadowy figure that was clad in armor of some sort and just peering right at me.
However, this sight would vanish only after a few moments and I would look back at the boy who still had his eyes closed and had to question exactly what he had done. It was a rather peculiar technique if he was trying to play games with me, but the way that he had been acting up since he awoke from his unconscious state made me feel like he wasn't trying to mess around with me. In other words, something was off or odd to put it mildly though I had no exact idea what was transpiring so I would have to let it go for now. Besides, the boy appeared to be quite shook up from this all so it was best to let him alone with it for now.
Trying my best to change the subject, I would bring my hand to my face and clear my thought before simply saying: "I know of shadows as we all have them. But after seeing what I believe you just showed me, I do not feel that I know of the shadows that you are asking me about. However, I will do some research into them and see if I can find any information in the library about it that might be able to assist you, Shin. But, let's talk about your results from your exam. Shall we?" I definitely wanted to deviate from his question since I did not have an actual answer for him and it was better to not let him reflect on it for too long or it would spoil his day and the happiness that would come from what I was about to say.
Clearing my throat again, I would walk over to the boy and place one of my hands on his shoulder, smiling as I spoke to him with a gentle tone in my voice: "Based on my mental calculations, you have passed your Genin Exam. When it comes to your fighting skills, they are your weakest area and where you will want to spend most of your time training. You have an excellent grasp on the basic jutsu however needed to survive in this cold, harsh world and you're mentally more suited than many of your peers at this time when they were taking their exam. If I may make a suggestion, I would advise trying to use more Ninjutsu or Taijutsu when you are fighting as your illusionary techniques are great, but they truly do not have the same impact on an opponent in the long run. However, I am not you and thus, I cannot tell you what you should and shouldn't do technically as we all are built differently and what works for me may not work for you." It was true, he had graduated from the Academy, but he still had a long way to go before he was anywhere close to where I was in strength, courage, endurance, wits and so forth. I didn't think that he was incapable of getting there though, but he would have to bust his butt to get anywhere close to me. But if my former apprentice was capable of defeating me in combat and showing that she was more than capable of handling herself, I had no doubt that Shin could do the same.
But, the happy news did not stop at passing him and making him a Genin. No, there was more that I had to say to him as my other hand would go on his other shoulder as I continued speaking to him. He was going to love this next piece of information for sure since it was where he said he wanted to be afterall. I would say the following: "Also, I am offering you a position in the Medical Branch starting off as a medic-in-training if you are interested. You showed me that you can handle yourself while under pressure in combat and also when tending to someone who needs your help. You also have many unique jutsu that truly would be beneficial to the medical field, yourself, and me personally. However, my only condition if you accept my offer is I want to provide you with a seal that will give you an additional source of strength and endurance in the Hospital and also when you are doing field work or assisting someone that needs you. The seal is a strong one though and should not be abused as it also has consequences if you overuse it. What say you, Chikamatsu Shin?"
The offer was on the table for him now with one small condition that needed to be agreed upon. But, he was so close to having everything that he wanted as an individual thus far in his life that I highly doubted that he would argue with my condition. However as I said before, these students were notorious for surprising me and I wouldn't put it past him to offer a rebuttal. But, only time would tell and the ball was in his court so to speak. What would he do?
