Mission Objective: Investigate the Base
[Mission Start]
Dante darted his way through the low-lands of Lightning Country, closing in on his objective; the blacked-out military base. It had gone silent late yesterday, but the army didn't have any other forces in the area, so they requested a single shinobi scout to investigate. And that shinobi ended up being Dante.
He really couldn't complain, it seemed like a simple enough mission, and the fresh air was pretty good.
And then... the air got a lot less fresh, and a bit more smoke flavored. Dante, already savvy enough to figure out what he was about to find, stopped in his tracks and took cover just in case. 'Aw hell...', Dante slowly advanced through the shrubs and trees until he came out to a clearing, and his suspicions were confirmed; in front of him was a large complex, almost entirely burned to ash. Under the circumstances, Dante had one specific word that fit: "Shhhhhit"
Of course, he kept his voice down, just in case whatever did this was still around.
Dante looked out into the ruined base through the optic scope attached to his repeater; "No hostiles..." Dante confirmed. While still behind cover he activated his headset and started transmitting "Dante to Mission Control, visual confirmed, base attacked, terminal damage, will begin search for survivors or verified bodies. Over." he calmly said through the transmitter microphone. After a short pause, Dante slowly, carefully left his cover behind and moved into the base.
Dante moved through the rubble, his repeater at the ready just in case there was a threat he had missed on his first sweep of the base. The atmosphere was slightly nauseating... as he made his way deeper into the destroyed complex Dante started to find bodies buried in the ashes, charred bodies. "Somebody went overboard on the fire jutsu here..." Dante said while resisting the urge to puke... charred bodies were a definite source of nausea fuel for Dante; which was ironic, since one of his few talents with ninjutsu was in the fire element, maybe that explained why he didn't use ninjutsu very often...
Dante kept count of every body discovered in his search, he was fairly sure at this point that there had been no survivors of... whatever had happened here last night, but he had to make sure. The count continued to rise as Dante patrolled around the rubble, using a methodical search pattern to examine every part of the area, while still keeping a look out for anyone who might still be there, friend or foe. After about a half hour of searching all Dante had to show for his efforts was a recorded bodycount, everyone was either dead or long gone. There was an urge to find out who had done this, to follow them to their base and get to the bottom of this, but that would have been unwise... if Dante was going to continue his investigation he would need reinforcements, so for now he sent another broadcast.
"Target: Confirmed Total Loss, Fifty Confirmed Dead, Returning to Base. Advise deployment of a retrieval squad for the bodies. Over and out."
Dante made his way back towards the village. 'Well, this is going to be a fun debriefing...' Dante thought as he left the scene.
