Bugendai Ketsueki loved going on his monthly excursion out into the wilds. It was a place that often calmed Ketsu and made him feel human again, or at least what human used to be. Kill and be killed, sitting at an operating table, handling social situation…all were lose once someone started to live off the land and seek what nature provides.
His grandfather and father had always told him about how new medicine was great and even amazing but there was always something to the old ways that you needed to keep with you. This was why he often went out into nature. Only the best herbs grew where there were no people to mess with their eco-system. It was a cloudier, colder day than most, which was saying something since this was lightning country. Ketsu needed to wear a cloak to make sure that he would be warm enough for the journey. See despite everything else he always wanted to climb the nearby mountains and maybe hunt through some caves for some of the harder to reach mushrooms.
Things were going well in his life he deduced. His main goal right now was to be the best doctor he could be, push the dreams of others into a possibility. Life was a very fickle thing, leaving those sometimes as swiftly as a snake and at other times storming in like giant lighting storm. These were things he had seen the loss and renewal of life, he wanted to preserve these things. If he could preserve the dreams of living and allow the dead to rest then all of his goals would be accomplished.
Finding himself up a small hill he looked back, only to notice he could barely make out where Kumo was. He sat down and calmly looked back at it, imagining how many people had left the village only to never look back upon it. He pulled out his snake of sandwich stuff and munched silently, listening to sounds of the world.
Maybe it was perspective that he needed to better handle his situation. Many of his friends were searching for dangerous and forbidden power and here he was supposed to help them and watch them fall to corruption or leave them be and what…hope that they failed? No matter which decision he made it always seemed like the wrong answer at the end of the day.
Ketsu wondered if it was even his right to try and mess with things like that. Doctors nowadays were walking a fine line between what was morally right and what was out of line. Thinking on what was going on with Haji made him wonder if even shinobi had gone too far in what should be done. What would God think right now…what was he thinking about what was considered “progress” He took a sigh and sipped his water considering he should start moving.
“Herbs are not going to pick themselves now are they?” With that he got up and brushed off his cloak and set off to begin the climb again. No telling if he would even find what he was looking for.
