Rei could easily pass as a guy, a short one, but with her short hair, and the fact she always has her chest wrapped. When she actually dresses like a girl, she is on the cute side. Only one scar stands out on her back, it's the biggest one, she got it from one of many fights she has had in the past.

Character History:
Rei was born in Kumo, into the Santaru clan. Her parents were pretty low in the clan, due to their attitudes, power was everything to them, and they wanted a boy because they believed boys were more powerful. They were given a girl instead. Her parents tried to have another child but were stuck with her, and that’s how they viewed it. Because of this, the other clan members didn’t respect them, and they didn't care. They decided to travel with their daughter so they could toughen her up their way.
As soon as she started walking, Rei’s father started training her. He was ‘disappointed’ her santaru abilities did not start showing right away, and when they did, they were not strong enough. Her mother was a mednin and believed that Rei should learn too since it was the only way she could be stronger. Implying she couldn't get stronger because she was a girl.
Her father trained her in lightning, water, and storm ninjutsu, while her mother taught her Medical. Day in and day out, they didn’t let her play or have any time to rest. Her mother would heal her at the end of the day, since her father believed the only way to get stronger was through fighting, and he didn’t go easy on her.
Her mother was a little more merciful but still made her train in medical ninjutsu in the evenings, no matter how bad her injuries were.
After a few years of this, moving around the country, they decided to go to the land of fire. Rei does not know their reason, but it was much warmer there. A lot more green too. They lived on the outskirts, in the cabin in the woods, this one didn’t have monsters under it though. Rei was about seven at this time, which meant they’d be sending her into the academy soon. They planned on sending her to Konoha, maybe thinking the grass was greener on the other side, but it wasn’t easy to just move in, and settle down.
During this time they left Rei alone so they could handle errands, and work on gaining citizenship. Rei was told to train during her time alone, and so she did, mostly in fear her father would be harder in the next fight.
The first few days she practiced her lightning style on trees and healed any scraps she gained while running around hitting trees. Little did she know she was being watched.
One day she was working on her kunai throwing skills, range attacks with kunai were her weakest point, so she missed most of the time. When she went to go to pick up one of her kunai it was gone, she swore it landed there.
She notices a tail holding it, right above her reach. She was shocked to see a monkey, one almost three times her own size - given she was a tiny child. But she was sure monkeys didn't get that big.
“Hey, freak gives me that kunai back or I’ll kill you!” Was the first thing that came out of Rei’s mouth. It was countered with laughter or the monkey’s version of it. Which only pissed Rei off more, She jumped into the tree the monkey was sitting in to try to punch him. He was shocked that she could even jump into the tree like that, but she wasn't that strong compared to him. So he easily threw her out of the tree.
“You gotta try harder than that.” The monkey teased then took off, Rei tried yelling out to stop him, then took off after him. She was determined to get her kunai back and punch the little [censored] in the face. She chased him for hours, never catching up, and eventually losing sight of him.
Rei didn’t care about losing the Kunai, she was more afraid of getting in trouble for it, she could care less about a stupid knife. She cared about getting her ass kicked for it though. She would get more in trouble if she wasn’t in the training ground when her parents came back, so she turned around and headed back.
“I’m not done with you yet! You better bring that Kunai back tomorrow or else!” She yelled out before she took off back home. Luckily for her, they didn’t notice one missing kunai, maybe they didn't care like she thought they did.
The next day, after Rei’s parents were gone, she went to the makeshift training ground to see if the monkey was there. She didn't see him, but she saw the kunai on the balance beam. She smirked and thought she won, when she reached for the kunai, it was suddenly pulled away before she grabbed it. Soon after she heard the stupid snickering, from that stupid monkey. He used ninja wire, she questioned how he even got ahold of it, he probably stole that too.
“Real funny,” Rei yelled then leaped into the bush to try to attack the monkey, her fist hit a huge rock instead, substitution jutsu. She winced in pain but grinned. “Oh, I’m definitely killing you, even if it takes me a few years.” She mumbled to herself, she then heard the laughter coming from a tree. She glared up at the monkey and smiled maliciously.
“For a little - uh human child you sure do look weak, despite training day in and day out.” He taunted her, and she just widened her smile.
Rei jumped up into the tree and tried hitting him again, but was almost instantly kicked out of the tree. She got up and smirked. “Is that the best you have? I take kicks like that for breakfast!” She stated and tried again. And again, and again.
Rei was fueled by anger, the more she was knocked down, the more determined she became. Thanks to her minor knowledge in medical ninjutsu she was able to keep herself from dying, or fainting for a good while.
A few hours of back and forth bickering, taunting, and kicking, Rei finally stayed down - only because she lost consciousness. When she woke up, she was in her bed, and her parents were already home. They assumed she found someone to fight and lost, which was true, partially. The fight wasn’t over in her opinion.
This same routine went on a few days, if not weeks, Rei didn’t notice she was becoming faster, and more agile. She was able to maneuver through the trees with ease, though she was so determined to get her Kunai back and punch the damn monkey in the face, she didn’t notice.
One day, she decided no more games. She was tired of this, playing like this was for weak children, she wasn’t a child, nor was she weak. This monkey was too old to be playing like this too, which made her believe he was weak. She had to end this game.
It started out like usual, the monkey would taunt her, and she would attempt to hit him. This time her fist grazed his fur, and he was shocked since he really didn’t expect her to almost hit him before she was easily knocked away, she was getting better. She went in for another punch, and he dodged, she wasn’t giving him time to counter, but he was still faster than her.
He was able to slip out of her reach, laughing and taunting her along the way, when he looked back at her, he saw her making hand seals, then a flash of bright light.
Rai sent out a santaru lightning jutsu at him, and it hit him, maybe if he wasn't too busy taunting her he would have been able to easily dodge it. He fell and hit the ground, and Rei wasted no time to rush down and grab the kunai and try to stab him with it.
Luckily he woke up to catch her arm. “Hey, that’s not fair! You can’t stab someone while their down!” He yelled out.
“There is no such thing as a fair game in this world,” Rai replied as she tried her hardest to push down.
He blinked, and then laughed, “You got me there friend, but seriously stop trying to kill me.”
Rei was too stubborn to stop, she was forced to stop when he tossed her off. She hit the ground with a thud and growled.
“You know I like you kid, I think you can become one of the strong ninja’s.” He stated wholeheartedly.
Rei, for once, stopped glaring, only for a moment, then she stood up. “Don’t mock me.” She stated, her voice cracking.
“No! I’m serious! Most just give up when I take stuff, they try but give up! But you got faster and didn’t give in! You kept up with me!” He explained, he was genuinely trying to compliment her, but her gaze didn’t soften any at all.
“Listen, kid, I want to fight besides a strong ninja, and you’re the first one I’ve actually had fun with. I can lend you my power, I can teach you to be faster, and stronger. With me, you can win any fight.” He explained, he knew she’d become a strong ninja, and if she didn't, he could just go to someone else.
Rei stared at him for a good few minutes. “I am better alone.” She stated, then turned away.
The monkey quickly stepped in front of her. “You see, if that was true, you would have gotten the kunai back the first day, “ he stated, which only made her sigh.
“You’re nothing but a stupid mo-” Rei started then she was smacked down to the ground by the monkey.
“If we’re gonna work together, you will not call me ‘stupid’, ‘monkey, or any other related names. My name is Asahi.” He stated then wiped his hands.
Rei stood and gave him another glare. “Who says I'm working with you? I said no.”
Asahi laughed “If you can beat me right here, right now, then I’ll leave you alone for good. If I win though, you become my partner. Oh and you have to call me out every real fight you have, I’m not gonna be left out.” He stated.
It didn’t take Rei long to try to punch him and get knocked down again. She wanted to prove she didn’t need anyone, but the more she fought him, the more she realized how weak she actually was. SHe knew she was weak, her parents told her every day, but she knew she needed to become stronger. She was sick of that label, it was always there being rubbed in her face.
Despite how much she fought, and how many times she tried to shock Asahi, he barely broke a sweat.
After a few hours, she was out of chakra and still trying to hit him. “Why do you want me to be your partner, surely there are stronger people out there!” Rei stated, and stopped. She was beaten, and she knew it.
Asahi pretended to think. “Well, you are young, and won't get too old anytime soon. You are way more determined than most ninja I have fought, and….” He glared at her. “You tried to kill me, so I want to annoy you to get payback.”
Rei frowned, “You -” She didn’t know what to say to him, it was a really petty reason, the annoying part. He asked for it after all, but it looked like he wouldn't go away anytime soon whether or not she decided to agree. “I think this is stupid” She stated and dusted herself off.
Asahi shrugged, he did what he wanted. Right now he wanted to help this kid out, she wouldn’t understand yet, that he felt like she could be one in a million.
“So I’ll be back tomorrow, with the contract, and you’ll need to learn the summoning jutsu in order to actually summon me. I can show you the hand seals, but that's it.” Asahi stated, then went and showed her the hand signs, then left before she could protest more.
Rei wasn’t sure how to feel, she wasn’t angry, more annoyed, but she felt a little happy as if she made a friend. She didn't want to admit that though.
The rest of her day was spent training with her santaru skills.
The next day she met with Asahi, and she signed her name in the contract book.
“Alright, you remember the hand seals right? I’ll show you one last time” Asahi explained and showed her how to use the summoning justu again. “If you need me, just do that.” He explained, but he decided to leave it to her to figure out how much chakra she needed to use.
He poofed away, back to the contract realms.
After that Rei practiced the jutsu, though she doubted she’d ever need to summon Asahi. She liked fighting him better than her father, maybe because he didn't hit as hard.
After a few months, Rei’s family finally moved into Konoha, and Rei was enrolled in the academy. She was ahead of the class, but her hot-headedness got her into many scuffles with other kids. She was too ‘rough’ in sparing, and she showed no empathy towards other kids. That ended up isolating her from others, which she was fine with.
Rei thought the other kids were weak, they could barely take a punch. It didn’t matter how many jutsu they knew, or how skilled in other areas they were. If they couldn’t take a hit, then they were useless.
Rei became a MiT after her parents insisted she became a mednin - after all that's what girls are supposed to be, the ‘support’. She wanted to become an anbu, but her father shot her down quickly, she wasn’t ‘strong’ enough to be an anbu.
Rei’s teachers felt like she would not be a good Mednin, due to her… lack of empathy and violent tendencies. She was skilled in chakra control, no doubt about that, but she probably would never make it to the top if she kept this behavior up.
Rei was one of the top students in the academy, and she was at the top for the rowdiest children too. During her MiT years… she was at the bottom. Her mentors wondered if she wasn’t doing it on purpose. She would ‘accidently’ kill the fish, instead of healing it. But she would do just enough to stay in. It took a few years before she went from below average, to average. She was skilled in the Jutsu part, she just couldn’t help but annoy her patients.
Rei was about 18 when she took her mednin exam, she was told her exam was delayed until her attitude improved. It did, eventually. She had the skills, and knowledge she needed to be a Mednin, but she had a hard time staying in the back and acting as support. It took some time to get her to even heal others. Maybe she started to warm up? But she was still bitter to anyone she didn’t like.
Once she was mednin she moved out of her parent's place, since they had no say over her anymore. She wanted to go back to her homeland but that would have to wait since Konoha needed her now. Asahi was able to tell her about her birth land, and her clan, her parents only had bitter things to say about their homeland, but she believed Asahi over them. It didn’t take Rei long to try to punch him and get knocked down again. She wanted to prove she didn’t need anyone, but the more she fought him, the more she realized how weak she actually was. SHe knew she was weak, her parents told her every day, but she knew she needed to become stronger. She was sick of that label, it was always there being rubbed in her face.
Despite how much she fought, and how many times she tried to shock Asahi, he barely broke a sweat.
After a few hours, she was out of chakra and still trying to hit him. “Why do you want me to be your partner, surely there are stronger people out there!” Rei stated, and stopped. She was beaten, and she knew it.
Asahi pretended to think. “Well, you are young, and won't get too old anytime soon. You are way more determined than most ninja I have fought, and….” He glared at her. “You tried to kill me, so I want to annoy you to get payback.”
Rei frowned, “You -” She didn’t know what to say to him, it was a really petty reason, the annoying part. He asked for it after all, but it looked like he wouldn't go away anytime soon whether or not she decided to agree. “I think this is stupid” She stated and dusted herself off.
Asahi shrugged, he did what he wanted. Right now he wanted to help this kid out, she wouldn’t understand yet, that he felt like she could be one in a million.
“So I’ll be back tomorrow, with the contract, and you’ll need to learn the summoning jutsu in order to actually summon me. I can show you the hand seals, but that's it.” Asahi stated, then went and showed her the hand signs, then left before she could protest more.
Rei wasn’t sure how to feel, she wasn’t angry, more annoyed, but she felt a little happy as if she made a friend. She didn't want to admit that though.
The rest of her day was spent training with her santaru skills.
The next day she met with Asahi, and she signed her name in the contract book.
“Alright, you remember the hand seals right? I’ll show you one last time” Asahi explained and showed her how to use the summoning justu again. “If you need me, just do that.” He explained, but he decided to leave it to her to figure out how much chakra she needed to use.
He poofed away, back to the contract realms.
After that Rei practiced the jutsu, though she doubted she’d ever need to summon Asahi. She liked fighting him better than her father, maybe because he didn't hit as hard.
After a few months, Rei’s family finally moved into Konoha, and Rei was enrolled in the academy. She was ahead of the class, but her hot-headedness got her into many scuffles with other kids. She was too ‘rough’ in sparing, and she showed no empathy towards other kids. That ended up isolating her from others, which she was fine with.
Rei thought the other kids were weak, they could barely take a punch. It didn’t matter how many jutsu they knew, or how skilled in other areas they were. If they couldn’t take a hit, then they were useless.
Rei became a MiT after her parents insisted she became a mednin - after all that's what girls are supposed to be, the ‘support’. She wanted to become an anbu, but her father shot her down quickly, she wasn’t ‘strong’ enough to be an anbu.
Rei’s teachers felt like she would not be a good Mednin, due to her… lack of empathy and violent tendencies. She was skilled in chakra control, no doubt about that, but she probably would never make it to the top if she kept this behavior up.
Rei was one of the top students in the academy, and she was at the top for the rowdiest children too. During her MiT years… she was at the bottom. Her mentors wondered if she wasn’t doing it on purpose. She would ‘accidently’ kill the fish, instead of healing it. But she would do just enough to stay in. It took a few years before she went from below average, to average. She was skilled in the Jutsu part, she just couldn’t help but annoy her patients.
Rei was about 18 when she took her mednin exam, she was told her exam was delayed until her attitude improved. It did, eventually. She had the skills, and knowledge she needed to be a Mednin, but she had a hard time staying in the back and acting as support. It took some time to get her to even heal others. Eventually, she decided to actually do what she was supposed to.
Maybe she started to warm up? But she was still bitter to anyone she didn’t like.
Once she was mednin she moved out of her parent's place, since they had no say over her anymore. She wanted to go back to her homeland but that would have to wait since Konoha needed her now. Asahi was able to tell her about her birth land, and her clan, her parents only had bitter things to say about their homeland, but she believed Asahi over them. He became her mentor and her only friend after all.
Rei wanted to help, but she hated people. She didn't really care about what happened to others, as long as it didn't affect her, or the people she cared about.
Rei worked as a mednin, but she rarely treated civilians. Her skills were better used on the ninja, she had great fieldwork skills too, she made sure she was able to stand on her own. Rei made it clear she didn't need anyone else, they needed her - most cases quite literally. She mostly referred to a squad, she didn't play well with others- but she never did anything deadly towards her comrades. Most of the time if she was angered at her team, she’d take it out on the enemy. Because of this, she was sent into the medical combat division.
Rei was able to do good in the combat division, she was able to protect those she needed, and smash skulls in at the same time. Her attitude towards people in general never changed though, but she did know what she needed to do, and she did her job well. This where she would stay for the next few years, on the battlefield, healing, and killing. It wasn't hard for her to do, heal her comrades, bring them to safety, and make sure they don't die if she wasn't protecting someone she could go all out. Most of the time she was, at least she was out in the field instead of in some odd smelling facility most of the time.</I>
