Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

Submitting for training
Maikeru had decided to take a trip to tea country, after all, it was a rare circumstance where a shinobi in the academy was allowed permission to leave the village. It wasn't something that happened often, so he decided it best to take advantage of it while he could. The country side was beautiful, and he enjoyed every sight on his journey, enjoying the deep beauty of the region. He would have to make a note to return here at some point, if for nothing else than a sight seeing trip.

"Tsubaki would have loved this.." He muttered to himself, as he came upon the city of Kurosawa.

The city itself seemed pretty standard to him, not as spectacular as Konoha, but not many places were after all. He spent a good portion of the day using spare yen he had to enjoy the local delicacies, even deciding to stop at a tea shop. This wasn't something he did often, but, when the country is literally named after something.. it's probably best to at least give it the old college try. He got a few odd looks from the patronage, and even a few longing gazes from girls his own age. This was something he was used to, after all, the Uchiha were still on the climb back it seemed. Seeing someone who wore the symbol of the clan so openly must have been a strange sight.

It wasn't until he saw the notice board that his day got.. weird. A tutor? That was an interesting proposal. Normally, mercenary work was something he was opposed to. He believed strongly in the village system. However, it was a rare opportunity to learn things from someone outside the village. A chance to learn things no other academy student would have the ability to learn, and that idea enticed him greatly. Plus, there was also the payment mentioned at the end.

He took a cursory look down at his wallet, and noticed how light it was compared to when he had started. With a sheepish grin at his irresponsibility with his money, he removed the notice from the board. Best not to give someone else a chance to take this opportunity before he could. With a sigh he stuffed it into his back pocket, and headed towards the destination that the flier had noted.

When he got there, he was confused to say the least. To him the alleyway looked empty, completely devoid of any life. He stood awkwardly a moment, before looking to the flier he had taken.

"Is.. this the right place?" He said aloud to himself.

Genjutsu training was.. difficult. After all, it wasn’t like an elemental jutsu, you couldn’t just shoot it until you got it right. No, Genjutsu required a live test subject. Someone to submit themselves to your genjutsu until you absolutely nailed it. Luckily for Maikeru, he had a very supportive family in the Uchiha clan. A clan who would do anything to make sure that they remained the most feared clan in the world.

It was an older Uchiha man who had agreed to help him, A jonin who had quite a lot of experience in genjutsu. So, as the two sat in the lotus position, he remained calm and maintained eye contact with the younger Uchiha.

“Now, Maikeru..” He started, pointing towards his eyes. “We’re a special clan. Genjutsu is quite strong for us because we don’t require hand seals, or any sort of trigger. All people need to do is look into our Sharingan and we can lock them into any illusion of our choosing. This is a very simple genjutsu. Try again.”

Maikeru grimaced. He knew the man was right, but, the Sharingan was still new to him. Even gathering up the required chakra was foreign. Still, he did as he was told. He closed his eyes, drawing his hands into the Hitsuji sign, acting as a focus for the kneading of chakra. Once he had gathered an appropriate amount, he fed it directly into his ocular nerves, feeling the sudden rush of adrenaline throughout his body.

As he opened his eyes, he noticed the familiar sensations. The world seemed.. Crisper. As if he could see the falling of every leaf in slow motion, make out every hair on the head of the man in front of him. He felt like he could see the subtle movement of his chest with each breath he took.

Locking his eyes onto the man in front of him, the single tomoe in his Sharingan spun wildly in a circle, and for a moment, he saw the man’s eyes droop slightly, as if he had been hypnotized. Suddenly, violently, the man grasped at his own eyes. The pained look lasted for just a moment, before being replaced by a small laugh.

“Yes, much, much better. It’s still a simple genjutsu, so it’s quite easy to break out of, but for someone like me whose eyes are already hyper sensitive, it can be a real annoyance. I think you’ve pretty much got it nailed.”

Maikeru smiled, before letting his Sharingan fade. It still ate up quite a bit of his chakra to maintain, and it left him out of breath. But, this was a good stepping stone. A good place to begin.

It was a lazy Sunday morning as Maikeru lay in bed, staring at his ceiling for what felt like the third hour in a row. Closing his eyes, he let out a sigh. He knew he had to get out of bed, there were things to do today after all. With a groan, he threw his sheets aside, and began the process of getting ready for the day. Fully dressed, breakfast in his stomach, and his supplies strapped to his person, he headed out the door of his modest home. He had one stop on the way to his destination, the nearby home of one Sunaku Isako.

Isako had been adopted by another Uchiha, and Maikeru had sort of viewed her as a little sister due to her age. As such, he had made it his personal responsibility to help aid her in training. It was a short walk, and he was thankful the weather was nice. The sun was out, the birds were flying around and chirping, and there was a sense of lightness to the air. It brought a smile to his face as he walked through the streets of Konoha with his hands in his pockets.

It wasn't long before he was standing at her door, knocking loudly. If there was one thing he knew, these people were heavy, HEAVY, sleepers. After a few knocks, he leaned over to look through a nearby window, seeing if the family was up and moving yet.

"ISAKO!" He yelled, knocking again. "C'MON ISAKO, IT'S TRAINING TIME. THE OTHERS ARE PROBABLY GONNA MEET US THERE AS WELL. LET'S GOOOOO SLEEPY HEAD!"

A technique which saturates the user's fist with pure electrical energy, condensing it so much that it becomes as dangerous as a live wire. Once formed, the user is able to transfer this electrical energy into a target by simply touching them, shocking them instantly.

Rank 1: Coats the user's hands or weapon in electrical energy. Their next melee attack deals +270 damage.
Master: Coats the user's hands or weapon in electrical energy. Their next melee attack deals +335 damage.

Notes:
- This does not stack, and lasts up to two rounds or until the melee attack is used.
- Once used, the damage is not dealt until the user's next melee attack. That melee attack may receive 'Lightning' buffs.

'Okay.. don't be nervous..' Maikeru repeated over and over to himself in his head as he made his way down the hallway of the first floor of Konoha's academy. 'She's just.. a jonin.. a respected member of the konoha shinobi forces. But.. she puts her pants on one leg at a time, just like you.. probably. Don't embarrass yourself.'

Maikeru had never had a private tutoring session before, at least, not one done by a leaf shinobi. There was his encounter with Maru in the tea village, but, that was more of a.. work experience type deal and hardly the same as being taught by a jonin of the leaf. He took many, many calming breaths as he made his way to the classroom, nervous as he really could be. There was a moment of hesitation as he stood at the end of the hallway, looking down the long rows of doors. He could always just not show up, claim some illness..

No, no, that wasn't an option for him. He needed to be stronger, needed to hone his craft, he had to be able to protect his friends and those he cared for. With a final sigh, he stood in front of the classroom he had thought was 120 but.. why did it say 122? Did.. had he made a mistake somewhere? The room before said 118.. and went to 122?

"I don't.." He said aloud, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "I could swore I had a class here last week.. but.. did they remodel?"

He took a look down the hallway, noting that everything seemed completely normal as far as he could see, except for this one placard. He gave it an inquisitive look, rubbing the back of his head thoughtfully. Finally, he held two fingers in front of his face folding the others down to his palm, forming half of a hand sign, using it as a way to focus his chakra. He kept his eyes closed as he felt a familiar rush of clarity and adrenaline rushing through his whole body, as he felt his optical nerves swelling with chakra, near the point of bursting.

As he slowly opened his eyes, and a single tomoe spun to life in his now red eyes, he activated his clans kekkei genkei.

"Sharingan." He muttered to no one but himself, the final part of the method he used to train himself to activate his kekkei on command.

As he looked at the placard again, he wasn't sure but.. it looked like the final '2' in 122 was flickering. Changing it's shape from a 2 to a 0. Was.. was this a genjutsu? He cocked his head to the side as his ocular kekkei genkei took in his surroundings. He was pretty sure that just from past experience this was room 120, and his Sharingan was showing him some weird things. On a whim, he decided to place a hand on the door, and walk inside. Either this was right, or he was about to embarrass himself. Damn, he had told himself not to do that.

As Maikeru spoke, he dug into a pouch on his leg, pulling out a single newly made kunai. The metal seemed unused, and seemed to shine in the mid morning sunlight as he pulled it from it's holster. He spun it around a finger a few times, before finally holding it firm in a reverse grip in the palm of his hands. He looked around to all of them, letting his Sharingan come to life as he eyed up his opponents. They had all gotten stronger, that was without a doubt the truth. The question now was, had they surpassed him? It was certainly a possibility, they all pushed themselves just as hard as he did after all. He would have to abuse his Sharingan in order to come out ahead on this one
"Now, I'm gonna throw this into the air, and when it hits the ground, the match will begin. Remember the rules. A K.O. or ring out is counted as a loss on your end. As for weapons.. try to use the blunt end Danny, I don't think a weapon that big has a sheath."

He held the kunai in front of him, before giving it a lazy toss of the wrist. The bladed weapon spun, and spun in the air, seemingly moving in slow motion as the anticipation and adrenaline began to fill his body. He had to quickly, and decisively decide who exactly was going to be the target he would go for first. Danny had that big sword of hers, but, Isako had that weird ability she had been hiding. Could it be possible that she had unlocked her clan's bloodline traits? He didn't know, and that scared him the most.

There was a slick noise as the blade dug into the ground, and the fight had begun!

Maikeru had to move fast, and move with purpose. As quickly as he could, he looked between Isako and Takumi, locking eyes with them. They were the two long range fighters after all, and the two who would cause him the most headaches in round one, especially Takumi's explosions. As he locked eyes with each one, he would unleash a minor genjutsu through his Sharingan, allowing him to bypass the need for handsigns.

Maikeru entered the room slowly, cautiously. He wasn't sure who his genjutsu tutor was, but after the stunt in the hallway, it was evident that they were already testing him. He was fine with it, encouraged it even. It was nice to see that they had taken an interest in finding out the boys skills already. As he slowly opened the door, and stepped into the classroom, the very first thing he noticed was the chalk board. Reading the message, he furrowed his brows for a second. Surely, it couldn't be that easy, could it?

That was when the genjutsu kicked in. He heard the door slammed, and instinctively reached for his kunai pouch. He spun the knife several times in his hands, before holding it in a reverse grip, facing the door as the handle slammed against his palm. To his surprise the door was still open, and more than that, there was no one in its wooden frame. How peculiar, he was sure he had heard a noise...

He let out a sigh, sliding the kunai back into it's holster. Had he been duped again? Twice in the span of a few moments, it was.. a bit embarrassing to say the least. When he turned back around, he gave a little jump, startled by the sudden appearance of the woman sitting behind her desk.

"Jeez!" He yelled, taking a defensive position for a moment, before relaxing. Apparently, this was his tutor. She was good with genjutsu, and that boded well for him at the very least. "Apolgies, ma'am, I didn't mean to be so startled. I am Uchiha Maikeru, reporting for my tutoring session."

He gave a respectful bow, before standing back up straight. He deactivated his Sharingan, as most people found it rude to have it activate while talking to an ally. The thought being that if you didn't have your Sharingan on, you couldn't use the most used trick in the Uchiha book. Ocular genjutsu. It was a special power that the Sharingan held, and one of the things that made them a very deadly clan.

"I'm sorry ma'am, but I'm not familiar with your name. My deepest apologies."

Maikeru sat there for a moment, kind of shocked at the simplicity of the class thus far. These were all things they had learned pretty much day one of the academy, after all. The chakra system, the tenketsu, these were all things that everyone besides an overly dense protagonist from a manga would know. He let out an internal sigh for a moment, before placing his pencil flat on h is notebook. Guess notes wouldn't exactly be needed yet after all. Takeshi paused for a moment, he surmised to allow some of the.. less motivated students to comprehend his words, before asking if there were any questions from the class.

Questions? What would there be to question about his statement? It was the basics of basics for a shinobi, like telling a regular person they had two arms and two legs. Well, besides those in the Hachiashi clan he supposed. The thought made him smirk a bit to himself, before forcing himself back to a neutral face. Regardless, the Hokage was probably expecting some sort of response from that monologue, so Maikeru did his best to come up with something that would satisfy the older.. Uchiha? It was hard to really pin down what clan he would consider himself now, what with this strange new body.

With a sigh, the boy raised his hand, indicating that he did indeed have a question. After a few reminders to himself to keep everything respectful, Maikeru began to speak.

"Yes, just one.. sir? Ma'am? Not sure how to address you in that body.. regardless, I do have a question." He paused for a moment, thinking just a bit harder on how to word this. "There is a technique to break the chakra gateways, isn't there? To allow yourself to overcome your bodies self imposed limits? What are the medical risk of that, and how would one treat the side effects?"

Today was a.. rare dare for Maikeru. It was a day off, a treasured, sacred day that most shinobi, let alone academy students, did not have. He had decided to sleep in, enjoying the simple act of the sun being up before he was. As the day waned on, and it reached lunch time, he looked at his wallet. It was bulging a bit, fatter from the fact that he had little to no time to spend the little money he had earned. With a smile, he grabbed it, and began to rush to his favorite udon shop, practically drooling at the thought of the warm meal.

As he walked, anticipation in every step, he saw a familiar face. The girl, who was sitting on the side of the road, seemingly lost in thought, was Kotori, the Hokage and Clan leaders daughter. As he approached the girl, he stuck a hand into his pocket, looking down at her with confusion and questions in his eyes. He was surprised she wasn't with a body guard, though, there were probably quite a few ANBU hidden around her he imagined. Giving her a soft smile, he held out a hand to her.

"Hey there, Kotori. You probably don't know me, but, I'm a clansmen of yours. Maikeru." He was pleasant in the way he spoke, keeping his voice light and positive. Like he was talking to a normal child, and not a four foot killing machine. "Why are ya sitting out here all alone on such a beautiful day, that seems just wrong. I was gonna get some udon, would you like Aniki to treat you to some? A growing girl like you can't afford to skip a meal. (286 words)

Today was a.. rare dare for Maikeru. It was a day off, a treasured, sacred day that most shinobi, let alone academy students, did not have. Maikeru was left panting after both the flurry of blows he had been receiving from Reicheru, and his own physical exertion of multiple fire ninjutsu. He was beginning to feel a pain in his left eye from continued use of both his Sharingan, and the stress of maintaining a genjutsu on Reicheru. He took a deep, calming breath, as he stood up to his full heights, once again raising his hands in an exuberant fashion. After all, he was Joker, he was here to entertain and rile the crowd.

"Friends, compatriots, and paying customers alike, I hope today's little spar gave your lives a bit more entertainment. Can we get a rouse of applause for our lovely kunoichi, the mistress of blades, the number one swordswomen in all of the leaf, the Fire tamer. The lovely, and irreplaceable, Saitou Reicheru!"

With his words the crowd went wild, people had begun to climb onto tree branches to get better views, causing leaves to fall in lazy patterns down to the two combatants, as if the crowd was showering them with confetti, a sign of a performance well done. He gave Reicheru a large smile, before giving her a large, respectful bow. A bit ostentatious in execution, but the thought was there.

"But, it is as I told you my dear, it is time for your curtain call." He turned his back to the girl, tilting his head back to look up into the sky, to watch the leaves falling in the mid afternoon skyline. "If you must fall, let it be to roaring applause! Come people, let's give her a going out to remember!"

The crowds applause become louder, and louder, causing the very trees around them to shake from the reverberations. The echoes of their approval would grow and crescendo around them, Maikeru was sure even the Anbu who were presumably watching this little fight would be deafened by it. He closed his eyes for a moment, allowing himself to take in the splendor of this moment. His Sharingan had already seen everything he needed to know this fight was over. From the pattern of her breath, to the way her tired muscles performed the jutsu and blows she threw at him. She was becoming slower, sloppier, easier to dodge.

"Now, Reicheru." He said, raising a single hand up, placing his middle finger against his thumb. "Take your final bow."

With that, he snapped his fingers. He was sure the fight was over, and he was signaling for his partner to play her part. (424 words)
