Character's Physical Description: Otami is a tall, lanky blond with two-toned eyes (right green, left blue.) She carries the appearance of an exceptionally healthy person with a, sometimes literal, glow about her. The Wildling’s skin is still sunkissed despited four years in a coma, with long flowing hair that dips just past her knees. Siding on the petite side of things naturally, the long years away have done little for her figure, but a constant diet of sugary sweets have already returned a small portion of her former weight back. Settled just over her left breast is a circular symbol of the Ryuu Clan that appeared on her shortly after waking up. It’s nature remains a complete mystery.
Her clothing varies. Ever a person who enjoyed a wide wardrobe of looks, (not unlike her father,) Otami continues to stay fairly up to date with the current “ins” of style. The one thing she has started doing though, (quite like her father,) is wear a long white labcoat modified for shinobi use. Though a firm difference between the two, is that Otami has a separate closet full of fresh lab coats; where as Tama is a man who has kept the same article of clothing since youth.
Character's Mental Description: Otami is a kind person, first and foremost. She gives an air of nobility despite a clear language impediment, and moves with the grace of a prowling wolf; often sneaking up on people accidentally. Yet beyond her forward kindness, and precious smile, is a unmistakable sadness lingering in her dual-toned irises. While her innate benevolence is true to her nature, it’s a mask. A disguise she puts up to face the rest of the world, Otami felt she had little choice once she finally woke up. Asuka was gone, her father possibly already dead, and had no desire to return to the mother who had already abandoned her. All that remained was the village that had kept her alive all these years, and the insurmountable debt owed to Konohagakure.
True to the wolves she was raised by, Otami refuses to allow the depression to strangle her out. However, the human emotions spurned by the body she inhabits threaten to draw out the well of darkness the blond continues to push down harder every day. Her comforts rely on two things: the wolf that she shares a soul with, and candy. Day by day goes while she works her hardest in the medical side of things, learning what was left behind and making strong strides in keeping up with the nursing staff; yet there is a wear on her soul visible to those who can see it.
Character History:
The Ryuu Curse. A bloodline disease based on chakra coil energy that forces the afflicted to become obsessed with something until they kill themselves; via accident, or by their own hand. The cause is unknown, and the symptoms hard to catch until it is too late. What is known is that it all stems from the father of a one, Ryuu Tama, who laid down the curse’s foundation many years ago. The only caveat, seemingly, was that those who shared actual blood with the malediction’s founder would be spared the mental disorder. That was, until the granddaughter of said founder fell under that same evil created for the extended family.
What had caused it? What was Ryuu Otami so obsessed with that it caused her hair to turn white, and health to cave? A sweet girl known to the village as a simple person who only chased after a group of friends, there was nothing dangerous in any of the studies or things she focused on. In fact, the study of martial arts was one she detested and the practice into medical was only an attempt to get closer to an absent father. Neither were fields she “obsessed” over. No, the downfall to Tama’s daughter came from a different kind of longing that she hadn’t realized was happening until it was too late.
Love. There were two boys she found herself pining after even as it made little sense for her to do so. One, the first friend she ever had. The other, a child of the wilderness that reminded her of home. When those two decided that they held more affection for each other than either did for her, the break in her mind came twofold. Otami was a Wildling, and a creature of the natural desert. She roamed with, and was raised by, wolves. The social pecking order had meant little to the wild child, which left her emotions right on her sleeve. Problem being was that she didn’t just want love from a partner - she wanted affection, period.
Her mothers affection was somewhere between indifferent and hovering. Her father’s was strange - clearly head over heels for his child but purposely kept himself at a distance for fear of influencing her. Without Otami’s consent or knowledge, her mother set up for the Hokage to accept the Wildling into the Leaf Village to get her away from Tama for the same reasons he kept his distance. So when she found two friends willing to spend time with her, play with her, train with her…it opened up a part of her soul she had not known was there. A part, she had no idea could be hurt…and when it became injured, the wound was nigh fatal.
Love is such a strong emotion that it lays down the groundwork for its own curse. Even though the hooks of the Ryuu’s illness should have skipped her entirely, the raw pain of heartbreak opened her soul up to the evil Tengokai had left behind. And, because it wasn’t supposed to affect her, it did so with three times the ferocity it had hit anyone else with the surname, Ryuu. She took a fever that could not be brought down, and eventually placed into a medical coma that kept her body from literally cooking her inside out.
The Hokage Asuka went out to find a cure, having adopted the girl as her own not even a few months before this terror befell her child. What she found was a helpless father who had a cure, but no way to get it to his progeny. Then, the would-be adopted mother also vanished within the dunes shortly after, and was never heard from again. For over four years Otami had remained comatose. Yet, in those four years an oddity was clocked - Otami was not aging.
In fact, her body seemed to do just fine without needing any food, water, reserve chakra, or any of the things people needed to live. Having been of the single bloodline that was supposed to remain unaffected by Tengokai’s curse, and yet afflicted anyways, had triggered something else inside of the once bubbly girl. A power divine, that was deep inside of her very soul had woke up at the same time the curse reared its ugly head. The medical Sennin Nao, now turned Hokage, theorized that inside of Otami two separate forms of energy were vying to control her body. One was of the little known curse that afflicted a clan of their allies, the other a mysterious energy that smacked of the righteous.
It had seemed that the very Kami themselves had laid a hand upon the teenager to spare the awful death of heartbreak, but the reality was actually far more mundane. Otami, through her lineage on her mother’s side, simply had a powerful guardian. A piece of the desert’s vast power imparted to her by a creature’s soul living deep within her own, stood up to fight back against the curse attempting to swallow the teenager whole. It kept her body in a constant state of healing, but also left her in a coma even long after Konoha had decided to unplug her from the machines they thought kept her alive.
The magnificent healing power didn’t just draw energy from nowhere. Something, was providing it, and upon further inspection via various chakra ritual and testing, Nao stumbled upon the true reason Ryuu Otami was still alive and well, unaging through the years - the spirit of a wolf. The “father”, of her mother, an old wolf named “Seven.” He was a wandering spirit of some great power, awarded by the local gods for his good deeds, the canine had ever kept a watchful eye on his daughter Okibi. When she was alone and pregnant in the desert, it was the spirit of Seven that brought her to a new wolf pack to watch her and her young. It was also he who kept Otami’s secret power from the desert’s blessing from getting out of hand all these years, and now it was he who protected her from the family curse.
No longer simply a spirit wandering the desert, he had long since Otami’s youth merged with the power within the girl and kept a quiet eye on her, Okibi, Sousuke, and most especially, Tama. Unbound as most spirits merged with a soul would be, it was via dream that Seven suggested to his daughter to move her child away from Suna. Quietly, he has played a major role in Otami’s life without anyone ever knowing. Yet the task of holding back the raw power of a Ryuu Weapon’s afflictions could only be done because of the power he was already holding back, and it was a task he was quickly tiring from. So, one more time, he reached his spirit out to touch the mind of someone he hadn’t wished to speak to in some decades.
Tama himself, of course. Seven had an old bone to pick with the mad scientist, but held his reservations back when he infected the crazed man’s dreams to implant a simple suggestion; ensure your legacy. It was an intense dream showing the ways the world could end, the way his own life could end, and how the Ryuu Clan might be one of the handful of shinobi capable of preventing any of it; some of it was true. The action caused Tama to rise up from his home in Suna and attack Kumogakure, where the Ryuu Clan in its entirety was located. Mission failed successfully, Seven had thought to himself at first, but during the journey between the two nations the loon had made a quick pit stop at a postal office.
During that quick break, Tama sent a simple letter addressed to the current Hokage, and along with it; a package. Within was two things needed to help his daughter and secure the legacy his dream demanded. The first was the curse’s cure made from his own blood to be transfused slowly via an IV. The second was a little black book made from human flesh, with pages written in blood of himself and others. There was a horribly haunting presence to the book, and just holding it made one ill. It could not be opened either, save by the chakra of someone who shared the same bloodline as the sealer; and thus, a dark mystery it remained while Otami underwent treatment.
Within the letter was another instruction - specifically for said evil book - to place it upon Otami’s chest once the entire IV had been absorbed into her body. At first, the entire thing seemed suspect and many of the nurses who had known Otami in her time awake didn’t want that evil thing anywhere near her. Yet, with the cure already having returned the color to her cheeks and hair, they decided it couldn’t hurt to try. In the very second that book of evil was laid upon the girl, two things happened. The first, and most immediate, was the dark aura that surrounded it vanished. The holy energy awakened in his daughter dispelled the resentment and terror that was poured into the penning. The second thing, was Tama’s daughter sitting straight up in bed with a gasp and a look of firm surprise plastered across her face. Her first action, was to hug that evil book tight to her chest, and weep.
Within the seal containing the evil within had been a simple message. An image of her father and an explanation of what he had left her with, and why. That little flesh-bound journal contained every last spec of research he had ever preformed, and every last sealing technique he had ever created; for ill or good. Tama’s dream image had stated that, he wasn’t sure that they would ever be able to meet again because of what he needed to do. He told her in small detail that he planned to cure the curse for good, but to do that he might have to die - and it would be more than worth it if it meant she could have a future. But to him, there was no future where his only child was asleep for eternity. So he did what any good father would do if they had the power - he cured her. The book was his research and everything about him both good and bad, but he made sure that Otami knew one thing and it was the first thing she heard coming out of that coma,
“You, are my legacy. Be proud, little wolf.”
Despite four years of comatose, her body had only atrophied a little due to the natural healing energies awakened by the event. She recalled vivid dreams of the time that had passed, stuck in a false world where she had run the desert wilds as a wolf once more. There she had come to know the godly spirit within her, but, upon awakening to the human world once more his voice drifted into the mists of her memories once more. She couldn’t even feel his presence. Knowing he had taxed himself greatly to keep the curse and her power balanced, Otami relented Seven to rest for now; but only because she had greater distractions. Getting back into shape was one thing, but what drew her even more was the journal left behind. The black book of medical secrets her father deigned to leave with her.
The contents were revolting. Within was the bloodstained actions of a man truly gone mad, and for the first time in her life she fully understood her mother’s fears. Why Tama decided to keep his distance. The whole reason behind his ill fame. It was scrawled out here, penned in his own hand with the blood of himself…and others. She could smell the intent behind each page, and it was only there that she found relief from her father’s horrible actions. For not every page written was a dark art of science to discover the secrets their bodies hid. In fact, most of it was simply trying to escape his own curse and stay alive in a world that did not want him to be.
By the time Otami had completed half of Tama’s black book, she had finished healing completely; about two weeks. The rate at which she had recovered was unprecedented, and that was counting short how her martial abilities had doubled, in strength since waking back up. All of it was due to the knowledge gifted by her father. Complete chakra coil maps. The exact location of the nerves connected to the coil, and where. Each wrinkle and fold of the brain, flattened out and explained. Through such advanced knowledge, she was able to augment her body by simply imagining a different chakra flow.
The superhuman feats that most people have to turn on, she existed with. Expanded five senses beyond what even an animal could do. Advanced knowledge of the body so acute the girl was capable of striking Tenketsu Points without aid of the Hyuuga’s vision. She could even diagnose a person simply by touching their skin, or smelling them; and cure them seemingly with a flick of her hand. Yet despite all of the wondrous gifts she had received upon exiting that dream world, reality haunted her. Heartbreak was something she had run away from, and now it was something she had to deal with.
