A long time ahead. Two years of training. That is what they decided on together. After those two years, anything can happen. They will know how to deal with it. Or not. It is obvious that one cannot prepare for every situation possible, as there are simply too man. Strength is a common answer to most problems in these times and lands though. And no matter how hard she tried to hide it from Eiji, Sayuri sure enjoyed the increase in power she gained daily. It started out with Ninjutsu training and enhancing her already advanced elemental control over fire. Fire only fears water; that versatile element fights on the Hayashi's side as well though. Soon, she was able to submit the flames entirely to her will. So she had to take it to the next level. Barely a year after her first Ninjutsu cast, she began researching advanced elements by combining basic ones. The newly created Jutsu were basically invisible, yet dealt hazardous damage to the environs she used it in. She quickly figured that she had more affinities than just the one towards fire, which might origin in her bloodline. The heaven-born wind and the dull elementless were quickly added to her armory when she realized she had those up her sleeve. Sadly, she still did not develop any connection for the water she so loved. A proxy affection perhaps, but existant nonetheless.
The first year already bore a lot of fruits, however Sayuri's learning curve was an exponential one. So the second year would hold even more to be harvested. As her second year of training in the wild commenced, the Hayashi girl quickly understood the power of restraining your opponents. As a result, she also knew that if she was to get restraint in any way a quick escape of such a bind could save her and Eiji's life. There is not always a possibility to shield yourself from all Jutsu that restrict your movement. A helping hand is often enough to free you from hostile Chakra though. Eiji and Sayuri are always together anyway, so during the latter year after sharpening their skills they also honed their teamwork. A lot of Genjutsu and a variety of tricks do not work whe facing more than one opponent. They took advantage in that.
In order to gain experience from multiple points of view in a battle, they also added sparing to their second year. First, the Forest girl learnt to understand how to quickly read enemy handseals, then she began to gain an idea what Eiji's next move would be. Thusly, even handseals hidden to her eyes were not enough to surprise her with a physical attack. She saw it coming albeit not seeing it coming! Genjutsu proved to be the only exception to her readings, as apparently it vibrates differently through the air than Nin and Taijutsu. Seeing how illusions were siginificantly harder to counter, the Sharingan user decided to further increase her expertise in Genjutsu.
Soon, a brief glimpse was enough to put Eiji in a state of horror and paranoia. While in mentioned state, he perceived pain in a higher level. An enigma yet again. Both did not understand the source of this increased ache. That was not necessary at all to know howsoever. Using it in their favour against foes is all that matters. She did not stop to increase her potency in the art of Genjutsu yet. The pain was turned into agony on the Senhyakku, becoming almost excruciating when Sayu combined it with her affinity towards fire. When combined with wind, the effect changed. Blood would flow in more excess than usual. Merely the non-elemental category did not show any added impression to the mirage.
Defense against mind tricks was still an open subject and was treated as such. A lot of time was invested into it so that the Hayashi girl could always tell what's real. The only real method she found, once a Genjutsu broke through her mental barrier, is knowing that she is caught inside one. Perhaps merely the consolation prize yet better than nothing. She would have to learn even more Genjutsu in order to know what strikes at her precisely to adjust her actions accordingly.
Another factor the Hayashi girl took into aspect was her chakra pool. It was pretty huge, but everything has an end. Only few solutions opened to her mind. One being a more efficient chakra usage. Shinobi often use more Chakra for Jutsu than they have to. It takes a lot of finesse to perfectly use the right amount to maximize a Jutsu's potential. If you use too little, the Jutsu will not unleash its desired effect. Too much would be a waste of energy. What Sayu did was trying to shoot enormous flames with less Chakra each time fired, calibrating damage and costs correspondingly.
The other approach as to how preserve as much Chakra as possible was regeneration. So, how do you make Chakra regenerate without food, sleep, and any other type of rest? A question not answered by a single day or night. A fullmoon or even two were required before the answer eventually popped up. Chakra apparently produces Chakra even if only in very small amounts. The more there is, the more it produces. With a huge pool to use, this ability came in handy. Finding all those ways to save Chakra, the girl thought about burning an enemies Chakra. She has to yet meet people that can claim they have such techniques in their arsenal. Similiarly, there are people that do not directly burn your Chakra. Instead they will try to disturb your molding process, hence increasing your Chakra output and sometimes even the time you take to cast certain Jutsu. Through proper motion and a focused mind an expert Ninja can overcome such petty disabling attempts. That is exactly what the lovely duo did.
One will not find the black hair easily distracted, giving her time to plan even while being attacked. Depending on the perspective, one may think she is simply quick to act, which is a funny half-truth. Her speed does increase slightly due to the fact of her planning rather than arbitrary reaction. This makes it easier for her to stay a step or more ahead of her enemy. Other Shinobi on her level will find that to be true even for them. Once she gained the upper hand in combat, it will prove difficult to overcome her. The longer a fight lasted, the stronger she got. That was not only due to the nature of her concentration. A lot on what she has achieved allows her to last long in battles. Why would someone let things get drawn out when they can be ended in the first ten seconds though? Giving chances to those you are trying to defeat might just cost you your life as well as those of your comrades. Think twice before sparing a life, and thrice before taking one.
From all the things she gained and learnt, this one was arguably the most valuable one... The Hayashi girl's capacity to play with others' minds using Chakra was definitely her strongest trait. Accordingly, she invested more time into it than any other field. Binds are dangerous because they allow a target to hit you freely. You cannot dodge, or even reduce the damage in any way while you cannot move. Well, then what if you cannot miss? Shooting Ninjutsu at your opponents through hands and mouth it is only natural that they will try their best to not get hit by those. It is not too hard if you see them coming at least. The brown eyed girl found a way to omit the flashy part. She shot flames at her enemies the same way she would inflict an illusion upon them. A thought alone to ignite an army, or a kingdom. A truly powerful skill that the young girl acquired even if her not so stable mentality might not be the best match for it.
The last eminent addition to her variety of skills that is worth mentioning is the focus on a single person. There might be days where she treads alone in the future. A duel is something many consider an honorable act. A fair fight where pride and more are put on the line. Sayuri only thought about life and death then. Either way, when the girl fought a single opponent, she would completely zero in on the aggressor, reading his movement even better than ever before. Unfortunately, if used against multiple opponents, her defense has to pay for it as her peripheral vision is reduced to almost nothing. The positive effect is further amplified by her Sharingan to a point where a single opponent can barely touch or dodge her attacks.
Obviously, her only opponent throughout these past two years was Eiji and his clones. Nothing was tested in a real fight. Experience on what it feels like to be on the brink of defeat. Never did she have to face a real threat after acquiring so much power. What will she do once she submitted the first person trying to endanger her life - take theirs instead? Will she know mercy? Unlikely if we look at her history, and even less if the attacker was a man. Eiji is a through and through good person while the girl he saved carries a growing darkness within her. One day the blonde may regret that he rescued this girl. One day he might just wish he would have let the desert devour her for good...
