Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Character's Physical Description :
An albino, Ao has milk-white skin, long white hair, and red eyes. On the right side of his face he has a red winestain birthmark that extended from his throat up to his right cheek. Ao is not particularly tall or muscular. He is a shade under six feet tall and very thin, gaunt, with a grim forbidding aspect and a sinister reputation. He typically wears the colors of "blood and smoke", with smoke being a dark grey that was mottled and streaked with black. Because his skin is sensitive to light, he usually goes about cloaked and hooded. The most noticeable physical attribute though are his metal arms that he occasionally disguises as normal arms with a simple transformation jutsu.

Character's Mental Description :
Ao generally displays a light-hearted, talkative, easy-going, witty, and cheeky manner, but repeatedly demonstrates a vengeful and unforgiving streak as well. Ao is slow to anger, but even slower to forgive. He thoroughly enjoys traveling so he rarely stays in one place for too long, unless he has a specific reason to stay. Ao has a tendency to babble, mixing apparent nonsense with vital information, sometimes acting erratically to put his enemies’ off-guard. He is prone to making comments that to outsiders seem obtuse or rude, sometimes to his own embarrassment. He may also do things most people think of as childish, which may be due to his lack of a real childhood, but could just as easily be a ruse to throw people off of his true intentions.

Character History:
Early Life:
Yamada Ao was born the only child to a merchant family in Kirigakure. He was the first of his family to become a shinobi, which was a great source of pride for his parents. Ao excelled during his time at the Kirigakure Academy, graduating at the age of 12 to become a Genin. All of this changed the night of his graduation when, during a celebration thrown by his parents, Ao disappeared not to be seen again until he was 19 years of age.

The Missing Years:
Ao, along with another Kirigakure Genin named Toshiyuki, were kidnapped by a mysterious group of cultists. The two boys were taken to an underground hideout where they were both experimented on by this fanatical religious cult in an attempt to resurrect what they believed to be a dead god. During this time the boys were forced to witness unspeakable acts of violence and horror. Once a week they were injected with a liquefied metallic substance that caused excruciating pain and usually ended up with both of the boys blacking out. Six years of experimentation took its toll on the boys. At first Ao began to notice the veins in his arms turn to a color similar to that of the liquid he was being injected with and Toshiyuki ‘s pupils turned a similar color. On the seventh anniversary of their kidnapping Toshiyuki’s body failed, being unable to handle the continuous injections he had received. Ao watched helplessly as the only friend he had known for the past seven years died in agony beside him . As Toshiyuki spoke his final words Ao felt a power rise up in him, a power that had been building inside of him over the past seven years. With an otherworldly roar, Ao broke free of his restraints. Whether Ao cannot truly remember the rest of the events of that night, or just chooses not to, may never be known. What is known is that a few days later, a young man with metal arms was found collapsed at the gates of the Hidden Mist village covered in blood. Ao had finally returned home.

Ao’s Return:
The joy Ao felt at the sight of the Hidden Mist gates was short lived. He was immediately rushed to the Kirigakure hospital where he was treated and examined by the Hidden Mist’s top Med-Nin. All the while under the constant supervision of Mist ANBU. He was held there for a month and was not allowed to see any visitors, or so he was told. Then one day one of the Mist’s ANBU Captains sat down beside Ao’s hospital bed and gave him the bad news. Ao’s family was gone; his father had spent the first four years after his disappearance searching day and night for Ao, but eventually gave up and drank himself to death. Ao’s mother had committed suicide two years ago, no longer able to cope with the grief of losing a son and a husband. Ao broke down, not only had he lost the last 7 years of his life but he had lost his best friend, and now his family. He had nothing. Everything he had was stripped away from him that night 8 years ago. It was at that moment that whatever guilt Ao had felt over massacring the cultist vanished. They deserved what he had done to them, and much more. The ANBU Capitan waited for Ao to calm down, and offered him a job as a member of the Hidden Mist’s ANBU. Ao quickly accepted under one condition, that he be privy to any information gathered about the cultists. The Captain accepted Ao’s terms, and so began Ao’s career as a Hidden Mist ANBU. For the next five years Ao completed mission after mission, doing whatever the Mizukage and ANBU Sennin commanded without question. All in hopes to find out anything he could about the people who stole his life and happiness away from him. Nothing ever came of it though. It seemed that finding these cultist was not important to anyone besides Ao. All of that changed though, when the snow started to fall in Kirigakure.

The Fall of Kirigakure:
Ao was on the forefront of the Mist Shinobi who were sent to find out what was causing the lands of Kirigakure to freeze over; and he was one of the first Shinobi to realize that there was nothing anyone could do to stop it. He watched as the only home he had ever known froze and fell into anarchy. Many of his fellow Shinobi left to join the other Hidden Villages, but Ao could not convince himself to do the same. After all, if he left there would be absolutely no chance that he could find out more about his captives. He made the decision to stay behind; he would help the citizens that chose to leave get to their ships and then return to help those who chose to stay behind. After Ao felt that he had done all that he could for these people he restarted his search for his former captors. Unfortunately the trail had gone cold long ago, and he found little-to-nothing that helped him. Then one day he met a man named Ichirai. Ichirai was strange man who claimed to be a monk of the "Old Ways". He was dressed in a red robe and had prayer beads that were as large as a fist that ran across his neck, each one with an elaborate carving of a fireball on them. Like many monks he was bald and had a single red dot on his forehead, but if one looked close enough they would realize that it was not a dot at all, but a fireball designed in the same manner as the ones on his prayer beads. Ichirai claimed he knew what it was that Ao sought, and that he could help Ao find what he was looking for. All Ao had to do was follow him, and learn the "Old Ways" so that they would not be forgotten. Ao accepted and became a Red Monk.

Yamada Ao, the Pale Fox:
Ichirai was a good teacher. He was patient yet firm, understanding yet unwavering in his commitment to train Ao. Ichirai also knew almost everything about Ao’s past, and even more about what the cultist had put inside of Ao. Ichirai taught Ao how to harness the powers of the being inside of him, and how to do so without losing control. Ichirai also taught Ao of the Old Ways, which focused on the importance of balance. Balance between good and evil, life and death, joy and sorrow. The Old Ways had once been a religion with a patron god, one that represented the epitome of balance. Over time though, that name was forgotten. Instead the Old Ways were now approached as a personal and spiritual philosophy, one that need to be passed on. One that was needed now more than ever. Ichirai taught Ao that he would one day become a force that would bring balance to the world. Ao could, if he so chose, bring governments that mistreated their people to its knees, or help keep balance between the Shinobi villages by assisting them against war-mongering states. Ichirai taught that Ao should always strive for peace, but not shun away from war if needed. Ichirai also taught Ao of the people who kidnapped him, who they were, what their goals were, and where he might find the remaining members. Then on Ao’s 26th birthday Ichirai gave Ao his last lesson. Ichirai revealed to Ao how he knew so much about Ao’s past and the people that kidnapped him. Ichirai was once a part of the cult, in fact he was the one who ordered Ao and Toshiyuki’s kidnapping. The only reason Ichirai was not killed by Ao the night he escaped was because Ichirai had left beforehand. Ichirai claimed a change of heart, so he dedicated the past 7 years of his own life to helping Ao. Rage boiled in Ao’s core; once again he had been lied to, misled, and played. Ichirai then presented Ao with his final test. Ao would have to kill Ichirai, though not for revenge but for balance. Whether or not Ao passed the test is known only to him. Now he walks the world alone, wearing his prayer beads and red cloak with the symbol of the Old Ways on his forehead.

Kinjutsu Application:
For three years Ao searched for answers, answers about his past, his future, and about who or what he is. For three years these answers eluded him. Helplessness consumed him, depression controlled him, but it was in those dark times that a glimmer of hope appeared. He dreamed of the night he and his friend were taken, the fear that Ao experienced that night hit him at full force. Despite the shock he first experienced he took this opportunity to really examine his memories. After months of collaboration from both the Mist ANBU units and Mist Medical Team Ao was finally able to piece together his memories to the point where they were able to pinpoint the location of the cave system he had formerly been held. Within a matter of hours Ao was sent along with an ANBU escort to the caves. Much to the team's surprise the cave had remained apparently untouched. The bodies of Ao's victims, now mostly bones, laid sprawled in a manner similar to what one would expect to see after a massacre. None of their belongings appeared to have been moved either, rotten food could still be seen on tables in several of the rooms along with many tasks had been left unfinished as well. Eventually the team came to the area where, presumably, Ao and his friend had been held. A large circular room barred from the main area by large iron gates, which looked as though someone, or something, had bent wide enough for whatever it was to get out. The sight of the bars, the room, and the two racks that had been used to hold the two boys in place brought painful memories back to Ao. His friend's face still eluded him, but the actions of the night Ao escaped came back in vivid detail. He remembered hearing a man discussing how one of the boys' bodies had rejected their god's cells, and that he was to be disposed of with the other failures. Ao watched as his friend's limp body was untied from the table, and a rage like none he had ever felt before boiled up inside of him. Ao's vision began to blur, the outer edges smeared with a hint of red, but something else happened as well. Something inside of him spoke, it was a language Ao knew he shouldn't understand but somehow he did. It was a primal tongue, no words at least not in any sense he could understand, one that conveyed emotion much more efficiently. Ao watched as his arms changed from flesh to the metal that they are now. He continued to watch as his past-self broke the bonds that held him to the elevated table, and began his slaughter. Ao was shocked by his own strength at the time, he had apparently used abilities that he thought he hadn't unlocked until recently and even some he didn't even know he could do now. At first Ao observed all of this with an almost scientific curiosity, as if he was watching another person do all of these things, but when he started to kill the unarmed and harmless women and children the reality of it all struck him like a brick. He really had done all of these horrible things, and it had been easy for him, it felt almost natural at the time. Ao snapped himself out of his daydreams and began to search the caves with a new found vigor. This time he was looking for information on what exactly these people had done to him, and the answer came in the form of a small, brown, leather bound book with a metallic-silver circle on the cover.

The book appeared to be some sort of holy text for the people that had lived in the caves. In the beginning it read like many others, sharing many aspects with most of the popular religions in the area regarding the creation of the world and its inhabitants. But that is where the similarities ended. The book then began to speak of a being without a name, which had existed before anything else. It was the one thing that had never needed to be created, because it was the very opposite of creation itself. A creature of pure, unadulterated chaos. This, thing, is older than time itself, more powerful that any god that had, or will ever exist or so the book claimed. Despite all of its apparent power though it was eventually defeated and then bound by some of the world’s original Shinobi tasked by the gods to put an end on the being's reign of terror. These Shinobi along with a powerful artifact given to them by the gods, a vial of a strange metallic liquid, were able to trap the being inside a large sphere of the same material. This globe was then split into several pieces and entrusted to both the gods and the Shinobi who had played a role in its capture. Every holder then set about ensuring that no future actions would lead to the rejoining of these parts. According to the book, if any of the pieces were to be rejoined this powerful being could regain its ability to think, communicate, and find its remaining parts. As Ao continued his readings he discovered that the cult, for lack of a better term, members had succeeded in finding one of the original parts but that was all. Nevertheless they believed that if they could find a person whose body would not reject the "Living Metal" as they referred to it, then their God of Chaos could use this person's body as a conduit to speak to his followers, or even serve as an avatar. The book did not mention an exact number regarding the number of test subjects they had gone through, but by judging on the apparent age of the book, Ao figured the number had to be high.

After Ao finished reading through the text he tucked it away into his cloak. He then rejoined the rest of his ANBU team and informed them that he found nothing of interest. After a debriefing at the Mist ANBU headquarters Ao was allowed to return to his small apartment. That night Ao could not sleep, he tossed and turned as he relived his escape from the caves the faces of all the people he had slain now burned into his memory. As he laid there, unable to sleep, something inside of him moved . It was an alien feeling, something he could not truly describe, but in that moment he knew that he was not alone in his own body. Then it spoke to him but not in the way it had on the night of the massacre, this time it used words. Words that were still foreign to Ao, but words he could somehow understand nonetheless.

"Ao..." it whispered in what seemed like one thousand different voices, "I see you have finally found me out.[b/]"

Ao sat quietly for a few minutes before he answered "Yes, I suppose I did, do you have a name?"

"I've had many boy," it answered, "I never really cared for most of them, except for maybe Azathoth, that name has a certain ring to it."

The creature spoke in a strange and relaxed manner, and Ao had been caught off-guard. After another few moments of silence Ao spoke up again.

" What do you want from me?"

It was now Azathoth's turn for a moment of silence.

"We'll get there boy, in time, for now all I want to do is give you a gift, the gift of my power."

Ao replied quickly, "A gift huh, you expect me to believe that a gift like this from you won't come without some sort of a price?"

Azathoth made a sound similar to a person chuckling, "Let's be honest with ourselves boy, you can do nothing for me. For thousands of years my 'Followers', and I say that in the least sincere tone because I never asked for them, have tried to piece me back together. And every time it seems like they make one step forward, they make two back. All I need from you boy, is to survive. One day you will die of a natural death, and when that happens I will be able to convert your body into a vessel that I can use to find the rest of my body. Until then though, I have to insure that you do not die any other way. So, like I said, all I want to do is give you some of my power. "

Silence again dominated Ao's mind for a few minutes, he was unsure of what to do next. By all accounts this creature was a dark and powerful entity, ageless and alien. Should he even consider taking this creature's power?

"Why should I trust you, aren't you some sort of God of Chaos? Why would I want to help you?"

"Mortals and their black and white morality. Look, I'm not going to sugar-coat it for you boy, I am what many would call a 'god' but I existed long before any of the others. Back in a time before time, an eternity of silence, it was beautiful. Myself and the celestial bodies was all there was. A picture perfect scene of both chaos and serenity. I can still hear the sounds of the universe, a peaceful symphony of stars dying and being reborn. Of asteroids slamming into the desolate landscapes of lifeless planets. It was a beautiful picture, and the strange part was, that it wasn't just chaos, it was peace, it wasn't just nothing, it was everything. Then they showed up, the 'gods', with their ideas and plans. They started cultivating planets and breathing life into the lifeless. It was then it began, the never-ceasing noise that life creates, it is like a high-pitched shriek to me. After countless millennia of silence I approached the 'gods' and asked them to go elsewhere. After all this was my home long before the others, and I should have a say in this after all. Do you know how they responded Ao? They laughed at me, like I was some sort of cosmic joke, they told me that the multiverse was big enough for all of us, and that I should just go deeper into the nether. Of course I did not take this very well, I may have slew a few of them on the spot in an attempt to get my point across. Which they in-turn did not take well either, they too tried to kill me, ME Ao, you cannot kill me, I am a part of this universe just as it is a part of me! I think they quickly realized this as I began to overpower them, so they instead decided to cut me a deal. They would cultivate this one planet, and in exchange they would allow me one 'day' in every 'year' to come down and wreak havoc on their creations. At first I thought this was a dreadful proposition; that was until I saw their creations. You see Ao, you mortals are sad little creatures. Unlike your 'gods' or myself you mortals did not choose to live, you were created. This, unfortunately for you all, means that not only are you significantly weaker than us, but that you also will one day cease to exist. So essentially, you mortals live to die. You are born to live a life full of despair and sadness, as you watch all of those around you wither and die so, in-turn, do you. I saw this as an opportunity to help you and your people, achieve your goal in a much quicker pace. Because you see Ao, death is your people's prize, and life is the torment that you must endure to get there. Really all of you should worship me, because I can give you all the one thing that you truly want! Not your 'gods', they created you, they cursed you all with this mortality. I am here to strip that away Ao, and that is why your 'gods' trapped me in this prison. Because I was ruining their fun by bringing your people salvation. I will be honest with you Ao. You will more than likely, not see my glorious return. It will take centuries, maybe even a millennia, for me to regain enough power so that I can find the rest of myself. Nevertheless I can give you enough of strength so that you can live well past the average human life-span. I can also give you enough power to defeat any of your foes, or protect any of your family. It really matters not to me, because I know that you will not be able to use enough power to extinguish my life-force. All I ask of you, is to let me stay, I'm not asking you to follow me or worship me. Just to let me live in this body of yours, I will be quiet, I would actually prefer that. You have a calm mind, much quieter that any of the others they tried to connect me with, and that is one of the reasons why I chose you. So Ao, what do you say?"

Ao sat in his bed for the next few hours, pondering everything Azathoth had told him. Ao couldn't decide whether or not to believe Azathoth, but ultimately decided that if Azathoth really wanted to lie to him it wouldn't say the things it had. Because as Azathoth spoke to Ao, it showed him the images of these memories. Ao could not really make sense of most of what Azathoth had shown him, but with Azathoth's guidance Ao was able to make out some of the things described at least a little.

Ao got out of his bed as the sun was rising over the horizon, the mist that blanketed the area glimmering in the light. Ao made the mental connection with Azathoth once again.

"Azathoth, you have my permission to stay, but at the first sign of trouble I will not hesitate to have you removed. I can't imagine that this fragment of you has enough power to resist the combined strength of my village. Do we have an understanding?"

"Of course child, and you would be correct in thinking that, I promise that I will not cause any trouble, unless you ask me to." Azathoth replied.

"Very well, now let me see this power of yours." And right as Ao finished his sentence he felt Azathoth's immense chakra flow through him.

'So this is how it feels to be a god,' Ao thought to himself, 'sweet.'
