New to the Academy, Kei knew he had a lot to practice if he meant to become a shinobi one day in the future. History, techniques, chakra control, jutsu. But most of all, the physical training that went with it. The agility of his own body, the strength of his own fists. The best symbol for that would be a weapon of his own. Trouble was, it was hard to figure where to start, or what he could afford (or make himself) that would be worth using. He struggled for a while to figure what type of weapon best suited him, if he dared to use a bow... if he was brave enough to use a sword and dive in to c-cut someone. Just rush in with his fists? The search was almost maddening that he tried asking everyone in his family, anyone he knew for advice. Which was part of why he dared to even bother to slip inside his father's room.... a place he'd been sworn never to enter without permission. He was always out on trips to local merchant towns, busy with business that he wasn't what you'd call the 'fighting' type. But he had to have seen lots of cool things in all those villages! Just fumbling around at first, the boy searched all around for pictures or items left tucked away without luck. As he thought he heard noises downstairs and was ready to dart back outside before he was caught, the boy tripped over a cane set near the door. And paused to look it over a moment since he saw a small button near the handle. A careful poke and it burst out to extend twice the size into a simple, yet impressive bo staff.

Kei was ready to practice however he needed now that he was training to be a shinobi, but any time he went out into the yard to practice on the small training dummy his uncle helped fashion together, or dared to hit against one of the tress out back.... it was only moments before he had to quit because his hands and knuckles got all bruised up for his efforts. Either he needed a LOT more practice, which was probably true, or he needed a little help to get some padding over his fists to keep from getting too injured. Which spawned a simple solution as he raced out to one of the local stores and searching through the selection for almost an hour before he found the perfect thing. A nice set of leather gloves that he rushed home, setting them down to make a few alterations of his own. Mostly, he took care to cut the fingers from each glove, leaving the tips of his fingers showing but most of his knuckles still covered. A few careful trims to remove any stray stitches, some flexes to help break in the new gloves, and the young boy was all set to practice!
