It has been some time since Uri managed to return to the ttaining grounds without prior agenda. That is to say, he didn't need to be here to train any of his students, watch out for training or even to sneak in at night. He could finally come as he pleases after his isolated term was over and Ibaraki-san gave his approval. Still, he wished the latter had accompanied him today. He wanted to somehow let loose, train or even as simple as spar with the few gladiators that usually roamed this area. Unfortunately, the local competition had just ended and most of the fighters were finally given time to rest and he was left with one of those rare occasions of being alone. Well, rare as it was, it didn't mean he was going to waste it.

Approaching the center of the empty arena, Uri looked around him. If fate had it and some strong-hearted individual comes in search of a similar thrill, he'd obliged. Otherwise, he found it the closest of a consolation to be there, to stand where battles were fought. Sometimes it stirred the demon inside, sometimes it gave him peace. Whatever this placeeant to Uri, he knew it was likely to be a place he wouldn't learn to hate. And so, he sat in the middle of the idle arena, watched the clouds pass by the open roof, and wondered if he was somehow a gladiator in his past life to feel this way.

Lightly she let her fingers brush over the rough stone that made up the wall of the colosseum. Then, with a jump, she landed on it and ran upwards with the help of chakra seeping through her soles. Having left behind the struggle of keeping herself attached to various surfaces, Shizuka felt free as she climbed the enormous structure. The people beneath grew smaller as she proceeded to move forward. Little shops and stands filled with food were left behind together with their smells and noises when the young Senju finally made it over the wall. Sitting on top of it, her eyes eagerly drank in the rows of seats, the emptiness across the area, and then turned toward the lone man walking up to the center of the arena.

His reddish hair seemed to be aflame beneath the burning sun rays. Something in his stance attracted her closer. Skipping rows of seats she jumped down, rushing all the way till the end of the spectators’ area. Now only the space taken by half of the arena separated the two from interacting with one another.

Blinking slowly, like a cat woken up mid-day, she studied him with her curious green eyes. Letting her feet dangle from the wall, she sat there, silently. There was nobody else around as far as she could tell, so she wondered why he was even here. Was this man waiting for an opponent who was being late? Would there be another fight?

The man surely wasn’t dressed for a fight. At least not the typical ones that went on here, as far as she knew. In all honesty, this was the first time she was visiting this place. Having never seen one of the brutal events going on here, she had always figured that it couldn’t be much worse than what happened at the academy, or outside of it.

Brushing away a lost lock of hair, the steal of the headband tied to her upper left arm shone brightly in the sun. She squeezed her eyes a little - moving out of the sun by shifting to her right. Taking out a bun with red beans, she unwrapped the snack and took a bite.

It had been a full week since Yugen had been permitted to enter Kumogakure, and a majority of that time had been spent familiarizing himself with the village. Fortunately for Yugen, having several paths that can explore simultaneously made such a daunting task a little less so. That being said he still had so much to see and learn before considering himself ‘familiar’ with the area...

All of Yugen’s sight-seeing had distracted him though, causing him to take little time to train, which was something he planned to remedy today. During his exploring Yugen had come across Kumogakure’s Vespasian Colosseum, one of the most famous sites in the entirety of the village. The mercenary had decided to train there this morning, a decision that was twofold. Not only did Yugen want to get a better look at this amazing piece of architecture, but also because he had heard that many of the Hidden Cloud’s shinobi trained there. Yugen was hoping that someone there would be willing to spar with him, it had been so long since he had trained with someone else that he feared he would be ill-prepared were a real fight to break out.

Yugen arrived to find that he, thankfully, was not alone. As he entered into the heart of the arena through the vomitorium Yugen noticed a red-headed individual near the center of the arena, and young woman sitting on the wall that separated the arena from the spectator’s seating. Yugen slowly made his way towards the center of the arena, not speaking until he was a dozen or so feet away from the red-headed man.

“Uh… Nice weather today, aye?” Yugen repeated a phrase that he had heard many times while traveling the word. It seemed that many people used it with the intentions of starting a conversation. The purple-haired mercenary just wasn’t sure if it was the best way to start a conversation that he hoped would end in a sparring match….

Uri noticed the girl who neared him, but didn’t move. When it felt as though the girl had stopped on her tracks, it was then that Uri glanced to the side to meet her eyes. She was young but her abilities proved that she wasn’t your normal child. She must have been a shinobi, or an academy student at that. Her green eyes were searching and seemingly unphased even when he looked back at her. Her curiosity had a different charm about it, but he didn’t mind. She wasn’t showing any intent of wanting to attack him or to interfere. If so, why did the girl so suddenly shown up, he wondered.

Just then, another person came into view. Uri glanced him over and watched as a man almost of his same height and age had appeared, walking closer and closer. He wasn’t sure what his intent was, seeing as today had started with the arena rather empty from most of the fighters gone home to rest after a busy competition. Still, he couldn’t hide the fact that he was somehow getting excited knowing that this could be a fateful meeting. But as the man spoke, he quickly picked up on the foreign accent. No doubt he wasn’t a native of Lightning Country, and that made Uri feel a little at edge. He couldn’t help it as his duty to the village often reminded him of policing and making sure that their village was safe. So who was this stranger?

Glancing quickly to the girl by the stands, he picked out something his pocket and threw it at her. “You seem like a student. Stay put over there,” he told her as he threw something small. If the girl ever caught it, she would be treated for a unique lollipop, chocolate mint flavoured.

Then, Uri turned his glance back to the stranger and carefully thought his response. “Today’s the same as always. But the arena should have been empty, and unless you were looking for a bit of a fight, you wouldn’t really be around here. It’s not your usual tourist spot, at least, not today when everything’s quiet and the festivities have ended.” Responding, Uri kept himself at ease and aware, ready to jump into any action. What if the stranger did ask for a fight? What then? Would he allow himself to oblige the request?

Maybe. Wasn’t that what he came for? His battle hungry heart wanted to act.

Switching her attention to the newcomer, she wondered if the redhead had been waiting for this one. Such flashy colors - her chocolate brown hair was so ordinary in comparison. Not that she felt bad about it. Shizuka’s attention was split between the colors and her snack. An incoming..something didn’t slip by, though. With a quick motion of her free hand she grabbed the little object that’s been sent flying toward her. For a moment she thought it would turn out to be a senbon or something, but it wasn’t.

A lollipop?

Twirling it around she remembered the time her mother told her not to take candy from strangers. She was long past that age now. So, without any hesitation the candy went into her pocket, and she backed off. Not because she was that worried about getting dragged into the fight, but because she didn’t want to get dirty or lose her food. A part of her thought about leaving entirely when she got to the edge of the Colosseum, but the lingering curiosity from before had her staying to spectate whatever was to come.

Making herself comfortable she tugged her feet beneath her, leaned slightly forward and enjoyed the bun. Perhaps there was something, some sort of jutsu, that she could learn from watching these. He - the man in black and white - knew she wasn’t a regular and thus neither was he. She kept her eyes on them, mentally making notes of the things she thought to be important.

Yugen watched the interaction between the red-headed shinobi and the younger shinobi at the edge of the arena with indifference. It wasn't surprising to Yugen that the older shinobi would want to keep the younger one away from a foreigner, especially when that foreigner was also a mercenary.

The younger shinobi easily caught the candy that the older one had tossed to her. Content the girl feigned leaving and instead chose to stick around while staying close to the exit. She was curious, which was something that would pay off for her in the long run, she may learn something from what was about to happen.

The red-headed shinobi then turned his full attention to Yugen. The mercenary's eyes gave him an idea of the Cloud shinobi's chakra, which he had plenty of, but there was something else to it. Maybe, if he played his cards right, he'd find out. The Kumogakure shinobi inquired as to Yugen's purpose for being here, stating that it was an odd place for the foreigner to be during the Colosseum's down-time, unless you were looking for a fight.

"Actually, I kinda was. I'd heard that some of Kumogakure's shinobi came here for practice and I was hoping I could get in on it." Yugen said with a shrug, "It's been a while since I've had the chance to indulge in a friendly spar and I've got some new moves I've been itching to try out." Yugen began to rotate his right arm in order to stretch it as he spoke. "The name is Yugen by the way; so what do you say? Wanna throw down with me?" The mercenary said with a smile on his face.

Uri appraised the man’s words. Sure enough that it would be dangerous to simply get swept into his offer, but seeing as there were no prior warning of someone forcing their way into the village recently, he should avoid jumping into conclusion that this man was someone with ill intent. In fact, he figured that perhaps by trading blows would allow him to get to know this man better. He could almost feel the chakra pulse from him and he could tell that it wasn’t like the ordinary traveler. So a foreigner in a foreign land hoping to find a fight in a coliseum sounded rather intriguing.

When the girl took his advise, Uri knew that it was somehow safe now. He didn’t want to involve her senselessly. Besides, his own fighting blood was rather eager to get into action. “Yugen, huh?” He repeated after a while, scratching the back of his neck before giving the man a courteous nod, “I’m Aoi. If you don’t mind then, I suppose I can keep you company for the time being. It is quite lonely and sad that an arena is empty, void of its usual spectacle.”

And with that, he took on a readied stance, not that he looked any different. It was just that he allow a bit of his chakra to start flowing more obviously as he stood there. There was no hint of grave seriousness on his face, nor any mischief. It was simply seemingly boyish and almost arrogant in his smile.

Yugen was delighted that he had found someone to spar with so quickly. The Cloud Shinobi before Yugen introduced himself as Aoi, and though he seemed a little skeptical of Yugen's intentions at first, he agreed rather quickly to Yugen's offer to train together. Aoi entered into a battle stance, and a slight smile spread across his face. Yugen moved back a few paces to ensure that there was enough space between the two combatants, and entered a battle stance of his own.

"Perfect, I have a good feeling about this Aoi, we are going to have a lot of fun together!"Yugen said while closing his eyes, activating his Rinnegan, before slowly opening them back up. "So, shall we begin?" The mercenary inquired, as a gleeful smile spread across his face as well.

Upon the latter's response, it was only fitting to prepare for the battle and anticipate the move. Though it may appear as though there was a sense of friendliness in their demeanor, you can't really tell until it's done. For that reason, Uri made sure to keep himself aware of any possibilities.

He returned the same smile though inside he was cautious. Even if he was eager to start the fight, he knew the appropriate timing was necessary. Suddenly attacking could be wasted. But a prolonged strategizing could also be detrimental. It was more than just simply relying on one's instinct. He licked his lips in anticipation as he slowly lowered his body as if ready to pounce at the drop of a coin.

It took a moment longer to let his eyes linger on the opponent, seemingly marking him all over, burning the very imagine into his mind. Then, at that moment, a quick glimpse of blue flame sparked within Uri’s irises before it disappeared. In that instant, Uri slipped away from sight, moving closer before coming to a stop as his chakra pulse roared from within. Upon skidding to a halt, the gathered energy rushed out like a torrential wave, bringing with it a fiery air that swept through the area in all directions, circling along the enemy in sight before blowing upwards to raise the latter off his feet as the burning air would bite against cloth and skin, far too high a temperature that could tempt to boil blood, sweat and tears. All the while, Uri’s crimson eyes did not leave Yugen, nor did his expression change as he seemed fixed and absorbed into the moment, neither in maniacal joy nor boringly serious. He was seemingly living, and his expression was one of controlled mischief.

Thus, he straightened himself as his chakra pulse continued to surge out from his body, already tempting and burdening against his muscles as he felt the registered pain course through, but he did not mind at all. Not entirely a massochist; he was simply trained to ignore pain otherwise it would be a burden to be constantly reminded by every cut or bruise during a mission asked of him. And within the same breath he held from the first wave of his chakra manipulation, he let out another wave of chakra surging to his hand before it fuses into a pin-point accurate kinetic energy that upon flinging his fingers, seemingly sent the dangerously sharp kinetic energy shooting towards the target, and running through the body to draw out blood.

It wasn’t his intention to kill, but a fight must be one of respect, and thus he knew the best was expected of him. And as he watched the opponent land, he would let his chakra pulse travel by sight and pin the man on the spot with a strange deterring force to bind him with paralyzing fear. All the while, he reigned in his seemingly roaring energy as he prepared for the next, never leaving his eyes away from Yugen.

Yugen had only just manager to summon his Kansou path when his opponent struck. A gust of impossibly hot air lifted Yugen off of his feat before slamming him to the ground. Then came another Ninjutsu based attack that, had it not been for Yugen's RInnegan he would not have been able to see. Regardless, he was unable to dodge the attack before it landed, causing a bleeding wound to appear that stretched from Yugen's shoulder down towards his navel. Just as Yugen was able to pull himself up his opponent used a binding technique on the mercenary. Yugen struggled for a moment but was ultimately able to break free. It was clear that Aoi was a very capable fight, and Yugen hoped that with the assistance from the Kansou path that he would be able to keep up.

Uri would not hold back even after the fight started. As he brushed aside the recoiling pain from his first attempt, he then proceeded to spin the chakra pulse along his hand before raising his hand as if raising the same chakra pulse to materialize in the ground before him. And just like that, a long shadowy apparition appears on the ground and making its way towards Yugen with speed. Unfortunately, it would only graze the latter. Uri quickly let his chakra wash over his body as speeding flashes of blue flames struck out like shockwaves. And in addition, he gathered his energy along his palm once more before let loose a compact light that suddenly lengthens into a stream that shoots Yugen.

At that point, the unknown helper that was materialized by Yugen not too long ago would begin its assault to Uri. Caught off-guard, Uri stepped back and tried to keep up with the launch of different attacks, but some hit through and he was pushed back. But that only egged him further into showing his abilities. Like a call to retaliate, Uri quickly spun on the ground in what seemed like an artistic dance before he found himself facing Yuzen once more, drawing in a breath before blowing his energy through his signed hands that created a crest of blue flames that dispersed into the air like blue dust before forming a misty veil that would crowd over Yugen.

The battle would soon end. It was quite the engagement. Uri had never tried fighting someone from outside the country before and this proved to have a rather interesting effect. Despite the injuries they caused, Uri saw that there was no ill-intent from the other. With the wind blowing away the debris of battle and the ushering in a new perspective, he walked towards the other and helped him up. “Not bad. We should do this sometime again. Hope you’re not dead, though.” He said as he carried the man out the coliseum and headed for the clinic. He was a frequent visitor there, often than not, doing the same thing as now, carrying a wounded sparring partner. He just hoped that the doctor wouldn’t be scolding him for doing this on a rest day.

And as he was stepping out, he paused for a momentary glance towards the open roof of the coliseum and felt the girl from earlier. She had been there all along. He would take note of her chakra pulse and her abilities. She seemed the interesting kind, so Uri would make sure to not forget her.
