Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Weapons:

Shattershard Bow
A tall bow that is cold enough to the touch to freeze the hands of most who would try to wield it. It is a pale blue in shade, looking less painted than naturally crafted out of ice. The arrows it fires are a similarly icy shade, and sharp enough to pierce nearly any armour.
Type: Projectile | Accuracy: +0 | Damage: +0% | Attribute: Bleeding | Augments: Special Composition: Ice, Razor Strike, Recovery, Blood Rack*
-Stock Augments: Swift, Siege, or Primal

Chillwind Shuriken
Pale blue shuriken so cold that they seem to be made from ice itself. The edges gleam menacingly in the light, giving them a malicious air--and they are very likely to find their target and bit into them with their frozen edges.
Type: Thrown | Accuracy: +2 | Damage: -10% | Attribute: Can use handseals while equipped | Augments: Special Composition: Ice, Razor Strike, Recovery, Blood Rack*

Combat Knife
A medium-weighted blade with a comfortable grip and a clip point. This one seems to shine a light blue in some lights rather than the silver of the blade that might otherwise be expected. It is very finely sharpened.
Type: Slashing | Accuracy: -2 | Damage: +10% | Attribute: Bleeding | Augments: Special Composition: Ice, Razor Strike, Recovery, Blood Rack*

Training ability Implacable.

"Too brittle. Ugh."

Moriko had an audience of approximately a dozen or so dune rabbits she was petsitting for varying cousins who insisted they be watched while they were at daycare and, for the slightly older ones, in lessons with the clan tutors. This despite the fact that frequently the creatures would sleep through the majority of the day, particularly when it was hottest near lunchtime.

She also preferred to sleep around lunchtime, but had been devoting her napping time towards preparing for the Academy now. She wanted to go in with some vague knowledge, even if it wasn't of chakra control. So currently, she was sitting on the floor in her living room, trying to turn her instinctive ice into armour--which seemed to be a lot harder than just using it to snap someone's wrist. A lot more surface area, for one.

Maybe the key was not focusing? She hadn't been trying to use ice to break bones. It had just happened. But how to provoke a defensive reaction as opposed to an offensive one...?

Just then, the sound of a door slamming came from outside, loud, echoing in the clan compound. Most of the rabbits started, hopping off in random directions wildly. One of those leapt at her face.

"Agh!"

...and bounced off the thin layer of ice that had formed over her, cracking it but this time, not scoring through. Another hit might, but the cold had calmed the rabbit down enough to huddle at her feet.

That had taken something out of her, too, but not chakra (since she couldn't do that yet). So not on a constant basis, maybe, but every few seconds or so, she had armour. That would likely have to do.

Moriko eyed the weapons laid out before her critically, then read the passages out of the book she'd purchased again. The weapons she had amounted to a bow, a quiver of arrows, and a number of very lightweight shuriken--all of which were favoured by her clan and thus easy to obtain. Range provided a potential measure of tactical superiority, presuming you weren't completely shut down in close quarters, so she didn't exactly object.

Besides, it was in her blood. Might as well play to your strengths.

The book described proper maintenance and handling of bows and arrows. The most difficult part was keeping the bowstring waxed and in use, as well as not 'dry firing' it, meaning not to pull and release with no arrow. She had bowstring wax procured as well and had already treated it.

Arrows were another manner: they were reusable as long as they weren't too badly damaged. It was simply that archers in fiction manga and so on were typified as people who stood still and took a long time to fire a single shot, something she found ridiculous both logistically and via knowledge from her relatives.

(It was entirely possible the reaction she might get from some ninja when moving through the ranks after graduating was, 'oh look, another Tsurara with ranged weapons.' That was fine. There was no point in trying to break tradition just for the sake of it. You had to evaluate things as they were and determine what worked for you. If that was what was traditional, well, then it was.)

The real way to use a bow in combat involved just as much movement as any other weapon. Which meant you had to be able to draw and fire in no time at all, while moving if necessary. Bows were two-handed weapons when you were actively firing them, but not when you didn't have an arrow nocked, so she'd still be able to cast ice techniques...

Moriko shut the book and set it aside, crossing the floor to pick up her bow. It was sized for her, currently; in the future she'd have to get a larger and stronger one.

But she could practice with this one. Quiver on back, bow over shoulder, draw. Train so the motion was instinctive. Then escalate to movement--not firing, of course, not off a range, that was just unsafe, but she actually had to bring the arrow to hand--

"Ouch!"

The arrow clattered to the stone floor of her front room, blood lining the offending feather that had cleared been cut too sharply when doing the fletching. Moriko was about the suck on her hand where the cut was, but instead flexed it, set down the bow, and decided to do the not stupid thing and go rinse it out with antiseptic.

By the time she'd pulled the first aid kit out from under the kitchen sink, however, the cut had iced over. She stared at it for a moment, then prodded it. The ice was rapidly melting from her body heat not to mention the ambient, and underneath was untouched skin.

Okay. That's...okay. Handy. I shouldn't rely on it, but for little things...

She didn't think this was a clan skill, so either it was peculiar to her in the family, or it was from the side no one talked about.

Well, whatever. She gathered up her weapons and headed to the clan compound's archery range, which wasn't overly long, but was large enough for her purposes. Absently she adjusted the yellow ribbon around her neck, which was relatively new. She hadn't decided if she liked it yet.

On the way she practiced drawing and sheathing while moving at a normal pace. Not the same, but better than when standing still.

Her aim while standing still was fine. Not bullseye fine, but she could always hit the general region on a likewise stationary target. While moving was harder, and she barely managed the target for the first few attempts.

After that however...after that she moved a little more smoothly, adjusted her quiver and grip, and found it easier to draw, aim, fire if she had multiple arrows drawn at once.

"Heads up!"

Moriko whirled and knocked away the incoming projectile with her off hand reflexively, back in the direction it had come from. It was only when her 'attacker' caught it that she realized who it was she'd spotted watching her earlier.

"It's creepy to stare at girls from the shadows," she told Tsukiya. "Also, I don't know how you keep getting in."

"Bad mood?" Tsukiya lifted the paper bag he was carrying and the mochi he'd tossed her in his other hand. "I wasn't aware you'd made me. But I was waiting for a good time to hop in, not just staring at a beautiful girl."

"Hm." Moriko managed noncommittal in a way she thought was admirable, though the slight smile he gave her and the sparkle of mischief in pale blue eyes said she hadn't fooled him. "And while I was running around shooting a target seemed good?"

"You'll have to take a break as it is since you've spent all your arrows and will have to gather them up," he said reasonably. "So. Possibly a snack break?"

"Can't help noticing you didn't tell me how you got in," she said, but accepted the pastry now it was handed over in a more traditional manner. "And I doubt you knew what I was doing."

"Training was a safe bet with you," Tsukiya said, not batting an eye. "And, well, while what I'd like to say is something mysterious such as, 'I have my ways,' the truth is I spoke to the person at the gate and said I was coming to see you. They let me in."

Great security. He gave a slight chuckle at the look on her face as he dug out a snack for himself.

"Also," he added, "I can be very charming." He took a bite, making her realize she had yet to do so, and led him over to a shady spot under an overhang from one of the clan buildings before dropping down and deigning it time to eat herself.

"Thanks," she said belatedly after her first bite. "You can. Um. Drop by. Whenever pretty much. I did give them your name. Since you actually told it to me in full last time."

"From an heiress that carries some weight I'd imagine," Tsukiya said, watching her closely. "I'm curious what it was I did to impress you, truthfully. Based on this and that it doesn't seem to me you're fond of many people."

Moriko debated how to phrase it so the words didn't come out wrong. "No, well, you're right. I don't. But when we met you took me seriously and didn't assume I couldn't fight because I was a pretty girl, or that I shouldn't. And you let me handle things myself that I could. I don't get that a lot--or didn't. You were the first person that was true for."

"Because everyone else focuses on 'pretty girl,' 'clan heiress,' and doesn't bother looking farther?" he asked, making her start with how quickly he'd cut to the core of it. "Hm. Yes. I can see that. I'd be aggravated too if people only saw me for my looks and bloodline."

"I like your looks fine," Moriko said thoughtlessly, and then snapped her mouth shut, feeling herself go red. He didn't press, but the smile he gave her was an echo of her own crooked one and seemed somehow much more real.

"And I yours," he said, fortunately not pressing or asking her to elaborate. He was sharp; perhaps he sensed she wouldn't be able to. "I simply don't see them as all of you. The reason you impress me had more to do with how quickly you were ready to throw down for someone you just met due to a few points of shared family misery."

She shrugged loosely, polishing off the last of her mochi.

Neither of them were mentioning, 'and you also seem to regard human lives as disposable if they inconvenience you,' but it went without saying. Finding someone who would kill others wasn't rare in Sunagakure or any ninja village; finding someone who would for personal reasons, your own age, without the clear intent to descend into cackling supervillainy was much rarer.

"I like unconventional," she said instead. "You know you're not going to get much out of watching me train, and I'm definitely doing that all afternoon. Right?"

"Ah," Tsukiya said, tilting his head so his dark blond hair fell into his face and brushing the lock away without pausing, "but if I help you, then we can both get something out of it."

"...Acceptable," she said after a moment's thought. She didn't really want him to go, after all.

And having someone to help her spot stealthed targets would be way more productive than any other more convoluted method. Maybe there was something to this 'friends' thing after all.

"Try again. It's not a throwing motion."

"I just have no idea how you're doing that," Moriko half-complained. Half, because she knew she was missing something, which was frustrating for her the rare occasions it cropped up. "Are you sure it's not just some special skill of yours?"

Tsukiya gave a light snort. "Fairly. It's just difficult to explain how to do."

"But useful," she grumbled. Projecting only the cutting edge of a blade outward, meaning you'd have a weapon to hand if anyone closed in as well, not having to throw or loose things for range? That sounded great. She wasn't hampered by it much, either; she could still use her ice techniques with only a single hand free.

Invisible ranged knives. That had just been too tempting to not try.

"How about we take a break," Tsukiya said after a pause, clearly sensing her frustration. She made an inarticulate noise that he seemed to understand, and they both headed over to flop down under the cooler shady overhang near the Tsurara family practice range.

It wasn't exactly archery, but it would do.

"If it's a knack, it's one that I can't manage," she said, aware she sounded petulant, as she passed over a water bottle. Tsukiya took a silent drink and passed it back. "How did you come up with it, anyway?"

"Experimenting a lot with knives," he said with a casual shrug. "I do rather like them, but throwing knives strike me as something that could be turned against you too easily. Not to mention..."

He pulled a butterfly knife out of his belt, where two other kinds were visible, and flicked it open and closed a few times. She watched curiously.

"It's intimidating," he explained. "But it leaves you open to being attacked in the time when it's closed. That isn't nearly so much the case if you don't have to fully open it or throw it to attack or defend."

He demonstrated by flicking the knife open again and, mid-flick, scoring a line on the distant target. Moriko was a little impressed despite herself.

"All right, but I don't get what you mean by intimidating," she said. He gave her a patient look.

"Context is important," he said, tucking the knife back into his belt. "Of course you're not intimidated
when we're sitting here talking and I'm showing off for you. If we were facing off in a tende stand-off,
that might be different." Tsukiya paused, then added, "Or maybe not. I'm not even certain you can be intimidated."

"It is beneath me to be any kind of nervous or afraid when you haven't demonstrated both intent and ability to harm me," Moriko said.

"See?" There was a slight twitch at the corner of his mouth. "For most people it's an instinct. They can't control the feeling existing--just how much and whether they display it."

"Hm." She stood and stretched, patting herself down to make sure that none of her own weapons--especially the packs of shuriken--had dislodged. "So it might be a literal mind-state thing, huh. What, are you just thinking about flinging the blade or the cutting power outward?"

"At first, yes," he said, rising as well. They proceeded back over to the range. "It came without thought after long. Try one of my knives for a moment. See if that helps."

Moriko opened her mouth, but then snapped it shut when he held out the knife he most often seemed to use for actual fighting--a well-weighted clip point. "T-thanks. Okay." The meaning wasn't exactly lost on her as she gripped it lightly in her left hand, then adjusted it. "Flick of the wrist, yeah?"

"Yes." He watched as she slashed it across the air, willing the edge outward and the target to cut. "Hm! You got it."

"I did!" She exhaled in relief and handed him his knife back, not minding when their fingers brushed. "I think I can remember what that felt with. Now it's your turn--you've got to work on your support ninjutsu before your exam, and being more efficient with them."

"Taskmaster," he said, playfully exasperated. "All right, sensei. Tell me what I'm doing wrong."

It was true that teaching someone improved your own skills, Moriko thought as she adjusted minute movements in his handseals, then started talking about chakra control in a way she was only half-paying attention to while watching him. It was also nice to have a student around who was attentive.

For that reason. And no other. Yeah.

Yeah.

Hello, I see that you're attempting to use Special Composition on a weapon as you have before but the rules on the augment state that it must be a base element. Even though being a Yuki allows you to convert Water and Wind to Ice, the augment itself would still be technically water or wind in its base form before you convert it. Can you provide an explanation of how you're auto-converting it to Ice per your dojo and outside of RP/Battle means? I've quote the augment below. :)

Effect: The user's weapon gains an elemental damage type in addition to it's normal damage type. This elemental damage type is chosen in the user's Dojo and may be changed there at any point, but must be a Base Element (Earth, Fire, Lightning, Water, Wind, Non-Elemental).

Notes:
- Damage caused by a weapon equipped with Special Composition is affected by anything which refers to either the weapon's original damage type or the elemental damage type but does not change the attack type or the accuracy type of attacks made with it (a Slashing/Fire weapon still uses Melee Accuracy and attacks made with it are still considered Taijutsu).

I have been told otherwise.

I'd update it myself on my main but in this case I'm not sure that'd be a good idea, but I've poked the other admin about it.

Upgrading my free Wind minor to a Major, and putting my free C-Rank minor into Non-Elemental.

Also, new weapon!

Combat Knife
A medium-weighted blade with a comfortable grip and a clip point. This one seems to shine a light blue in some lights rather than the silver of the blade that might otherwise be expected. It is very finely sharpened.
Type: Slashing | Accuracy: -2 | Damage: +10% | Attribute: Bleeding | Augments: Special Composition: Ice, Razor Strike

Also adding Razor Strike to both other weapons.

Finally, abilities.

Slotless: Shinobi 101 - Slashing Taijutsu with Ranged Accuracy
Slotless: Main Branch Ability - Militia
As well as Fearless and Jutsu Mastery.

Looks like the shop item has been updated, confirmed the change with admin. Everything else looks good as well - approved.

Weapons:

removing Ribbon Bow for:
Shattershard Bow
A tall bow that is cold enough to the touch to freeze the hands of most who would try to wield it. It is a pale blue in shade, looking less painted than naturally crafted out of ice. The arrows it fires are a similarly icy shade, and sharp enough to pierce nearly any armour.
Type: Projectile | Accuracy: +0 | Damage: +0% | Attribute: Bleeding | Augments: Special Composition: Ice, Razor Strike, Recovery

removing Lightweight Shuriken for:
Chillwind Shuriken
Pale blue shuriken so cold that they seem to be made from ice itself. The edges gleam menacingly in the light, giving them a malicious air--and they are very likely to find their target and bit into them with their frozen edges.
Type: Thrown | Accuracy: +2 | Damage: -10% | Attribute: Can use handseals while equipped | Augments: Special Composition: Ice, Razor Strike, Recovery

Also adding the Recovery augment to Combat Knife.

Still working on abilities.
