Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

It was an adventure that was long overdue, or so one might think. It had been quite some time since Kaji Okada and Tatsuo Ranna had ventured out from the warmth and security of the borough on the mountain in search of adventure, danger, and whatever else lay in store for them. Kaji, in particular, was the sort of man who’d build up an urge to hit the trail if he spent too long behind city walls, or nestled in the comfort of his inner-village bungalow. So from time to time, he would take a look at the village’s bingo board, which was often fit with new cases for the taking. Now that Tatsuo was living under his roof, Kaji came to expect the boy to take part in work to keep the power on and pantry stocked. As his mentor, Kaji intended on sharing the work that might prove too tough for Tatsuo to handle alone, but worthwhile for them to handle as a pair.

You should also know that Kaji was not so fond of hunting men— not the gender but the species, humans. With an oath to not stain his blade with the blood of his own kind without good reason, Kaji often chose greater challenges that might leave lesser shinobi dead. Today’s challenge, in particular, was of a gargantuan variety, stomping through the tundra of Momento Deo.

What do you know about giants? In this shinobi’s world, giantism is not so rare— in fact, it is a feature controlled famously by the Akimichi peoples of the world. However, long before the Akimichi learned to form their gigantism using the magic of chakra and jutsu, another race of massive humanoids was a force to be reckoned with in nature. Today’s bingo ticket originated from a remote mountainside hamlet known as Gidayu, which has become the repeated victim of an enormous thief. Night after night, an enormous man with skin turned shades of blue has begun to stalk into their village and take as he sees fit. The sight is so terrifying that many villagers simply hide in their homes and hope he does not choose them. Those who have encountered him only leave the slightest traces of their experience often found in bits and pieces.

“We should aim to be subtle with the villagers” the sound of Kaji Okada seemed focused as he appeared on the road, traveling along with his ally, the prodigal sprout, Tatsuo. Kaji continued, saying, “most of them are terrified of the giant and won’t be into helping us hunt it. ‘We can admit we’re here investigating on behalf of The Cloud, but too many details and they might complicate things.” The duo was marching along at the edge of the small village, which was much more deserving of the term than the mountainous metropolis they came from. Their boots were crossing at least a foot of snow, and it took nothing short of warm clothing and armor for this mission. The winter of Momento Deo was perpetual, and so the duo had to come prepared. Kaji’s hair was pinned back in a loose knot, and his nose was red from the cold. Around his neck was his deep green scarf keeping him cozy. He wore his usual leather armor over his coffee-brown pilot’s jacket, and some unremarkable trousers, colored midnight blue to break up the earth tones. As always, Eelspine hung at his waist, and the white snow gave his hilt a heavenly glow. “Maybe we’ll make a stop to grab a coffee. Let’s dig for Intel and see if we can find a trail before nightfall. We can set a trap if we can figure out where our guy usually approaches from.”

Re: The Everlasting One

Tatsuo trudged along the battered path side by side with his sensei. The boy had packed quite heavily for the trip sporting a large knapsack. He had fought his fair share of creatures for his age but a giant had been a match-up he lacked until now. Listening to Kaji as he hummed to himself a popular song from Y<3ME that he remembered from his time in Konoha. "Subtle, got it." He replied briefly. The boy was planning on letting Kaji do most of the talking anyway, normally the leader in a mission would do it anyway but out of the pair Kaji was by far the more diplomatic one. Tatsuo had already begun to think what he would do in combat against a giant, he had no issue fighting enemies of a greater stature but the sheer size of the beast might make it difficult to take down. As a gust of wind bombarded the two he pulled up his thick woolen scarf to cover his nose. Even after all the time he had spent in the Lightning Country he never grew accustomed to the cold. The village itself was better as the great mountains protected them from the chilling wind, but when he was out here in Momento Deo of all places he felt like crawling up in a ball and conserving whatever warmth he had left.

"Yea, I don't blame them. Not many people are eager to hunt a giant. Takes a special type of crazy." the boy grinned before frowning again once he realized just how cold he was. "At least we're almost there." sighing before resting a hand on his sheathed sword, White Elk. Tatsuo himself was wearing a thick white woolen scarf and a thick fur-coated leather jerkin. A long black under shirt went to his wrists, a feeble attempt to ward off the unforgiving climate. Coffee sounded lovely right about now. Pulling down his scarf for a brief moment, flashed a smile that went ear to ear, "Yeah coffee sounds good. And if the giant is anywhere near here shouldn't be too hard to track. I hear they're pretty big." he said laughing at his own bad joke.

As the duo made there way into the village they quickly became subject to many glances. The village's economy was based off a small mill and mining operation set up a few decades ago. Despite the climate, plenty of families decided to move here in pursuit of work. With it being so out of the way it was rare they had military in the village, much less two shinobi armed to the teeth. And just like all small towns, there was rarely anything to talk about so word spread quickly of the two shinobi's arrival. Packs of kids would peak at them through alleyways, young men would comment on their blades, and many of woman grew beet red at the sight of Kaji. Tatsuo actually liked the attention, it was fun to see everyone flocking around the two and he made an effort to entertain them. Puffing his chest and moving his sword to be more visible to everyone in the village he walked with Kaji until they finally stumbled upon the town's inn.

The inn was simple, but because of the general wealth of the village they had a few commodities. Including the much sought after coffee. As they entered the warm tavern, Tatsuo pulled his scarf down and made his way over to the bar. He ordered a coffee before finding a booth and placing his backpack on the inside of the seat. "I doubt this will be hard." he said as he drummed his fingers on the table while scanning the tavern, "If the giant was dangerous he'd have made quick work of the village already."

Re: Gidayu and the Everlasting One

The trek towards Gidayu’s inn was a short one, but couldn’t have ended sooner. It was still about a couple hours shy of noon, meaning they would most-likely make enough progress in the day to set up an appropriate plan for dealing with the giant. On the way to the inn, Kaji noticed a few initial signs of some of the giant’s previous visits— the bestial man was as large as the report indicated. However, it seemed that the large one was deliberately delicate towards how much damage it was leaving in its wake each night.

And so, the duo arrived at the quaint inn and had a moment’s reprieve from the unwavering elements. While having their belly-warming coffee Kaji was endlessly plotting something. When he spent the coins for their coffee, he also chased down a lead on some items he was looking for. While seated at the table with Tatsuo, Kaji began mixing a poultice using a small dagger to cut his ingredients into slivers, and a mortar and pestle to grind them into a paste. This was an easy region for acquiring ursine fat— apparently, wintry bears were common on Momento Deo. He merged the bear fat with some pedals of a ginatia flower, which was a summer flower from the lowlands Kaji brought along, dried and preserved in his herbalism kit.

“You are right, this shouldn’t be too difficult if we show up prepared for the job” Kaji replied to the lad once Tatsuo made some logical assumptions about the giant’s activity. It was true that if the giant were a dangerous oaf he would have been ripping off roofs in search of meals. “Actually, it concerns me a bit more to know that the giant is pacing itself. 'Natural arctic predators usually hunt to excess and stock up on kills so they have to venture out less…” It was worth wondering if the poultice had something to do with Kaji’s impression of the giant, but all that remained to be seen. He continued, saying: “This one’s smart. If it decimated the village in a single night it would have ended an easy food source. ‘The locals are like hens in a chicken coop, and the giant is a farmer managing the stock.”

Kaji the took a rag from his pack and coated it with the fatty oil he created. He unveiled Eelspine from its sheath and began coating the blade in the substance until the sword had a nice sheen. Kaji looked to Tatsuo and suggested he do the same. “This is called ogroid oil, and its a natural hindrance to gigantism regeneration. ‘It also works well against Akimichi, for the record. Really burns and scrambles their ability to regenerate, similarly to how Akimichi change size.”

Re: Gidayu and the Everlasting One

Tatsuo sneered as Kaji brought up the idea of the giant farming the village. It made a pit in his stomach as he thought about it, all life was incredibly important to Tatsuo. Human life especially, so the cold and calculated killing of humans made him uncomfortable and ready to fight the giant. "I really hope that's not true, but you're probably right." he said looking to the barman and imagining a giant eating him for a mid day snack. "If so we'll have to make sure we get this right in the first go, we don't need the giant getting angry and taking it out on the village."

Tatsuo was sipping on his coffee as Kaji began to explain the importance of being prepared. He usually prepared his own reagents to help him fight monsters, but a giant was something he never faced so he had no idea what would work against them. Though he listened with a dutiful curiosity as Kaji began to explain what the mix did. He had a certain interest in alchemy, as far as it would help him slay monsters at the least. After Kaji was finish coating the edge of Eelspine, Tatsuo took the rag and gave it a sniff. His nose scrunched up and he gave sneezed into his arm. "Nasty stuff." he commented as he took the rag and rubbed it up against his blade, coating it with a thick serving of the Anti-Giant-Oil. "I'll keep that in mind if i'm ever in a fight with an Akimichi." he nodded and rested his blade on the table as he sipped from his coffee. It did a good job of warming him up, especially after the frigid cold they earlier faced.

As much as Tatsuo wanted to stay in that tavern until he could feel his toes again, he looked to Kaji and asked, "So when are we heading out? I don't think giants are nocturnal. But we could definitely spend some more time here, in the warm.." he said as he finished off the last of his coffee." Hoping to appeal to Kaji but realizing it was most likely in vain.

Re: Gidayu and the Everlasting One

Despite the comfort they were provided by the hamlet’s humble tavern, Kaji didn’t intend on a long stay or even putting down some coins for a room. “Nothing more than a short rest to bring the feeling back to my toes” answered Kaji. “Whether the giant hunts during the day or not, we do need to follow the trail while time is on our side. If the snowfall picks up we’ll lose any tracks along the way. Nightfall will also just make any clues harder to find, of course.” Kaji then lifted his mug and tilted it back until he finished its content. Eelspine was returned to its scabbard, and his kit contents were put away neatly. “Let’s move.”

And so the adventuring duo set out to begin the most challenging part of their mission: the hunt. The sun was still high and the hamlet of Gidayu was still stirring with villager’s doing a day’s work. Kaji led the effort of what looked like simple wandering around town, but that didn’t last long. They came upon a large fenced-in stable where two local men were making repairs to a huge gap which was clearly obliterated by a brute force. “Tough times— what do you think could have done something like this?” Kaji curiously engaged the duo, all the meanwhile eyeing the fence itself. Mentally recreating the scene, Kaji figured the giant might have kicked it down, but the shapes of the broken board scattered in the snow suggested that the giant used some kind of weapon with a low swing, and minimal force, like a careless swat.
“Yer’ telling me ya haven’t heard about the big footed basterd making meals out of our town?” The first of the farmer pair was a bit older and crotchety; most-likely the patriarch of his little farming operation. The younger male accompanying him continued working while the older one turned around to speak to the visiting shinobi, but he chimed in, saying “how couldn’t they know, pa? Half the town is looking to move to the lowlands come spring, if we all survive that long.”
“Ah it’s a mess, it is” continued the older one with a discouraged sigh. “Damn thing has already hit me three damn times… he’s eatin’ all my goats. Blue basterd!” The elder shook his fist towards the forest, and his son merely shook his head and continued hammering new planks into a rough cross-section board.

There was clearly more knowledge to be mined from these farmers, but preoccupation with their fence meant less willingness to be helpful. Kaji looked to Tatsuo, wondering if the lad might aid them with his abilities instinctually, ask them, or wait for Kaji to request it. “Well, allow my friend here to give you a hand. That’s Tatsuo Ranna, the Prodigal Sprout— he can fix your fence, good as new.” Kaji introduced Tatsuo like a salesman and stepped aside to give the boy just a bit of space to work. “Allow him to handle your fence, but do tell us more about that giant, please.”

“With pleasure” answered the farmer’s son, who moved aside and pushed his nervous father. They then got to their fisherman’s tale, though it was mostly accurate. “Not a lot of us have gotten to set eyes on ‘em cuz when he comes there’s always a fog. But for me and Pa— we saw him up close from the window. He’s a biiiiig fella, and blue as the Sea of Cirrus. Tall as a building, with legs as thick as tree trunks. He carries a huge ax, and was covered in pelts, bones, and—” the son was suddenly cut off as the father said: faces! The big basterd had more faces than the four of us put together!”

“Ah, I see” Kaji replied with a grim visage. “Sounds mortifying. Any idea where the thing is coming from? We are just game hunting on the mountain, and we’re looking to avoid such a nightmare.”
“I was wondering what two cloak and dagger types like yourselves were doing in Gidayu…” answered the elder. “That’s right, you’d better stay far away from ‘em! We’re all hoping the thing just goes into a hibernation or moves on when spring comes. If we upset ‘em, he might just come down from the peaks and paint Gidayu red!”
“We’d do no such thing” Kaji answered, though his intentions hadn’t wavered in the slightest. Once Tatsuo was finished with the fence their work in town was finished, and the pair would set off for Gidayu’s Cairn, which was further up the mountainside.

Tatsuo had just gotten comfortable as Kaji stated the intention to get going. He could finally feel his fingers again and was in pure bliss in the tavern, but it was all interrupted as Kaji began to leave. While Tatsuo agreed with everything Kaji said it wouldn't unfreeze his toes. Grumbling as he packed up his stuff and reequipping his sword he followed Kaji outside of the tavern. "Yeah yeah.. Could've at least waited for me to get some pie." his complaining was short lived as he placed his scarf back over his face muffling any would be complaints.

He furrowed his brows as he looked to the utterly decimated fence, there weren't many things that could do that and one of them happened to be a giant. No matter how dense he was even he could put two and two together. "I bet it was the giant." He scanned over the pair of farmers and listened as they complained about their plight. Tatsuo was more than pleased to be praised by Kaji and once the men gave him the go ahead to begin he took a deep breath stepping forward. He listened to the most part for what the group had to say but Tatsuo had to concentrate while making the fence. It was easy for him to make a crude structure that would do the job but he assumed they'd want a nice looking fence which would take a bit longer and a lot more chakra control. After placing his hands on the ground and infusing it with his natural chakra, small tendrils would begin to poke through the snow. Thick logs about three feet apart, after they grew to the point of their chests, smaller wooden poles began to grow between the large logs. Creating a strong, sturdy, and aesthetically pleasing fence.

After concentrating on the fence he forgot most of what was going on with the fellows and Kaji he tried to figure out what else they were speaking about. When they explained that they should stay away from it, Tatsuo said "What do you mean we're going to hu--- uh.. ha-- her.. avoid.. it right, Nakeo?" he said looking to Kaji giving him a fake name under pressure. Tatsuo rubbed the back of his neck and grinned at the fellows, "Sorry i'm denser than a log." Had he not already been red from the cold he would've been blushing like a tomato.

The two men looked to Tatsuo like he was either stupid or crazy, they weren't far off but it didn't make it any better. The father glanced to his son and rotated a finger around his head as if to say 'Crazy'. "

"WELP! We better get going Dakeo! I mean Nakeo!" he said marching off into the snow not even waiting to see if Kaji followed. After the two finally arrived out of ear shot the boy began to laugh, "So which name do you prefer, Dakeo or Nakeo?" As Tatsuo matured, he hadn't really learned to stop saying stupid stuff. It just came to him he couldn't help it, but at least he got to the point where he was able to laugh at himself. "I prefer Nakeo personally."

Having their fence repaired to a state even better than what they had before placed the farmers in an amiable mood. Between what they had planned for the giant and the repairs Tatsuo made, it seemed as if the duo of shinobi were going to do a bit of good for that solemn mountain town. However, with their need for information fulfilled, Kaji Okada and Tatsuo Ranna departed from the meager village on the path towards the cairn.

Kaji caught up to Tatsuo shortly, and their trekked resumed as intended. Humoring their previous deception, Tatsuo sought Kaji’s preference on aliases, but Kaji merely shrugged absentmindedly. “Eh, I don’t care. If you are undecided just mix ‘em together or something,” he barely stewed over the thought. Nadeko… Though, the name is rather feminine.”

And so their journey spun around the mountain on a steady incline, getting steeper as they went until their trek required some wall-running with shinobi techniques. The wind blasted against the rock face in an unyielding current, lifting their cloaks and chilling them in all the worst places. But as they climbed with hands and feet clinging by chakra, Kaji followed large gashes created in the stone. Upon closer inspection, they were grooved, most-likely used repeatedly by their gigantic prey whenever he scaled the cliff. The two hunters were clearly on the right track.

But that certainly wasn’t the last clue they’d find. Upon reaching the top of the tall cliffside, Kaji looked over the snowy edge only to be startled as he met the face of a long-dead human corpse. Dead eyes were nearly preserved by the cold in a freezer effect as less than half of a human torso with the head and one arm, no hand, laid face up in the snow. Kaji almost regurgitated his breakfast, and almost lost his grip on the sturdy rock with his reaction. “We have another clue” Kaji warned, whispering his words to Tatsuo, though the howling wind made it difficult to hear at this altitude. The sensei then scrambled over the edge kept a knelt posture near the cliff’s edge. Finding a body not covered in snow meant that it must have been relatively fresh. Considering that the giant probably hauled it all the way up to the cairn, it meant that the creature might have still been using it as a snack while admiring the view. Who’d have thought giants understood ideas like aesthetic values.

The horizontal cliff’s edge of Gidayu’s cairn was a wide, flat stage overlooking a vast view of Momento Deo whenever the weather was clear. The namesake of the cairn was a monument to the rear of the cliff, which consisted of numerous boulders all pinned to the ground in a unique design. There was an old story about the place, but it was mostly known by locals, not the likes of Kaji and Tatsuo. Here, there was no dense shroud of forestry to hide the menacing things which crept in the shadows. At this altitude, only the wind, tall chunks of hard stone, and blinding sleet, which was only light snowfall at the moment but destined to get worst.

Tatsuo laughed under his scarf as Kaji chose Nadeko, "A bit robotic if you ask me, but if that's what you like Nadeko." he grinned as they trudged through the frozen country side. He was happy to be able to help the farmers, even if he made a fool of himself. Leaving marks upon the country side was something he always wanted to do. But he had greater ambition than just creating fences for devastated farmers.

His stomach almost came up as he saw the dead body, no matter how many fights he would get in, seeing the dead always set the boy at ease. As he made his way over the cliff he shook his head and placed his hands on the ground. Soon enough wooden tendrils would wrap around the body making sort of a coffin as it sunk back into the earth. "Everyone deserves a proper burial, I can't imagine going out like that." he spoke mostly to himself but loud enough for Kaji to hear. Whatever fear the boy had about the giant was now erased, he wasn't quick to scare but there was always a sense of doubt in his mind. But after seeing something that would tear a human apart so merciless it reinvigorated his will to fight. After he finished burying the corpse he looked to Kaji and said "Let's continue." he said solemnly, it was if a flip went off in his head. He was focused and ready for whatever the two may face, despite him laughing and joking just moments earlier.

When they finally reached the cliff Tatsuo was bombarded by the strong winds of the Momento Deo. He looked to Kaji and said "Don't go near the edge sensei. Wood Style: Great Forest Barrier!" With a quick formation of handseals and a powerful slap on the ground a giant forest grew from the edges of the cliff side, creating a barrier from the strong winds barraging them at every side. Since the last time Kaji and he had trained the boy had gained a newfound mastery over his chakra control and was now able to shoot off small forests of this size with relative ease. Quite the contrast of when they first started training and he struggled to create a simple branch.

In the moments Tatsuo spent molding the grave, Kaji advanced his inspection of the open memorial that was Gidayu’s Cairn. The snow lining the ground was as thick here as it was anywhere else on the mountain. He manifested a ball of green flames in one hand while holding a one-handed seal with the other. The warmth felt incredible and defrosted the ice accumulated on his garments, head of hair, and five o’clock shadow. With two more hand seals, Kaji progressed his jutsu and flung a burst of flame just short of the ground in a wide flare. It was a precise maneuver which began melting the snow to reveal bits of bone and blackened organic matter scattered about. The stench of it all awoke his nostrils with the foul odor running rampant. It appeared as if the blue giant had eaten there a number times.

Among all these clues, Kaji spotted footprints not yet melted by his defrosting method. Each track was large enough to stand in and presented the imprint of bare, six-toed left foot, and just five toes on the right. The commotion of Tatsuo raising trees from the ground came with loud crackling and ripping sounds as the mountain gave way for his creations. The action was done with good intentions, however Kaji saw it more as a liability than an aid to their efforts. Without a fire affinity to keep his internal temperature more moderated, Tatsuo must have been fairing much more poorly in the cold than his sensei. “That much more of a reason to hurry and be done with this” Kaji thought, becoming more worrisome for the lad. Agreeing on the need to carry on, Tatsuo left his patch of tall trees alone and following along with Kaji into a forked path where the massive mountain split into two peaks. On the left was a short hill, while the right carried upwards for miles: after all, this was the largest mountain in the known world.

“He isn’t far” Kaji whispered, suspecting that the giant probably made a home out of some crevice created by the split in the mountainside. Applying his hunter training, Kaji slowed his pace and listened to the surroundings. The crunch of their boots in the hard snow must have been audible from some distance away on such a quiet mountainside. Nothing short of quieted footfalls would do, moving forward. “Get ready for one hell of a fight,” Kaji said to his young pal, trying to temper his own excitement in lieu of a rare battle against a real challenge. He then brought forth Eelspine, and the first sign of the imminent battle came to pass. Visibility began to lessen as a white mist started low above the icy floor, and gradually arose around them.

Then came the first boom. A heavy sound made the ground shake ever so slightly, and a stalactite fell from a curved shelf of ice above twenty feet them. Then another boom, and more after that— the heavy footfalls which foretold the coming of their Gigantic enemy.

While Kaji was able to face the brunt of the cold using the assistance of his Fire Jutsu, other than Tatsuo's bright Will of Fire he lacked any such affinity. The wooden barrier of trees was like a godsend, instantly the winds died down and they were able to focus on the task at hand. "I'm fine though, Kaji-sensei. Don't worry I just--" he rubbed his hands together and blew them into them. "It's just a bit cold."Grabbing at his sword he grunted at the sight of another dead body, he realized they were closed before Kaji said so. The giant steps were a giving tell but the boy sighed as he realized they still had miles to go. Despite getting closer with every spot, he realized there were still so many miles to go.

Despite all of time waiting for the fight to actually begin, he was beginning to get excited. But unlike his sensei he didn't try to temper his anger instead he used it as motivation to get ready for fighting. Slapping his hands together in a 'Snake' seal, wood began to sprout out from him covering him in a large barrier of vines, wood, and thorns . "Ready when you are, Kaji-sensei." When the earth began to shake he slammed his hand into the ground creating somewhat of a platform for the pair, that way they would have a balanced ground to fight on not having to worry about snow shifting. The wood wrapped around to the hilt of his sword that way he could keep a hold on the blade, despite all of his armor.
