"Come on, Kuro. We gotta do this now. It's a test of our strength as new shinobi," an excited Yasei told his canine companion while metaphorically bouncing from wall to wall, "it'll make us stronger, physically and mentally." Kuro, a young black Shiba, looked slightly anxious of what his master desired for them to do; he didn't really know if he liked the idea of braving the harsh valleys of The Spine of the World. The disgruntled whine accompanied with a bark of protest came from Kuro in response to this. The young Inuzuka knelt down to console him about it, "Kuro, we're Genin now and...well....we've gotta prove that we're much more than just any average Genin, right? Even Hito went on his pilgrimage for a contract not too long ago. Don't you want to see what we can find on this adventure? We'd even become much stronger for it!"
Kuro seemed slightly convinced at this point and a little more willing to do it. The young dog affectionately nuzzled against Yasei's arm in agreement with what he had said. Now, all they had to do was gather some equipment and be ready to take on this massive adventure.
Having recently become a Genin, this behemoth of a task seemed quite overwhelming; he had been a student for so long but now he was a fully fledged Shinobi. This had to be a suitable way of testing his strength in Yasei's opinion. Junko-sensei had
demonstrated the use of summoning contracts in his last class, telling him about the requirements, all of the jutsu involved and how one actually seals such a bond with the animal in question.
Armed with all the knowledge he felt he needed, Yasei set out with Kuro, his little 'brother', to gather some camping equipment, rations and a surplus of water for them both.
The Spine of the World was a whole host of all manners of animals and creatures in their own civilisations. Yasei wanted to find one with whom he could break a deal, to be able to have their aid in combat whenever he had need, and to do this he was planning on camping up their and hunting for other animals in the snow.
Kuro was getting tense as they gathered supplies, wondering if they were even capable of surviving out there in the world without the protection of the village, but they had to do it at some point.
Some time later, Yasei had gathered everything they needed in a backpack, having blown away what little he had in his savings into pulling all of this equipment and food together that they would need. Kuro looked up at the Inuzuka, still looking quite worried, "Kuro...if we don't do this, we'll just stand still, we'll never again have this kind of motivation to get stronger..." Yasei told him, kneeling down to pet his fur in order to calm him down.
The young dog seemed taken in, however small those words were and had seemingly found the motivation. Two happy barks were given in swift response before they were able to finally set off.
Many hours had since passed since the Inuzuka duo had departed from the village gates and found themselves out in the snow, The Spine of the World looming over the two as they took refuge in the valley, having found a small lull in the side of the mountain, sort of like a small cave. The first few hours were spent by the two sleeping in the tent that had been set up before a lot of time had gone by. A small rumble resounded around the cave before a loud scurrying sound became known to the two who had swiftly awoken from their slumber. The sound resembled the frantic pitter-patter of tiny paws, hitting the cave floor, like an animal running or playing. Exiting the tent, Yasei found nothing in the immediate vicinity but there was one conclusion he came to, "Kuro....I think it's time we go hunting," the beastly boy told his familiar who nodded in unison with him, coming to the same final conclusion.
A few mangled tress stood hard by, leading more into the valley as if something big had come through the area. Both boy and dog spent what must have felt like hours in the snow, tracing many confusing scents had looking for paw prints as an indication of anything come through the area. Yasei was determined to find something and even catch the source of the scurrying from much earlier. A piece of meat was in his hand, meant for the two of them to survive on until they could get back to the tent.
More minutes turned into hours as they went on, losing sight of their camp site as they descended into the snow, not even aware of the avalanche risk that loomed over them. "K-Kuro....I can't remember how to find the t-tent again" he said, between shivers which was mirrored by the young dog. Kuro looked down, as if ready to bury himself in the snow already.
Yasei had lost the tent and lost hope, clearly having underestimated the task they faced.
