<Outside of the Village>
Blood Organs of Demonic Ogres splattered across the ground, the winds howled in the ears and heavy breathing as the final sword swing came and went as the head of this group's leader fell to the ground with a loud *Dunk!* He took a knee, and caught his breath and as he looked across the high hills by the mountainside he only saw dead bodies, strewn out across the landscape, from the corner of his eye he noticed his trusty friend was cleaning her teeth with her paws. She noticed he was looking and stopped and gleamed back with a satisfied glee. Her fur was bloodied, not her own, thankfully. It was a grueling sight to behold by anyone who would care wonder these barren areas. But the only places here was abandoned castles and households, taken hold by these Blood Parasites, attempting to take hold of all the living beings in the world.
He sighed and looked at side side where the Soul bound blade, created by his companion in ancient times. His predecessor a giant one-eyed ogre he still had the head of, preserved in the vault his sensei had abandoned and left under his care. He remembered the words that had been spoken to him by the creature of old.
It was still odd to conceive how such an event came to transpire out of wanting to meditate and find peace, and all he found was more trouble, war brewing and armies amassing against the people of Lightning Country. He avoided telling anyone of it. He didn't even report his findings to the Raikage. Not yet anyway, he needed conclusive evidence. He had concluded that even if he arrived at the Raikage's doorstep with Soul-bound blade, demon hound and Decapitated head of an ogre they wouldn't give proper acknowledgement of the threat, not unless he could find the place where they were amassing these so called armies their lieutenants so happily spoke of whenever they were the only ones remaining after a slaughter by the 'Dreaded Warrior' as they were apparently calling him now.
"Hey, did this one give you any new info?" The Demon Dog, eternally bound to his soul echoed in his heart and mind. "There wasn't much, but he did mention something about another group further into the mountains, I think it should be worth a look", "Wonderful, how about the provisions?" she said as she started walking towards her companion, "It should be alright, we should be able to make it there and back to the village." He had begun wiping his sword as she approached and began to lick her fur, only to get icky as she felt the disgusting taste of the Blood Demon gore. Spitting it out again, he couldn't help but comment with a light tone "If you don't like, wait until we go to one of the streams deeper in" *Blargh!* "Yeah, good call.." She quieted as they each holstered their weapons, and made their way back to the camp to rest, and pack up.
After a short breakfast they packed up their baggage made of small tarps and blankets, pots and pans, a packet of smokes (You never know when you'll need one), a small locket of hair from his cousin back home, and a rolled up photography of him and his little brother. Quietly packing them up in his rucksack they began walking further towards the nearby mountain pass.
They had been tracking the group they just took out for almost fourteen moons and almost given up hope until they found their encampment and finally took them out in one of the cleanest swoops they'd ever pulled off in unison. His new student awaited at home, and so did his young cousin, he didn't like leaving them behind and in the dark of what traversities and danger he's putting himself through, but as long as they remained Genin and in training, he didn't wat to put them through the danger. He feared what might happen would a human ever become infested with these blood creatures. Even he sometimes forget him and his companion remained unmolested by the parasites, perhaps they had developed an immunity? He couldn't know for sure until he would be able to catch a live specimen. But so far whenever they killed the host, the parasite evaporated into thin air. As long as he sliced and diced them with his sword that is. He remembered that back at the Castle he once traversed through and came upon his companion he had tried to stab them with his Kunai and only momentarily had stopped them.
"Y'know Keiji, we should get like a name for this group, something that will wreck fear into their hearts!" She asked as they had begun their walk across the hills towards the mountain pass. Their travel would take about 2 days time and at that point they should have at least caught their scent if their intel was any good. "A name? But we already have 'Dreaded Warrior' ! Do you want them to add 'And with his pet poodle?"
No actual word was actually spoken verbally as their communication was primarily done through their soul and mind due to their eternal connection established through a lover's kiss.. She was pretty in her human form.. Okay?
"Pet Poodle?!" Her feelings were that of anger and frustration. "Oh relax honey, I'm only joking.. 'The Dreaded Band' Sound any better to you? We can let a few run rampant through their ranks if we can capture one alone from the rest.", "Much better, but still it sets you as the leader! I have my fair share of skills too and deserve acknowledgement, if just a little bit!", A warm feeling echoed in his heart as he responded "I completely agree darling, and should I ever depart, I expect you to take charge!", "Ha! If you ever depart you can bet your scrawny ass I'll be coming along, I'm not staying around for another one to take your place.." They each stayed silent for a moment, both out of awkwardness and because of the landscape being a little extra steep, as they neared the mountain and the landscape kept being higher and higher altitude.
"But you can give away one of our pups if it ever gets to that.." His eyes widened as her words slowly seethed in. "Pu-puppies? Are you serious?" "Yeah, I know they are on their way, there's still time though, so don't get hasty!" Her fur fizzled and raised as Keiji's smile grew wide from ear to ear, a tear escaping his left eye which he promptly removed just as he felt it encroach on his eye lid. "Let's get these beasts removed then!" He screamed as he pointed forward towards the glaring mountain pass looming ahead of them. With renewed energy, and hastened steps, he kept silent and began walking faster and faster. They both knew each other was happy and they didn't feel the need to a further a conversation as they both felt each of each other’s deep positivity.
In between the two looming mountains they walk through a narrow pass where at least ten people could walk side by side, perfect for having battles such as the legendary folk tale of the hundreds versus thousands.. And then winning.. A steep upwards path made the view difficult, it was near impossible to see beyond the top, his breathing was difficult as the air was cold and thick. Fog had been setting in the pass for the last few weeks, it was a perfect cover for an ambush he thought to himself as he readied to pull out his blade which locked in a leather harness strapped to his back. As the top of the path was approaching he leaned down and started slowly crawling on the ground to hopefully be able to catch a glimpse of who or what awaited them beyond the cold fog.
As he reached the top, the air was so thick he could almost taste it, he had a difficulty in taking deep breathes. The height of the landscape wasn't the most comfortable but as he peered ahead with his byakugan activated, in the far distance through the fog he couldn't spot anything remotely alive.. "Damn these Demons.. Did he lie to me?" .. "Wouldn't have been the first tim-" "Wait!" he stopped her in mid sentence as he spotted a yellow flame of chakra, a signature hard not to associate with the dangerous Blood Parasites inside of the Ogres. "I see.." He squinted his eyes as he continued staring. Suddenly another light appeared, glowing like a lantern at midnight, and sparkling like a star, another, and another appeared in the distance. He started counting, getting up to 9, and then more appeared, continuing to grow steadily in numbers he stopped counting and instead slowly pulled out his sword from his back and readied himself..
The beasts was still several hundred meters ahead, but it was unnerving as the numbers kept steadily increasing. "They are coming this way.." He commented as his eyes remained dead ahead. "How many?" she asked with a strange sense of glee. Silence, he didn't reply as he had started counting again but stopped when he reached twenty-four.
"Alot.." "Yeah, those big furry things? What abo-"
"No, a.. Lot.." "Ah okay.. Makes more sense." "I'm seeing at least over twenty.. So get ready, they are steadily approaching us, this way." "Okay, so what's the plan?"
"Take them head on?" "That would be insane, and you know it." She held her arms across and pouted as his full attention remained straight ahead at the growing number of demons marching towards them. "There's gotta be a at least over a hundred.." He commented as he licked his lips in excitement.
Rolling her eyes she huffed in a slight joking manner "Y'know. Those mountainsides look rather steep"
He glanced upwards at the huge mountain sides, they were leaning inwards, they looked.. Fragile to him. Like all it needed was the smallest push the whole pass would be ruined. He remembered what the pass lead to.. Nothing but old and abandoned buildings and castles. Perfect hiding spot for entire armies. He wouldn't be surprised if it was where the blood demons resided.
After analyzing the mountain sides for a few seconds more, he crawled back down and stood up in front of Hitomi in her human form. "You know what to do." She nodded in silence as he handed her his shoulder bag. "I'll keep them busy." He stood silently as she walked over the corner of the ground to the mountain sides, still hiding from the army coming closer for every second that passed.
Keiji, now with a plan in mind pulled out the Giant Blade from the leather strap behind his back, and began walking steadily to the top of the hill to look down at the marching army condemning them to quick death by his hands. Their eyes pierced ahead as they saw him rising up on the hill som screamed wildly at him, presumably they knew whom he was, or had heard of him. Even though they didn't seem all that intelligent they definitely seemed to share rumors.
"Your march ends here!" Keiji shouted at them as he pointed the giant soulforged blade at them, holding it up with one arm straight at them.
"Gnnaarrghh! Dread man die!" Was about the only words he heard clearly from the frantic screaming as they all began running towards him up the hill. Now distracted, Hitomi began crawling up the mountainside to initiate the plan. Quickly as they took their first steps on the hill, he pulled out small spikes from his pockets, infused them with lightning chakra and then threw them at the feet of the blood infected ogres, and every time they stepped on them barefooted a lightning spike jolted their body so strongly they were lying on the ground convulsing in pain and screams. With a smirk he infused the same chakra in the blade he held so proudly as he began swinging it with pin point precision towards the ogres, slicing in between the armor pieces they wore, and when missed the critical spots, the sheer force of the blade pushing against their armor threw them into each other. Their numbers kept growing it seemed almost endless, it seemed like they were slowly swarming him, and it became increasingly difficult to keep swinging the sword. Resorting to release massive jutsus right in between groups of ogres to open up the area around him, firing of lightning jolts as he blocked attacks.
"Done!" Hitomi shouted down as she jumped down to support her companion in the middle of the fray. At the time Keiji had gotten cut on several places, placing several around his arm and legs, nothing deadly. But his breathing had gotten deep and rough. Realizing this, she concluded within a matter of seconds "We need to get going! Do it!" Without thinking too much Keiji threw a smoke bomb at the ground confusing the ogres, then pulled out two Kunai from his belt, imbued it chakra. And while his eyes remained active looked for the small notes Hitomi had placed on the mountain sides and threw a kunai at each side. And then making their escape from the fray. Several blows came after them as they began running, dodging the massive hammers and cleavers being thrown at them. But it was too late. They were too far in the center of the area and as the explosion notes went off everyone looked up. Massive chunks of rock and snow began falling, a rock and snow lavigne was started, roars of snow raging snow began rolling down the mountainside towards the pass and within seconds the whole pass was a gory mess of ogres being squished from left and right, the massive army was gone, maybe a few stragglers had made it away. But the whole scene was silent, except for pained groaning and moaning.
It was white, with a few spot of dark red spots here and there. It felt like weeks had passed, although it was more realistically several hours to an entire day. His right foot twitched, it was free. His left hand caressed a piece of rock, it hurt when he twitched it the wrong direction. His mouth tasted like ash, like he had been lying above a flame and all the smog had filled his lungs. Couldn't breath without it hurting. Groaning he said.. "Hi-hitomi?" Without knowing of her fate. "Hitomi?!" Screaming as much as his lungs could handle, it made him cough and as he tried to move his other limbs he couldn't feel her presence. A muffled voice was heard from above, whatever above was in this case, he couldn't tell. "Dread man scream!" It could only be an Ogre. he thought. "Dread man dream!" It screamed. He felt a poke of something sharp on his foot, it hurt, Keiji couldn't help but scream helplessly. It stopped though. The pain and the metal in his foot was pulled back. There was nothing but silence. A warm and familiar sensation echoed in his heart and soul. "Y'know you could hear that scream of yours from the other province if I wasn't so close.." "You're alright!" "Of course I'm alright. I ain't killed as easily as you are. Good to feel you breathing again.. We need to get you out there.. I'll start moving the rocks. Let me know if anything hurts while I'm moving them around.." "Alright, take your time.." He coughed again. "I ain't going anywhere.."
After almost an hour Keiji felt the moonlight hit his skin and he could finally breath fresh air again. His left leg was broken, one of his lungs may have collapsed, both ams were badly bruised. The worst part though, was that he couldn't see. His nose was crushed and the area around his eyes was cut and badly damaged.
He fixed what he could with the help of Hitomi and the medical equipment he had taken with him. Wrapping his arm in his sleeves to keep them up, his walking was boosted by Hitomi and his nose was repaired with what he could manage. But his eyes. His eyes was broken. His entire bloodline powers was rendered useless without his eyesight.
The operation was a success. The march was ended, the ogres was hindered this time around. But how many bastions did the hold in the country? He didn't know. How many ogres did he kill? At least hundreds he assumed. He had the scars to prove it too. But he didn't want to worry people. He didn't want others to know the horrors he had witnessed. Not yet. He couldn't risk the chaos it might bring. This time it was showing though, he needs more people. More to get involved, he needed to keep the village strong if ever these beasts reached more power. And if ever they became common knowledge, who would they turn to? They cannot be killed with normal weapons. Chakra and soulforged weaponry was the only solution to keep them down for good. That or getting crushed by massive rocks and snow. Or so he hoped.
