Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

Unassuming in stature and appearance, Rei has the benefit of being able to blend into a crowd given her average presentation. Extensive travel for work lends itself to a minimalistic approach to her wardrobe, and since immigrating to Kumogakure the Fire Country native has taken to wearing heavier layers - jacket, scarf, boots - which conceal an overly toned physique sculpted from countless combat and training hours. Her dark brown hair has been cropped into a shorter boyish cut and often falls into her face and in front of her steel-grey eyes, set in pale white skin that is often dried out from the frigid mountain climate and general lack of a healthy diet or sleep schedule.

Distinctive Traits: A scar below her right eye serves as a reminder of her tenure in Konohagakure's Frost war, amongst others that are hidden by her clothing. A burn mark in the shape of an ouroboros resides just below her collar bone, a physical manifestation of the Mark of the King [see Abomination]. When wielding her Ancestral Weapon, Sofu Ken, her eyes take on a violet-purple hue.​

PERSONALITY
Idealism in a shinobi is a recipe for disaster, and that's more or less what we've got in Saitou Rei. She is a woman who feels deeply and cares intensely, and has been punished for these traits in the repeated loss of those she cared for most. This has produced a jaded mentality toward shinobi villages and a more isolated lifestyle as a protection to her fragile heart. Her strong will has been tested, broken, and mended repeatedly, leaving her afraid of almost nothing - even when perhaps she should be. Intelligent, passionate, and capable, Rei would serve well on any team she works with as a leader or subordinate. Daily she is torn by two natures; one that has given up hope and is prone to day drinking and reckless combat choices, and another that demands another step forward toward the ideals of her youth to leave the next generation with. The current crossroads she finds herself at may well be the determining factor to see which of the two will win out for the time being.​

The first-born and only child of Saitou Gorou and Nanjirou Akane, Reicheru wanted for nothing in terms of affection in her first ten years of life. Finding love in her parents and companionship in her cousin, Nanjirou Hiroshi who was her same age, the young girl would have seemed to be set up for an easy life, were it not for the occupation of her parents. Shinobi of Konohagakure, the hazards of such a lifestyle were well-known to even the most sheltered children in the village. Yet Reicheru could not fathom following any other path, even when prodded by aunts and uncles (her father's siblings, of course) to consider a future in literally anything else - shopkeeping, a ramen shop, or going to school for tech development - the last of which had admittedly always been an interest to young Rei, who loved to tinker. Still, when she came to the age of being able to apply to the academy, she did so quickly and with her family's blessing. Her acceptance was a shock to no one; not that she would be the most advanced in her class by any means, but she certainly had the same natural ability that flowed so effortlessly from her Jounin mother. And of course, it helps to have a father on the inside; Gorou was a Chuunin and teacher at the Academy.

"So dad, do you think you'll be my sensei?"
A soft chuckle. "I doubt it, they can't make it that easy for me to have favorites now can they? So no, probably not officially. I'd like to think there's quite a lot I can teach you outside of the academy, though!" he said feigning indignance, ruffling his daughter's dark mop of hair that mirrored his own. They walked home together, his mini-me shadow-boxing with excitement the whole way.


When she began classes was the first time she met her mother's parents; Reicheru had asked before why they never came by, but her parents always skirted the issue. They came to congratulate Rei on her acceptance, and assure her that her Nanjirou blood would ensure that she would catch on very quickly. It was a comment that made Akane's jaw tighten, which Reicheru didn't understand considering the obvious high regard with which her mother held their Nanjirou ancestry. But again, when she asked, Akane and Gorou brushed it off, told her she was reading too much into it.

And then she began! Her first few weeks as an official academy student went smoothly enough; she excelled in her sparring, weapons and history classes, and her ninjutsu was beginning to come along. Genjutsu proved to be a struggle, but it was a challenge Reicheru was excited to meet. It was during one of these classes that a meeting was called at the academy. Such interruptions were not unusual, be it developments at the gate causing a lock-down or to announce a change of teaching staff, typical due to… occupational hazards. But this time, they called the students together to ask if any of them had any information on a certain boy from the academy. Reicheru knew of him - he was one of her father's students, a trouble-maker that everyone, even some of the adults, said had no business training to be a shinobi. She didn’t know why exactly, only that her father disagreed and had spent a great deal of time and energy investing in the boy and hoping that one day, he would see his own potential and be able to show it to those who doubted him. Turns out, that morning the boy had drugged one of the guards at the gate and gone missing. Gorou had gone after him.

Days turned into weeks, and the strength with which her mother assured Reicheru that these types of missions are typical and that her father would be back in no time began to fade. Akane had requested to go on the retrieval mission to locate her husband and the boy, but had been denied as an ANBU team working on a mission in the suspected area had already been alerted. As news spread, Rei learned more about the boy - an orphan being raised by an older cousin, with no obvious talent as a ninja and an even worse attitude. There were some vicious rumors that he had killed his parents, but these were likely spread by kids who had lost to him in play-ground brawls. It didn’t sound at all like the kid her dad talked about; Gorou saw a boy fighting desperately to be seen, to have his existence validated in any way he could. He saw a fighter, a survivor who had what it took to make it in his dream. And survive he did.

"What about Gorou?"
Two ANBU came by the house late, and had informed Akane that the boy had been returned to the village safely.
"But what about Gorou?" The ANBU began to explain a situation involving a gang, and a run-in in the forest after Gorou had found the boy and was bringing him home. As they talked, a third ANBU with a black katana and green, beaked mask ran in behind them. Uncle Daisuke. He pushed his way through the other two, and put a quivering hand out to touch his sister's should, but stopped just short before letting his hand fall.
"Akane… I'm so sorry…"


Reicheru had never seen her mother cry, not ever, until that day.

The following weeks were a blur. The ANBU team had been able to recover Gorou's body, which he had used to shield the boy he had gone so far to protect and bring home, and so they had a proper burial, laying him to rest alongside two of his brothers. Things were quiet at the academy, and once again the announcement was made of a change in staff. The day the run-away boy returned to class, classrooms were buzzing with whispers and sideways glances. When classes dismissed and everyone headed home, someone bumped Reicheru, knocking her books out of her arms. As Rei moved to pick them up and the student paused and turned, they met eyes - it was the run-away boy. Frozen for only a moment, he quickly turned and walked home. Her cousin Hiroshi had been walking toward them and saw it happen.

"That ungrateful…! Someone ought to teach him some manners! I mean, that boy….!"
"He's got a name, you know!" Reicheru almost yelled.
"Okay then, what is it?" Hiroshi shot back defensively, as if asking whose side she was on. Reicheru stammered and then turned away flushed when she realized she didn't remember. Hiroshi softened. "It's alright. I mean, it's not, but…" He stopped while helping get the rest of Reicheru's things, and then suggested they go sit for awhile on the city's cliff-side.

After sitting in silence for some time, he started, "Your dad knew his name. Your dad knew that everyone had potential, that everyone deserved a chance…" As he said this, he pulled the worn red scarf from his neck and put it around Reicheru. She put a hand up in protest, "Your dad gave this to you…" "No actually, your dad did." Her cousin interrupted, eliciting a confused stare. "Dad just told me about it, the night we buried Uncle Gorou. Apparently the winter when I was two, I got really sick; and rather than helping my body recover, my immune system began attacking itself. My dad was convinced I wouldn't make it. Your dad came over, stayed up with me so that my parents could sleep. When I shivered, he wrapped his scarf around me, kept whispering to me that I was stronger than this. It took awhile, but I recovered, and Uncle Gorou told my parents to keep the scarf as a reminder to never give up on anyone, even when it seems bleakest." Reicheru held one end of the scarf, and Hiroshi smiled. "It looks good on you. So does your dad's attitude. You may not remember that boy's name, but you defended him when bitterness would be totally excusable. Your dad would be proud."


As they looked out at the crumbling carvings of past Hokage in the cliff-side, Reicheru's reason for wanting to become a great shinobi and her motivation at the academy shifted markedly from simply wanting to be like her parents, to being rooted in a belief she inherited from her father: that each member of this village was her family, each one equally deserving love and protection. And she would protect them with her life, not if but when the time came.

Description: A carbon steel katana with a 'jewel steel' core, tempered to give it a violet hue in the sunlight. The hilt lacks a traditional wrap, instead boasting textured rubber and an elongated tsuba to protect an oddly modern trigger built into the handle of the sword. The angled pommel is hollowed and full of various spring-loaded mechanics activated by the trigger. Sofu Ken serves as the home to its forger's spirit, a protective and benevolent soul whose chakra signature embedded into the blade serves to enhance the defensive abilities of the weilder, though only Rei has been known to utilize this to the fullest potential, both weilder and blade sharing a wind chakra affinity.

Origin: Forged by Stone shinobi Nanjirou Hayate as a thought experiment, the sword was a departure from the blades typically brandished by the traditionalist Nanjirou clan. Hayate believed that as technology advanced, so too would their need to adapt traditional kenjutsu. He wanted the hilt to have as much versatility as the blade, anything from storing ninja wire to using sealing the blade within itself. He passed away before his vision could be realized, but as the passion project of his lifetime his soul bonded to the sword. Saitou Rei, his great-granddaughter, would inherit the sword shortly before graduating from the Konoha Shinobi Academy, linking their spirits together.

The Mark of the King, The King's Mark or The Marked: The sign of one who has had lived through a near-death experience with a high ranking or powerful "monster" usually a "King" or a "Queen". Typically manifesting itself via a physical mark like one might have at birth, the mark can also be observed as a psychological terror-like state that one is rendered in when overtaken by such a "monster". It isn't known if the mark is transferred via chakra or some other force but those who have them are never quite the same from that point onward. They are left with altered dispositions, night and day terrors, and more times than not, the ability to on some levels tap into powers that only "monsters" can display. It has been proven that on some levels those with the mark can somewhat understand the "monster".

Powers: When tapping into these abilities Rei's body mutates to become larger, exposing muscle but gaining the ability to coat itself in bone and crystal-like 'armor'. Her senses and abilities are heightened in this state, increasing speed, stamina, and strength, but proportionally at the cost of large amounts of chakra and increased psychological effects.

Mind Overflow
Skilled illusionists who prefers to dominate their foes through the power of Genjutsu. Overlapping and controlling simultaneous illusions on a person's mind to force their own body to unconsciously follow the illusion, mentally straining themselves and rendering them more vulnerable to the illusions.

Prerequisites: C-Rank, Must have mastered 5 Genjutsu

Effect: Targets effected with the user's Genjutsu take +10% damage from all damage types.
Ancient Wisdom - <I>General Contract Ability
While many contracts are reclusive and rarely show themselves to the outside world, do not make the mistake of assuming them to be unworldly; many contract beasts live lives far longer than humans, and with this age comes experience. Experience that can benefit those who heed its advice.

Effect:
- While the contract is present in battle, its allies gain a bonus based on its custom class 'High' stat(s); this bonus is +1 Acc/Dodge/DC/Save and +5% Damage dealt with it. These bonuses do not apply towards caps.
- Example; the contract with this ability having Nin Acc and Gen DC in high would grant its allies +1 to Nin Acc/Nin Dodge/Gen DC/Gen Save, and +5% Ninjutsu/Genjutsu damage.
Mount - General Contract Ability
Some beasts are built in such a way that they are just perfect to ride upon. A contract owner gifted with such a summon can very much ride their partner into battle, at the cost of it being easier for targets to keep track of both of them.

Effect:
- The contract may allow a single target to ride upon it. Both Contract and the ally attempting to ride it must spend 1 AP to begin riding.
- The contract will take damage from attacks directed at it as normal, but will also take damage equal to half the damage dealt to the rider from an attack.
- Non-illusory attacks directed at the rider will user whichever is higher; the contract's dodge or the rider's dodge. Regardless of which is used, it will gain a +3 Dodge bonus.
- Anyone in battle aware of either the contract or the rider is automatically aware of the other as well.
Avian Grace - Bird Contract Ability
Birds have long been a symbol of sky. Like a fish to water, they glide through air with a grace other animals only dream of, beyond the reach of their ground-bound peers.

Effect:
User can fly. At the cost of 1 AP they may choose to inflict the airborne status to themselves and subsequently may end any effect which forcibly inflicts the airborne status (including this one) for the same cost.
Keen Sight - Bird Contract Independent Special Move
Being able to spot prey from skies requires acute vision beyond the senses of others. Few can escape the sharp vision of a bird of prey.

Effect: For 1.5 Ap, the contract focuses its vision on a single target; this contract ignores any penalties from Terrain and Visibility modifiers when making awareness checks against this target. Reusing this special move will shift the user's focus from one target to another, and using it on a target they are unaware of will reroll the awareness check.
Nevermore - Bird Contract Senjutsu
With a melodic screech, the contract summons forth a murder of black birds to their aid. Their overpowering presence blots out light from the sky, and they instantaneously know who to attack, and do so without hesitation in order to protect their kin.

Effect: Calls forth a swarm of birds; upon use and at the start of each round maintained, all enemies that the contract is aware of make 5 checks against the flock, each failed check dealing 700 damage and reducing the victim's secondary stats by .5 for the round. The amount of checks made decrease by 1 each round, until this jutsu is dispersed.

Cost: 3 AP, 1800 Cp, 900 Cp/Rnd

Note:
- Lasts 5 rounds.
- Jutsu subtype is chosen when the contract creature is designed; determining its accuracy and damage type.
- Once dispersed, there is a full round of cooldown before it may be recast.
