How exactly was she capable of being so old despite the fact she looked like fourteen at most? That was a very valid question to ask and one that made Keiko wonder deeply for a bit. It wasn’t an easy something to explain, and most people likely wouldn’t be able to believe her. In the end who would believe her if she told them she had died once before? Still the girl’s hesitation to tell her secret was slowly being overwhelmed by the thought of having an opportunity to see her mother again. As the shadows cloaked her the girl would visibly be surrounded by a faint red aura, the darkness seemingly incapable of consuming it but it did serve to perfectly disguise them and continue their conversation undisturbed. Several light steps followed when the girl’s eyes softened a little and despite the innocent smile on her lips it felt as if there was a certain sense of sorrow in the words that followed, sorrow that was likely produced by the events that surrounded what she was about to tell.
“The rules of the human civilization don’t apply to Keiko anymore. Because Keiko is no human anymore.”
For a moment she paused when suddenly without any warning she tried to make several small jumps, not exactly putting in any attempt to jump high but in fact reach Souji’s head to grab a hold of him and pull him sideways toward her chest. She doubted she would succeed, but it would make explaining so much easier for when his ear rested against her chest he would notice the girl seemed to lack a heartbeat.
“Keiko died once… But Keiko struggled a lot to return. You see, Keiko met an oneechan, pretty but scary oneechan who works for Jashin-niichan. Keiko was rewarded for playing their game and was brought back. Keiko is kind of alive, but also kind of not alive.”
The bloody games they played in the crimson realm, one of the many playgrounds of the bloody deity Jashin. It was there she also met ‘her’. After a moment the girl continued her explanation, the cheerfulness in her tone slowly returned.
“Keiko is kind of like a ghoul. A really cute ghoul who doesn’t munch brains nor has Keiko’s limbs rotting off Keiko. That would be kind of scary… But there’s also Oni-neechan. Keiko is being protected by Oni-neechan, a Youkai and a friend of Tsu-mama! She’s the one who helps Keiko fight if something scary happens.”
Nodding her head firmly the girl finally released her potential hold on Souji and taking a step backwards seemed to be smiling even more brightly when their conversation returned to the subject of her mother.
“Keiko isn’t sure. Keiko can sense Mito-mama’s chakra… It makes Keiko feel like Mito-mama is calling Keiko. But Keiko also has a present from Tsu-mama that has the same chakra, so that Keiko never feels alone.”
But after that the girl’s eyes sharpened into a more serious expression.
“Keiko suspects Kage-niichan is hesitant to show where Mito-mama is because of Iwagakure’s laws. Keiko doesn’t like the result of Mito-mama’s legacy… Mito-mama likely wouldn’t have wanted to see the village become so close-minded. Isn’t it the user instead of the power that decides if something is good or evil? That is why Keiko desires to observe the village, to find out if the ones leading the village are able to open their mind to such things.”
And now the girl became quiet, seemingly thinking deeply.
“Mito-mama disappeared… What means Mito-mama died, and yet Mito-mama’s presence is around you. Therefore Keiko can only conclude that Kage-niichan is a Shinigami or…”
Oh boy, she was onto you like a Tsuyuri onto yuri…
