Minoru's request had gone through well, so he thought. The clan leader that sat before him in the blackened room seemed to entertain the idea for a short while before answering, but only without his own set of rules. Truth was, Minoru needed a cover for his now chosen ANBU livelihood. He certainly could not roam the streets midday with his mask and cloak, hiding from any and all personal contact. No, he had to do something else to throw off the scent of what he was truly doing if there was any, and with his chosen hobbies and talents, science was the way to go. A lab would allow him to increase his village's effectiveness in all things including military. And so, he patiently awaited an answer from the Overlord, and the miniscule wait time was well worth it.
"That is an interesting idea, where do you want to establish this lab? I will gladly help you with that. In return, I only request that I will have free access to your facilities and that I am the first to know every time you reach a breakthrough."
Minoru pondered his leader's request. Initially, it seemed fair. He would gift Minoru with a lab to do his bidding, and the hand that fed him would also like connections to the rewards of feeding another. As far as location, it did not matter. Hell, to Minoru, it could be public. Not in the sense that anyone could enter and leave, but that others could join in and work there. However, the young AiT decided it would be best to leave that up to the man that built it. As far as his request to access and knowledge of any breakthroughs, well that was perfectly fine with Minoru, it was only fair.
"That seems fair to me. You will have full access and should anything interesting be discovered, you will be the first to know. The location, well I will leave that up to you. I personally do not care. I also do not care if others join me. That I will also leave up to you."
The clan leader digested the young man's words, and moved on to more modern and pressing matters, his current job.
"And as for the reason I brought you here. Your acceptance is acknowledged. And your evaluation begins right now. We ANBU have to tackle many different subjects. Espionage and Intelligence Gathering is but one of them. I have three tasks for you. The first one is related to espionage. You are ordered to spy on a certain individual and learn everything there is to know about him. Then you will have to give me a detailed profile of everything you learned. I want that profile in my hands in one week. Fail to deliver it in that time and you will fail this task. This mission is a secret one, no one else, beside us, is to know of this. You cannot get caught doing it or you will fail and we will deny everything. Do you understand?"
Minoru nodded intensively, fully aware of the price at stake and what needed to be accomplished. Failure was never an option regardless. Although, now was a critical time to succeed. So far, it did not seem so bad. He figured he would probably spy on some mealy low life no one really cared about, and it would be a cake walk. Key word: thought.
"You are to spy on the Medical Sennin, Hasegawa Mana."
Oh, fuck.
Well, that was surprising. A Medical Sennin...THE Medical Sennin. Odds are, this person, whom he never met officially, would not be a cake walk. There was a reason he, or she, was chosen as Sennin, due to being the best. Not only besting most other shinobi, but all medical shinobi. A slow, but quiet sense of anxiety fell over him, but he pushed past it. Minoru just thought he might as well get it over with, and not put the Sennin on a pedestal.
"You are dismissed."
Minoru rose to his feet, looked at his leader's face, gazing into his eyes.
"Very well, I shall return with my task completed. Good day to you."
And so, he left the blackened room, and went straight to his own to plan his methods and attack to spy not on some criminal scum, but the most skilled medical shinobi in all the village...Hasegawa Mana.
