A Dinner of Fate Under the Stars
Spring, Year 14
Evening
Under the guise of night, the stars were in full view. Vibrant as ever, blossoming through the night sky as beacons of pure energy, he laid there, laying on his back on a patch of grass. While It was beautiful as ever, not to mention relaxing, he found comfort in staring after a long day of preparation and training. Perhaps It was his last. After that eventful evening with Izumai, he had accepted his proposal, to venture to Mount Yamabiko and challenge the daiyokai, Masuda to battle. Most would be afraid, If not horrified at the prospect, but not him. It brought him solace of all things. Finally, for once in his life, he would be given the opportunity to challenge himself, not only to prove himself as a capable warrior, one worthy of redemption, but one worthy to be the heir of his clan. For too long, he sat in the shadows as a pathetic weakling who couldn't even save him, but not any longer. He would either emerge victorious against this great and ancient threat....or die the weakling he was always meant to be. A fitting to be sure, at least to someone like him, for even If he would die, he would at least reclaim his honor upon death. Staring up the stars, he momentarily closed his eyes. That day was soon encroaching yet he was ready. Days of preparation, weeks of final training, It all prepared him for this final moment. Amongst the solace he found in the challenge, he also found himself with a smile for the first time since his capture by the bandits all those years ago. He had almost forgotten the feeling, If that was even possible. Opening his lids once again, his crimson eyes peered at the shooting star that raced across his vision, as If determined to escape his sight. He could feel the weight on his shoulders disappearing. It felt good, even If he still had regrets. To give his beloved final words were amongst the top. To tell her he loved her, that she was always in his thoughts were words he wanted to say. Just to see her face one last time would be sufficient but atlas, life was cruel, even If his precious Shizu wasn't. Instead, their reunion would have to wait until after he remerged victorious, and If he didn't, having fallen in battle, well....he always knew he would be in her thoughts always, such was the pain of meeting the one you would consider your soul mate, the individual that not only understood you, but one that completed you. Such heavy thoughts wanted his mind to make a vow to return to his beloved, no matter what It took, but again, he couldn't do that on a good conscience. Rather, all he could do was make a promise to himself to try his absolute hardest to survive, but such a promise for another day. Forcing himself to his side, he closed his eyes. That promise, one that would most likely be his last, was for another day....
