Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Entering the prison like city that was the Golden Sanctuary had not been the difficulty for someone that carried the weight of Medusa's reputation as Suna's leading Underground criminal. No, the issue was that criminals that operated within Suna were considered to be of a slightly lower caliber to some of the more unsavory members that ran their business through the large merchant city. The red haired woman could get by on certain merits, pulling favors and whispering half-hearted promises to those that decided to try their hand at taking the woman on, but bigger targets meant bigger gambles. Not many knew that the woman still had some kind of moral integrity, her contract to the Kage decreed that she at least would make "anonymous" citizen arrests to those that worked in drug smuggling and human trafficking almost ensured that. Those kind of things were at least still under wraps; she was incredibly good with her line of business.

Today though, her business led her into the city to make a small exchange with a new merchant that she had been eyeing for quite some time. She kept her eyes straight, blind to the on goings of those around her. Today she was a bit dressed down compared to what one might typically find her wearing. She wore a plain white button up, a black and white striped tie neatly around her neck, black slacks with attached suspenders, a shiny gold watch on her wrist, and a black newsboy cap sitting neatly on her fiery red locks. Hades was following her as she strolled through the shops, her other colleagues had scattered to resupply and purchase whatever they might have difficulty acquiring in town. Anyone could get anything for the right price around here, and most of it was off the record. Gray areas were the easiest to exploit after all. They brought the money, the caravans smuggled in her goods. Her group always paid the caravans that little bit extra for taking the risk. They weren't stupid, but they were greedy. Still, when you have the money, might as well guarantee your hands aren't all over the illicit goods.

Medusa finally reached an alleyway that led away from most of the hustle and bustle of the other shops. She casually turned and followed it until she reached a solid looking wall. To the unobservant eye, it would appear to be a dead end, but to those with the right kind of skills, it was a door. Her eyes slightly glanced to the ground, watching her shadow suddenly come to life. She smirked, watching it detach from her form, slowly slipping underneath the wall. A moment later, there was the distinct sound of shifting as a panel pressed inward and opened up. On the other side, Medusa saw a dark figure that matched her appearance without any real definition. A smirk adorned her face. "Much obliged." The shadow shifted again, appearing back on the ground naturally, reattaching itself to the edge of her body.

After entering, the door slipped closed behind her. Hades would be unable to follow, but he leaned against the wall, knowing his employer didn't like to have her business interrupted. Medusa continued through the low lit passageways, hearing hushed voices in the distance. "You idiots! She's going to be here any minute and you BROKE THEM?!?" The obvious sound of panic and anger that was in the man's voice had Medusa pausing. Her brows quirked in mild interest, stopping to listen. "It wasn't our fault! You try getting something that fragile across the desert!" There was another sound, something being thrown and smashing against a wall. "Hey, now! No need to get violent, we can probably fix them; she isn't here yet." Figuring she had heard enough, Medusa stepped out of the corridor shadows and into the light of the room where three members stood. One was a fairly large built man with a red mechanical eye and a mechanical arm, likely the merchant, given the angry expression on his face. The other man in the room, visibly younger and shorter than the previous, seemed to take a large gulp as his eyes zeroed in on her. The last member in the room was a woman that drew Medusa's curiosity. She looked rather....cat-like. Her mind didn't dwell long on them as the merchant turned to her. "You're early." Medusa flexed her wrist, glancing at her watch. Despite knowing exactly what time it was, this was more to prove a point than anything. "No, I don't think I am, 'captain'. I think I'm right on schedule. But, since you're so concerned with my time, perhaps we should move this along, shall we?" Her voice was dripping with threat, her eyes flashing green for a moment.

The merchant glanced to his companions, his glare ramping up nearly two-fold, hopefully unseen to the woman that was looking to do business with him. Instead of mincing words, he turned and picked up a solid black case. He presented the case to Medusa, popping two of the metal locks on it. The merchant opened it, displaying two custom made pistols, clearly broken. Medusa tutted, noting the poor state that they were in. "Well, well..." a small chuckle left her, making the others shift uncomfortably at the unexpected response from the woman. "I really must say, I feel quite distressed at not having been informed of such an unfortunate occurrence such as this. It would have saved me the trouble of traveling all the way here, wouldn't you agree? After all, my time is more valuable than my riches, yet you were paid in advance, quite handsomely I might add, to acquire these on my behalf. So now, my dear 'captain', I have lost my time, my money, and have no goods to show for it. How do you propose we rectify this, hmm?" By now, the other two members had ran, likely fearing from their life both from their boss and the woman who appeared oddly calm about the entire exchange. The merchant grumbled under his breath, clearly feeling backed into a corner, and by a woman no less! This would not sit with him. The man withdrew a large curved sword, pointing it directly at Medusa. "Perhaps your business isn't welcome here anymore. I've dealt with worse than the likes of you before, this doesn't need to get ugly. Cut your losses, girl." Waiting a moment, Medusa's expression flashed quickly to one of fear before pouting, giving the appearance that she might start to cry. The merchant saw this as a victory, happy to have bested the woman with the mere threat of violence. However, the man started to sweat when he noticed a sinister, toothy grin spread across Medusa's face, her eyes taking on that viridian green hue as her darker persona made it's presence known. A dark chuckle left her as she stepped closer into the man's space. "Oh dear, what an awkward situation you've just created."

She grabbed the man by the shirt, jerking him closer to her until he was near her face, she gazed into his eyes. The man struggled, but suddenly went limp as she assaulted his mind with vicious precision, locking onto him like he was nothing but simple prey. In that moment, her felt himself swell with fear, knowing he was at her mercy, unable to gain control over his own will. "Now, I'm going to take these, but I think I deserve a little compensation for the way this has been handled. I know you have a warehouse under this hovel you call a shop. You're going to let me in, and take whatever it is that I want, understand?" The merchant, compelled to agree with her, simply nodded. He turned and opened another panel, a secret set of stairs that led down several floors. Medusa dropped him suddenly, the man suddenly curled on the floor, unable to stave off the crushing pain that suddenly ripped through his skull. "If you try anything while I'm down there, my associates will know and things will get quite messy, and you don't want to see what happens when things get messy, 'captain'. This should only take but a moment." Before Medusa completely disappeared out of the view of the merchant, the man managed to whisper out something that caught her attention. "That's if you even manage to make it back at all. Some things down there aren't meant to see the light of day anymore." Curious, but not deterred, Medusa delved into the bowels of the warehouse.

Her black stilettoes clicked on the cold stone floor as she reached the bottom. The warehouse was large and expansive, much larger than she anticipated initially. It was dimly lit, like the rest, her she had adjusted to such lighting, having lived in the Underground for years. There were trinkets that lined shelves upon shelves, but nothing initially drew her attention. Most of the things down here were forgeries or worth very little, and did not serve any practical use to her. She wandered for several more moments, dragging her fingers lightly along the edges of the shelves. There was slight dust accumulation, a sign that most of these things had likely sat here for a while. Perhaps she really shouldn't have gone with this vendor if he couldn't even more his own merchandise quickly. Still, something of value was likely here. Making it nearly to the back of the warehouse, something in the distance caught her eye. A genuine smile tugged on the edges of her lips as she started to walk towards it. "Well, hello beautiful."

The Wind Country was a host to many dangers. The desert itself was no longer as big a threat as it once had been. With the departure of the worms and the tracks of industry laid literally across the dunes themselves, the danger of traversing the wilds of Wind were no longer as extreme as they had once been. Oh, there were still parts of the desert yet left alone due to supernatural forces, undoubtedly; however they too would eventually fall to the advancements of man. The true things to fear, the world ending, land shattering, awe-inspiring creatures of ages gone by, were still around; deep beneath the world above. Some of them long dead with corpses throbbing with power. Others, sealed away long ago by heroes forgotten.

The creature Mienai stumbled upon was one of those latter creatures. What stood in grand majesty before the Underground Queen was a gigantic statue of a cobra. Hood flared, eyes made of gigantic rubies, and fangs outstretched that were clearly some kind of metal all bound into an alabaster colored stone. If she looked real close, she might even see what appeared to be emeralds dripping down from the two fangs stretched and ready to strike. The striking pose, the aura, everything about the flawless work of art screamed ‘I am not a statue’, despite it feeling exactly like that once it was touched. Down at the base of the statue, which was some kind of crude cement added on no doubt to keep the masterpiece stable, was a golden plate with words carved deep into it.

The first two words were centered and larger than the rest. They read: Yin’thani. Then below was a brief description, claiming the fierce beast as a monster that once roamed the landscape as an unstoppable creature that exclusively hunted nearly every other predator in the desert, except, sand worms and the creatures that fed upon said worms. The snake was a terror to humans that were trying to build villages around the few oasis’ scattered across the country trying to just survive the harsh lands left to them by the Ancient Wars. Eventually, the plaque reads that a mighty warrior was able to defeat it and that the entire desert worked together to create the statue in honor of the hero who’s name was ironically left off the story; supposed they thought he’d go on to be super important.

Yet despite the golden plaque and precious metals/jewels literally hanging off the creature, not a single person has tried to remove them. Or, if they did, they didn’t succeed in any way. Not a mark touched the precious piece of art, making its true age impossible to tell. Now, exactly how or what the great Medusa wanted to do with the snake statue was of course her whim. She had passed many wonderful objects that had been stored away and settled on this. Did it call to her? Would it look great in her casino? How much would it cost to have it transported?

Was it actually a statue?

As she drew nearer to the item that had caught her interest, she took several moments to admire the details that unraveled before her the close that she got to it. The item in question appeared to be an eerily realistic snake statue, clearly crafted with much time and care. The statue screamed art and wealth, two things that practically called to her soul. She stopped in front of it, admiring the towering beast. A low whistle was let out. Despite it's beauty, Medusa did pause to consider why such an immaculate piece would still be down here. The merchant was clearly incompetent, but he knew how to at least make a sale else she wouldn't have considered doing business with him in the first place. A piece as fine as this shouldn't have lasted long enough to even make it into storage. There appeared to be no dust that had settled on it, the placard on the base of the statue evidence enough of that. Was it a new piece he had yet to sell? The curiosities could be endless, but those things mattered little to her, as she was inclined to take it for herself as she had demanded earlier.

Stepping close to read the plaque, Medusa squatted, running her fingers along the large engraved text. "Yin’thani, hm?" She read the description underneath thereafter and her satisfaction with the piece only grew. "Well, seems you were a force to be reckoned. Gorgeous and deadly are two things I can get behind. How about we give you a new home? One where you will be admired and feared once again?" The mob boss realized she was simply talking to herself, but it's a habit that one got into when you were often consulting yourself frequently. Her authority put her in the position to issue task delegation to a rather large network of criminals and overseeing the distribution of assets, after all.

Rocking back on to the balls of her feet, Medusa wondered if there would be an easier way to transport the statue out of here. She could call for her gang to help in the transportation, she supposed. She tilted her head, a contemplative finger placed over her lips, a smirk following the thought. "But first..." Medusa removed the gold plated watch from around her wrist, walking over and placing it on the tail of the snake, the time clearly displayed. She then removed her newsboy hat, looking closely at the snakes head before giving a quick flick of her wrist and letting it soar to land perfectly. The woman grinned with absolute delight. "Perfect. Now you really look like a member of the crew. Let's preserve the moment, shall we?" Giving a snap of her fingers, her shadow manifested next to her once more. Medusa turned, flourishing her hand towards the shadow. The shadow gave a distinct nod before moving a few feet away, giving Medusa a thumbs up. The red haired woman positioned herself with her back to the snake, a hand on her hip, posture straight and proud. The shadow manifested a small camera-like shape and a moment later there was a flash.

Relaxing her stature, Medusa hummed, the memory flashing into her mind mere moments after the shadow had taken a picture, a preservation in time stored into her long term memory. Without her notice, the shadow had also disappeared, reappearing a moment later attached at her feet. She faced the snake once more, crossing her arms. "Now that that's taken care of, let's see what we can do about moving you, darling." Medusa stepped up onto the platform that the snake sat on, prepared to inspect it a bit more closely.

Yin’thani’s thoughts were nearly non-existent. She remained there in silence for so many years, the darkness of the sealing jutsu blocking most thought from her mind, but not touch. For years she felt the desert, the cold darkness, the desert, and then again the cold darkness. Human hands had touched her glorious scales. She had felt the hell of being moved all across the Wind Country as a rare prize, a trophy for the rich and powerful. Yin knew this, even as thought remained but a distant memory. She was Yin’thani, terror of the sands, and knew there had been many hunters that prized her body well before she was defeated by that damn wandering hero. Her eyes had been turned to gems and her body stone and the black is all she could see; but her anger burned like a roaring fire. Despite that she had lived far beyond what she should have the giant snake knew only unrest; her hatred deep within her core was a hatred of humans and their magic.

Then she felt something touching her tail. It slipped something over it. Something cold, metallic. This had never happened before in the entire time she had been imprisoned. The cold sensation was akin to finding a cool stream of water in the vast desert heat and dipping a foot in. It awoke the thoughts of the snake beyond the feelings of seething hate. The alloy that the watch was made from was just the exact amount of gold needed to break the spell - for better or worst. Little by little the creature’s stone scales slowly softened, became mailable, and began to shift in color from gray to a pale yellow. Her eyes went from rubies into blood red seethe, and they looked down right at Medusa moments before the camera jutsu went off. Her mouth opened wide, fangs protruding to bite down on the humans soft, fleshy form, when she felt the wave of chakra shot out from the Shadow.

Instincts that had just awakened after a hundred years of sleep screamed one word; dodge. Immediately the snake’s giant form darted through shelves upon shelves of material, her gigantic form throwing things to and fro. Yin rampaged across the basement, hissing and spitting gobs of acidic venom at random places believing she was suddenly surrounded by humans and this was all a strange sacrificial ritual - they did tend to do really weird things like that. Explosions created by shattering volatile liquids against the floor began to catch things on fire, and the giant sand cobra wasn’t looking any less concerned as her giant tale shoved waves of shelves and junk towards and around Mienai.

I WILL NOT BE YOUR PRIZE ANYMORE, HUMANS! BURN! MELT! I WILL DEVOUR THIS BUILDING WHOLE!

Before she could even think to place her hands upon the magnificent statue, the snake thrashed to life and disappeared into the shadows of the warehouse. Medusa's brows drew together in confusion. She hadn't detected any kind of energy radiating off of the large being, but that wouldn't be the first time something like this happened. At the sound of crashing, Medusa threw herself into a tight roll on the floor, managing to shield herself behind some crates as the snake continued to spit pools of venom around the room. One by one, like a giant set of dominoes, the shelving collapsed in on itself as the snake continued to search for whatever it deemed a threat. Considering in this instance, Medusa herself was likely being considered that threat, it was a sensible thing to hide and assess the situation.

The room started to smoke lightly as the ancient looking objects blasted apart, sending various substances everywhere and torching the place. As Medusa stood to try and calm the snake, another wave of debris was thrown at her, causing her to fling herself to the side and roll roughly as far as she could. The mob boss hadn't anticipated having a full on fight while she was down here, but at least she was always generally prepared. Debating the best way to approach this situation was going to be mildly difficult. The snake was clearly agitated and didn't even quite understand what situation it was even in. It appeared defensive more than anything. It had exclaimed that it didn't want to be a prize after all, meaning it was trying to prevent capture, not inflict death for the sake of it. She could work with that. She just needed to get the snake to focus on her in a way that didn't result in her having an early retirement. Persuasion was her expertise, she just needed to get the snake to believe that she was it's salvation from this tomb it believed it was in. Still, she needed to know what kind of desires the snake had, what it's ambitions were.

Trying to stealthily make her way towards the snake as it continued to trash the place was no easy venture. Having to avoid several more near death experiences getting crushed to death was turning out to be a bit of a chore. Giving an indignant huff, Medusa threw herself out into the open, making eye contact with the snake. "That's enough, sweetheart. Let's see what's going on in that pretty little head of yours." The woman held eye contact with the snake, unwavering, as she attempted to infiltrate it's mind without it being able to detect her presence. If she messed this up, the snake would have the perfect opening to strike, but if things went according to her plan, she would likely have an ally within a short window of time. This was what her family did, this was her birthright skill. She would invade the mind of the snake, slowly sift through it's thoughts and then with just a few tugs here and there she could sew enough mental seeds to convince the snake that she was a necessary asset, that she could help it accomplish every one of it's desires and more.

Yin’thani wasn’t a fool. She could sense something scurrying around her attacks like a delicious mouse. The snake’s fangs launched and tore through shelves multiple times, just coming short of ending Meinai’s life multiple times. Her tail would launch things and try to lure the shinobi into a spot where she could pincer out the woman, but found that her opponent was even more slippery than she was. So, it was natural that Yin took the bait when Medusa finally stepped out and declare she calm down. The cobra turned, flared her hood as wide as it would go to display the beautiful markings hidden within and lunged at speeds that would be impossible for anything save an Uchiha or a Seikon to dodge.

Yet her fangs stopped just inches from piercing Meinai’s shoulders as acidic venom was flung just past her ears to melt something stone behind her. The genjutsu had struck her mind and she slowly folded back into a coil as the woman unfolded the layers of mind that laid easily opened due to the panic and fury. Medusa would easily find the information she was looking for. Yin’thani wasn’t just some terrible snake of the desert country - she was a creature of the Hebi Realm, where all snakes of mythical nature dwelled. Hundreds of years ago she had once even trusted humans, until one summoned her and placed a seal on the folds of her inner hood that kept her from breaking the jutsu that would allow her return home. The snakes eye’s flashed for a moment as she broke one of the two genjutsu laid on her mind, but regarded the human female before her now as the basement burned down around them.

Your power reminds me of Lady Genshine…she was the only creature capable of calming my fury before…” her eyes narrowed, “Speak then, Daughter of Human. I await to hear whatever reason you believe will save you from my venom…

The snake seemed to calm, even if just momentarily. Medusa had managed to sift through enough of her brain to understand that the snake was coveted for it's power as much as it was feared. It's instinct was defensive in nature, as reflective of any scared animal. Even the most magical of beings were still on a base level slaves to their natural instinct. Medusa would be lying if she said even as the room burned around her, that she did not feel a slight unease to the crumbling of the warehouse, entirely afraid of being swallowed whole by the earth. Still, she must press forward, for opportunities like this rarely present themselves.

She dared not take another step toward the snake, concerned that if she did so the snake would revoke her one change to actually get it to listen to her. Taking a calming breath before speaking, and steeling her nerves, Medusa addressed the snake. "I have no qualms with you, Yin'thani, nor should you with me. I continue to be no threat to you. I surround myself in riches, yes, scour the land for items of beauty and power, but the people that I acquire are not mere replaceable possessions. They are friends, they are family. Forging alliances to make ourselves stronger, to work towards all of our goals, that's what we do, it's what we live for. We are not burdened by morality, we simply stand together. We help unfortune kin like yourself, souls with no one left to turn to, forgotten, forsaken. By the looks of it, your options were slay or be slain, and whoever did this to you left you here to rot. So, now you have a choice to make here, my dear. You can kill me, and, in the unlikely event you manage to escape before the warehouse crumbles on top of us, be hunted once more, or maybe, we can come to some sort of agreement before we both perish. I can promise that you will be free, that you will be protected. The choice is yours." Medusa slowly placed one of her hands behind her back, and in an odd gesture stuck her hand out waiting for some kind of handshake.

It was plausible that the snake didn't want to make the deal, but Medusa would pull out of her mind completely, allowing her to decide their fate. Medusa was willing to stick her neck out for this being. Trust always started with respect, which was evident that the snake had earned on her part at least. Much more at least than the stupid merchant upstairs. Time was running out though, so she hoped the snake at least made up it's mind quickly.

The snake listened to the woman’s plea, and glared down hard. It all sounded like convenient lip service to Yin’thani’s ears, but she heard something in Medusa’s voice that rang of the truth. She was serious about those she called family, and by looking into her eyes saw an unwavering steel there before the dance of panic caused by the warehouse falling apart around them. For the first time, ever, Yin saw a human who did not balk at her form, and instead offered an alliance. She was almost sure that this was somehow all a trick, but she remembered that Genshine had once told her that there were a handful of humans that even She trusted. She had been gone from the world too long to just assume she could return to the desert and take back the wilds. Who knows how much man had managed to control over the wild dunes in her time imprisoned in stone?

The cobra retracted her hood and tilted her head up towards the ceiling before unhinging her jaw. A wet scroll popped up and the snake slowly lowered it down to unravel at Meinai’s feet. It was the summoning contract scroll every snake of her caliber could call forth to create a covenant with not just herself, but with her lord and master Genshine. The woman before Yin’thani had stood her ground instead of resort to combat, and calmed down the cobra’s fury; so she gave her an opportunity.

In your own blood, sign your name to the contract, and it will grant you my power, as well as the power over all of us who keep our belly to the ground…I offer you peace, Daughter of Human. Do not make me regret my choices.

Her hoods flared back out once more but with a might push of wind that quelled the fires and destruction around them. The force shattered windows, which allowed the black smoke of ruined goods to escape from the underground chamber as Meinai decided if she should indeed align her fate with the serpentine.

Unsure if the snake would agree with her logic and accept the offered allegiance, Medusa could feel the flames start to lick at her skin. The red haired woman had been backed into many corners in her day, all feeling just as lethal, yet she would not ever show fear on her face. She often gambled with her life in that manner, but she was a high risk, high reward kind of woman. There was no point in half investing in small pay offs.

Her green eyes noted when there seemed to be a change in Yin'thani. The snakes flared hood calmed, lowering back against it's head. Medusa felt her chest relax, a small breath leaving her. Still, her body remained rigid, prepared for an attack in case the snake was trying to lull her into a false sense of security. Her eyes grew wide as the snake opened it's jaw and for a moment, Medusa prepared once again for a battle of wits against the snake, but a rather lengthy scroll fell from it's fanged mouth. Medusa's brows drew together in mild confusion. Was that in there the entire time? Turned to stone and a scroll stuffed in your mouth? Someone really did have sadistic mind to conjure that method of torture. Perhaps Medusa could add that one to her collection of interesting interrogation tactics next time she needs to get some leverage against someone.

Yin seemed to offer her a contractual obligation upon receiving her words. The snake spoke of a pact, one that would benefit the both of them, and in this instance, one that Medusa found hard to see the downsides to. The red haired woman smirked at her opportunity. "You won't regret this, my dear, I assure you. I humbly accept your terms." The great snake had agreed to ally with her and share in their power. A small drop of her blood was nothing but a meager sacrifice. After all, Medusa lost more blood than that in a gun fight against other wayside criminals in the underground. Lifting her index finger to her mouth, Medusa bit down hard enough to draw blood forth from her skin. Daintily, she inscripted her name onto the wet paper, watching as it stained her name in the ruby scrawl.

Moments after, Medusa watched as Yin put out the fires around them, taking some of the literal heat off of them and giving them a window to leave the place. Knowing when to not overstay her welcome, Medusa gestured for her and the snake to leave so that they could meet up with the rest of her gang and give the good news of her latest addition. With this combined power, some new doors had just opened.
