Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

*Boom*

Lightning streaked across the sky and the heavens rumbled through the intensity of the thunder. The wind howled and the smell of rain was in the air, the harsh rain season had come to the land of Solum de Asphodelus. A man in a hooded cloak walked through the center of the small town called Yakanai, the town was known as a hub for foreigners crossing into the country and was a central trading hub for the cloud and tea countries. The cloaked figure briskly walked towards the local bar, “Drunken Raiden”.

Once inside the figure pulled his hood down and hung his cloak near the entrance, the man was a shinobi dressed in typical cloud jounin clothing. The man walked past the crowd and took a seat at the bar and signaled the bartender for a drink.

latest

“Haven’t seen you in awhile, Kaito. What brings you so far from the village?” The bartender asked as she grabbed him a glass and began to pour an alcoholic beverage in it.

Missions and babysitting.” Kaito said as he swiftly downed the drink and slammed it on the bar, signaling for another one. “What’s name of this shit? It’s much stronger then what I remember?”

It’s called Vodak. We just got some new traders from this unknown land that I can’t even pronounce and they brought a full crate of it along with them.” She said as she poured Kaito another glass.

There was always new traders coming in and out of Yakanai and it was known to have the best selection of alcohol outside of the village, that’s what made the small town so profitable and popular. Kaito had always come here if his missions required him to travel into the Solum de Asphodelus region, there was a food and drink discount only for cloud shinobi and Kaito always took advantage of the offer every time. However, this time he was slightly annoyed for the reasoning of him coming to Yakanai. He was to be the mission leader for a C rank mission of two Genin, essentially babysitting, and make sure they deliver some important documents from the cloud elder council to some bureaucrat’s villa 10 miles north of town. Easy money for Kaito.

The bartender looked past Kaito and signaled for him to look behind him, Kaito carelessly turned his head to find one of his Genin, scanning the bar to find the Jounin, the young girl looked maybe sixteen, seventeen at most. Kaito lifted his hand, signaling the girl to come here. The girl quickly made her way to Kaito, effortlessly dodging drunken fools blocking the way to the bar.

Kaito Sama? My name is Hisa Hyuuga.” The young woman said eagerly.

“Nice to meet you, Hisa. We’re just waiting on the last member of our group to arrive and we will be on our way. Feel free to order something while you wait.” Kaito responded.

Regardless of whatever his feelings were for taking such a low ranked mission, he knew it was his responsibility to help guide the next generation to be effective shinobi. He hadn’t trained a team of Genin ever since his failure of protecting his last team, which still haunted Kaito every day. He figured he might as well flirt with the bartender and make something worthwhile to forward too after the mission while he waited for the other genin to arrive.

Re: Well Wishes [Solo D Rank Mission]

"Fucking cunt-ass rain just never stops..." The boy muttered under his breath as he pulled his hood down, took off his toque, and thumbed the water out of his brow and sunken eyes. These were the days, he thought, that he might remember in twenty years time, or however long he ended up living for, that he'd look back on as the kind of adventures that typified youth, his youth maybe. It was his first mission, and he knew that anything worth remembering would take some effort, some sweat, but maybe it was a little easier for those that came in wanting to be the pride of their village. Tetsu just noted that he was running out of booze, and already out of food, and this seemed to be the type of work he was already well prepared for. The rain was demoralizing though, it was a nice little reminder that nature, and by extension life, didn't pay much mind to what a person might like or want, it just went on doing whatever it was going to do. He took a quick glance around, as if he'd be able to spot people who might be looking at him with it (really, if anything it would just draw more attention), and took a quick and discreet swig from his traveler's flask. Bar drinks were for socialites with money to burn.

As soon as he was done his sip, he realized that he already thought of his mission leader as an asshole, without having met him or knowing who it was. He shrugged it off. 'We all have our biases.' Scanning the bar, he couldn't exactly "see", but had long trained himself to make his eyes follow his ears as if he could. The man who would be leading him wasn't too hard to spot. The typical sort, vest, nice posture, the whole thing; extras in this grand play the village likes to hold, continuously. He waved to catch the man's attention before noticing that he seemed to have another little follower, who Tetsu gave a quick assessment before noting, too, that she was, well, at best average looking, and therefore not worth as much courtesy as he might have otherwise considered being magnanimous enough to grant her. He walked in to their small pairing, subtly edging her out so that she was partially concealed by his torso. "Yeah, you're our mission leader, right? Something must have gone wrong with the paperwork, I'm pretty sure I applied for a solo mission." He hadn't. He didn't even know if it was possible to make preferential requests when asking for a mission, because he spent literally the least amount of time he possibly could glancing over the paperwork he filled out to be here.

Not wanting to be forced to take a back seat behind the other young Genin, or to sit so that their leader was between the two of them (he was self-aware enough to know that, given an option, most people would choose to be able to sit with their backs turned to him), he had no choice but to awkwardly stand, as if waiting to depart immediately. Anyway, that more or less suited his current budget. He wanted to ask how much splitting the mission efforts would cut into his rewards, but he knew that as zealously stupid as your modern shinobi was, that would likely just result in some further demoralizing, military-style punishment. It wasn't that he was naturally dumb enough to do something like that anyway, more like he felt a strong compulsion to continuously shoot himself in the foot, so to speak. "I'm Tetsu." He said instead, after a slightly uncomfortable pause; simple and to the point, a slight disdainful look in his face as he reached his hand out to shake Kaito's hand alone.

The fellowship assembled

Time had quickly passed for Kaito focusing on the bartender and making sure he had plans to not sleep alone tonight, if everything went as planned then he would be finished with the mission before the night was over and he would be into something much sweeter and hopefully tighter. Hisa rolled her eyes and just focused on eating her food, she tried getting to know the Jounin further but he was too focused on the bartender.

Men….” She thought to herself as she heard Kaito whisper something into the bartender’s ear and watched her blush. Hisa rolled her eyes and focused on her food, ignoring what was going on right next to her. This was her 4th mission and she never met a Jounin who was so unprofessional until now. She just wanted this mission to be over with as soon as possible and gain her last credit in order to graduate as a Chuunin. Under normal circumstances she would have to go through the Chuunin exams like any other Genin, but with Hisa having 4 missions under her belt with one of them incidentally turning into a B rank mission, her superiors felt that she had more than proved herself. She quickly gulped down the last of her beverage and patiently waited for her other teammate.

“No one could be worse than this pathetic excuse of a shinobi.” Hisa thought to herself as she scanned the room looking to find her other teammate while ignoring the sad attempts at young and old men trying to flirt with her. Then she finally noticed a newcomer that looked around her age, she dismissed him as her teammate when he drank from a flask that was clearly filled with alcohol, but then suddenly he looked her way and began to wave at her and her expectations fell as flat as the random men who tried talking to her.

“You gotta be kidding me….” She muttered as the boy made his over towards her and Kaito and partially blocked her with his back facing her. Kaito lazily looked over to the boy that introduced himself by somewhat complaining about wanting to be on a solo mission instead of being in a group with Hisa. Kaito ignored the boy’s question and kissed the bartender on the cheek.

“I’ll be back to finish our convo later tonight, baby girl.” Kaito said as he rose from his seat.

The bartender smiled and went back to focus on the other customers. Kaito glanced at Tetsu when he extended his hand to shake Kaito’s hand, although it felt as if it was forced, the boy’s disdain was expressed throughout his face. Kaito responded with finishing his drink and gestured towards the door for them to leave, grabbing his cloak and making his way outside of the bar and into the harsh storm that raged outside. Hisa breathed a sigh of relief, she was over this place and just wanted this mission to be over with as soon as possible, she pushed past Tetsu, not caring if she pushed him over in the process. The boy had already gotten on her nerves with his complete and utter disregard for her as a fellow comrade in this mission.

Mission Start

The pouring rain already drenched Kaito’s cloak, making his way towards the exit of Yakanai, Hisa and Tetsu were right behind him probably waiting impatiently for the mission briefing. Kaito turned to face his team,

“Alright. I’m sure you two are wondering what exactly is the objective of our mission on this terrible night.” Kaito said, raising his voice slightly so that he could be heard over the pouring of rain and claps of thunder that roared throughout the sky.

“About 10 miles north of us is a villa that belongs to one of the financial Mongols of this city and is a major player in terms of creating a new trading deal that will push our village into becoming an economic titan in the trading world.” Kaito pulled out a small scroll to show his team.

We are to deliver the final documents of the deal to be signed and bring it back to the village. Luckily our host will have a courier hawk to transfer the documents back to the Raikage tower once the documents are signed, which will make our mission even easier to complete. As you can imagine, other towns and villages aren’t too keen on allowing this deal to come to fruition and it is possible for us to encounter some hired mercenaries on the way but it is doubtful.” Kaito explained. He paused for to see if there were any questions but none were asked, which was perfect for Kaito.

Alright, let’s get underway. This road here will take us directly to the villa and is the quickest way to get to the villa, however, it is probably being watched by a hired merc or two waiting to ambush us. Although, there is another way through the mountains that we can hike up that will significantly take longer but will most likely have no mercs guarding the passage….. plus it will give us more time to learn more about each other. Your choice.” Kaito explained, patiently waiting to see what.

“I say take the direct path and trample any fools that get in our way!” Hisha said in a confident voice. “Besides, with this downpour it will slow down our journey up the mountain even further.” She looked over to Tetsu, “What do you think? Don’t you think the direct path is the best course to take?” Hisha asked, eagerly waiting for what her fellow Genin’s thoughts were.

OCC: Throughout this mission you will be given choices at the end of each post. Each choice you make can have drastic repercussions throughout the mission and can go as far as increasing the difficulty of the mission! Be sure to choose wisely as your character’s decisions will decide how the story ends.

Having spent a year alone in the woods affects the way, ever so mildly, that you might perceive other people. Walking through any city seemed now to have the effect of insulating Tetsu, to the point of claustrophobia, within his own thoughts and self-reflections; the people around him, and those that he spoke to, often appearing in very low resolution. Not exactly like they were barely people, but more like whatever interactions they might have with him were to be automatically considered a hindrance, first and foremost. It might have explained why Tetsu hadn't quite picked up on his superior's flirting with the bartender, actually not even seeing his kiss to her until the man pointed toward the door.

His opinion of Kaito, despite himself, immediately rose by a few levels. It wasn't admiration for his womanizing behaviour, but rather a simple awareness of when a person could see what was bullshit and when they couldn't. The Jounin was here to do a job, and his ever-so-slight assholish behaviour towards his nameless compatriot and Tetsu had the ironic affect of making the boy immediately think 'Maybe this guy isn't such an asshole after all.' Still an asshole, obviously, but not as much as he immediately assumed. In other words, Kaito was at least a human being in the eyes of the boy; he had graduated from being an object. The girl, on the other hand, was an entirely different story. Tetsu operated on instinct, actually making an effort to move as often as he could based purely on what his spinal cord, his instincts, were telling him. It was essential for combat, being connected to spontaneity and the thoughts and feelings that were not yet fully formed, or for which you couldn't exactly yet trace in origin. It might have been his imagination when he saw her sitting there, looking a bit dejected, but this subtle nagging in the back of his mind was confirmed when she brutishly pushed past him to get to the door. 'One of those, huh...' He sighed to himself before emotionally trying to prepare for a hard won battle wading through a bunch of unnecessary noise and required attention to social cues.

“Alright. I’m sure you two are wondering what exactly is the objective of our mission on this terrible night.” Not really. He thought, staring at the back of the girl's head, as he stood withdrawn into the background of their little troupe.

He was trying to figure something out, although he didn't quite know what, and reminded himself that he had better be paying attention to the important details of what the Jounin had to say. Important documents to broker a deal, other people not wanting them to be sent, short path, long path. Got it. He was watching her posture, it seemed tense. She seemed well groomed and put together, very conscientious, and as eager as he was to get through this mission as quickly as possible, but he couldn't quite believe it was for the same reasons. It put him on edge. There was a tiny voice in Tetsu's head telling him that he didn't have to voice everything he thought he knew, and that some knowledge was better absorbed and formulated into a plan of action. He, of course, ignored the voice when he saw they were waiting for an opinion from him, noting that he had effectively been given permission to speak his mind. He spoke up casually, "Long path. Whatever her name is here is pissed at me, too focused on us, and she's not even going to be able to see any threat that's coming because she'll be too focused on internal group dynamics, which is going to put her in jeopardy, which is going to put the mission in jeopardy. So we should get to know each other." He said all this as if it was just a plain fact with no consequences, like someone abandoning a carriage that was barreling down the road and about to crash; it was now someone else's problem.

Given the apparent and, in his mind appropriate, lack of gravity their troupe leader seemed to be assigning this mission, Tetsu made a judgment that there was a fairly good chance that the man would forego any final judgments, giving the say to his two young Genin, because, well, on paper, that was the appropriate training mechanism for him to allow those green soldiers to grow and learn to be leaders. This, of course, would allow the man to do even less work, and be justified in doing so. Tetsu stopped himself partially, concerned at how much credit he was giving Kaito, but, well, it wasn't an altogether unreasonable assumption to make. He turned to the girl and looked at her silently for a moment. "If you disagree with my reasoning," He said, sensing the small mountain of bullshit that was about to be offloaded onto him, "You can fight me to see whose plan we go with." And with that, very discreetly, as slowly as he could, pushed his right heel backwards into the earth behind him, squaring up his posture, and gazing intently into the girl's eyes.

Mud and Earth

Kaito’s eyebrow raised slightly at Tetsu’s challenge to Hisha as his choice of which path to take conflicted with Hisha’s. “So, it’s gonna be one of those teams…” Kaito thought to himself as he stood there waiting to see what would transpire. Hisha’s eyes glared at the the boy as if her gaze could steal the soul of another. A part of her wanted to rock his jaw with a left hook and go on the mission without him but that wouldn’t help anyone in the end and would only hinder them, plus she doubted that Kaito would let that happen. She took a deep breath and exhaled,

“No, I have no problem with that. If your so eager to fight with a comrade that easily then maybe it’s best we do get to know each other and become more efficient as a team.” She said as her intense glare subsided. “My name is Hisha by the way.” She never introduced herself and she knew she started this relationship on the wrong foot by somewhat pushing him over in the bar, she needed to be the bigger person and diffuse the situation.

Kaito could only help but let out a chuckle. This was going to be an interesting night, he could feel it. “Alright then since that’s settled let’s get under way.” Kaito said as he made his way towards the path of the mountain. If they moved quickly they’d be able to reach the villa in 3 hours, Raiden willing.

1 Hour later.

They reached the most dangerous part of the mountainous path now as the path narrowed and the ledge of the mountain no longer had railing, if anyone wasn’t careful then it would be a long way down. The hike up the mountain however was quiet for the most part, everyone kept to themselves and focused on not slipping in the thick mud. Kaito felt that he wasn’t being the shining example of what a shinobi should be and decided to break the silence.

“So, Hisha…. I read your file, after this mission you are to be on track of becoming a Chuunin? That’s pretty impressive.” Kaito said as he maneuvered around a fallen oak tree that blocked their path.

“Thank you, I was surprised myself when my sensei informed me of the elders decision to promote me.” She responded, she was glad someone broke the awkward silence.

“What made you want to take this assignment, Kaito sama? You seem like your not the type to want to supervise Genin in lower ranked missions.” She continued, trying to probe into a little of who her mission leader was. Kaito smirked, she was spot on on her analysis of him, she was right to a degree in where he felt that instructing Genin was not his forte but not for the reason she thought it was.

“Your very perceptive Hisa. It’s less money and I could be doing more important missions that need my skill set, babysitting and playing politics isn’t really my thing.” Kaito responded, however that answer the whole truth but he didn’t owe them the truth nor did he care to resurrect painful memories.

“What about you Tetsu? You clearly feel some type of way being a part of a team, did you think for your first mission the council would grant you the responsibility of trusting this mission entirely to you without you having a record of success?” Kaito asked, attempting to peer through to see Tetsu’s method of thinking was. Did he believe himself to be the baddest Genin around or was he just not in the mood today?

Before Kaito could respond to Tetsu’s answer, the storm got worse. Lightning crackled throughout the black sky and struck the mountainous walls above them. Rocks and mud plunged down the cliff endangering of sweeping the group off the ledge and down the 80 foot drop into the abyss.

“Shit!” Kaito looked around to see if there was another way for them to dodge their muddy demise, he only recognized one escape route.

“Your going to have to jump!” Kaito yelled. He reached into his pouch and threw the scroll over to Hisha, “Get the documents over to the villa, I’ll cover you guys from the mudslide.”

“Earth Style: Mud Wall!”

Kaito placed his hands on the cliff and a large wall erupted from the side of the wall, granting the team shelter from the mountain’s wrath.

“I won’t be able to hold it for long, make your way west to the villa, we’ll rendezvou with near the waterfall overlooking the villa. If I am not there by you two arrive then complete the mission without me!” Kaito barked, keeping his chakra concentrated on the wall so that it wouldn’t fall apart.

Hisha hesitated for a moment, thinking to stay by Kaito’s side and help him block the incoming earthly assault but she knew that the mission had to be complete and she would listen to her leader’s instructions.

“We’ll be waiting for you Kaito! Hisha yelled as she faced Tetsu, “Come on Tetsu! We don’t have much time!” She said as she ran towards the cliff, her body hesitated for a moment but she pushed past her initial fear, she activated her Byakugan and leaped off the cliff not having enough time to see what was at the bottom of the fall.

Tetsu, had to make a choice…. Follow Hisha and leap into the dark abyss or help Kaito in blocking the mud slide. He didn’t have much time as whatever decision he made would be based off of initial instinct.

As he waited for the girl to speak, something new now tugged at the back of Tetsu's mind, this time about the Jounin leading them. A wordless quandary, Tetsu couldn't quite figure out why the man was standing back and waiting to see if the two would battle it out. It conflicted with the boy's image of the man as not wanting to have to deal with anything unnecessary; it was borderline thoughtful, and possibly in the best interest of his and the girl's personal growth, or so he would assume, if he were in such a position and cared. He couldn't square it up with any mold he could try to jam Kaito into, but, he supposed, he didn't care enough to mull the question over, so he simply let it recede into the darkness of his subconscious.

“No, I have no problem with that. If your so eager to fight with a comrade that easily then maybe it’s best we do get to know each other and become more efficient as a team.” The little jab was not lost on Tetsu, and he smiled with a cutting wince, but while he was ready for a little battle of passive aggression, if that was the order of the day, his fun was dampened a little as the girl quickly moved on to introduce herself, and quicker still, their nameless leader would declare that they ought to all start shuffling along through the cold night's path. He wasn't, he decided, going to try to squeeze in his own little dig into the girl when the conversation had moved on without him, he'd just have to store up that bit of pettiness until the appropriate opportunity presented itself. "Tetsu." He repeated with a grin, knowing he had already given out his name, but not wanting to stoop so low as to have to say anything like 'Nice to meet you', and he had yet to find a neutral equivalent to 'Now we've met.'

Who's getting caught up in little social irritations now? The voice in the back of his head taunted him with, but he ignored it and went on his way. He was of the mind that he had been generous enough to categorize the problem for the group, and so was relatively contented just passing through the mountainside in silence, assuming that, at the very least, the other two would bond with each other, and that would almost certainly be enough for the trip to run smoothly. Sure enough, eventually they started making small talk, the very beginnings of introductions, and Tetsu, half phasing them out of his field of attention, was a little bit surprised that he'd be pulled into the conversation. But, he supposed, that was the duty of their nameless leader too. "It's like you said," he began, not really having to think much to find the answer to the man's challenge, "You're here to babysit. Everyone knows the Genin that come along on these trips are little more than lackeys; do you need more than one lackey to finish the job, or should I pretend that we're actually responsible for the success of this mission?"

Sometimes even Tetsu couldn't stand how insufferable he was, and he hated being around other people for the very reason that it brought out the worst in him. When he would wander around the forest, he could be alone with his quiet thoughts, and now, in the village, in a team, he was forced to see the shape of his internal landscape, because it needed to be crystallized into coherence; shared, scrutinized, torn apart. In the forest, there was some ambiguity to the shape of his life, but here, he was alone, and he knew it.

And there, in the midst of his stewing over what he had said, and as if the universe had conspired to make him look like a dumb asshole, the earth started coming undone above him. His first instinct was to prepare for a fight, but everything happened so quickly. Before he could catch his footing, he saw the man whose name Tetsu hadn't bothered to learn dive in front of the landslide and rapidly throw together the handseals to hold the monstrous rock flow at bay.

He could feel himself staring at the man gravely as he yelled at the two of them to jump and complete the mission. He had no reason to follow what the man was telling them to do, it wasn't exactly as if Tetsu was the type to blindly follow orders, but in that moment, some force from an unknown place inside of him reached up and compelled him to do so. It was automatic, the quickest sensible thing he could think to do, so he did it. He ran after Hisa, almost hesitating, but the vision of her falling figure compelled him to jump two seconds before he even reached the cliff face, as if her doom was his own anyway. There was no plan when he was in mid air; he was soaring to his death, and he knew it. He knew that somewhere in the whole inventory of the jutsu he had invested so much time into accumulating was something that would save him, but there wasn't a single technique that came to mind, he had no recollection, even, of any technique he had learned at all. He grabbed frantically for branches from the sparsely spaced trees that lined the cliff face, one finally reaching up and striking Tetsu's arm so hard he thought it would take it clean off, before also hitting him hard in the face. To his credit, he grabbed it. When he had, he sought out Hisa's form in the darkness, a feat actually made quite a bit easier by his blindness, and when he found her, began humming a strained tune that would call forth one of his massive and grotesque Ghost Dancers to try and catch her. He hoped she wouldn't die, and he hoped she wouldn't die hard enough that he felt it might become reality just by the strength of his wishing for it, but she was moving so fast that he could practically feel her slip through the fingers of his ghostly creation.

Trust and Despair

The descent into darkness felt much slower than Hisa thought it would be, her adrenaline was spiking and her stomach felt like it was dropping faster than she was. Her Byakugon gave her the insight to see that they at the bottom of the abyss was a river, although she didn’t know if the water was shallow or deep and Hisa didn’t want to find out. She reached out to incoming branches from trees sticking out of the side of the mountain hoping to grab something. She was rewarded with the feeling of her hands wrapping around a branch, she breathed out a sigh of relief.

*Crack*

Her heart sank as the branch violently snapped off the tree by the sudden force from her weight. She fell further, she was rocked by the sudden force of one of the branches slamming into her left shoulder, the breath was nearly knocked out of her from the tremendous force of the hit. She continued to fall and knew that she couldn’t avoid being consumed by the river as there were no trees to help break her fall. All she could do was pray to Raiden that the water was deep enough.Tetsu followed Hisa’s same trajectory of the fall, grasping one of the tree’s branches in order to stop the fall but sadly due to the harsh rain and wind the branch snapped and sent Tetsu plummeting further down. Pines and branches slashed into his clothes, giving him small cuts on his bare skin that his clothes weren’t protecting. Tetsu tried to maneuver around the last set of branches but could only move so much until his arm slammed into a large branch. He would a slight pop of the joint being dislocated before he would feel the cold embrace of the river below.

*Splash*

The impact of hitting the water at that velocity jarred Hisa’s senses, the water was cold and the river current was unforgiving as she was pulled deeper into the river’s embrace. She struggled to gain control of herself and willed her body to the surface, the initial impact of the water took the breath out of her and she didn’t have much time before she would lose consciousness. She pushed and kicked harder then ever before she was rewarded with a large gasp for air. She survived. Hisa looked around to find Tetsu not far behind her, she signaled for him to go to the small river bank adjacent to them.

“I can’t believe we survived….” Hisa said as she collapsed on the beach. She looked around to see where they ended up and was surprised to find that the current of the river pulled them much farther then what she anticipated. She had no bearing of where she was and only had a general direction of where Kaito told them to go, if the river hadn’t carried them they could have followed the dirt path below the mountain but fate wasn’t kind to them this day. She looked over at Tetsu and could see that his fall through the trees was far worse than hers. His clothes were ripped apart by the branches and he had small cuts decorating his hands, arms, and neck. She crawled her way over to him to examine him further and noticed his arm was slightly contorted.

“Your arm is dislocated...I’m going to have to adjust it slightly to pop it back into place…...It’s going to hurt…. A lot so try not to yell too loud. Although I think it will suffice for payback for you being asshole.” She said jokingly with a smile, trying to lighten the situation a little. Suddenly a pair of flashlights shun near them, then there were voices that could be heard over the harsh rain.

“I can’t stand this damn rain! Came out of fuckin’ no where!” A rough voice could be heard.

“Yeah, but at least it ain’t a damn blizzard like before.” A younger voice responded.

Hisa’s eyes widen and helped Tetsu up if he needed it due to his injuries and swiftly moved into the opposite side of the woods, crouching down and hiding behind a large oak tree. Hisa activated her Byakugon and peaked around the tree to see two men clothed in traditional samurai garb.
il_570xN.407309834_f3bw.jpg

“Samurai? What are Samurai doing our country?” Hisa whispered. Normally Samurai were mostly located in the Tea country, although cloud has seen more ronin warriors trickle into the country but these were fully armoured Samurai which was rare to see. She turned back over to Tetsu and lightly grabbed his injured arm, she gestured for him not to make a sound as she readjusted the arm until there was a satisfying pop of it going back into place. It must have hurt like hell.

“I might have an idea to get to the villa. Samurai are very well paid and it is likely that they are employed by the trade executive. If they aren’t employed by him, chances are they are the mercs Kaito warned us about and making their way to the vicinity of the villa.” Hisa explained. She took the scroll that contained the trade agreement and handed it to Tetsu.

“Hold this. I’ll get them to escort me to the villa while you stalk us through the woods, the rain and thunder will give you additional cover.” She continued. After relaying her plan to Tetsu she slowly stood up and began to adjust her clothing by pulling her top down to more cleavage…... perhaps too much, and removed her Genin headband and pouch that contained all her shinobi weapons and tools. She deactivated her Byakugon and walked out to face the men.

“Hello... Oh, thank Raiden! I have been looking for someone to help me.” Hisa screamed as she made her way over to the warriors, intentionally stumbling and slipping over the slippery terrain. The samurai looked at each other then made their way over to Hisa.

“What is such a fine thing like you doing outside.” The older warrior said as he eyed Hisa’s body up and down several times.

“I am one of the dancers for the big celebration at the villa. I was on the forest path that was supposed to direct me to the villa but after this fuckin’ storm started I lost my way….. Could you boys help me get there? I’d be so grateful for your help.” She said as she moved closer to the duo and flirtatiously placed her hand on the younger samurai’s chest.

“I...I…..sure...I don’t think we were invited inside though.” The younger warrior stammered, clearly nervous from Hisa’s flirting.

“Oh don’t worry about that honey, I will get you both in and make sure you’re well taken care of.” She said using that intense gaze that excited the warriors even further. The two looked at each other, clearly excited at Hisa’s offer.

Tetsu had the scroll now and he could do whatever he wanted now, follow Hisa’s route and stalk the group to the villa or go rogue and finish the mission his own way. The choice of doing the mission solo was now in his grasp.

A hollow darkness filled his field of view as he was tugged below by the river current, above was all of life and chaos, below, silence. It reminded him too much of the panic he had when he had been inches and seconds away from drowning. When his feet touched the solidness of shifting sand and stone beneath the water, his legs spasmed into heated action; he felt his body violently ripping against the tide like prey trying to break free from the jaw of some starving beast. He hadn't even noticed his arm was dislocated when the young girl came over to pop it back into place, and was a hair's breadth away from ripping her face off when she grabbed hold of it, his panic rendering his capacity for rational thought almost useless, and he just stared at her with a wild and animal look in his eyes.

When Hisa helped him up, he began to come to, the voices of men approaching helping to ground him in time and space. First, the feeling of imminent danger gripped him, then, the sight of their armor led him immediately to believe that these men must have been chasing them down, and likely responsible for the mudslide above the mountain. It wasn't particularly rational, since samurai weren't especially known for their ability with ninjutsu, although a brick and mortar sort of trap might have been lain. These thoughts were tiny voices in his head, overwhelmed by the knowledge that he ought to act as if they were their primary threat; to err on the side of caution. He was still emerging from his daze as she handed him the scroll, the adrenaline still running through him like acid as he watched her adjust her cleavage and undress from her armor; he was at risk of developing some danger fetish here.

And like that, almost as quickly as they had emerged from the river, it seemed, she was running off with the enemy after laying out some plan for Tetsu. He was then left, sitting in the mud, wondering if he even had a moment to think, and then spending several considering whether it would be profoundly stupid to do as she had said and leave her to distract the men who had stumbled on their location. On the one hand, she was kind of a bitch anyway, but on the other, well, if she went missing, it would be pretty tough to claim a reward, especially since, in Tetsu's mind, Kaito had sent him down to protect Hisa. He couldn't have been sitting there long, but he decided to drink a little as he did so. Just a few gulps, that was all. 'Okay' He decided, after his head had gotten sufficiently light, 'It's my job to get this scroll to this trade executive, so that's exactly what I'm going to do. Hisa should be able to take care of herself against a few lame samurai anyway.' He had completely missed the part where Hisa had told him to stalk her little group, and so kind of figured she would just be... Getting information from them or distracting them or something.

He was looking for life through the forest. He really wished he had the gift of sight, allowing him to look for the lights that marked the insomniacs of some village, but Tetsu would have to settle for listening as closely as he could for the sounds of people. What he found instead were chickens, but they were caged. That would have to do as far as signs went. Walking toward it, the shape of quiet houses came into view; a sparse scattering of people that seemed to live a more rustic lifestyle, stretched furs lining one or two of the yards, and this was just about all Tetsu needed to observe before deciding that he had as much information as he would ever need when formulating his plan of action within the village.

He tried his very best, almost physically trying to uproot the thoughts from his mind, but he just could not, for the life of him, recall who Kaito had said the trade executive was. 'He must have given us this person's name, right?' And yet, and yet, not a single name or address emerged from the depths of his mind, and the more he tried to conjure them, the more his forcefulness seemed to be forging memories and muddying the waters. Tetsu stood right against one of the quieter houses he found in this minute village. He slowly slid the window open from outside, and, as carefully as he could, edged his way in. In the bedroom, an almost middle-aged woman seemed to be sleeping alone, and he crept up silently to her before grabbing her by the collar of her nightgown and pulling her up to meet him, "Where is the trade executive?" He asked in a menacing voice. She looked terrified and confused. "Tell me!" And, as she continued to gawk at him, more than anything, he felt embarrassed and stupid that he now found himself so derailed from what he was supposed to do, badgering an old lady in the middle of the night and jeopardizing the mission for something he probably could have asked their troupe leader about at the outset. 'Sie La Vie', wondering now if he was going to have to kill this woman just to keep himself under the radar. Probably a bad idea, but he wasn't really sure.

The voices of both the samurai and Hisa faded away as Tetsu pushed further into the forest, desperate to follow the signs of civilization not knowing whether he was pushing further away from the objective or not. He was alone. Coming upon a dimly lit farm, the rogue Genin slowly made his way over to the farmhouse, the heavy storm that once plagued the shinobi’s journey had slowed down to a light rain that barely covered his movement from the farm dogs but his scent made the dogs in the barn start to bark repeatedly. Sliding his way through the window of the farmhouse like a snake he did his best to conceal his approach, although the dogs barking became louder.

Aina had a long day of manual labor before the storm had hit but she still had much on her mind, she spent what felt like an hour or more trying to go to sleep but there was still so much to do in preparing for the upcoming season. Her son, Akira, had just returned home from his quarterly training in the Yakanai police force to help his parents for the upcoming season. She was so proud of him, despite her hesitation of him joining four years ago, Akira had proven himself to be a capable policemen and had swiftly risen to the rank of lieutenant at 25, which was unheard of in Yakani. She turned over on her right side, hoping that the position would relax her body enough to finally fall asleep but instead she froze with fear. A shadowy figure pounced on her as fast as an apparition and pulled her to his face, despite the lights turned off Aina could tell that it was a teenage boy.

“Where is the trading executive!?” The intruder yelled. Aina broke into tears, terrified of what was happening, could this be the bandits that robbed the farmhouse a few months back? It had to have been, no one else would come this far off the main road to bother them. The stranger repeated his question louder and growing angrier, Aina was confused and could barely find the will to speak but forced herself too in hopes that the intruder would be satisfied and leave her alone.

Ga..Ga...Gaito?....his villa is 2 miles south of the main road.” Aina stuttered, still paralyzed with fear, she could feel the eminent effects of an anxiety attack around the corner. Suddenly the bedroom door flew open, “Mom!?” Akira shouted, the son was in his police attire with a kunai in his left hand. His eyes widened with anger with the sight of an intruder threatening his mother, the intruder moved swiftly towards the window to escape, Akira’s hands moved quicker then he thought possible as the kunai sliced through the air and penetrated the intruder’s arm. Akira was rewarded with the painful yelp of the intruder as it darted into the darkness. Akira ran towards the window to get a beat on where the bastard ran off but to his disappointment the intruder disappeared into the night. Akira, turned over to his mother, “Mother!? Are you hurt? Are you ok!?” Akira yelled. No response. The mother’s anxiety had gripped her completely and she could barely breath, Akira ran sprinted towards the hallway to the radio to call for help… he had to move fast.

Tetsu sprinted towards the main road, his arm trickling blood onto the mud from the impaled kunai. He moved swiftly, finally beginning to see lights in the distance from the massive villa and realizing that his objective was finally within reach despite him abandoning Hisa. However in the distance Tetsu would see 3 figures blocking his path, 2 armoured Samurai and a cloaked hooded figure standing behind them.

“Halt! Who are you and state your business.” One of the samurai said taking a few steps forward to intercept the Genin.

Silence.

The other samurai pulled his katana from his sheath and flanked his partner, “It be best for you to answer the question. We will not ask again.” The warriors were tense and they were prepared for any sudden movements the Genin would make, however the hooded figure behind the warriors remained motionless as if they were a statue in the night.

"Aina Kiwarimi" Tetsu started, grasping for the first name he could pull from thin air. 'I better think quick now, can't afford to pause too much if I want these meatheads to fall for what I'm about to feed them... He kept his ears on the samurai that were not-so-subtly squaring up to cut him down, but did his best to look dignified, as if it would be unthinkable for them to charge at him after he was through explaining himself. "I'm a shinobi from Tea Country, here on urgent business. I was, however, diverted from my task when I heard screams not five minutes off this path." He pointed to the two samurai easing in on either side of him to flank him, and demanded their attention. "You two. An old woman has been assaulted in her sleep in a nearby farmhouse; if you bear loyalty to this country's citizens, please head North and see that she's cared for." It was the kind of voice he was emulating, and which could only be delivered, by straightening out your back completely and just doing your best to sound like an absolute cock. He thought his impression of your standard, uptight shinobi was pretty good, but time would tell if he would be able to stick the landing here.

As he spoke, he started quickly racing through all of the problems with the half-baked plan he was now forced to put into action. Firstly and most obviously, he assaulted the woman, which means if the goons in front of him decided to take him back with them, the jig would essentially be up. Secondly, all three might go to the little farmhouse to investigate, which would really put a wet towel over his current plan to split them up and take them down piecemeal. Third, now that attention was drawn onto that house and his poor behaviour there, he would have to make sure that not a peep came from any of these new players in his little side quest he had undertaken until his documents had been delivered. At best, that meant that these samurai of unknown allegiance would have to be beaten, and maybe killed, and he'd have to return to the farmhouse to tie up that old lady, or worse. Fourth, all of this was costing him time he couldn't afford while his partner was probably running out of hers. Finally, and this was the big one, there was more than a good chance that the samurai and cloak and dagger over there wouldn't believe him, and he wasn't dying to find out how a three on one fight would go against someone who thinks they're badass enough to pull off a hooded robe.

Tetsu now pointed his attention to the leader of the two dogs, "And you," he pulled up his sleeve to reveal the fresh wound from his recent home invasion. "I had tackled the assailant, but he cut me and broke free. I've been chasing him for the last five minutes; he shouldn't be far ahead, please follow me and lend me your support." The farmhouse was five minutes away at a good pace. He'd wait two minutes for the lackeys to be out of support range, and if he could take out the hooded man in a minute and a half, he could retrace his footsteps and hunt down the man's crew after that. If they had reached the house by then, he'd have to deal with the old lady, since they might have passed on the exact location for any back-up they might have to go in and investigate. If they bought this steaming pile of nonsense, which was by no means a guarantee, and if he could even defeat the robed man. He had a little more confidence about dispatching the two goons on either side of him, and he figured it wasn't a bad guess to assume that, win or lose, a minute and a half is a lot longer than it seems for a white knuckled sort of encounter.

Tag Team Duo

The two samurai looked at each other then laughed at the Genin’s order, this boy clearly didn’t know who they were. “Who are you to give orders to us, boy!? Second, why would we give a damn about that?” The taller samurai said with an undertone of frustration. He looked over to the kunai still impaled into Tetsu’s arm while the shorter samurai began to walk around the right side of the boy to see if he had any weapons attached to his back.

“Looks like this “bandit” did more than just give you a scratch. I thought shinobi from our country would be more formidable.” The taller samurai said inquisitively. Tetsu spoke to the hooded figure and ordered that they help him catch this bandit, but the hooded figure remained silent and motionless, ignoring the feeble command that they were given.

“We have not seen any bandits on this road due to the harsh storm, in fact, you are the only person we have seen on this road….” The samurai continued, now more skeptical of the Tetsu’s story. “If you are indeed a shinobi from the land of Tea then I will need to see your headband as proof.”

“Also, empty out all of your contents within your pouch and throw them down in the mud… nice and slow.” The shorter samurai chimed in. The two samurai were impatiently waiting for Tetsu’s response however their warrior instincts were telling them something was off, not to mention the boy’s story did not add up at all.

Two miles west of where Tetsu was, Hisa followed the two samurai that escorted her to the villa, they had been walking for at least 90 minutes and took a dirt path that ventured off into the woods. The samurai assured Hisa that the dirt path was a faster way to the villa, to Hisa’s satisfaction about 400 meters away the villa could be seen past the trees. The villa had a large wall at least eight feet high with a wooden gate, two sentries stood outside watching the main road. Hisa subtlety activated her Byakugon to find Tetsu and signal him to complete the mission but he was nowhere to be found, she looked in all directions to see if he changed his location but she couldn’t find him, he was gone. Anger swept over Hisa like a flood, “This dumbass really left!? Why would he leave? He doesn’t even know where the villa is! I knew I shouldn’t have trusted him with the scroll.” She thought to herself, even if Tetsu had moved on to the villa at the first sight of it she still would have been able to see his chakra through the darkness thanks to her Byakugon but that wasn’t the case at all.

Her brain scrabbled in trying to come up with alternate plans, should she attempt to escape the samurai and try to find Tetsu or should she continue to follow the samurai. She didn’t even know if the samurai were really part of the trade executive’s security force or if they were part of the enemy group that Kaito warned about, on top of that when they arrived at the main gate she would be compromised by the sentries with her story of a celebration being held inside the mansion. “If I had the trade agreement I would be able to get inside easily but you just had to give it to Tetsu. I don’t even have my headband to indicate that I’m from the village.” Hisa thought to herself, continuing to beat herself up from the foolish decision she had done earlier by giving the trade agreement to Tetsu. Her first impressions of people are seldom wrong and she should have gone with her initial thought of Tetsu being a wild card, selfish, and completely unreliable. Hisa had to move fast, they were still far enough where the security lights on the wall wouldn’t see them and thanks to the storm any screams or yells would be masked from the continuous rain and thunder.

Hisa reached for her kunai within her pouch but suddenly realized that she also left her pouch that contained all her tools with Tetsu. Her anger rose further, everything was fucking up. She examined the samurai’s gear and noticed the younger samurai had a dagger sheathed and attached to his hip, she looked for a weakness in his armor and found a gap in the Samurai’s armor behind the knee. She had to move fast. Hisa swiftly darted forward, grabbing the samurai’s dagger then slashing behind both his knees, she could feel the blade slicing through the skin and tendons then was rewarded with a painful scream as the young samurai legs immediately buckled into the mud. Hisa griped the back of the young warrior’s neck and changed the trajectory of the blade and smoothly slit his neck. The young man attempted to say something but the only thing that could be heard was the gurgling and choking of his own blood. Hisa moved to her next target but the older samurai moved much faster than she anticipated, the veteran samurai shifted his weight and unsheathed his blade, parrying the Hyuuga’s swift strike so that the dagger would harmlessly cut across his thick armor. The surviving samurai raised his katana and made a 45 degree overhead strike, Hisa rolled into the mud to dodge the swift strike but wasn’t fast enough as the blade cut across her left thigh. Ignoring the pain Hisa assumed the traditional gentle fist stance that all Hyuuga were known for, she gripped the dagger tightly and quickly strategized her next set of moves but the surviving samurai pulled something out of his utility belt and held it towards the sky. A flare rod. Hisa’s eyes widen with horror as she sprinted towards the warrior in hopes to stop the inevitable, it felt as if time slowed down as she leap forward to stop the inevitable but she was too late, a red flare popped out of the rod and illuminated the night sky…...

The two samurai waited for Tetsu to answer their questions but a loud pop filled the night sky and everyone turned to the right to see the night sky illuminated by a red flare. Everything after must have seemed like a blur to Tetsu as the two samurai instantaneously unsheathed their swords with masterful speed to Tetsu’s direction, one from the left and the other from the right in perfect coordination.

As soon as he heard the samurai laugh, he knew the jig was up. Without more than a hint of braggadocio, he realized it was for the best this way anyway; inevitable, since he wasn't all that great a liar and he had effectively just been caught with his pants down, and stupid anyway since his little ploy was going to add on time and complications to his mission that he very likely just couldn't afford. The time for words was over, the trio was probing Tetsu for more elaborations on the story he had given, but he knew at the outset that the thing would fall apart upon scrutiny, knew that any answers he gave now would be supplemented with the relinquishing of power, until further notice, to people that, judging by the way they scoffed at the idea of helping one of Kumo's citizens, probably didn't have a vested interest in the well-being of others here. These guys were the bad guys, and Tetsu guessed it would be okay to chop them down as a result. It was a damned shame though that his little drinking habit left him still feeling like he was moving through syrup; he would have to see how he fared under realistic battle conditions, if, you know, he made it out of this one alive.

He would have to think quickly here, and fortunately going on the offensive a fraction of a second before the cronies in front of him had would be doing him a small favour in that direction. 'One is better than three'; a simpler strategy a person could not dream of, and with a few quick slaps of articulated handseals, the boy would attempt to throw up a barrier around himself and the cloaked figure. "It's just gonna be you and me for now, boss." He said, a menacing smile creeping up his lips. He wasn't really anticipating this, but he was actually starting to have a bit of fun now that he was allowing himself to just get into it. At that very moment, Tetsu heard the pop that illuminated the sky a reddish pink colour. Was it even possible to conserve any of his energy for the shitstorm that was likely about to befall them. 'That thing means that Hisa is in trouble, huh...' He felt like a bit of a heel for getting lost here, but the knowledge that he was doing his very best, combined with the courage and irresponsibility of the drink, helped console him a little.

Whether that flare in the sky there came from the trade executive's men, or those apparently en route to prevent it's delivery, it didn't really matter. It would be shooting up in the sky to alert a large contingency of soldiers that trouble was afoot, and Tetsu and Hisa were the trouble. The trade executive's villa was now like the eye of a hurricane; the closer you got to it, the more likely you were to be ripped to pieces, and there was no way of knowing just how close Hisa already was, although he suspected she had made a little more progress than he had. All of this adds up to one thing, that the two of them were fucked. They could abandon the mission and regroup, but the way it had progressed thus far left pretty much the villa as their waypoint for meeting next, which meant that Tetsu's only option was to cut a path through an army to get to the villa, or else run away on his own as his team got cut up, and, you know, all the shame from here on out that accompanied that. 'Well, he thought, his back straightening a little at his own courage, 'Since I'm too poor and disliked to be able to lawfully flee Cloud, I guess I have no choice but to cut through these men if I ever want to escape a shitty life of shame and joblessness.' And then, aloud, as if his thoughts had broken through into the physical plain, "Forward, or death!" Okay, he may have officially been drunk, but fortunately he was a high functioning alcoholic.

Wrong Place at the Right time.

Tetsu couldn't waste any time, he had a plan but he couldn't make it happen unless he was closer to his target. He moved to the left hoping his swift movement would at least hinder one of the samurai's actions but the samurai were fast, faster then Tetsu anticipated and their coordination was unfathomable. Tetsu attempted to dodge the samurai's blades but he wasn't prepared for this duo, the blades slashed across his body spilling his blood and mixing it with the mud and rain. The samurai moved as if they were one person, once their blades tasted Tetsu's blood the samurai twirled in a circular option both flanking the Genin and preparing their blades for the final strike. Tetsu eyes widen and knew if he didn't act quickly then these random ass samurai would be the death of him, he would die for the sake of delivering a trade agreement to some rich asshole. Tetsu's hands moved with an intense and desperate fury, an enormous barrier of chakra surrounded him and the hooded figure and saved Tetsu from being cut in two. His first part of the plan had worked but now he was bleeding, weakened, and up against a foe he had no idea what they were capable of. Was this kid brave, stupid, or just drunk?

Now was phase two of Tetsu's plan, he had to affect these fools with one of his most powerful Genjutsu that he had in his arsenal if he had any chance of actually surviving this battle. He waited for some sort of reaction from the hooded figure but there was none, the taller samurai wasn’t affected either so it seemed, the only one that seemed to be affected was the small samurai and he was utterly terrified by what he saw. Tetsu then created some sort of ghost apparition, the ghost hovered over the ground it's eyes fixed on the hooded warrior but they continued to stand as still as a statue and just stare at the Genin. The ghost figure flew straight towards its target, screaming a terrifying screech as if it's sole purpose was to rip the hooded figure to shreds, it's attack made a direct hit on the figure but they still stood there as if the spirit's actions had no effect. The ghost struck the hidden person again but again no response, it seemed as though the entire forest around them went silent and the only thing that could be heard was the light rain falling to the ground.

Laughter

The hooded figure began to laugh, from a slight chuckle to a full blown laughter, it sounded like a woman’s laugh. The ghostly apparition was in bewilderment and slightly disturbed suddenly a swift motion of the mysterious enemy’s arm, Tetsu’s ghost thingy had been destroyed. The action was so subtle it honestly looked as if the hooded woman didn’t even move at all.

Hurry up and finish him before I decide to just kill all of you.” The woman said coldly to the samurai that were outside of the barrier.

Yes, madam.

The tall samurai responded as he readied his position and performed another powerful attack against the barrier he was rewarded with a large crack in the barrier. The barrier was now on the brink of collapse and the only shield to protect Tetsu against the impending onslaught was about to be taken away.

One more strike and your ass is mine boy.” The tall samurai said with a menacing grin as he readied his blade for another powerful strike.

“Water Style: Grand Waterfall Jutsu!”

Suddenly a large wave of water slammed against both the samurai and the barrier, the barrier shattered to pieces while the samurai were swept away with the water. A figure jumped in front of Tetsu and assumed a fighting position and to Tetsu’s relief it was Kaito, his outfit was completely muddied.

“Tetsu, get to the villa and deliver the scroll! I’ll handle this. I’m sure Hisa will meet you there.”

Kaito said as he swiftly performed hand seals and a clone of himself was birthed from the ground below.
d20e5b1607bf55c1133b85228147141e.jpg

The hidden figure causally removed the robe that she was wearing and it was a fairly tall woman that looked to be about six foot in height, she had brown hair and clearly had an impressive muscular build, if she wasn’t the enemy Kaito would try to get with her…..maybe he still could. The woman had a faint smile on her face as she stared at Kaito, “Tetsu is it? I’ll make it easy for you and let you get to that fat slob inside the villa. I’ll see you shortly once I am done with your handsome leader.” The woman said as she winked at the boy and stepped to the side and made a clear path for Tetsu.

OCC: Mission has increased to A rank! Also Tetsu's Nature Guard is shattered due to Kaito's jutsu.

'Oh yeah' Tetsu thought, a stream of blood, he could have sworn, spraying from his side like he was some squeezed lemon, 'Everything goes to shit...' The world hadn't changed, the same atoms held everything together, but like some theater curtain being opened wide, his view of it was suddenly expanded to include the lessons he should have learned up to this point. Things don't get better just because you want them extra hard, you don't meet challenges in the sequence with which you can handle them, and everything that really mattered, as a result, came down to luck. So here he was, the smile wiped off his face like he was some dipshit bully in the very moment when his easy win prey finally swings for a nice right hook, and lands it. He neither gets the win, nor the satisfaction of a noble loss, because, as always, he had bet all his chips on being a throbbing cock.

His Genjutsu had missed it's primary mark, his barrier holding on by a few mere threads and mere seconds after he had called on it for his protection, his demon summon was knocked out of existence like it had no place on the battlefield. It was a joke. He was a joke. And in every way he could imagine, all his tactics he thought were oh so clever as he practiced them alone in the woods were nothing in the face of sheer, brute, overwhelming power; he wasn't just going to lose here, he was being outclassed, into oblivion. He was afraid alright, he was about to become just another cheap kill for the formerly caped and cowled woman in front of him to be able to justify that ridiculous get up. Most of all though, what bothered Tetsu almost more than his impending nonexistence was the fact that he had been relegated to the role of cheap kill. Fodder for a confidence boost. That was it, all that his life added up to.

There was nothing worse than dying in the middle of an identity crisis. Could a person even get any more pathetic?

He knew, at the same time, that running was a fool's gambit. What that strategy boiled down to was a hope that the other person literally had anything better to do than to slake the earth with your blood, which was not a particularly savvy gamble to make against those who dress in gaudy outfits that cloak them in shadows. He didn't really expect that he was really making a last stand here, despite his earlier declarations, and yet here he was, without a single insightful thought to chew on and take with him before he was put into the ground. Oh well. Can't say he wouldn't have done it to some other poor schmuck.

He strengthened his resolve, or did his best to. This was really it. He hoped Hisa was able to collect both of their rewards, supposing she wasn't already dead or dying. His spine sunk toward the earth, his stance spreading out as he got ready to burst forward. And in that moment, a rush of water took out everything. At first he thought it was the other samurai, taking out the last of his barrier, but it seemed to be coming from another direction. A figure came sliding in while in the back of his mind little gears kept trying to churn out an answer. 'Another enemy...' The boy first thought, barely even putting a dent into his hopelessness, it was just more of the shitstorm in the end, and the dam had already broke. When he saw the man's face through the mud, he could barely even believe his eyes. 'Sempai... He said in a drunkenly slurred voice, the word mixed with a terrorized hope.

Before the boy could even form another coherent thought, Kaito was telling him to catch up with Hisa and to leave him behind once again, and Tetsu would be goaded on top of that and shortly after into following the man's orders by his manly-woman antagonist. Tetsu thought for a moment. 'Hmm' He could abandon his very likely stronger leader here, and if Kaito lost, he'd be just as boned as when he ran away, except now he'd have Hisa as a partner to fend the man and his goons off instead. 'Hisa' He practically snorted the thought back down to the bowels of his contempt. So no, he'd rather have Kaito as an ally here than the inept girl. If Kaito could handle himself on his own, then he'd handle himself faster with Tetsu, and they'd both be able to join up with Hisa as she's probably now being surrounded by enemies, only now the thugs who stood before Tetsu knew that the boy had a valuable scroll on his person, so there was that. Plus, just as a rule, he tried not to follow the advice his enemies gave him, especially when those enemies had a vested interest in Tetsu falling flat on his face. "Don't think so, chief" Tetsu said, holding the pulsating wound on his side, "If you die, we're fucked anyway, so let's hurry up here and you can get back to that barmaid, huh?" 'And so he could drink this shitty day out of existence,' The boy tactfully left out. Kaito would probably be pissed off, but the man was increasingly seeming like the I'll-take-everything-on-my-own-shoulders' kind of shinobi, so the boy wasn't particularly confident in the strategies he was coming up with.

“HQ. This is Lieutenant Akira, I’m requesting back up on the main road to Gaito’s villa. I’m in pursuit of a lone bandit that is enroute to Gaito, suspect is armed and dangerous and will potentially have others.” Akira said into his headset as he made his way down the main road. After questioning his mother on what happened she informed him that the intruder was looking for where Gaito’s villa was located, no doubt to rob the rich bastard but this was far more personal to Akira, the intruder had come into his home and threatened his mother!

Copy Lieutenant. Stay safe, we’re sending three units to assist.” The headset responded.

Honestly Akira felt that he could handle the situation on his own, a couple of bandits wanting to get a big fat score was something that was below Akira’s time but in this case he would personally handle it and make the little asshole who broke into his house suffer the most. He reveled in the thought of inflicting the same amount of fear that the bandit did to his mother but in this case it would be significantly worst. Akira grinned at the sinister thoughts running through his head while he was running down the main road but all of it immediately stopped when he came across two samurai and a large barrier that encased two individuals that he didn’t recognize but then once he saw the third individual a cold feeling shot through his spine

“Fre…...Freya...” were the only words that the lieutenant could form as if saying that name was a curse in itself.

Excitement and Arousal

The woman laughed so hard at the boy’s response that she was nearly brought to tears. She had given him a chance to get to his destination without harm but instead he wanted to fight along his Sempai and believed that would make a difference. How cute. “If you want to die alongside your handsome leader then by all means.” The woman said as she threw the rob she was wearing aside and a shot a slight smirk across her face. Then after really looking at the older man and looking past the mud and dirt that covered his attire she recognized who he was.
“Kaito Senju of the Hidden Cloud. I must say this is the last place I would expect to see you and I’m even more surprised that you decided to become a Sempai again…….I guess failing your last team wasn’t enough huh.” The woman said still sporting her malicious smirk across her face. Kaito’s mind raced at trying to figure out who this woman was but he couldn’t put a name to her face but somehow she knew his name and what happened to his team long ago...

“Do I know you?” Kaito asked, still figuring out how in the hell this woman was.

“No, but I know who you are and that’s all that matters. We met briefly in the land of tea two years ago.”

Kaito’s memories flashed before him in an effort for him to recognize who she was but still he couldn’t figure it out, although her physical features were familiar in some way but he couldn’t put his finger on it. “You seem to know a lot about me but I don’t know a thing about you. Why don’t you have some manners and tell me who you are.” Kaito said as his wood clone etched a few steps in front of Tetsu in order to block him from any surprising attacks.

“Freya….. Freya Hataki.” The woman said.

“Freya Hataki….” Kaito thought to himself as he continued to comb through his memories in order to put the name and face together to somehow bring the memory to light of remembering who this woman was and then suddenly as if Kaito was struck with a bolt of lightning he realized who this woman was and his eyes widen with gut wrenching fear. While Kaito was momentarily dumbfounded he didn’t even notice the barrier Tetsu created around them. The woman’s smirk turned into a full grin.

“Now that’s the expression I was looking for.”

Kaito turned to Tetsu and yelled, “You got to get the hell out of here righ-.” Before he could finish the woman had instantly appeared right next to Kaito, she moved so quick that Tetsu nor Kaito were able to react appropriately. Freya grabbed Kaito’s waist with both her arms and picked him up like a rag dog and slammed him into the ground behind her, rocks and mud flew as the impact of Freya’s suplex created a small crater. Kaito’s clone sprung into action and summoned multiple wooden tendrils from the ground that aimed right for Freya. Freya released her grip of Kaito and jumped into the air once she saw the tendrils speed towards her, she moved her body through the air dodging the wooden tendrils, she landed on the ground believing that she had dodged them all but was took slightly by surprise as two more tendrils erupted from the ground and grazed her torso.

“Clever…but you’ll need to do much better than that.” Freya said as she then mentally felt a slight push. Her eyes burrowed and looked over to Tetsu, “Still don’t know your place in all this huh?” The woman said as she performed a unique set of handseals and created some sort of black dust that shot over and slammed into Tetsu and sent him flying into the barrier.

“Stay in the corner till I’m ready to deal with you.” She said as she realigned her focus to Kaito as he jumped out of the crater and momentarily regained his balance and composure from the sudden attack Freya had just delivered. Kaito’s hands moved and created large wooden tendrils that erupted from the ground and impaled Freya throughout her body, Kaito smiled but to his disappointment Freya body switched out of harm. Freya made one handsign and suddenly the large tendril exploded, the shockwave of the explosion slammed into Kaito throwing him back into the mud and thrusting Tetsu’s body against the barrier again. Freya continued to put the pressure by weaving more handseals and summoning forth more of the unique black dust she used earlier however this seemed to be emitting from her body and covered the entire arena that the barrier created.

Kaito pushed himself back into the fight but felt something was off, he looked over to his wood clone and saw that it was literally breaking apart, then suddenly his body spasmed severely and the intense pain brought him down to one knee. Kaito’s breathing began to get heavy and he knew that if he had any chance of getting out of this alive then he would have to entirely focus on Freya and fight seriously and not worry about Tetsu.

“Particle Destabilization Jutsu. A jutsu that is unique in where the dust rapidly begins to react to everything around me and slowly destroys matter on a molecular scale, breaking it apart and slowly disintegrating it. Slowly every cell within your body becomes seared with pain and the black dust slowly destabilizes your structure. I thought you’d be more entertaining then this Kaito, your disappointing me.

Freya said as she shook her head in disappointment. Kaito gritted his teeth and pushed himself off the ground then vanished and appeared right behind Freya, Freya gasped as she wasn’t prepared for the Jounin’s sudden movement. She turned around to see Kaito’s arm morphed into stone but was too late to stop anything as his fist slammed violently into Freya’s stomach. The woman coughed out blood from the impact of the strike that sent her flying into the ground hurling earth and debris everywhere from the massive impact.

“I know she felt that one….”

Kaito said as he assumed his body into a defensive stance, prepared for what was to come next. The temperature started suddenly drop and then a burst of energy erupted from the crater that Freya was in as rocks flew in all directions. Freya rose from the crater, blood trickling down her mouth, her fist tightened as she let out an otherworldly scream as her chakra intensified and the sheer intensity of it pushed Kaito back.

“What Devastating Chakra…. Is this her full power!? I gotta finish this fight fast.” Kaito thought to himself.

Freya sprinted towards Kaito with an unfathomable speed, Kaito attempted to strike her again with his stone encased arm but Freya ducked out of the way and collided her elbow against the side of Kaito’s knee. Kaito buckled from her strike and was completely unbalanced, Freya comboed multiple jabs and hooks across Kaito’s body and reversed kicked Kaito sending him slamming against the barrier next to Tetsu.

“Your going to have to do a lot better than that if you intend to kill me and my other half…” Freya said as she weaved a set of hand signs not intending to give the duo anytime to recover. She sensed a familiar chakra and looked to her left to see Lieutenant Akira of the Yakanai police force standing a few feet away from the samurai. Her lips curled to another sly smile, “Looks like all the boys want a piece of me today.” Freya said as she got more aroused at the prospect of entertaining herself further.

“Kaito Senju of the Hidden Cloud. I must say this is the last place I would expect to see you and I’m even more surprised that you decided to become a Sempai again…….I guess failing your last team wasn’t enough huh.”

Tetsu reeled back in disgust when he heard the woman's words. "All this bitch can do,"</I><i></i> He grumbled while gripping his bleeding sides, "Is flirt with an old boyfriend while I'm standing here bleeding to death?!"<i></i> Was Tetsu really that much of an extra here? Goddamn, and was Kaito that Godly that all this girl could think of when she saw him again, covered in mud and trying to kill her, was how much she missed their little sparring sessions?

"Do I know you?" Oof. Not the way to respond to that, even if it was funny. The woman went on, "No, but I know who you are and that’s all that matters. We met briefly in the land of tea two years ago." At which point, Tetsu really couldn't hold back any longer, nudging Kaito slightly and mumbling, <I>"I'm going to die from cringing here, can't you just tell her you've moved on?" Well, in any event, so long as the two adults were chatting, maybe Tetsu could set the battlefield up at a nice, leisurely pace while he tried to rest just a little. Ah, the luxuries you get from battle banter.

He threw up a barrier, hoping to do something that wouldn't aggravate the boss too much here. It wouldn't be long, however, before the eye of the storm had passed, and Tetsu and Kaito would be thrown right back into the fighting, with the older man trying to make another (interrupted) plea for Tetsu to leave. The boy hated to see himself like the damsel in distress in all of this, with Kaito now getting distracted enough by the boy's uselessness to open himself up for an attack. As the two were engaged in a brutal slugfest, and despite that little nagging conscience telling him to join the fray, Tetsu allowed himself a moment to think about what was actually required to win the fight. It wasn't that he thought he could come out with some dazzlingly clever plan of victory, but more that he saw the hopes of this particular fight ending in his favor diminishing with each passing second.

Their goal, he thought, was not to defeat this woman, or the samurai trailing along with her. In fact, those two didn't even necessarily represent direct obstacles to their mission objective; the beefed-up woman wanted to stop Tetsu, not prevent the transit of the message; in fact, it seemed like the woman wasn't even aware that he or Kaito had an important document on either of their persons. She might have known, it was possible, but she didn't exactly name the trade agreement when she demanded he turn out his pockets. He needed, he thought, to get that document to this Gaito character, at a Villa that was likely to be pretty conspicuous this far out from civilization. He didn't need to be there himself. He wouldn't have any trouble putting it in transit either, but doing so inconspicuously was another matter.

If he could summon his crystal eye around the trade document, he could try flying it to where it needed to be. Being up in the clouds and descending vertically on the villa should evade the attention of any patrols, as there generally isn't much in the sky that you have to really look out for, but getting it past his immediate enemies might prove to be a little more difficult. Tetsu followed the change in trajectory of the woman's voice as she bragged about all the boys wanting to come play, and noticed a police get-up filled out by some semblance of a man. Seems like that little domestic abuse situation was being looked into pretty quickly; no chance this was the backup to any samurai, after all. Another out, in any event. He called out to the cop; "Hey you, these guys aren't really the type to leave witnesses lying around, so think carefully about what you do next."

BBQ Anyone?

Hisa spun around the samurai’s blade only barely dodging it, her fight with the samurai was proving more difficult than she anticipated, the warrior was clearly a veteran in fighting and had more years of experience and training under his belt then Hisa did. Hisa countered the warrior’s attack with the Hyuuga’s famous sixteen palm strike, Hisa’s strikes became more intense with each hit that she landed against the samurai, with a final strike she sent the flying samurai back against a nearby tree, splintering it with the intense impact.

“Yes! Finally.” Hisa thought to herself as the samurai looked unresponsive from the series of hits. “Now, I can get to the villa and finally complete this damn mission.” Hisa said as she turned around to make her way to the villa.

“I didn’t say you could leave.”

Hisa stopped in her tracks and turned around to face the samurai, in her astonishment she witnessed the samurai rising to his feet, looking as if he wasn’t even effected by Hisa’s attacks. “You should be dead…. I hit you with all sixteen strikes..” Hisa said in disbelief. The samurai dusted off debris on his armor and then patted his armor with the hilt of his sword.

“This armor is infused with a protective layer of chakra. In my country I encounter a lot of you wretched Hyuugas, so with the help of a renown blacksmith I created a piece of armor that is specifically tailored to numbing the effects of the Heavenly psalm strike. Without your precious Heavenly Psalm Strike, you Hyuuga are worthless!” The samurai said, he dashed towards Hisa ramming his armoured shoulder into her, sending the young Genin into the muddy ground, the samurai followed up with a downward attack aimed at Hisa looking to impale her body into the earth. Hisa’s eyes widen, she instinctively rolled over to the side missing the tip of the blade. The samurai grinned as he anticipated Hisa to make such a move, he slashed his blade across the mud in where it finally made contact with her body. Hisa screamed in agony as the blade cut through Hisa’s clothes, skin, and muscle leaving a large gash across her shoulder. Hisa stumbled to her feet and placed her hand on her wounded shoulder in order to keep pressure on the wound but dropped to her knee from the intense pain the wound caused her.

“Damn it, I should have rolled the other way to avoid the sharp side of the blade….Hisa you dumbass.”

The samurai laughed knowing that the battle was over and victory was his. “Now, time to add another dead Hyuuga to the list!” The samurai said charging towards Hisa.

“I only have one last chance! This has to work.” Hisa thought to herself as she got back on her feet and raced towards the samurai as well. The warrior made a diagonal strike towards the Genin, Hisa ducked under the blade, the blade sliced off two inches of her blonde hair but Hisa successfully dodged the end of the blade but only barely. The samurai bore a sinister grin and twisted the sword in his hand, angling the blade to reverse strike Hisa in the back.

“Die!” The samurai said as the blade raced toward Hisa. Hisa quickly grabbed a handful of mud from the ground and threw it in the warrior’s face, the blade’s trajectory moved just slightly off target. Hisa moved out of the way of the attack and took advantage of the samurai’s impaired eyesight and climbed onto the front of the Samurai’s armor and took a breath in.

Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu.

Hisa spewed a large ball of fire that engulfed the man’s face, the man screamed in utter agony as his face began to melt from the intense heat and the smell of seared flesh filled the surrounding arena. The samurai’s lifeless corpse collapsed to the ground, his face completely unrecognizable and seared from the fireball. Hisa climbed off the samurai, the sight of the warrior’s face accompanied by the nauseating smell of burnt flesh made Hisa vomit. She intensified her Byakugon and saw Tetsu and Kaito together facing off against some woman, she began to make her way towards them, running as fast as she could so she can help her team fight against whatever enemy they were facing.

End of the Line

Akira recognized who the boy was once he started talking to him, it was the intruder that nearly killed his mother! Anger swept across Akira and nearly took him over but then suddenly a burst of Freya’s chakra pushed back a few feet and knew that the boy’s punishment had to come another time, right now he had to focus on Freya and the two samurai. Akira took another closer look at the man that was fighting Freya and he recognized the cloud Jonin attire that he was wearing.

“Cloud Shinobi. This far out here?” Akira said in bewilderment wondering why Cloud shinobi were sent this far out into the countryside near the border. He shook his head, “No, those answers have to come later. Right now I have to focus on defeating Freya, no matter how impossible that sounds.” Akira looked up to the sky and his eyes began to turn to a bright yellow, the rain intensified and soon it began to hail, striking everyone that was on the battlefield.

[Akira uses Storm Control - Strom Jutsu -Hail.]

Akira turned his gaze over to the samurai that managed to get up and face the lieutenant weapons ready to redeem themselves from their embarrassing performance earlier. Akira noticed that their armour was drenched with water and they were standing in a large puddle of water. Akira grinned, “You guys make it too easy for me.” He rose his hand to the sky then pointed two fingers to the samurai duo, his body started to ache but Akira ignored it. Suddenly a massive bolt of lightning descended from the clouds, engulfing the area that the samurai were in and obliterating the duo. Freya grinned at the opportunity that was presented before her, could this fight finally be the one that she was looking for? A fight in where she would finally have worthy opponents and would push her to her absolute limit, she could only hope of that fantasy coming true but she had a job to do and she was merely stalling to make sure no one would interfere with her plan.

[Akira Uses Raijins Vengeance against samurai Critical Hit! +15% damage from Santaru BL passive, +15% from Samurai standing in water, +20% from Samurai drenched in water.]

Boom

Tetsu’s crystal eye made it’s way inside the villa, finding its way directly into Gaito’s office. The business man nearly fell out of his chair at the sight of an eye hovering over his desk but noticed that there was a scroll in between the eye. The eye began to deteriorate and the scroll landed on the desk. Gaito grabbed the scroll and began to unravel it, he adjusted his glasses and began to read, to his surprise it was the trade agreement from the Cloud village that he was expecting although he was expecting a cloud representative to hand him the agreement and not an eyeball. He grabbed his pen from his desk and began to sign the dotted lines that were scattered across the scroll, Gaito rose from his chair and made his way downstairs to his personal messenger hawk. He attached the agreement to the hawk’s leg and opened it’s cage, the bird flew off, making its way to Cloud village to deliver the signed agreement. Gaito looked outside and saw that there was a strange man standing in the middle of his yard, he yelled out “Guards, who is that man!?” Gaito’s guards ran out and began to surround the man, their weapons in hand ready to apprehend the mysterious man. The man laughed boldly and clapped his hands together. “For the beloved goddess Freya!!” The man yelled cultishly as he slapped his hands to the ground. The ground began to rumble and then with a spectacular flash of light the villa exploded.

A large explosion erupted from where the villa was located and a large ash cloud filled the sky to where the villa was located. Freya smiled, “You served me well Binto.” Kaito and Akira looked in disbelief wondering what exactly had just happened.

“Freya, what did you just do?” Kaito asked, still in disbelief by how large the explosion must have been to create an ash cloud that large. Freya answered, “I did what was necessary for the good of my people. You’ll begin to appreciate me once everything has fallen into place. I would love to finish our dance but I have other tasks that need my attention.” Freya immediately noticed Tetsu weaving handsigns, she darted over to him grabbing his face and slamming it into the ground. Kaito swiftly formed handseals and moved to Freya’s blindspot, lightning began to form around his left hand, “Chidori!” Kaito yelled as he attempted to thrust his hand through Freya’s back. Suddenly a black liquidish glob formed around Freya’s back and a tendril shot out from it piercing through the upper left side of Kaito’s chest. Kaito gasped in pain as the tendril began to lift him up from the hole that it created and then it threw him off to the side and disappeared back into Freya’s body. Akira raised his hands to the sky trying to gather as much chakra as he could in attempt to kill Freya right here, right now. Suddenly Akira collapsed over as the ache within his body began to intensify rapidly,

“What the hell is going on?” Akira said as his body aches became more heavy, the pain was too much and akira dropped to his knees trying to focus his chakra in order to complete his jutsu but to no avail.

“You showed up late to the party Akira, my jutsu permeated the area before you arrived, once you entered it’s radius it was only a matter of time before my dust would began to accumulate inside your body.” Freya responded as she walked up to Akira and knelled down in front of him, “It’s been a long time since we were face to face lieutenant….It be a shame to end your life now.” She grabbed his hair and pulled it in order for him to look directly in her eyes, “I want you to see my plan’s culmination before I drain the life out of your eyes. Only then will our cat and mouse game come to and end.” She finished, she looked over to see a group of police make their way over in her direction. Freya made a handseal and began to dematerialize into black dust and disperse.

“Lieutenant!” an officer cried out as she ran over to Akira to check on him. She looked over to Tetsu and Kaito bruised and beaten, noticing the Cloud headband that Kaito wore on his forehead. “Their cloud shinobi, get them medical attention now! Search the area and create a perimeter.” She yelled. She focused back on Akira and began performing medical jutsu in order to stabilize him.

“Sergeant! There is another cloud shinobi over here in the forest, she’s passed out and losing a lot of blood from a large cut wound.” An officer yelled out.

“Bring her to me, quickly! Once I stabilize her we need to get them back to the city and get to the hospital.” The sergeant yelled out and then noticed a large ash cloud coming from Gaito’s villa. “That must be where we heard the explosion come from, send a squad out there and see what the hell happened!” She looked down to Akira once more,

“Just what the hell is going on here Lieutenant?”

To be continued

Mud and blackness erupted in a shimmering display of fireworks as Tetsu's face cracked into the earth. It didn't matter. He saw, with his only good eye, the trade agreement reach it's destination. Nothing else really mattered so long as he could simply live after this. His pride was left in tact, despite the hopelessness with which he saw it dragged through the mud for the better part of this wretched evening. He found his nagging concerns over Hisa start to slip through his fingers involuntarily, like the thought was made of sand, now succumbing to the simple effects of a loosening grip.

It felt like the end, but he really was clinging to the edges of consciousness. He had done his part, and no one could take that away from him. Somehow though, he just could not imagine a situation where he had enough of a reserve of energy to see all this through to an escape. Running away could be a much easier task than staying to fight, if you still had some capability to block a pursuit, and also only if you had a little help along the way. Tetsu would have to find some way to drag Kaito away from the fight without letting on that the crew they were running from had very possibly just suffered a critical loss. If these people were trying to obstruct the delivery of the agreement, which Tetsu didn't know. In fact, he had no idea, in his infinite exhaustion, why or how this had all transpired at all. A battle that seemed totally purposeless, except at this final point, to mark the boy as the very cleverest one on the battlefield, having won despite being at a clear... physical disadvantage.

In any event, he felt wave after wave of relief fall upon him, first at the sight of that cop seeming to side with him against the enigmatic woman named Freya, then with Freya herself seeming to give up out of... Boredom? It was tough to say exactly, but her departure from the battlefield marked a similar departure of any care Tetsu had for unraveling that particular mystery. And here, too, support was coming up, seemingly to care for everyone still present. It was, in every sense of the word, a victory. Tetsu saw the large explosion, and a feint concern descended upon him for Hisa (he hadn't even considered the possibility that the trade agreement might have been in jeopardy. The dissolution of his perilous situation took with it any concern he might have had for literally anything outside of that. The backlog of trauma that his body had endured seemed to be tapped in, as if by intuition, to his circumstances and the alertness they demanded. Each lifted mental concern seemed to be replaced with a physical burden, as if stones were pulling on each of his limbs, threatening to drag him down to the deepest depths of an imaginary ocean.

With his last bit of strength, he dragged his feet over to Kaito, yanked him by his collar, and punched him as hard as he could across the face. "You bastard... I hope hiring Genin saved you enough money..." It wasn't articulate, it wasn't all he wanted to say, but it would be all he could slip in before he would lose himself in the embrace of sleep.
