Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

A crackle of thunder roar against the frozen air of the Mountains, the sight of lighting have greeted the travelers moments earlier. It seemed as if those traveling the Thunder Mountains, would first have to be on the look of for the storm overhead. It seemed like the perfect weather that would draw the attention of the mythical Lightening Bird. Shin’s coat seemed to fly slightly in the wind, the rest of it covering his body to conserve warmth, as his hand greatly warm his combat gloves in an attempt to keep out the cold. His felt the crunching of snow underfoot as he hiked up the massive mountain, his eyes darting to make a sense of the scenery that greeted him. Snow seemed to cover every inch of the mountain, some of it catching the wind brought on by the storm the brushing against his coat. He breathe in the cold air as they attempt to drawn out of the sight of thunder in the distance. They still had quite a while to go before the storm could be seen as a threat, though it rather seemed fitting to try and find such a beast within these conditions.

Shin paused for a moment to glance back at the boy he was partner with, his mind trying to make sense of Rirakkusu. The last time they had meant, he found the lack of drive in the boy or any forms of ambition…rather lacking. Yet he seem quiet capable of master an advance element. If he had someone push him off the cliff, imagine what the boy could accomplish within the correct motivation. Maybe that is what this search would do for him, especially regarding the legend behind it. The creature had manage to wear down Raiden, a walking god. If hunting something as impressive and dangerous didn’t drive him, Shin didn’t know what would.

Facing back to the front, he walking slowly as he attempted to track something other than the Bird. This hunt might take a while, and he knew that somewhere they might be sources of food they could find to keep up their energy as they continue their ascend up the mountains. That and he wasn’t attempting to start another fight with the boy, he’d allow him the first words, if any, before offering any advice. That and Shin didn’t need to be distracted while he looked for food. The less time fighting, would hopefully let them find something soon.

Out of all the places that they could've gone, this crazy bastard chose here. No one ever comes here! Unless their either insane (which Shin apparently is) or looking to die. Not only did they come to the mountain range that's so tall that it's actually called the spine of the world, they also came to the part of this mountain range that almost always has some kind of deadly storm going on. Ri wouldn't be surprised if the reason they might violate the rules of the one day pass'll be because they died in this hell hole... Not only that, but he also made for a horrible traveling companion. There were no conversations, he was constantly walking ahead of his partner (which irritated the hell out Ri), and he kept looking back like he wanted him to start a damn conversation! If you're going to take the lead, then at least talk first and start one yourself. The shinobi sighed as they continued to walk through the snow. The feeling of getting stuck every five seconds was a familiar one... Almost like this had happened before. Which was probably because it did only with a really hot material instead of a really cold one.

Maybe he just had a knack for going places that were absolutely awful for someone wearing wooden sandals, or maybe people just liked torturing him and bring him to those places for that reason alone. Whatever the reason was for his suffering, he was suffering, and was absolutely hating it. Not only were his sandals getting stuck every step he took, his feet were slowly being frozen along with the rest of his body. He's been used to Kumo's usual temperature of "cold as hell" which is a feat all on it's own, but this was just too cold for light clothing. Even Shin, who was wearing heavy clothing, was having a hard time keeping warm. Thankfully though, Ri had just the thing for this kind of situation. Speeding up as much as he could without falling face first into the snow, Ri caught up with Shin and began making some hand seals slowly.

"Try and keep your distance, or you'll get burnt." He said as he finished making the last seal. A molten aura would begin to form around him, giving off intense heat, and essentially turning him into a living heater. This would've been nice for the both of him, if exactly what he was trying to avoid before hadn't happened right when the temperature began rising. Since they were so high up in the mountains, most of the "ground" they were walking on was just really compact snow. This meant that Ri got to have a nice dip in the freezing material because the "ground" beneath him melted rapidly and made him fall face first into the snow anyways. So now he was cold, wet, and still just as miserable as he's been since they first arrived.

Ri's brow furrowed as he stood up and brushed off whatever snow hadn't already melted and been absorbed by his clothing, then he continued walking a little faster than before because of his frustration. "Well fuck it then..." He mumbled. Everything at this point was just annoying him. His clothes were wet, his feet were getting stuck still, the lightning was nearly bursting his ear drums every time it struck the surface, and it was still cold. At this point, the only thing that he thought could make up for all of this, was the lightning bird being an actual thing and not just some legend. After all, if the damn thing was going to be anywhere, why not be in a place with a similar name? "Lightning Bird," "Lightning Mountains," both were equally unoriginal, why wouldn't the beast be drawn to this place?

That was just him being annoyed at the situation though, if the bird really did exist, a mountain that basically has a constant storm going on seemed like the perfect place for it to be. As he began to think of it logically, Ri slowed down a bit and noticed that Shin was looking at the ground instead of the sky. "Wouldn't you find a giant bird faster if you're looking up, not down?" He asked after watching him for a bit. It made sense if he was just trying not to trip over anything or step off of any cliffs, but any other reason might be kind of strange. After all, they were only allowed out here for a day, Ri's gone a day without food before. So unless they ended up going on some wild chase through the mountains, it was unlikely they would be using much energy.

Shin managed to push the hair out of his face as he continued glancing at the ground, his blue eyes scans for any signs of animal presence or leftover residue from them. Even in the thick of the storm, some creatures had to come out and eat, regardless of the lack of proper weather condition. Before he could continuing his search, Shin heard the movement to his left as he turned to look at Rirakkusu, noticing the boy going through rapid movement of hand signs. He hadn't looked up much from his work, trying to track any signs of animal life that they could find or just footprints in general. He looked at the boy through the corner of his eyes as he began to hear his voice.

Shita Rirakkusu said:
"Try and keep your distance, or you'll get burnt."

Within in moments he could feel the chill wind being replaced with the warm heat of what happen to be lava surrounding Rirakkusu. Which in all have received a thank you from Shin, had the molten wonder, not suddenly caused the ground beneath him to melt in such a fashion that he feel face forward. Which in itself would have been a humorous sight if while falling, the boy aura didn’t part off part of his coat. Shin’s knuckles began cracking as he attempted to calm himself down, his blue eyes narrowing slightly as he looked down at the boy predicament. An accident…just a harmless…accident. While it was true that he was attempting to keep friendly with the other shinobi, the mere fact that he so happen to stumble and burn his coat was causing his blood to boil slightly. Of all the emotions he had control of, angry was not one of them. He breathe out the cold air as he waited as unfortunate shinobi, began getting of the small puddle he had made, his attention being drawn back towards the ground. He could have helped out Rirakkusu and probably kept the mood semi-okay, but with the cold wind pouring in on half of his side, the trainee really doubted that that helping of saying any words at this moment would be the best thought. Even irritated, Shin knew enough about his triggers to know when one would snap. Focusing back on the task at hand, he began noticing very faint foot prints in the snow ahead of them, yet his eyes couldn't get a clear glance of them. Perhaps if he...
Shita Rirakkusu said:
"Wouldn't you find a giant bird faster if you're looking up, not down?"

Stopping, he turned and looked at Rirakkusu before glancing back at what he had been looking at to prior. Which know was covered by a fresh breeze of snow. Shin felt a small popping sound as he made his hands return towards his side before he turn and spoke to the boy, whose interruption had thrown him off. Letting at a small breath of air he began speaking, making sure to calm his blood back down.

"Apologizes Ri...I was attempting to find any tracks of animals within our location. While we have only a day to find the bird, if such a large creatures exist, then it has to find some thing big enough to eat. That and climbing up this mountain going to burn up some energy, something we might need if we do come across this bird. But, I…should have probably discussed this with you while I was searching. But first this wind..."

Nothing wanting to fully admit he was wrong in not attempt to speak with his partner, he began looking forward before sucking in a deep breath of the air, the cold wind burning his lungs as he began infusing it with chakra. Within seconds let he releashed the breath, causing the air that had been blowing on them to die down, at least for a few minutes. Without having the harsh air making it hard for him to see, he turn his attention back at the boy before speaking once again.

“If you have any suggestions, I’m open to them. Though it might be best to get to a part of the mountain without as much snow. But, your lead.”

If giving up lead, meant keeping the peace, the trainee would do just so he could get this hunt down and get his coat repaired. Sometimes even the simplest of things ended up beginning nightmares in the making.

Ri watched as Shin actually managed to temporarily stop the wind from blowing on them, and was actually mildly impressed by the sight. "Oooooo." Was the only noise he bothered making, accompanied by a slowish clap to show he wasn't being entirely sarcastic. It was certainly nice having the wind out of his face, now it would feel a bit warmer until the wind picked back up and continued annoying the two of them. After he finished stopping the wind, Shin told Ri that he could take the lead if he wanted. This wasn't actually actually what he wanted to happen when he suggested that his partner should look at the sky instead of the ground, as being a leader meant he'd have to do a lot more to contribute to the hunt. But if Shin really wanted to find some food, who was he to say no? "Tell ya what, if you think we need some food for the day, then keep on looking for an animal. Since our main objective out here is to find a giant, probably flashy bird, that's what I'll keep an eye out for. My eyesight's been getting pretty bad lately, so I'd be kind of useless if I had to look for any tracks in the snow." Though he wouldn't admit this, Ri has actually been doing nothing but finding little things to complain about all day. He has put forth no effort to find any kind of food, and definitely no effort toward trying to find some mythical bird from an old legend.

After giving both of the shinobi a job to do, Ri motioned for Shin to go ahead of him. "It would be bad if I covered up any tracks with my own, you go ahead." Not only did he actually think that he might cover up some tracks, but if he ever thought that the search was pointless, then he could simply stop without being scolded for not doing the job he assigned himself. Looking up at a sky with constant flashes of lightning was already something that is rather unpleasant, and when that's mixed with snow that invades his eye holes, which left him with an unpleasant burning sensation, it made for a job that is quite irritating. Whenever Shin kept moving, Ri would begin following close behind. Why was he close? Not even Ri knew, he just felt like being close for whatever reason.

A few minutes filled with crunching snow and awkward silence passed, and Ri was now even more bored than he had been when they first got to the Thunder Mountains. There had to be something he could do, something to distract him from the monotony of the situation... But what? Ri happened to have just the thing, and he spent no time thinking about whether he should or shouldn't do this thing. So he started humming. No specific tune came from his lips however, just random tones of humming that made whatever noises sounded good to him at the time. The genin would keep this up for only a short amount of time though, as he remembered what humming got him into the last time he did it... Even though the experience was painful at the time, now it is just an annoying reminder of what might happen if he gets distracted by himself. After stopping, he let out a slightly exaggerated sigh, then continued to watch the sky. By this point, the effect of Shin's jutsu had worn off, and the wind and snow were once again a factor that gradually pushed Ri's tolerance level closer and closer to, "done with everything."

As the awkward silence slowly began to eat at Ri, he decide it would be a great idea to start asking Shin about his darkest secrets. "So, if we're going to be stuck with each other for the day, why don't we get to know each other better?" It almost sounded like Ri was trying to hold himself back as he said this, likely because it wasn't at all like him to do so, "And I don't mean crap like, 'my favorite color is purple!' or anything like that, I mean on a personal level." Again, it sounded like he was about to have to start strangling himself with how awkward he made the suggestion sound. He didn't even know much about the only person he could consider a closish friend, aside from the fact that he was able to be used as a human grenade in case of emergencies, but that's not really anything "deep."

"I guess I'll let you choose who goes first..." This is what he considered to be the smartest thing he's said all day, especially since Shin's been trying to be polite. If he keeps trying, then maybe he'll volunteer to go first, and depending on how much he actually chooses to say, there's not telling how long it would take him! This meant there would be a higher chance they would encounter something that would actually be exciting, and Ri wouldn't have to bullshit his way through the day. No awkward situation, no need to think about his life just so he could tell someone about it, and no boredom! Ri would laugh like an evil villain if he didn't know he'd feel stupid right after...

Shin gave a short nod as he continue to look out for any footprints in the snow. Without of the wind blowing up the substances into their faces, he could see a lot more clear than before. It seemed as if the mood was becoming better without the constant wind bearing down on them. As they continued their ascend upwards, he looked at Ri as the other boy began humming. It wasn’t the best…but at least it kept the other shinobi occupied. The less time arguing meant the quicker this event could be done. Shin tracking abilities seemed to be very limited in this location however. Even without the wind, the sheer amount of the snow would blind during his searches onto the ground. So far he found a single pair of footprints, but they had been quickly vanished. This mountain wasn’t the best choice, even if the rumors about the bird coming here are true. While currently they had been making progress, they were hardly equipped to be handing this type of atmosphere nor terrain. Even if his jutsu could keep the wind out for some time, they still had to deal with all this snow surround them. If they could locate an opening in the mountain that was dry, they could warm up for a few minutes before they continued their search.

As heavy sandals crunched against white terrain, a single flash light up the sky, drawing the man’s attention to the air. A few moments later, he could feel the wind picking up again, the chill returning to his body. As if to make a statement, the booming thunder rang into his ears, causing some of the snow to roll pass them as the mountain gave a small shake in respond. As the continued walking in silence, the boy Ri began speaking again; causing the trainee to stop and look at him. Apparently this was an attempt to make small talk while the waited, though the topic did give pause to the man. Topic about personal matters were rather reserved for closer friends, and Shin didn’t know much at the boy to considered him more than an acquaintance. Though, it is rather beneficial to make some relationship within my former branch. It was true, the Ri was possibly the closer thing to a comrade he knew in the village outside the ANBU, but he wasn’t sure how to proceed.

“I’ll go first” Shin spoke, once again pushing his hair back and showing off the small horns in his head. He was beginning put on the spot, and he was unsure currently about the true motivate of the small talk. I can reveal something about family, and he already knows I'm part demon but anything else is reserved until I’m sure I can trust him. These thoughts passed in a matter of seconds, so the boy Ri would have already notice his lack of speak.

“I’m not sure if you remember, but I am partially demonic, the horns a small gift from my mother’s side. I can't saw truly that I a social person, my blood rather makes it difficult to make connections when it the feeling of evil is rolling off of you. But it rather useful as a shinobi. It's only gift I can say she gave me, apart from this scar and this...” Shin revealed part of his neck, saw a very large but no faint mark. His forehead then move slightly, opening up to reveal another eye before closing quickly.

“Don’t get me wrong, she wasn’t a bad person, and I do have high respect for her abilities. But it hard to build up a connection to a person who left you at the age of eight. Kurogane Achimou, my father, he’s different. Even with the harsh things he did to prepare me for this life, I’m grateful for having his mentor-ship. I think my ability to overcome those lessons are part of the reason he began lossing the trauma he had receive during his active time as shinobi. It's also part reason I’m so dedicated to this village. I...don't want anyone else to end up having to deal with that sort of trauma he faced. Once I reached Genin, he began building up a distance between us. Either as some sort of guilt or as a way to repair himself as a person; seeing that he no longer need to feel threaten for my safety. But...”

The trainee paused for a moment, the normal coldness in which he addressed his family wasn’t there. Odd enough, he seemed to be feeling a sense of ease to get this off his chest. But that’s wasn’t the only thing that gave him pause. His father had changed, and it seem just now that he was beginning to understand why. There was one single person he knew that his father trusted and it seemed as though Shin would need to question the pariah about it.

“Achimou need that time to heal himself, and though we aren’t as close as we had been, it’s easy to see the changes in him. Though now I’m not really sure if it was due to showing him I didn’t require his training anymore or something else. But I believe that's enough about me. What of Ri? ”
He wondered what information Ri to reveal to him, attempting to keep attention on him and drowning out the sounds of wind and thunder. Hopefully the boy spoke with something meaningful. Gaining insight on the boy might explain his lack of drive and it could be something he could use to push him. Though with his personality, Shin wasn't certain.

Fukideru & Fukidasu

"Yeah! What about you Ri?" Small voices could be heard, just inches away from the foot Shin was about to place on the ground. Shin's distracted monologue had been enough to divert his attention from his search, and he moved back to analyze what was almost squished underfoot. Sitting side by side were two slugs, about nine inches long. It was understandable that Shin hadn't noticed them earlier. They were both grayscale in color, making them blend in perfectly with the snow-covered rocks scattered about the ground. The horn-like tentacles on their heads twitched with anticipation. "Sharing is caring!" They seemed eager to hear more about the two shinobi, and it wasn't until one gave a small shiver that they noticed how cold they were. "Oooooooh my gosh! You guys are cold huh? Well why don't we get you somewhere warmer? There should be a cave a little ways up over there." The slug without a ridge on its back pointed with its head to its left. The other slug chimed in. "But...uh...it will be slow going if we have to move on our own, so if you guys could give us a hand." They looked up at the young males, seeing if they would carry them or not. If the boys did pick up the slugs, they would find themselves slimier than they probably ever wanted to be. "Oh, introductions are important. I'm Fukideru." The slug with a keel on his back gave a bow of his head. "And I'm Fukidasu. It is a pleasure." The one with extra tentacles upon its neck also gave a bow. "Shall we?" Whether being carried or not, the slugs would direct the shinobi to warmth.

The small voice pissed Ri off for a moment, was Shin trying to mock him now? He just listened to his story, and now he was going to try and mock him right before he told his own. That dick is going to get what's coming to him if he doesn't sto- Oh, apparently it was a talking slug... Did he have too much to drink? Did he have anything to drink at all? There were several things that are wrong with the picture in front of Ri, one, there are a couple of slugs on top of a giant, snowy mountain. Two, these two slugs are grey and blend in perfectly with said mountain. And three, THE SLUGS ARE TALKING. He'd blame heat stroke, but he wasn't in the desert anymore, so that wouldn't really make any sense right now would it? "Shin... If you're seeing this as well, let's just assume these things are real and go with the flow..." The shinobi had no idea why he actually accepted the fact that there were two talking slugs on a giant stormy mountain, but if he was going to be a little more insane than usual, then why not do what they're telling him to do.

"I guess we'll listen to you and go to this cave, you two seem to know your way around here. I think." The last part was mumbled, and he picked up Fukidasu soon after saying it. The creature was uncomfortably slimy, so he decided the best place for it right now, was on top of his hat. So he placed it in the center of his rice hat, which was on top of his head, and began walking toward the cave which was pointed out to them. "You grab the other one Shin, I doubt my hat can support the weight of two of these little guys." There were still a couple questions that had to be asked, and Ri would spend no time waiting for the "right time" to ask them. "So what exactly are you two? Normal slugs don't talk..." He would give the creature some time to answer before asking his next question, "And how do you guys know your way around this place? Figured most things would just die after a day or two." Once that question was answered, he would continue walking in silence until either reaching the cave or being spoken to again.

Shin almost lunged back at the sound for voices coming from his feet, the young trainee glancing down at see what almost been crushed underfoot. It took a while for his eyes to adjust to what he was looking at, but it appeared to be small grey slugs. Talking grey slugs, apparently with the personalities it seemed; As the began introducing themselves, Shin narrowed his gaze at the creatures, making sure this wasn't some genjutsu or and illusion brought on the chill in his veins. It don't seem to be an illusion, and I don't think my minds going crazy from the cold. I wonder if Ri-.
Shita Rirakkusu said:
"Shin... If you're seeing this as well, let's just assume these things are real and go with the flow..."

That answered one question, still leaving out quiet a few unanswered ones. But, this animals seemed friendly enough and until they did something threaten...as slugs... Shin just keep these thoughts of threatening slugs to himself, if this small creatures were threats then he shouldn't have become a shinobi in the first place. As he waitted, he watch as Ri began speaking to the slugs, naming themselves Fukideru and Fukidasu.

Shita Rirakkusu said:
"I guess we'll listen to you and go to this cave, you two seem to know your way around here. I think." "You grab the other one Shin, I doubt my hat can support the weight of two of these little guys."

Shin just nodded as he stepped back to allow the other shinobi to pick up the one called Fukidasu, pausing for a second before placing Fukideru onto his shoulder. The slime from the animal didn't real bother Shin, he wasn't as bad as bleeding out had been and he had his coat and long-shelves shirt to protect his skin from so it was at most a small inconvenience. As he began walking, Ri seemed to be asking more questions to the creatures, while Shin simply looked at Fukideru on his shoulder, offering the animal a small nod before following whatever directions they would be taking them. He'd let them speak first before asking his own, especially considering their presence at interupted his previous conversation with Ri. Making it so the boy still knew more about him them Shin knew about the Genin. I'll wait for now.

The slugs wiggled with joy as they were placed on their respective shinobi. "My, it's quite nice up here. You get a much better view. Don't you think Fukideru?" The slug nodded, but squeezed its body lightly on Shin's shoulder. "Yeah, but a little scary. Do you humans worry about falling from here? You could break your tentacles." "Noses Fukideru." "They knows-es?" "Nevermind." Fukidasu took charge, giving Rirakkusu the directions needed to get to the cave. While they walked, the young shinobi asked a few questions. Fukideru was the first to pipe up. "Of course I'm not normal. Mommy always told me I was special." Fukidasu shook its head. "He means compared to the common slugs of this world." "Ooooooh. Well, of course I'm not normal." Fukidasu took over the conversation. "Are the shinobi not taught about us anymore? That's okay, we can explain. You humans refer to use as 'contract creatures'." The two slugs perked up proudly. "We are advanced compared to the regular fauna of this world, able to manipulate chakra just as you do. Oh, turn a bit to the right. Yeah, there you go. Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yes. We tend to keep to ourselves really, but we make contracts with shinobi who can prove themselves." There was a slight pause before it continued. "Well...I mean...WE'VE never made a contract with anyone, but our kind does."

Fukidasu moved on to the next question. "As for how we know the area, we like to vacation here. There are some that like the heat, and some that like the cold. We're the latter. If it's too hot, we dehydrate too quickly, and the beach really isn't an option for us." A shiver ran through both of their bodies, which Shin and Ri could physically feel. "The salt...it buuuuuuurns." Recovering from their brief fear, the last query was answered. "And besides, it's not too difficult to survive around these parts if you know where to look. Speaking of which, tada!"

Right as Fukidasu finished her sentence, the cave they were heading towards came into view. It would have been difficult to find had they not been directed to look there. "We tend to stick around here. This cave runs deep into the mountain." "So there's plenty of goodies to find!" Fukideru produced a squelching noise from what could only be assumed was its mouth, sounding a bit like slurping. "Come on Fukideru, these guys don't want to hear your awkward squishing noises." "Oh, I was doing it again? Sorry." The slug gave a bow of its head in apology. "Anyway, let's get you guys inside and warm you up."

They entered the cave, and thanks to the lack of wind, the temperature was much more manageable. Fukidasu urged them to head further, away from the cavern's opening. Once they were a good ways in, Fukidasu hopped down from Ri's hat. Fukideru, however, remained on Shin's shoulder. "If you don't mind, I think I'll just stay here for a little bit." The grounded slug slowly turned to face the boys. "Welcome to our vacation home! Make yourselves comfortable. Pull up a rock." There were a few larger stones on the ground that could be used as a makeshift chair. "I guess you guys aren't used to seeing in the dark, huh? We can fix that." Another noise came from Fukideru before he spit goop onto the ground in front of them. "Fukideru, that's the wrong type. Healing slime doesn't burn well. Try again." The slug spewed more goo onto the ground, and this time Fukidasu nodded in approval. "There we go, that's the stuff. If one of you has fire, we can get this place lit up and finish the earlier conversation." Once the fire was lit, they looked expectantly at Ri.

Ri felt a little stupid after the slug needed to explain to him that they were contract creatures. After all, he did assume that they might be at first, but still decided to ask if they actually were. What other kind of slug can talk like humans can? The answer he was given for how they knew the area was a tad confusing, but also made sense. Slugs do tend to enjoy cooler weather, but sub-zero temperatures? Even if they're contract beasts, that didn't sound comfortable, and it definitely wasn't comfortable for the shinobi, even if he had some heat generating jutsu. Ri was slightly surprised to see the cave show up just when the Slug said it would. Even if he knew the area, there was a damn blizzard going on, how did she see it? The cave was dark, and Fukidasu urged him to go in further. It was almost like they were being led into a trap... But it did feel nice compared to the outside, so screw it.

When they found a place that the slugs found suitable, Ri's slug hopped from his hat. The boy cringed a little at the sight of the slug jiggling as landed, accompanied by a squishing sound because of the impact. It was not a pleasant sight, but it was nice to get the weight off of his head. Even worse, soon after he had to witness a slug jumping from his head, he had to watch one throwing up special goo. "Healing" goo, Fikidasu called it. This, he had to watch twice, since the slug that Shin had wasn't the brightest. Now that they had the right good, they were ordered to light it on fire. Ri already knew he had a jutsu that was basically made for this kind of situation, and began rapidly forming hand seals, allowing him to release a small amount of fire from his mouth which set the goo on fire.

Pulling up a rock, Ri stared into the fire. He hadn't even gotten a chance to enjoy the heat being produced, before the slugs expected him to continue the conversation. Most of his questions were answered with the explanation he was given after first meeting the two of them, but if they were going to keep staring at him like that, he had no choice. "Oh yeah..." The shinobi mumbled after taking a few moments to think about what conversation they could continue. He just about continued the conversation they were having about what the slugs were, now THAT, would've been embarrassing. "Let's see... I definitely don't have as 'sad' of a past as you do, Shin, but it does explain my lack of motivation at times." The boy was fully aware that he's an extremely lazy person, but even when he said it, his voice didn't show whether he minded it or not.

"I used to be super excited about going to the academy and becoming a shinobi, after all, we already knew that I was chakra sensitive and wouldn't have a choice anyways, so I guess I was just making the most out of it. Whenever we went into the town, I would pretend to be a ninja, and would even have my little sister tag along. That's not very important though, so let's just skip over to when I was in the academy. This is when I started getting really lazy, but why? I don't know. Just did, I guess. Maybe I wasn't as excited about being a ninja as I thought I would, maybe doing work just wasn't my thing, all I know is that I lost all motivation and just barely managed to pass all of my classes. I was eventually introduced to alcohol, which became my favorite thing to drink as long as it was high quality, and I guess you could say it's just a bad habit now." Ri took a moment to look into the fire and take a breather before he continued.

"This fancy little burn scar you see on my arm," He held up his right hand, showing how the skin was wrinkled and leathery, "I got in our colosseum after making the genius decision of blowing both myself and my opponent up with a combustive seal. The scar on my neck," Again, he showed the three he was speaking to the scar by moving himself, "I got from someone I met while lost in the desert. I won't go into detail, but lets just say that a demon worm ate it's way into me and replaced a lot of vital organs with it's spawn..." The shinobi stopped speaking for a little bit, having finished, but forgetting to actually say he had. He was just remembering the horrible experience of being eaten alive and turned into a monster. Fun times.

Shin remained silent as they slugs lead them towards the cave. So they were contract monsters apparently, though it didn’t seem like these small animals weren’t very impressive it seemed. Besides the ability to speak, one seemed…rather touched. But, it would not be well of a shinobi to insult a creature solely based on their small appearance or lack of knowledge. Underestimating anything, especially creatures with the capability to fight along-side shinobi was something worth investigating. Returning to the moment at hand, Shin could begin to fell his body temperature returning to a rather tolerate rate as he continuing listening to Fukidasu and Fukideru speak to one another. A they began getting deeper within their shelter, it seemed that something regarding some form a food that interest Fukideru, causing the slug to create a rather annoying squelching noise next to his ear. If it wasn’t because he was attempting to learn more about what abilities these slugs had, he probably would have removed the creature and introduce onto the stone cold floor. Lucky it didn’t have to come to that, as the animal was rebutted by Fukidasu, before apologizes to both himself and Ri.

“Just don’t make it a habit.” The trainee muttered under his breath as he could looking around the slugs shelter as he waited for his eyes to adjust. As he waited, Fukideru began to make noises again before the sound of spit hitting the ground caused him to stare down at the animal. He would have began readying his arm to toss the creature onto the floor, if Fukidasu hadn’t mentioned healing slime; causing Shin to pause. This would be a beneficial ability, especially considered how small and unnoticeable the creature was. Being able to have the hand provide healing during combat would give him a rather impressive edge, something that he could have use it past exchanges. For now Fukideru, you’ve earned your keep.

Turning his attention back to Ri, it seemed as though the boy would began finishing their earlier conversations. As he spoke, Shin narrowed slightly about his sad past, something that he really didn’t find rather true. Yes, Achimou had been harsh, but atleast he bother staying and training his sons. Raiden knows, he could have just left him. Ignoring that for the moment, he continued listening, his mind processing how Ri life seemed to differ greatly from his own. While Ri seemed to have wanted to become a shinobi and began to lose the drive for it once he was inducted within the main branch, Shin had only joined for the reason of protecting the village, the rank only a means in which he could care out his own goals. He remain neutral as the boy began to speak of his introduction into alcohol; the use of substances was something he hadn’t partaken in, so he felt that he had no room to make judgement on one’s addiction. However it seemed that regardless of his lack of ambition or since of drive, he seemed to have a rather impressive talent for survival.

However, it was as he was ending his story, which the last detail caused him to look rather cautious of Ri. A demonic worm have devour a portion of the boys organs, and yet he seemed to rather uninterested in that fact of that matter. This sounds like he went though some form of torture, the fact his body is using some type of demonic spawn to keep itself alive is, rather troubling. This was information that he would have on file about the boy later, the last thing he need was having to deal with some unholy spawn bursting off the Genin chest and trying to assault him. But…he would not pursue this matter, though he did wish to speak again, finding the words come freely.

“Ri…you do realize you aptitude for survial is rather impressive. A lesser shinobi wouldn’t have survived some of your trials and remain sane. Though I do thank you for sharing some of your history, it was informative.”

Looking at his slug, he began pondering another question; one of their statement had troubled he slightly.

“If you don’t mind me asking Fukideru, why haven’t attempted to try to make a contract with a shinobi, seemed like you be able to find a lot more interesting places to see than this lone mountain?”

The slugs remained politely quiet as Rirakkusu told his tale. Their little horns appeared to shift with the story. High and perky at the beginning, only to slowly fall as it continued. The mention of demonic worms caused the slugs to look to each other, a tremble running through their gelatinous bodies. The slugs spoke softly in unison. "Him."

Shin thanked Ri for his story, and the slugs nodded together. Sharing such things can be hard, whether the individual telling it knows or not. But the contract creatures hoped that it would give Ri some feeling of relief that others knew his story. Lightening the mood, Shin asked a question of his own about their lack of contracting, which brought the slugs out of their own thoughts. Fukideru tilted its head. "Well, it's not like we can't." Fukidasu nodded. "And it's not like it's our sole purpose in life to make a contract with humans. Forming a contract with us is a gift, bestowed upon those who show the virtue treasured most by our people." Fukideru rocked its head from side to side, lightly grazing Shin's hair with his horn-like tentacle. "At least that's what Kuroi-sama tells us." Fukidasu chimed in. "Kuroi-sama is our leader."

The slugs fell silent for a moment before speaking again. "Oh, I guess it's our turn, huh?" Fukidasu reeled back slightly. "Oh my gosh! You're right Fukideru! All this time we've been so absorbed listening to you two, that we forgot to share ourselves. Hop on down Fukideru, it's better if we sit together and tell it." Fukideru looked from the ground, to Shin, back to the ground. "R-right." The slug seemed to ready itself to jump, but looked again to Shin. "Uuuum..." It waited to see if Shin would assist or not. If he did, the slug would thank Shin. If not, then the slug would squish to the ground with a shutter.

Once upon the ground, Fukideru took a spot beside Fukidasu, who began their tale. "Well, we already explained the contract thing...so I guess we should focus on us specifically? Well, Fukideru and I are mates, if you couldn't tell." Fukideru nodded. "I used to be the female role, but Fukidasu had this condition...and stuff got stuck...so we had to gnaw..." "That's enough Fukideru...they don't need the grisly details." The slug, now found out to be solely female due to a horrific mating incident, gave an embarrassed cough. "Anyway, we've lived together for a couple of decades." "Contract creatures live way longer than regular ones." "We've hung around the Fire Country a bit, but like the cooler climate of Lightning Country." "Also Mama lives in Fire Country...she's scary." "More like unbearable. In-laws, am I right?" Fukidasu gave a chuckle before continuing. "During our travels, we've seen good humans." They looked to Ri and Shin. "And we've seen bad humans." They looked down at the ground, seeming to recall something they wish they hadn't. "We like fungi, long walks in caves, and the damp." "Speaking of which, I'm hungry." "Me too." The two fell silent as thoughts of food floated in their minds. Only the voice of Shin or Ri would be able to pull them out of their distracted state.

Ri felt like he could hear something the slugs had said when he finished the story, but his train of thought was interrupted when Shin began speaking again. His words made him think about what he'd actually been through again, and he realized that the other boy was right. He'd never thought about the fact that he'd been through enough to make another person insane, and it almost bothered him, but why let something as silly as that bother you? Just means he has above-average mental stability, or a better grasp on life than others. Either way, it made him slightly superior to his fellow shinobi, and that was obviously something to be proud of.

"Guess you're right Shin, never thought about that." The shinobi said with a sigh, and soon after, Shin asked the slugs a question and they began telling about their history. The contract thing made sense, it's not like contract beasts only existed to give shinobi more power. Hell, they probably weren't even called contract beasts in the past. Probably something stupid like, "talking slug" instead. After the thing that made sense came the thing that was just strange... Apparently the two were mates, this made some sense, though Ri would've said they were more like brothers, but then they started talking about their mating process. The fact that they had to gnaw... It was just painful to even think about. He could only imagine how it would be if something similar could happen to humans. This thought made Ri shiver similar to the way the slugs do, and thankfully Fukidasu stopped her... His... It's? Mate from continuing that speech.

Now that the weird part was done with, the two slugs began giving the shinobi useful information. Enough information to allow them to know that contract beasts live longer, their leader is an individual named, "Kuroi," and they once hung around fire country a lot. When they finally finished their background story, they became hungry and began focusing on food. Ri was sure Shin could tell as well that they were paying no attention to them what-so-ever, as they were just kinda staring at... Probably food in their minds, but to the two boys, it was nothing. "You know, 'cooler' is probably a bit of an understatement.." Ri said as he stared at the two with a confused look. If that sentence managed to break them out of their trance, then he would use the chance to get them moving. Sitting down and talking was becoming a little boring, which was strange. Usually sitting down and doing nothing was something he liked to do. Maybe it was the "talking" part, that was pretty draining, more draining than walking probably would be.

"Since you two are clearly hungry, and apparently like long walks, I guess we should explore this cave. The boy pointed into the rest of the dark cave that they could explore, "Like you said, there are plenty of 'goodies' in here, and I'm sure there's more than just where we're sitting in this place." If the two slugs agreed, Ri would look to Shin for approval as well. It would only work out if there were no complaints, cause that would just require more talking. Since the point of this potential adventure was to hopefully minimize the amount of talking, complaining would just ruin it.

Shin knew something was off the moment he felt the slug on his shoulder tremble; whatever had gave Ri the demonic worms within himself, was a being that even these creatures knew. It would be a story that he would need to more about, once he had gain enough favor with his own creature. Noticing the signaling of the small being on his shoulder, Shin picked up Fukideru, placing the slug on the ground next to the other one, thoughts passing his mind as he listened to their story. So it seemed that even creatures such as these had leaders in which the held in such esteem. It made the young trainee wonder if this Kuroi-sama, as the called it, was in similar stature to the small creatures at their feet. If not, it would be quite a sight to behold, something that he would have to eventually meet one of these days. For now, he would entertain the two slugs before him.

For what their story told him, they both were mates, having an incident that left, the other one maimed and forever to be a female. That…was something that truly didn’t need to be through out into the universe. But atleast there story gave away key items. One, both of the slugs held a long live span than normal creatures of their race. Second, they had traveled from this country and the Fire County, a place the Shin himself had not true knowledge about. It also gave him a knowledge of which diet the animals were accused to; knowing this could allow him to become friendlier towards the creatures, before receiving the answers the questions that lingered within his head.

Snapping out of his thoughts, he noticed that Ri had taken the liberty of asking the creatures whether they wished to explore the cave, something that Shin truly had no problem with. It would help his plans go along and it was a rather nice change of pace from the harsh weather from outside. Though they had not manage to come across the bird of legend, one did not often get the change to interact with creatures such as these.

“Agreed, you’ve allowed us to take shelter within your home. I see no reason why we can’t find you some food. Tell us were to go and we’ll take you there.”

Waiting to see if the creatures would be moving again, Shin would follow close towards Ri, not leading the group, but rather working together towards a similar goal. Seeing as the mood was not terrible, perhaps these two could get along.

The fringe of their bodies rippled as Rirakkusu and Shin offered to go in search of food. "That would be wonderfully wonderful!" The two slugs turned in place and began to crawl farther into the cavern. Their pace was slow, but gave the two shinobi time to search the cave for possible food sources, as well as enjoy the stalactites on the ceiling if they found such things interesting. Fukidasu led the conversation. "Hehe. Sorry. We've been a bit lazy and ate most of the stuff near the front. We'll have to go a ways before we can find something." "Hey, do you think we'll run into Nazukego again?" "That would be nice. But he probably went back to the village by now." Fukidasu wiggled her tentacles. "Oh my, how rude of us. You have no idea who we're talking about, do you? Nazukego is a shinobi like yourselves, though much younger. I'm not sure how your human years work, but he's obviously still a child by your standards." Fukideru nodded. "A cutie." " We ran into him a while back during one of his missions. He was collecting materials. Now he visits when he's in the area. He came by a day ago in fact. Told us he was investigating something." "He said it was something super secret."

They continued their slow pace, still not seeing anything worth stopping for. Cold water dripped from the stalactites, filling the silence with natural music. However, a different sound reverberated through the cave, a faint voice that on the edge of their hearing. The slugs perked up. "Nazukego!" They pushing their bodies to move faster, but even that wasn't much faster than their earlier speed. Whether the shinobi helped or not, eventually they would come to a wooden door, obviously man-made. The slugs shuddered nervously. "What do we do?" "What do we do?" They looked to the shinobi in hopes for guidance.

Shin gazed down at the small animals, the pace that they were moving would make their time in this cave along. He might as well get used to the dark cavern and stalactites hanging off the ceiling. Making sure not the crush them, he bend down and grabbed some gravel under them before charging it with chakra. Moments passed before he stood up again, a small glass eye floating next to him, giving him another set of eyes to search with. Though to be honest, with the low lighting and the constant sound of water striking the ground, he wasn't really hopefully of locating anything. The small eye whisked over heard, attempting to locate something that the shinobi’s eyes could not see. Continuing his search on autopilot for a moment, he allowed the voices of the slug to draw him into their conversation. He frowned for a moment, as they had revealed that their laziness was partial to blame for the lack of food at the front, the abundances of it made them now take a long trek through the back of their home. He began toning them out before a new name was brought into the conversation.

“Nazukego?” Shin muttered, wondering what type of figure this name belong to; perhaps another form of contact beast? Apparently sensing either his or his partner’s confusion, that explain that this Nazukego was a shinobi. That statement wouldn’t have put Shin on alert, if it wasn’t for the fact that this shinobi was apparently a child. What kind of child goes looking for things in this type of atmosphere? Also, was the boy a fellow shinobi of his village or a foreigner? While not a paranoid person, Shin was never the less cautious of the individual they would be meeting. Especially with this “secret” that the child was going to be investigating.

However the caution seemed to pass once they had gone several moments without locating anything, the sounds of the water becoming both a pleasance and annoyance to Shin. Glancing at Ri, he spoke, if only to break silence for a moment.

“Any luck with the food search Ri? I’m not seeing anything.”

Continuing the slow pace of walking as he waited for the other shinobi to answer or not, he stopped suddenly as another sound greeted him. Whatever it was seemed to cause the slugs to panic, as the shouted the name of the shinobi they had mentioned earlier. Seeing their struggle to run faster, he grabbed Fukideru, placing him back onto his shoulders. Waiting to see what Ri would do with the remaining slug, Shin would began jogging towards the area the sound had come from, his body tense and ready to spring into action. Reaching the door, he made sure not to let the panicking slugs distract him as he positioned his body across from it. Waiting for either for his partner to appear, Shin would speak low, so that only those presents would hear his words.

“I’m going to open to door, be ready for anything.” Cautioned the Shinobi as he ended his statement with as the small sound of water roaring from his mouth gave any indication that his was already prepared to launch any assault. Gripping the handle if there was one, he would push to the door open, ready for whatever they would encounter.

Ri was thankful when the two slugs and Shin agreed with his idea to explore the cave a bit. Now he could take a bit to recover from the conversation they were having, both mentally and physically. That thing about switching genders really wasn't something he wanted to hear after all... The stalactites hanging from the ceiling of the cave had little drops of water falling from them, one after another. This was quite therapeutic to the boy, at first anyways. The more he heard it, the more he began to lose his focus while he searched for anything the slugs might call food. Not only that, but it was hard to ignore it when he couldn't actually see anything to distract him in the first place. Which gave him the wonderful idea of making a light source which could allow him to do exactly what he suggested they do! The shinobi flew through a few seals before a rough metal "bowl" formed in his hand. Another set of seals, and he "vomited" lava into this bowl so that it could emit some light. "And now it's too heavy..." He mumbled. It wasn't really too heavy for him to handle, but it certainly wasn't something he wanted to waste his physical strength on right now. Yet another set of seals, and he made the bowl float beside him by altering the force of gravity around it. Much better.

The whole time that he was distracted by his make-shift lamp, the slugs were talking about some kid named "Nazukego." Most of the conversation was either ignored or forgotten by Ri, but he managed to pick up the important bits. He was some shinobi that had stopped by recently, but the same question that Shin had, lingered in Ri's head as well. What the hell was a kid doing way up here? Small slip ups-- like the one he made earlier that day-- could get someone killed, especially if that person wasn't skilled enough to get themselves out of a bind. It would probably be beneficial to that kid, if he was still here, if Shin and himself ended up running into him.

Soon after he finished making his light source, Shin spoke to him and made him realize that he still hadn't been looking for anything the whole time he was distracted by... Everything else. "No luck over here either." He replied, a bit of uncertainty in his voice. Looking down to the slugs, it seemed they were still going the same slow pace they had been the whole time. Did they really want to search for food? Ri was sure that they would be able to move faster than that, put a little more effort into it! Looking back to his side of the cave, he noticed a small mushroom. Maybe that would be something they would want to eat? Just as he began bending down to pick that mushroom, a faint noise reached his ears. It was easy to tell what it was, and the slugs heard it too as they both seemed to know who it was.

Their hurried pace was pitiful enough to make Ri pick up the remaining slug before he followed just behind Shin. As they came to the door, the slugs started to freak out, and Shin just sat at the door waiting for Ri. The nervous shuddering these slugs kept doing was beginning to become annoying for the shinobi, so without even stopping for his partner to open the door like he said he would, Ri slammed through door-- assuming you have to push to open-- in hopes that Fukidasu would stop his shaking. Before looking at what was on the other side of the door he just broke open, he looked back to Shin.

"No time to lose, we gotta hurry!" The real reason was obviously not because he was worried about the safety of the child that they were trying to find, it was simply because he wanted to put his mind at ease before he hurt the thing on his shoulder. After making sure Shin had a reason for Ri's hurriedness, the shinobi looked back to whatever might be waiting for him on the other side of the door.
