Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

The Village Built on Clouds -> The Seki District -> Troubling Thoughts
[fontsize="11"]Finally his banging on the door elicited a response. The doors flung open inwards, nearly toppling Natsu over who was mid-swing. Looking up, seemingly surprised at the disappearance of the door, the cold stare of Haruka bored into the Jonin's eyes. A mix of raw emotions washed over him. Love, anger, adoration, confusion swirled about him, threatening to drag him under. And just as Natsu thought he had found footing, some ground to keep his balance, her voice send him under once more. It wasn't until he spotted Masao, standing just behind Haruka that the Spymaster regained his composure and cold logic. Straightening his back, the blond faced the Crow's wrath head on.

"Lady Shima. Always wonderful to see you." He said, his smile strangely both forced and genuine. "The reconstruction of the sun roof was scheduled for today. I have seen the team of Genin off this morning myself. All meetings have thus been rescheduled. Save for your meeting with my An-.. Sennin, it seems. I hope the reparation crew hasn't been too loud?" His voice was strained with effort not to crack under emotions. "As to what I want.." Natsu started, before pausing mid-sentence. His mouth still agape, the poor Spymaster seemed genuinely confused. What was it that he wanted? Had he not just spend two posts and more than a month thinking about the answer to that very question?

"I only want to live in peace, plant potatoes and dream!" Natsu blurted out, before quickly realizing his mistake. "No! That's not what I want! Unless you'd wa.. I mean, no!" The Jonin coughed, clearing his throat. Not yet anyway. Sometimes.. No, make that often." The Spymaster stumbled, sighing. "It sometimes feels like you don't even know what you want until you find out you can't have it, right? Well, what if someone found out that someone else couldn't have someone and he'd want that someone to want that someone but at the same time the someone might not really want the other someone and.."

Natsu groaned. This was not going as he had imagined back in the Torre. "Shima Haruka, what, nay, who I want is you." There! That sounds a lot more like it.. Maybe a bit too much.. "Erm, I mean. That is, I was looking for someone to become my.. Assistant! No! Yes! Secretary! I mean.. Yes, that sounds more agreeable.. Right? Ah, but, erm.." Shaking his head, Natsu felt utterly foolish. Such a failure in front of both Haruka AND his Aniki. Only one way out remained.. Going down to his knee and taking the beauty's hand, the Spymaster looked up. "Will you go to dinner with me, Haruka?"

The Village Built on Clouds -> The Susukino District -> Eating Donuts Again?
[fontsize="11"][fontsize="11"]“Natsu-san.” The man in question looked up, mouth full with donut and crumbs adorning his face. The red-haired woman in front of him was a recognizable figure. After all, there were only few women in Kumo who could boast about such an impressive bust size. Swallowing the remains of the donut at once, Natsu reached for the folder. Years of practise at handling donuts and paperwork at once had granted him the supernatural ability to nom the delicious treats without getting glaze all over his fingers. Flipping the file open, Natsu skimmed through its contents as Kitsune made her case.

“The mission details are straightforward enough. I do have one question however.. Why me? Do not misunderstand me, I will accept the request. Ani-.. Masao-Sama has approved the assignment after all. But it would appear to me as if a Jounin-Squad would be able to handle this mission, no?” Natsu inquired. Truthfully, he just wanted to see how much information he could coax from the woman. Any mission that had passed Masao’s desk and come out with a signature would have been documented well-enough to receive such approval. And it’d be easy enough to fish up said documentation from the Torre.

“Also, you’re certain this is not Kushin-Sensei, right? It sure sounds an awful lot like him. And not even all the donuts in the world would convince me going up against that demon.” The Spymaster told Kitsune, his voice not quite revealing whether it was a jest or truth. After Natsu would receive his answers, he’d pull out his last donut and take a bite. “Very well then. I’ll take care of this. I’ll just pass by the Torre to inform my colleagues. I’d hate for Tobu to get pestered by them again. Last time I stayed away from office they assumed he had hidden me away so I could keep eating donuts. Damn brats. I should’ve brushed them!” With a final nod and gulp, the Spymaster stood up and walked off like said, disappearing in the crowds.

Solum de Asphodelus -> The Heartland of Kaminari no Kuni -> A Long Way From Your Gates
[fontsize="11"]“Shut up, you foolish man.” Natsu hissed, shooting a hard glance at the Kumo-Nin chasing him. Truthfully, the man had every right. After Zaku’s recent abandonment of the Gates, it was more than suspicious Natsu would follow him. Of course the circumstances differed immensely. There had no Golden Sage in front of him to mesmerize the Jonin into abandoning the Village. But if the Gate Captain could be so heavily swayed from his duties, who was to say the Spymaster could not have been affected as well? What if the ex-Kumogakurian with a golden body and silver tongue had masterfully enchanted all of Kumo’s high officers into following the man’s nefarious goals? Then by Raiden did we fuck up. Natsu thought sourly, rushing along.

“Sir! You have to return the Village! It is bad enough to lose one division captain, a second would likely render the Main Branch useless!” At those words, the Spymaster came to an abrupt halt. The pursuer, surprised that his words had the intended the effect but relieved nonetheless, was abruptly slammed to the ground. A sharp, bony blade rested at his neck in the following second. “Do not dare doubt our Lord Raikage or your Branch like that ever again, Shinobi. Loyalty is what makes Kumogakure stronger than the other Villages. I know. I have travelled and experienced. Loyalty to Hayata-Sama is the one thing keeping the Village and the Branches together.

They would do just fine even without me, even though I have every intention of returning. I need to find De.. ex-Death Watch Captain Zaku however, and find out why he left. Whether it was that damned Hoshikata’s doing or his own loyalty faltering. I do not mind you tailing me, but if you do you will not utter a single word more. Understood!?”
The Shinobi on the ground awkwardly nodded his head, not wishing the blade to pierce flesh yet wanting to convey his comprehension as clearly as possible. With a curt nod of his own, Natsu released his grip on the man’s collar and withdrew the contorted ulna into his arm. “Apologies sir. I will return to the Village and convey your words to Masao-Sama.”

As the Shinobi turned, he hesitated a moment before speaking once again. “Please return quickly. The Village may not need you, but Masao-Sama did speak of his confidence in you. Do not disappoint him. Or us.” And the Shinobi was gone in a flicker of movement. Finally Natsu exhaled the long-held breath of relief. As skilled as his companion may have been, the Spymaster considered Zaku a personal friend. It felt as if somehow he was the only one entitled to do track him down, ridiculous as the notion might be.

Finally coming to a halt, the exhausted Jonin looked about. Solum de Asphodelus, plains upon fields, as far as the eye could see. And in this flatland that was pretty far, even in this darker night. Several shimmers of blue could be seen in the distance where the moonlight was reflected by thin streams of water. Natsu had little information at the ready to track the Sage and his missing friend with. It had only been a calculated guess that had brought the Spymaster here. Hoshikata had come in by boat, it was not unthinkable he’d leave in the same manner. It had been the only clue available to the Jonin as well. If it hadn’t been for the lucky eye-witness and suspiciously coincidental departure of the ex-Mist-Nin, who knows where Natsu could have ended up by now.

Ironically, it had also been the location of Zaku and his first encounter to really make the step towards a friendship. It wasn’t even so long ago, there amongst the ruins in the distance. It felt like centuries by now however. Entering the ruins, a cautious eye looking about for traces of other life, Natsu felt oddly out of place here. Perhaps it were the sentimental memories he’d brought up just moments ago, or perhaps something truly was lurking out in the dark. It had been petty bandits last time, so it wasn’t unthinkable someone or something else had made its home in the abandoned relics.

Yet finally he reached one of the more intact looking buildings and decided it would do for shelter. At least the few hours he’d spent resting the Jonin would prefer not risking downpours. He was in the land of the Santaru after all, it was not uncommon. A light was quickly lit, dead branches aplenty in the ruins and his matches aiding in getting the fire started. Running a hand through his hair, the Jonin could not help but reminisce the old days. His first meeting with Zaku. Hikari had been there too. Terrible misunderstandings had happened. Then they had gone on a mission. Then there had been the promotion, a surprise to all. And eventually they had grown to comrades. Maybe even friends. Natsu liked to think so anyway.

Up until the day he had allowed entrance to the Hoshikata and company. Even then Zaku had voiced his confidence in Natsu. Maybe that’s why he took it all so personal. Why the Spymaster had snapped at the Shinobi carrying out rational orders. The blond simply could not help but feel it was his fault in some way. Those dark thoughts occupied his mind as he tried getting some rest. Would it remain as calm a night as he could hope or would the ruins hold a surprise for him after all?

The Village Built on Clouds -> The Seki District -> Troubling Thoughts
"..I guess I can agree." He had succeeded! Raiden be praised and Baby Jesus Saito's toes be kissed! Of course, there had been hurdles along the way. A much more charming aniki to contend with, potentially upsetting the balance of the world by angering Imouto-Chan, the constant fear of impotence every man would be faced with sooner or later and let's not forget the excellent book-pelting skills Haruka herself possessed. The only remaining obstacle for the Spymaster would be to dissuade Nyaruko from going on a rampage soul and entertaining Haruka to the best dinner she'd ever had. Failing either would result in his complete and utter destruction.

"MASAO-NII-CHAN!!!!" Natsu stiffened, his revelry from earlier replaced by utter horror. Gaburieru had not managed to convince the cute little Demon to return to the Torre. She had used some sort of hellish Demon Gate to chase Natsu down and devour him. But before that she'd first rat him out to Masao and make his Aniki lose all faith in him an-.. "I got into Zero-Zero! Er, AKB0048!!! I'm going to be a trainee!!!" WHAT!? Natsu though confusedly, his reaction much the same as Masao. And then they appeared. Mariko, regardless of her claims, and Yuuko. Just how generous would Raiden be this day? Sending his angels in human form to stop the demon from devouring him and Haruka accepting his offer to a dinner. The latter being a matter much more pressing and possibly still lethal.

As Masao, Nyaruko, Gaburieru and the AKB idols left them, Natsu replying with a curt nod of his own, he focused his attention on the raven-haired beauty in front of him. "Right now? Very well, I'll see what I can arrange in terms of restaurant reservations. Would you allow me moment to get changed then, however? While Masao spoke nothing but the truth complimenting you in this outfit, I'm afraid these clothes of mine will not do. I shall return to pick you up straight after?" The Spymaster requested surprisingly smooth and already thinking of what to wear and where to eat.

"After you, milady." Natsu offered, holding open the door. It seemed Raiden's favor had not quite left him yet, the blond managing to stay collected so far without klutzing it up. As they entered the restaurant, Natsu looked around for a moment before spotting the maître d’hôtel. Explaining the situation shortly, the lack of reservation but the assurance he'd get compensated well, the man seemed to hesitate for a moment before swiftly resuming his duties for the pair. "Very well, sir and madam. Please, follow me."

Accepting the menu from Ryu Takeshi, as the maître had introduced himself, Natsu looked it through. The dishes had several exotic sounding names and none which could reassure the Spymaster they weren't poisonous. The hamburger was amazingly tempting to order, but the Jonin refrained from doing so. He'd have to impress Haruka after all. "See anything you like?" Natsu asked, offering Haruka a smile. The Jonin was starting to get nervous again. Not only the closeness to the Crow but also the unfamiliarity with the fancy restaurant were rather intimidating. "I'm thinking the Salmon would be a nice starter.." Had to make conversation somehow, no?

The Village Built on Clouds -> The Seki District -> Troubling Thoughts
[fontsize="11"]“Do Natsu, I too like you. A lot.” The blond felt the blush return with a vengeance, no doubt his face matched the tablecloth at this point. Not only her words but the gentle caress of her fingers and the touch of her lips against his fingers.. The Spymaster felt like a twelve-year old. Save for the fact that a twelve-year old would likely know better how to behave himself in such a situation. “Your salmon, madam and monsieur.” Takeshi spoke, pulling Natsu out of his revelry and Haruka’s hand out of his own.

For a moment, Natsu considered killing the man. Finally the Jonin had gotten to what had to be at least third base with the Shima woman and now the maître was happily interrupting that moment for salmon. Of all things to bother with! Sir, the Kingslayers are attacking. Sir, your coat is on fire. Sir, you should not drool so obviously over the woman. Yes, those were relevant matters to inform Natsu of at such a time. Not that the salmon was ready. Sighing, Natsu nodded and Takeshi presented the duo with their plates and cutlery. “Shall you be deciding on the wine then, monsieur?” Finally relenting, the Jonin nodded.

As he opened the menu with one hand, Natsu was hit uncomfortably hard with his inexperience when it came to wine. Certainly, he had drank it before. But the Shinobi had never been tasked with picking one. Certainly not out of a two-hundred item list, filled with names that each sounded more obscure than the previous one. “Any wine in particular you prefer? Red or white, perhaps rosé?” Natsu asked, subtely sneaking his hand forward as he spoke to touch Haruka’s again. Feigning ignorance about the action, he pretended to be fully focused on picking out a wine. After the two had chosen, either one of Haruka’s picking or a ‘Chateau Montagne – Rouge Filles’ on a random guess by Natsu, Takeshi nodded and departed again.

Natsu’s fingers in the meanwhile would hopefuly have found themselves entwined with Haruka’s as he tried a bite of the salmon. “Not bad.” He offered, a little uncertain what he could say at the moment. “Have you chosen your main dish yet?” He inquired, before boldly offering his own idea. They had been very open just now after all. “Truth be told, I’m not too used to this fancy stuff. I have half a mind to just ask for the burger. At least that I know wouldn’t kill me.” The Jonin said, only half-jokingly. Hopefully Haruka would share similar sentiment and not smack him over the head with the menu.

De Cevitate Attonbitus -> The End Is Never The Same
[fontsize="11"]"By blending in, of course." Nats responded, focusing his attention on his squad. His thoughts had been occupied by the Tavern and dire words on the flyer. This truly would be a gamble, and he wasn't keen on losing it. "The Congregation isn't exactly an unknown party in the Tenouzan community. It'd not be uncommon for people wanting to join them. There are quite a few fanatics in this religion, that's undisputable. With the celebration, people from all over the country flock to the city. Including Priests from further-off Villages. Kazuhiko and I will play the role of a Priest from one of those Villages, wishing to join the Congregation."

"With that outfit, you'll be a bit more likely to stand out. Students at the Academy eh.. How about we claim that you each came from the same Village as one of us did? It'd be perfectly reasonable for a Priest to invite his younger followers along to what he believes is the right way to practice his belief and ensure his successor in the Village follow the same mindset. It'll also allow us to split up again at the party, covering more ground. To further establish ourselves as such, I propose we wear these medallions. They indicate Faith Militants, who sympathize with a more extremist brand of Tenouzan politics. That should remove most doubt."

"Kazuhiko and Tama will be from Takayama. It's one of the smaller farm villages, southwest from Raiden's eye. It only has about seven hundred inhabitants and their Priest is a rather boring man. The odds of anyone from Takayama attending the party should be slim to none. You can figure out the rest of the backstory yourselves. Jo and I will be from Asuka. It's one of the mountain villages in the Spine. They barely ever come down from the mountain so exposure should be close to zero once more. As for names.. Oh, you lot have fun with it. I'll be Brother Pastris.. No, Crustulum.. Or maybe.. Hmmhm. Yea, Brother Crustum. That works best I think."

Natsu finally finished instructing, before waving for Tama's attention. If she could please use that nifty ability of hers to give Kazuhika and the Spymaster fitting clothing. The target was hers to choose. The Spymaster would have to inquire if she could teach him the trick someday. It certainly was very useful. As she made the final adjustments to his clothing, the Jonin leaned in. "You'll have to tell me the entire story you found in the Chancellors' room someday soon. In return I'll see what I can do about further assignments in Raiden's Eye." He confided in her, before distributing the medalions in the group.

And so the merry band set out in their disguises to stop the nefarious plan of the Kingslayers! Would they succeed? Would they fail? Was it all an elaborate trap they were walking in blindly, set by the Mission Mod so he could catapult this thread into gore and blood? You'll read it next time in 'The End Is Never The Same!' Stay tuned!

De Cevitate Attonbitus -> The End Is Never The Same
[fontsize="11"]"Fer bour toi!" Natsu hissed as the company made their way past the friar. Natsu had picked Takayama and Asuka because of the supposedly small chance anyone would know of its priest. Clearly that had not worked out and they had stumbled onto a guard who had visited Asuka, against all odds. Thankfully Raiden was the more generous of the Gods, and provided with Kaguya. Another name that had floated up several times into Natsu's reports, and the Spymaster had always wondered what the man would be like. This first impression certainly helped his opinion on the BSA Major.

"That's the one, eh?" Natsu responded, eyeing the effigy. Certainly not the most attractive of Saints, but such was life. As the officer hinted at the unavoidable spilling of blood, Natsu simply grunted. He was a Shinobi, not a hero. A few non-Kumo corpses more or less mattered little to the man. Something he had come to learn early in his career. So when Jo looked up at him, the Spymaster nodded before turning to the others. "Tama, Kazuhiko. You take care of the lead. I'll help J-.." He started, when the Genin began to sing. Moments later the friars lay dead. "Go, now. We can't waste time." He hissed, motioning at Kaguya to join them, provide cover for any unexpected arrivals.

Leaning down, the Jonin helped hide the bodies. No need to provoke any by-passers with the gruesome sight. As the duo finished, he turned towards Jo. "You okay?" Natsu asked, patting the boy on the shoulder. He knew the younger Shinobi had taken lives before, and he also knew how conflicted the kid had felt about it. The blonde had required some time to adjust to the feeling as well, though everyone dealt differently with it. Regardless of the answer, Natsu would return the knife to his companion. "We're not done yet though.. Tama, how is progress?"

De Cevitate Attonbitus -> The End Is Never The Same
[fontsize="11"]"Kazuhiko, how are you guys faring over there?" Natsu inquired, praying to Raiden the device he'd gotten from the man indeed worked as predicted. Itonami Ataeru had come up with a few brilliant inventions, that was for certain. The Spymaster felt ill for ditching the two men (and due to the duo's terrible driving skills), facing such a formidable number of hostiles. After receiving his answer, or not, Natsu looked over the device. It still was a crude design, and not very user-friendly yet. Thus, he turned to his companion. "Tama, your headset!" Natsu shouted as the trio made their way to the Palace, leaning out of the carriage window. Snapping the item from the air as she threw it backwards to him, Natsu fiddled about with it, trying not to lose his footing due to the distraction.

His own headset was still broadcasting the message and he dared not interrupt it's message. However, this close to the other Kumo party, it might just be plausible to get a connection going. "..-ou pervert, get your ass over here and help us save the Raikage!" Crackled through the little device as the Jonin switched through various channels. Color draining from his face, Natsu came to a stop as he listened to the message. No no no, this couldn't be true! Masao and Ayumu had been among the party, surely they could've prevented any danger! But there was a Masao-impersonator.. And even Rin was not spared from that debauchery. Enishi? Yes, he would take such perverse pleasure from the in-fighting. No no no, Masao would never permit such a thing from happening. Then was his Sempai wounded? Or even worse? Or was this Hikari the impersonator?

Looking up, he noticed the cart comign to a stop. Jo already sprinted towards the doords, Tama was a bit ahead of the cart, no doubt wondering what was taking him so long. "Gottverdammt!" The Spymaster cursed, taking off once more, motioning Tama to hurry up as well. Arriving at the Basilica doors, already slammed open by Jo, Natsu quickly surveyed the scene in front of him. Comparing it to the message he'd heard from the Chief Ambassador, it seemed she had spoken the truth. "They're imposters. Kingslayers. Don't hold back." He instructed his team, Raiden receiving another prayer that he'd made the right decision believing Hikari's decision. "Scrubs first, I'll take that Camerlengo." He growled, preparing for combat.

De Cevitate Attonbitus -> The End Is Never The Same
[fontsize="11"]Bones shot through Natsu's right arm, shifting and twisting to form a dagger in his hand. Exhaling softly, the Kaguya changed his posture ever so slightly. A blue sheen covered his blade as even more bones shot out from his body. Ripping through his skin, staining his body in streams of blood, they gave him a decidedly morbid look. The Jonin himself barely responded to what had to be excruciating pain, simply observing the battlefield. Even if his capability for the pain seemed high enough to endure, his body was not often put through such stress and the Kaguya knew he wouldn't be able to move agile enough for a second or two longer. Seconds that soon proved to be fatal for his team members.

It wasn't until his Raikage was struck by an particularly vicious looking Rasengan that Natsu decided he had to intervene. Physically ready or not, his Raikage was to be protected at all costs. Sprinting forwards, the Spymaster aimed for the user of the S-Rank user. It seemed to be yet another mistake. A bolt of lightning arced through the room piercing through the ANBU Sennin. Fortunately, the man was apt at combat and managed to avoid it. Noticing his target preparing to launch yet another lethal attack, Natsu stretched his body to it's limits, hoping to prevent the fake Camerlengo from finishing the hand seals. His original estimation had been awfully correct however, and the Jonin failed to connect bone with enemy.

Stumbling from the hindered movement, Natsu managed to hold himself upright as Tama started a song and Kitsune returned to life. The Spymaster never had liked the Med-Nin overly much, a remainder from the Mission which had resulted in the death of the Bear King. Yet in this moment, where she offered her own life in exchange for that of the ANBU Captain and Raikage, Natsu felt a respect for the woman only rivalled by that which he had for his Sempai. "Thank you." He whispered, though she'd never know. The following rush of actions reminded the blond that the battle was still far from over, as he launched himself upwards once more.

Narrowly dodging the ceiling coming down from the young ANBU Trainee, Natsu cursed as one of the pieces of rubble nearly crashed on top of him too. The result was impressive though, as she had managed to take down one of the Slayers. Seeing the fake-Junichi charge out, Natsu grit his teeth. "Not this time, you bastard!" He growled, intercepting the man and pinning him to the ground by puncturing the man's knees. A silent nod at Ayumu and his companion seperated head from body. Turning quickly to move on to the final target, Natsu released a sigh of relief as none other than his very own Aniki had entered the scene and delivered a killing blow.

Listening in on the report Hikari and Jo brought Masao up to speed with, Natsu grimaced. "You're forgetting another important factor. The crowd outside. No doubt the collapse of the ceiling will have attracted attention and the festival-goers will want an explanation. Someone will need to calm them if we want to hunt Enishi down efficiently." Natsu chimed in. He had half a mind to do so himself, but at the moment his sights were set on Enishi. The Spymaster had only had a small impact on the battle and was greedy for more blood. Possibly a side effect of the Kaguya blood. Which reminded him to retract the skeletal armor, lest he accidentally stab someone to death by moving suddenly.

"If I may propose, Shin-Sama, Kogami-Sama, Masao-Sama. The delegates will no doubt require reassurance we were victorious, and some may have need of medical aid. No doubt Shin-Sama and Kogami-Sama with their near-death experience as well as your Trainee could do too. If you would rejoin the delegation and see to their safety? No doubt Tama will want to accompany you. Hikari can go calm the masses, prevent them from breaking down the doors. Afterwards join the delegation to see about the treaty. Jo and I will ensure the Bomb is secure and hunt down Enishi given the chance." Natsu suggested, gauging his superior's reaction. He knew the man would want Enishi's head on a plate more than anything, yet the Spymaster couldn't help but hope his Aniki would choose a safer role.

De Cevitate Attonbitus -> The End Is Never The Same
[fontsize="11"]The trip had passed with little said between the duo of Main Branchers. Their focus was on getting to Enishi while attracting minimal attention as they made their way through the chaotic masses. Natsu did have a few question burning in the back of his mind, of course. And a few concerns too. But his Aniki had chosen him, and only him, to come along on this part of the mission. To close the chapter of the Kingslayers and make sure no other Kumo Nin would have to face that fright or pain. Natsu felt privileged, just as he had when he had first met the man that would be his Sennin. Back then the Chunin had been promoted to Spymaster, a function he still fulfilled to the best of his abilities. And now he'd been chosen above a Sennin and even the Raikage to accompany his Sempai.

"We'll beat him once and for all, right Aniki?" Natsu asked, a smile on his lips as he regarded his Sempai. The Jonin didn't expect an answer, and he was confident they'd be victorious at the end of the day. They'd face off against their final nemesis and demolish that final obstacle. They'd return to the Basilica, find rest among their companions before heading back to Kumogakure. Resume their happy, if somewhat whacky, daily life in the Torre. They'd do so together. Just the thought at such a nice prospect brought another smile to the Spymaster's face. Yes, the hardship was coming to an end. At least for a while, until the next big thing came rolling by. Such was the life in Cloud, after all.

Natsu's daydreaming came to an end as they crossed the bridge and reached the shrine. Taking a deep breath and steeling his nerves, Natsu reached out for the doorknob. This would be the deciding moment. As soon as he'd twist the knob they-.. The Jonin never got the chance to know what actually would've happened as Masao called out to him. Receiving the spear and letter with a slightly confused look, Natsu tucked the letter away in a pocket as he listened to his Sennin. A blush coloured his face as he was praised. However, just as he was about to thank his Sempai for noticing him, a stiffening feeling started to envelop his body. "And lastly, I’m sorry, but this is my fight alone.."

"NO, ANIK-.." Natsu shouted, before his jaw got locked firmly under the Body Bind. Confusion washed over him, swiftly followed by disbelief, anger and sadness. Why? Why Masao? DON'T! He tried to shouted, though the words never left his throat and the door fell shut in front of his eyes. A few tears trickled down his cheek as he struggled against the invisible bonds keeping him locked in place. Yet no amount of strength or despair seemed to help against the damnable Jutsu. Until several seconds later, seconds that had felt like hours, the binding loosened. Praying to Raiden that is was because of his struggling and not because Masao was suffering at the hands of Enishi, the blond increased his efforts to break loose.

As soon as Natsu managed, he stumbled forward, crashing through the door. His gaze caught Masao's, yet it was not relief that filled the Spymaster. His Sennin was locked in a close struggle with the Kingslayer. Yet as soon as Natsu wanted to inch forward, the Sennin pushed himself over the balcony, dragging along his arch nemesis. "ANIKIII!" The Kumo-Nin shouted, running over, stubbornly believe he'd be able to catch his Sempai if only he was quick enough. Yet even at the record speed with which he crossed the distance, when Natsu looked over the railing, only the roaring blue waterfalls greeted him. "ANIKIII!" The blond shouted again, desperately hoping for a response.

Yet the only answer that came was the echoes of his own voice, as if to mock the Sypmaster. Making it plainly obvious just how emotion-filled the outcry had been. Natsu wanted to jump down after the duo, yet even in this mad-driven state a cold voice of logic reminded him of how futile that action would be. "Why? How could you?!" Natsu asked aloud, though the only person who held the answers had just thrown himself to his death. "How could you have been so selfish? How could you rob yourself from our lives? From MY life?! After those words.. Where did you get the right to abandon us in such a way?!" Natsu demanded, the anger plain as day in his voice. Yet the voice of logic chimed in once more, chastising him of how wrong it was to make such accusations. That he was the selfish one for demanding answers to such questions.

Tears welled up in his eyes. Not as reserved as earlier, this time the salty secretion flowed freely. His breathing became more irregular and from time to time his whole upper body spasmed. It wasn't until he heard the oncoming footsteps of Kogami Ayumu that he forced himself to calm down. Turning to face the man, face red and eyes puffy, he pointed at the balcony with the spear. "H-.. He launched h-..hims-..himself over the e-..edge. Dragged that f-..fucking Enishi along." The Spymaster explained, voice hoarse and interrupted every so often by a sob. "Ma-..Masao bound me. I.. I was too late." Natsu admitted, staring the ANBU Sennin in the eyes. "I failed him."

Dropping the spear onto the ground, wincing as the loud clattering echoed in ears, the Jonin reached for the letter. Handing it over with shaking hands to Ayumu, he leaned against the balcony. Contemplating for a moment to just let himself fall backwards, the Spymaster instead slid down, sitting on the ground with his back to the waterfalls. He felt so.. exhausted. His crying had finally ended, the sobs subsiding and his breathing slowly returning to a normal pace once more. "What does it say?" The blond inquired, not very convinced he even wanted to know. Likely it was Masao's will, which indicated something like this had been his plan from the start. A sad possibility Natsu did not want to think about, yet seemed to be the only thing his mind would focus on for the moment. "Please.. Tell me."
